Grumpy servers = Grumpy food. If the servers just bring you the food and you never see them again.. thats the good part. If you ask for anything such as napkins or utensils they will think you are making them do whats far and above their job. Came here for my parents' 40th anniversary and the service was just awesome. The staff were so easy to talk to and they were quick to provide us with our order. The only complain I have is that it seems like they now put less sauce in the orders. I have been here a few times but last night, it seems there was a lot less flavor to our order. Probably one of my favourite restauraunts! As a Toronto native, I was a regular at their Toronto location. I was so excited to discover they had locations in Vancouver and had conveniently opened one by my house. I've been to this location once so far and the experience was great. Albeit, the location was new and service in some respects was a bit slow, it was expected with a packed house and lineup out the door. I made a reservation in advance and they accommodated a group of 12 of us. The food arrived fairly quickly considering how busy they were. We did have to ask for water a few times, and paper towels since they had not been provided. My friend had ordered additional items towards the end of our visit, and ended up cancelling them when they didn't arrive before we left. It worked out though because she was rather full by that point anyways. I have tried other seafood boil restaurants and they just don't compare. The flavours are finger licking good and the sides (like cajun fries) are tasty. I personally love that they serve them in bags (instead of directly on the table) since it makes it easy to dip and keep the mess contained. A few other reviewers commented on the fact there are no plates or utensils, but that's expected with a seafood boil. It can get messy- I wore a white top and only found I had to wash my hands at the end of it. The bib and gloves certainly help! read more

If you are into neat and tidy way to eat forget it. The food experience is messy and when you think you can get that damn shrimp out of it's shell. Squish! It's all over the damn table! My friend ordered beer and he just knocked it over a bit and it was all over the table! The way they serve the food to you is very strange. Waitress came by with a bucket and she pulled out our food in plastic bags! I was surprised they didn't use a pig trough for this restaurant. We went during their soft opening in mid-Jan so we didn't expect there to be 5-star everything. We can tell the staff were still pretty green so expectations were pretty low. The food came out fairly quickly and it was tasty. We ordered a pound of crawfish, 2 pounds of shrimp, 2 pounds of clam and 1 pound of snow crab legs. Oh and also added in okra and corn. Everything was good, except my only gripe is the cost of the corn! Seriously, $1 per piece of corn? We ordered the everything flavour (yummy!!) and medium spicy. The spice was a pretty good level, especially since we all could handle our spicy foods decently. For the most part, the servers were fine. A little all over the place but we eventually got our food and drinks in a timely fashion. However there was this 1 person, not sure what her position is there, but she's an older Asian lady and she was quite abrupt and rude. Very nice food and some beers. Nothing special for drinks but it's there. Service was good but not great, speed is fine too. Quite a cute interior although it looks alright on the outside. A few spots to sit and a few parking spaces along the streets. Walking distance to bus stops too. The have food on the table and a glove for each person to eat with. I mean if you're not used to eating with everything spread out on the table you can always bring your own bowl or plate or even a bucket. Food for kids just messier for them, small or medium groups, or even alone. Don't really suggest seniors unless they have stronger teeth because of the corn or some seafood like the crab. read more

It was a fun experience, i went here for my birthday last year and we ordered clams, shrimp, crab, crawfish and it all came in this wonderful, garlicky, wet spicy sauce. I was at the Crab Pot in Seattle the year before for my birthday and the Cap'n compares very favorably, nice atmosphere and just as busy so making a reservation is a must. Went here at 8pm on Sunday. Got seats right away. It was our first time going here, so we exactly didn't know what to get and how the process is. The waiter explained to us how to order and what is the popular sauce. He's very nice! We ordered clams and craw fish. I really liked the clams but not the craw fish so we ordered shrimps and rice. Rice was so good! Very reasonable price for sea foods. Of course if you'll get lobster you'll pay more. If you don't like to eat with your hands with gloves on this restaurant is not for you. Seafoods are served in bags. You eat them in plastic bags. If you wanna keep your table clean and and not messy put those empty shells in the bags and the waitress will remove them for you. read more

Came to the new location on Kingsway with my friends and my bf. I liked how there's a nice, modern sink located in the restaurant which makes it very convenient after eating with your messing hands and you don't need to head to the bathroom. I also liked the fact that they give you gloves if you don't want to use your hands.The shrimps were pretty good and so were the sausages. The only thing I found was that there wasn't much flavor compared to the seafood place in San Francisco and the corn was pricey as hell! I have been here twice each time with a party of 10, the first time I just ordered the chicken teriyaki with rice it was quite plain and tasteless but everyone that had the boil seemed to enjoy it so I was looking forward to coming back to enjoy it myself. On my second trip there I ordered the lobster it was over cooked and rubbery I couldn't eat it, 2 other people at my table tried it and agreed, they suggested that I complain so I did. The server said they would talk to the kitchen about it, when she returned she just said they have to cook it longer because it is full of bacteria. I didn't eat it they didn't offer me anything else, they didn't give me any discount on my meal or offer anything to compensate me. I payed the $60 for the lobster and left. I will not be back, at least to this location (I hear the Richmond one is much better) read more

We were really looking forward to trying the Captain's Boil since my wife saw the poster for the lobster roll deal starting on July 15th but were very disappointed when we went in today. The lobster roll had relish and mayo on it which was unusual and it also had bacon but the bacon was basically raw. The overall flavor of the lobster roll was extremely bland and when we asked for some additional sauce or something to put on it to give it some flavor they said they don't have anything at all in the kitchen that they can offer. Our daughter ordered the chicken teriyaki with udon and the portion of chicken was good but it too was totally flavorless and it looked like it was boiled. The teriyaki sauce came on the side to add some flavor but they only gave about 1 tablespoon worth of teriyaki sauce. Other people looked like they were enjoying their food but we clearly didn't have the same experience. My sister and I ordered take out of a pound of snow crab legs. The price came to $20.00. We had the Captains Boil seasoning due to the fact I have a dairy allergy and all the other seasons have butter in it. I can't say much for the sides they offer there, but the legs were delish! The captains boil sauce we ordered was mild. It has a nice zing and warming of the mouth but was the correct heat for us. The sauce has loads of garlic and we saved the sauce to use over pasta or mixed vegetables. Beware! Do not wear a white shirt when eating crab! They said their seafood is fresh and never frozen. For a pound of snow crabs we received 5 crab legs total. It was enough for the two of us ( plus we had our own sides at home). There was quite a bit of meat in all the legs. We basically spent a lot of time at home taking apart the crab and sucking up the juices. We felt like cave-women! It was nice to eat slowly! One of the best prepared crab legs I've tasted. Be prepared for a very messy, very hands on dining experience where you're eating everything (and I do mean everything) out of plastic bags with your hands, even your side dishes. You haven't lived until you've gnawed on half a potato covered in buttery goo, no salt provided, advertised as a side dish. I think this is the kind of place where you either love it or hate it. Shrimp were okay. Shrimp basket, fries and calamari were okay. Two diners got all their food before the third got any and the lobster never arrived at all. They did comp us for the shrimp and the lobster, so that's something. However, for the price you pay, you could get your seafood with a steak and some real cutlery, cloth napkins and real plates at the Keg. Captain's Boil makes for an interesting dining horror story, but we'll never go again. read more

The atmosphere of this place is super awkward.. I came there at lunch, waited for 45 mins and could not get a hang of the server. I gave up and gave it a try at dinner time on a weekday. I came at around 6pm and it was pretty empty. I ordered fish and chips and mussels in Captain's Boil sauce, medium spicy. The fries were surprisingly good but tasted more and more bitter towards the end?! The sauce for mussels was good but the there was way too much raw garlic that overpowered everything. So for food, it was meh in general. The atmosphere was so weird when all you can hear in the background is the servers trying to explain the menu and seafood price, diners were arguing about the wrong order, tables around you are super messy, etc. I was shocked by how much waste this place generates. If you are an environment friendly person, DO NOT come here. The seafood comes in plastic bags, you use plastic gloves (which will be punctured easily by your nails and seafood so what's the point?!), plastic bib, plastic utensils, styrofoam bowls... From line up to following up our delayed orders to missing our first order of crab & informing us at first that it was in process but after waiting for so long they finally informed us that there was a system error which failed to deliver it to re-ordering shrimp but the sauce turned out different from the first order and when we complained they tried to replace it with a new one although the taste was still different and we requested it again to be changed and the server told us that they will just wash it with hot water to take out the spicy taste which we then declined and ended up cancelling our order-----these were total disasters!!! When we were ready to order, they asked us to go back to the first table. I did not make a reservation to sit like this. I was unhappy but because of the food, we decided to just move. The waiter came and took our order. When we looked at the time, it was after past 20 min after the order was taken. We kind of thought something was not right but because they were busy, we just thought that our food prep was taking long. We gave ourselves 10 more mins.
