My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a rainy weekday while visiting the island. I would say our experience here was a bit underwhelming overall. The place was not busy at all, so we were able to get a table with a great view of the water. We waited a long time before our server came with menus. She was very pleasant when she did come and it seemed like another long wait before we got our sodas. There were five tables with people at them, including ours, and it was just after 1:00 PM. We ordered a blackened chicken sandwich with fries and a smash burger. Both sandwiches were served hot but were kind of bland; nothing really special about them. The fries were perfectly cooked and crispy, the favorite part of my meal. I have no real complaints about this place. Most people there were just drinking which seemed to have received quicker service than we did. The food was just ok. Bland mostly. I started by looking at reviews for this place. I saw a lot of 1 star reviews but from 2-3 years ago. I simply refuse to give a 1 star because I've only been here once. Here are a few disappointments - 1. The burgers taste like they are out of a box. 2. The nachos with crab has imitation crab that you can't taste on it. 3. The lettuce in a salad is not fresh. 4. The beer is sold in cans but priced as bottles. Here are a few good things - 1. The nachos aren't bad but just lack a bit. 2. The pepperoni crips are DELICIOUS. 3. From previous reviews, the service has seemed to improve a bit. 4. It's on the water and a decent view. Overall, I wouldn't spend the time here. My friends and I wanted a spot to relax for a while during our day at Kelley's Island, and we thought that The Casino would be a good place to drink and hang out. The entire outside area was packed full of people, so we decided to grab a table inside. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I ordered a vodka Redbull because we were all getting a bit sleepy after our long day, and the drinks were made quickly with accuracy. Yes that's right smoking behind the bar as she served the bar. So I had to go inside to get drinks from a nice gentleman bartender because the lady outside wouldn't serve us drinks. Great Place. Awesome environment. Weekend days have live entertainment which draw drunk wacky crowds. Weekend nights bring in the booze cruise with a kick-ass DJ and a total dance party inside. Wouldn't recognize the place from day to night. Outside is the tiki bar with a more chill atmosphere and good place to get drinks instead of waiting inside. Dockage located right off the patio where all the cigarette boats show their stuff. Great view of the lake from the patio. Menu not too extensive but it's all good bar food. Great burgers and perch. Some unique awesome apps include pepperoni crisps, fried pepperjack cheese balls, fried zucchini, and crabmeat nachos. So let me start by saying the back porch seating on the lake is wonderful. My husband and I watched boats docking while we ate lunch. We decided to try our first ever Bloody Mary by recommendation of a friend, and though I don't have anything to compare it to, it was pretty darn tasty. One huge shrimp and a pickle accompanied the typical celery and olives. Next we ddciddd to try deep fried pepperoni because I've never seen that on a menu and couldn't not try it. The verdict: tasty but waaaaaaay too much. Like even a table of 6 probably wouldn't have finished it. It was crispy like a chip but maintained the pep flavor, but it was also served with a pouch of Kens ranch dressing and I think it'd be much better suited with a homemade house ranch that's thicker to dip like a chip since that was the vibe it was giving off. We felt bad leaving what looked like an untouched portion but I don't think it would've reheated well. My husband got the walleye and fries and I went out of my comfort zone with the clam strip po boy. I love a good po boy but never had anything with clams and this was pretty spot on, the spicy tangy sauce topped it off. The clam strips were deep fried and sweet and the cole slaw balanced it out nicely. There were some other good seafood selections on the menu so I'd definitely do a return trip for that lakeside ambiance! read more

Nice location and fairly standard bar food. Prepare your gut for burgers and deep fried. That being said - the Walleye basket I had for a late lunch had two large filets that were not terribly greasy and very fresh. The "tartar sauce" was mayonaise that had hovered near a jar of pickle relish but never really met it for merging purposes. Onion rings and fries were nothing special. The $8 Bloody Mary had a $4 single shrimp on it, $1 worth of Bloody Mary Mix, $1.75 worth of celery, olives and various skewers/picks and .25 cents worth (being generous here) of vodka. Their pour needs to be a little longer on the alcohol and they could have a pretty spectacular signature drink on their hands. The presentation is on-point, but it's all sizzle, no steak. Delivery falls flat and it's basically a really impressive glass of spicy tomato juice. As a dining spot, it falls squarely into the just acceptable but not noteworthy file. As a bar, it looks like it'd be a lot of fun. 3 stars for location, the freshly fried generous walleye filets and the bus boy who was more concerned about our service needs than our server. He checked on us several times and sent our server to us regularly. If this place wasn't dockside next to Jet Express, it probably wouldnt have survived. read more

I gave 1 star because I could not give 0. We went in on Friday. The place maybe had 4 tables. We sat down with 7 people and asked if, for one of our guests, we could get just cheese and a bun because they did not eat meat. They serve hamburgers so I did not think this was a crazy request plus they were not busy at all. The waitress went back and asked and they said no. this place was always super-seedy while i was growing up. it was pretty much the only place on the island we were forbidden from visiting. they finally remodeled it about five years back, and it looks nice now. there's a big patio with a bunch of park-style benches, and it looks over the lake. Came here with friends on our very first trip to the island. Decided to come here for dinner when we found out that tickets to Put-in-Bay on the ferry were sold out for evening. Figured that the location was fun and perfect for the island feel, only to be EXTREMELY disappointed. Not only did we have to wait over 20 minutes for our beer orders to show up at the table, but their "cod" is literally a hunk of breading with NOTHING in it. Don't waste your time. Kelleys Island, the home of many summers of a misspent youth. I always have preferred KI to the Put-in-bay crowd as it is more laid back and has less of the frat party feel. Anyone who has ever spent a summer night on the island knows that the bars tend to close down in typical order every night. First the Pump, then Bag the Moon, and lastly The Casino. Island-goers habitually make their way from one bar to the next as the music slowly dies and the taps stop flowing. As you make your way to the Casino, the environment usually changes to a younger and more raucous crowd. Admittedly, The Casino has lost a lot of its charm over the years. It was always nice to sneak in underage because you could simply walk in through the back patio. This was great when I was underage, however, is quite annoying at best now. Over time, many of the mainstays of the Casino have also changed faces. Gone are the interactive and personable bartenders (Bridgette). Chicago has now taken over behind the bar, and it is always a guess as to what type of mood he might be in for the night. On good nights, he can joke around and challenge oncomers to completely onesided arm wrestling matches (he used to be a professional~ props to him), while on bad nights, he can tend to be quite abrasive. With all things Kelleys Island, there is a tradition with each establishment. The Pump has the Brandy Alexander and billiards. Bag the Moon has its strawberry shots and typically the better live bands. The Casino closed down the night with a 20 person long New York, New York chorus line. Sadly, they no longer allow this timeless tradition that put closure on many a good night. As others have said, the daytime and nighttime versions do differ quite a bit. I won't comment on the Casino during the daytime as many others have given an accurate picture. Unfortunately, I just feel that there are better places to be on the island during those times of the day: West Bay to watch OSU football, the winery for horseshoes and volleyball, etc. read more
