We had to ask for their $35 prefixed menu as we were only presented the lunch executive menu. We were in and out within an hour. Salmon cakes (5/5): The patty was reasonably sized and was filled with tons of salmon as well another kind of white fish? Not sure if it was crab or other kind of filler. Still a good blend of flavors. Braised beef (3/5): The cut of the meat was sizable. It was extremely tender and ripped apart easily but ultimately was way too salty and a bit too dry. So I've come here several times and have had mixed experiences in both food and service. Perhaps the latest experience was an outlier but certainly enough for me not to come back. The decor and space has that old, distinguished steakhouse feel with staff all round to help. We came in for lunch and it was fairly empty. We ordered the following: 1. Sweet chili tossed calamari - delicious. The calamari was tender and the batter was nice and crispy while still having enough sauce to enhance the favor of the dish. 2. Tuna tartare - nothing special...at all. Would pass next time. 3. Grilled octopus (special of the day) - delicious but pricey. 4. Filet (14 oz) - This was a huge disappointment as it was under seasoned/bland and had no crust at all. I can't even say that the steak had the tenderness that I'm typically looking for. It was light gray, under seasoned and lacked any flavor. 5. Chilean seabass - absolutely delicious. 6. French fries - nothing special 7. Creamed spinach - too salty. 8. Mac and cheese - the noodle that they use is like the same as Kraft mac n cheese. It was small and not memorable. Very disappointed in that. So food was mixed but leaned more disappointing for the most part. The food took forever to come out, 11:30am-1:15pm lunch, which is unacceptable and the service was lacking. No follow up, no apologies for the extra wait, no offering of new beverages, etc.... Overall, I would recommend but with caution. Everything won't be a home run and maybe you choose their greatest hits. read more

Came here with my fiancée , sister in law and brother in law for restaurant week . The restaraunt is beautiful. I ordered a Caesar salad and Argentinian steak which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables . My fiancée ordered the short beef ribs , my sister n law ordered the chicken parmesan and my brother and law ordered the filet mignon . For dessert we got the brownie and the assorted gelatos/sorbets. I would say it's really not worth $100- the steak added $20 to the total price and the small bowl of mashed potatoes costed $16. Ambiance is great but the food is meh at best. Bobby Van's is one of my go-to restaurants in midtown for lunch and after work drinks (shout out to the bartenders Ryan, Leia and the rest of the staff for treating me and my guest so well every time we come in). I took my family from out of town (7 of us) to dinner last Saturday and wow! First the service was amazing. The head server (I forgot his name, I should have wrote his name down - Roberto?) and the other staff was there for the table for everyone's needs and they always checked on us. Everybody at the table loved the food. Personally, my short-rib was so tender, paired nicely with the bottle of Cab the table was drinking. It felt like we were at home for the holidays. The energy with all the guest was so warm and inviting. I do this them every year for the last several years, and I been to many restaurants in the area. I found myself at Bobby Van's the other night for an educational dinner. I enjoy attending these since it's a chance for me to learn, network, and (more times than not) try a restaurant that's new to me. The name Bobby Van's was always in by periphery, but I didn't know much about the brand so I was excited to check it out. There's actually a Bobby Van's closer to my office, but the dinner was being held at this location on 50th which wasn't too far of a walk for me. Walking in at 6pm, I was met with the usual after work crowd plus casual diners. The decor was pretty standard steakhouse - lots of dark woods paired with tile. I didn't find it to be as upscale as other steakhouses I've been to, but it worked. As with other dinner programs I've been to, we had a prix fixe menu but were able to choose from a few selections. We started with a bread basked which contained flatbreads, focaccia, and breadsticks - the focaccia was a standout as it was pillow soft with a nice crispy crust. I started off with the Caesar salad which was pretty food - I want to say it was a smidge overdressed but it didn't take away from me enjoying it. I usually always get steak when I'm at a steakhouse, so I decided to go with the skirt steak. The beef was good, not overly tough which is always a risk with skirt, and it was paired with a tasty sauce that really added to the dish. We were also served sides of broccoli and mac and cheese; these were fine - the mashed potatoes were pretty standard, and I would like the mac to have been a little creamier. For dessert I chose the gelato, which was kind of a letdown because I was pretty much served supermarket quality ice cream. Service was good, and overall I had a fine experience at Bobby Van's. I have to take into consideration that I was here for an educational dinner, but still I've been to these at other restaurants before and they've served better than what I had here. That being said, if circumstances found me here again I wouldn't be disappointed - I'm just not running back. read more

Excellent service and great decor. We sat at the private table at the top of the stairs and they treated us like gold. But it all comes down to the food and that didn't disappoint. Scallops were excellent and fillet was cooked to perfection. Their sauces are a bit lacking and underwhelming but the steak is the star. All sides were excellent especially the corn and Brussel sprouts. For apps, it's all about the applewood bacon and sweet chili calamari. Super close to Times Square in a great location. This was an unexpected gem on our trip. My wife had booked reservations for the end of the trip (due to the New York Marathon being run on Sunday) but not early, so we went for a walk around our hotel, and stumbled into this place. Good stumble. For starters, this is a nice restaurant - white linen tablecloths, top service, and an excellent experience. We started by ordering a bottle of wine, but it turned out they were out of stock. The waiter made a good suggestion which we took, to go for a Paul Hobbs Crossbarn. It was a 2016 vintage, and had a smooth taste on the palate, as well as being fruit forward - it was one of the stars of the meal. We ordered a Caesar salad for our appetizer. It didn't have anchovies, but was big enough that it was able to be split and give us both a good start. My wife selected their Porcini Scallops - she's a bit of a seafood lover, and particularly scallops and she enjoyed these. I on the other hand, went for the 12 ounce Filet Mignon, which was served medium rare, and could be cut with a butter knife it was so tender. Each bite exploded in flavor in my mouth. We had sautéed spinach for our side with the dinner. The service was epic - the water glasses never ran dry, and we were attended to quite nicely. The food was equally impressive, and was very well prepared. The price is what you would expect from a top tier restaurant in New York near Times Square and Broadway.
