The decorations provided a feeling of class and sophistication. Mood lighting is on the dark side but it was dead silent considering no guests in sight. Service (5/5): Our wait staff was on the ready from beginning to end. Plates were cleared, crumbs removed, and often check ins. Crispy Chicken Sandwich (5/5): Everything was done right!! the chicken had a lovely breading that had tons of flavor on it's own. Not too much of it, not that oily, and a great exterior crunch to a juicy piece of chicken. The Korean BBQ glaze was delicious and paired well with the large cut house-made pickles and brioche bun. I came here because my friend is always talking about this place so I came to try it for myself. So first I came for the happy hour and my friend came for the burger special. For the happy hour it was great experience. The bartender was very efficient and even gave us a taste of the special liquor created by Capital Grille. The food was good, I remember enjoying the food items. The shrimps were really good and I would definitely recommend that. The Cesar salad was good but I would have wanted more. The lamb chops were good, but they were overcooked and not our desired temperature. Next time I will definitely order from the regular menu. Finally dined at a Capital Grille - I can't believe it has taken me this long to go to one given they are a chain and this one is basically across the street from my office. We came for lunch on Wednesday and I was surprised how empty the restaurant was at 12 pm. It never filled up / became lively which was surprising to me - I figured there would be more business lunches taking place. The dining room interior was nice and regal - we were offered a choice between a booth or a table for 4. Our waiter was Edgar - he was funny and kind. He refilled my diet coke often, without me asking. I had the sushi-grade seared tuna entree - it was delicious. It wasn't a huge portion, so I was able to easily finish my plate, and it was light enough that I didn't feel sleepy going back to the office. We also ordered a side of truffle fries to share for the table - they were so fresh, warm, and delightful! Don't skip out on dessert - their cheesecake is delicious. It had a creme brulee style top and it was served with a yummy strawberry sauce on the side. I wasn't a fan of their flourless chocolate espresso cake though - too rich for me. My one complaint is how long it took for our entrees to come out. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet it took 50 minutes for the food to come out - we didn't even have starters. Thank god for the complimentary breadbasket. The steak was great, the food was delicious. The decor is steakhouse. The server was friendly and attentive. Only complaint was my wife ordered a Vodka Gimlet that was a little too sweet for her she mentioned it and the server offered to take it back and have it remade. We almost never do that. Well we got it back and he left out ALL the simple syrup so it was way too tart. It was as if he was bugged he had to remake it and to spite her he left all the sweetener out completely. I'm no stranger to the Capital Grille, I have been to their locations in Stamford and on 42nd and have had good experiences at both. Since steakhouses are a favorite of educational dinners, it was only a matter of time before I found myself here. That time came the other night, when I attended one of those dinners here. This CG is located close to Rockefeller Center on the ground floor of a commercial building. The setup is typical of other CGs and steakhouses in general - a darker/masculine color scheme with high-end fixtures. As this was an educational dinner, we were seated in a private room where the vibes and decor continued. As expected, the menu was prix fixe, however we only had to choose our main. We started with a salad and some apps to share - fried calamari, mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto, and a bread basked with salted butter. Everything was quite tasty - the bread basket was a standout for me as it contained several carb varieties, all nice and soft. The butter was also room temperature which made it optimal for spreading. Even though we were at a steakhouse, I opted for the fish choice which was salmon. They cooked it medium with a slightly sweet glaze and paired with with some greens and onions. We also had shareable sides for the table - asparagus and mashed potatoes; both were full of flavor. For dessert we each had a slice of flourless chocolate cake which was a great finisher to the meal. Service was excellent, really on par with what I have seen out of other CGs I've been to. From the outside, you can tell this is a fancier restaurant so I was a bit judgy because I wasn't sure what the energy would be like when we got inside. So happy I didn't let my inner thoughts turn me away because this was an amazing experience. We didn't have a reservation but were seated promptly by such a nice and warm hostess. Our waitress was so bubbly and helpful as my friend and I took time to review the menu and decide on our order. We went with a bottle of Cabernet which paired so nicely with everything we ordered. For our apps, we got the Prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella and the Lobster crab cake. The prosciutto was fried so the texture was crispy and amazing with the cheese. The Lobster cake was full of lobster and crab and the flavor was incredible. The T-bone steak was cooked exactly how we asked and had the right level of meat to fat ratio. It was also in a delicious mushroom and fig sauce that was so yummy! For dessert we ordered the butter pecan ice cream and cups of coffee. Out of everything the ice cream was my least favorite; it had a gravel like consistency and watered down taste. The coffee, however was also tasty. The service was amazing and so was the food. While I enjoyed everything about my burger and fries, I tried my friend's steak sandwich and it was perfect. If I had known the steak was going the be tender and juicy on delectable bread, I would have ordered it myself. I've steered away from steak sandwiches because I'd always found, at other places, the meat to be chewy and just tough to eat, not done properly. We were looking for a late evening snack on a weekend, and we ran to Capital Grille with a some time to spare before the kitchen closed for the evening. This was a top 10 dining experience. The food and service were excellent. Rian was a great server. Very personable and kind. Meal was well paced and not rushed on a Saturday night. We did not opt for appetizers, but chose several side dishes to share and saved room for dessert. Steaks were cooked perfectly, lobster was sweet and delicious. Every side dish was great. The cream corn is sweet and not heavy. The mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful and the french fries were perfect. I can never resist the coconut cream pie, which is more like a tart rather than a pie, with yummy whipped cream and toasted coconut garnish. We have visited several Capital Grille's and always have a good meal, but this was incredible. Let me start off by saying The Capital Grille is a staple no matter where you are in the country which is why we chose this place initially. We were looking forward to the same five star consistency we're used to and I hate to say it, but this location fell short. We took a seat at the bar which we typically love and the vibe was a bit empty so the bar was the best choice, for reference--we were there for lunch on a Monday. They were out of the wine by the glass we requested and provided no substitute or suggestion which did make us feel some kinda way. The bread basket was blasé and missed the mark. We ordered a wedge salad with steak which we asked for medium and it came out rare (we sent it back and it came back disheveled). We also ordered a side of salmon, and that was ok--tasted like a side of salmon we could've gotten from Applebees. We ordered a French onion soup and that was really the rockstar of the day. Who would've guessed?! The service was lackluster and not memorable, which is really surprising given that the restaurant was empty. I'm pretty heartbroken that this spot really missed the mark overall--we had higher expectations and I think we've crossed this spot of the list of the go-to lunch spots, the price, service and overall vibe just don't make sense. read more

Attended a work event at The Capital Grille and had a great time! Our event was held in a private room in the back which was spacious with reliable audio/visual and good lighting. Staff were nice and attentive. Pacing of food was appropriate. For apps, the calamari was very tasty! Each piece was well-seasoned and fried nicely with an appropriate amount of batter. The prosciutto wrapped mozzarella was actually a piece of cooked prosciutto wrapped around a thick chunk of fresh mozzarella. Despite it being cooked, the savory flavors of prosciutto were still present and complemented the cheese. Salad had a good dressing to greens ratio which gave it enough flavors but not overly salty or tangy. For mains, the filet mignon was overall cooked nicely. I asked for medium rare and they delivered for the most part. It was well seasoned on the outside but not enough to reach the middle sections of the meat. The side mashed potatoes were creamy and I enjoyed the little bites of potato skin. The asparagus were standard. The chocolate espresso cake exceeded my expectations for a high end steak house! It was described to be a cake but felt more like a mousse in texture. It was smooth and silky with a side of fresh cream (legit fresh cream, not canned). We visited last week during our NYC trip to see the Holiday displays as well as celebrate three special birthdays. We had a group of seven and was lucky enough to be put in a private room upstairs which was great because we had two young kids. The room definitely made it much more intimate and quiet as the restaurant was completely booked and incredibly loud outside the room with multiple other larger parties. The restaurant interior is of a modern steakhouse and great ambiance. Our server Maria was amazing and made the entire experience even more amazing. She was patient, attentive, and always checking in on us. We had a seafood tower appetizer which was great. for dinner, we had porterhouse, ribeye, scallops and the kids had burgers and mac and cheese. everything was so good and we left full and warm! We had a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old who were on their last leg. Our baby really just wanted to crawl around after sitting in a stroller for hours. The Maitre'D noticed us struggling and showed me to a side room where I could let him crawl. This man was the absolute nicest! In a busy, busy restaurant, he was somehow able to care for so many people, and we were just some of his beneficiaries. What a kind soul. Two other men on the waitstaff--Eduardo and Joey (I think) were especially warm to us as well. They took forever and were served ice cold. Then the entrees arrived maybe 5-7 minutes after the apps were delivered. There was no chance of even asking the waiter to heat or refire the apps. No apologies. So clearly timing was an issue. They cleared our barely touched appetizers with not even as much as a question and dropped the entrees off. The entrees were hot. Lamb and steak were both tender. No real complaints there. Sides were good. Dessert was hard as a rock. Like a hockey puck. So it was a very very long night. While I enjoy attentive service, I do not like feeling forced and expedited through each course- especially when each plate is $20+ and average entree pricing are well over $40. Don't be deceived by the "Lobster & CrabCakes" label on the appetizer menu. As it may say (made for 2-sharing) , it is ONE crab and lobster cake. Not lobster tail + Crab Cake. The steak had little to no flavor, was extremely chewy, and just overall wasn't impressive for the $77 price point. The wine was the best thing they had and at $37, it definitely was the overall highlight of the meal. The mango cocktail with tequila was good, but tasted more like puree/mixer. All in all, a lovely venue with a normal wait even on weekdays. Luckily, I made a reservation - but we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. It has the potential to be great but it just isn't for me. We had lobster bisque and lobster and crabcakes for dinner. I had to filet mignon with specially prepared, onions, and mushrooms. my wife had twin New York medallion steaks and lobster. Everything was cooked to perfection and rather large portions the staff at the capital Grille we're very inviting friendly and knowledgeable on the items on the menu. They did not helicopter over us and let us enjoy our meal. They will check on us from time to time, they kept our drinks. Fall desserts were first class we had the crème brûlée. we were celebrating our son, leaving for a new job so the waiter surprised him with a very nice dessert on the house.
