This evening, we decided to dine at the White House Restaurant in Meyersdale. It was a great choice. Since we moved away from this area in the late 60's, our dining at the White House back then was on a limited basis. We do remember eating at this establishment with my wife's brother in law sometime in the past. Two of our party had the haddock one fried and one grilled, one had the crab cakes and I had the special (stuffed scallops with crab stuffing). Our meals also came with the bread and soup bar. The selection of bread was great, maybe 5 or 6 kinds, and the soup of the day was delicious beef noodle. Cubes of Swiss and cheddar cheese were also available. Everyone enjoyed the great service, the great food and the family ambiance. We will return again when we are back in this area. read more

White House restaurant is in the back of a little neighborhood. You would never find it if you were just driving around looking for a place to eat. Fortunately, we asked the GPS to list restaurants and this one came up. As soon as we pulled up, I fell in love. It's a cute little place with family photos on the wall. The whole place is done in wood, and it looks like a little family restaurant where locals come. All of the dinners they serve come with salad and the soup and bread bar and a side dish. They also have additional soup choices in the kitchen. I had the stuffed pepper soup from the bar, which was like a non-spicy chili. It was very good. My sister got the Italian wedding soup, which was probably the best I'd ever tasted. We were both impressed with the bread bar, which had 4 different homemade breads that you can slice yourself. They also had some homemade rolls and applesauce. I ordered the artichoke dip chicken. It was a lightly fried chicken patty with the sauce on top. It was very good and very rich. I only ate half of it (because of the aforementioned soup, salad and bread!), so I got to enjoy it again later. If you're in the area, do try and find this restaurant. Stopped here after seeing their social media posts. I have been to Meyersdale several times but never knew this existed. More of a Homestyle type atmosphere - wood paneling, family restaurant which had a small bar area. We made reservations for 6 and were immediately seated. Then there was a substantial wait to be served. Overhearing a conversation between the bartender (owner?) and his wife I believe a waitress called off and they were understaffed. I saw several people unhappy with having to wait for refills, dessert choices etc. but this could have been an anomaly. I ordered a fall bourbon smash - which was good. Although it was missing something and was very light. We started with the crab dip which is a fall special - it was quite good with the proper proportion between the pretzel bites and crab dip - and was very good. I ordered the sirloin steak which came out looking more like a NY strip, and the medium I ordered was more rare in 75% of the meat. Also - it was chock full of gristle. I ended up leaving half of it untouched. For dessert I went with the pumpkin cheesecake which was good. Between the long waits to be served, refilled, and the steak - this place is good. Forgot to check in. I have had this place on my list for a while but finally we got to go and I feel like it was good timing. Start of fall almost and WH came with many drink and app specials. First off, can I just say that WH is great because it is easily identifiable as a family run place and nothing is a miss. I think that it's an acceptable trade that in order to receive proper treatment you may also not get served as quickly if and when only it gets busy. It is clean, it is quaint, things are refilled, food is hot, staff is friendly and talkative, as well as the town being promoted to visitors. My favorite parts were the app and the dessert. I also enjoy that you get compliments with bread of your choice and French onion soup. I would've appreciated my salmon to be just a touch more cooked and I unfortunately was sat under the ac unit and got chilly. Take away - it's hard to find real places that live up to their family name and value and just do things the right way. So I am glad to see WH does. You don't always need to reinvent the wheel if you can do the normal things. read more

The White House was recommended to us by our BnB and she told us we need reservations. So we walked over and made reservations for a few hours later. Everywhere in Meyersdale closes early and the White House is no different (why do they all eat dinner soooo early??!?) so we made an 8pm reservation bc I think that was the last one of the night. We also made a reservation for them to pick us up at the Bnb in a car!!!! Crazy. Anyways, the owners husband came and picked us up right on time. Really awesome guy - takes people to the restaurant for tips - how awesome is that! And he got us to the White house in time for our rez. They had an awesome drink menu. I forget what I got but it was something fall flavored. We also got crab stuffed mushrooms, cheesey haddock (I think that was the fish) and the prime rib. I didn't love the mushrooms but everything else was soo awesome. The meals came w a really delish salad and a side dish. Also it came w a soup bar!!! They had french onion soup, a bean soup, croutons and crackers, tons of bread options, cheese, and the most delicious apple butter. It was a ton of food and we left stuffed. The desserts looked great too but we were too full to eat any more. The whole meal was extremely reasonable priced. At the end of the meal they drove us home! Very nice restaurant to relax a bit and enjoy a good meal . Meyersdale is an everyone knows one another town and they are very welcoming to visitors. My husband and I stayed at a BnB in Meyersdale after biking from Cumberland, MD. The town is a bit hilly and getting to the restaurant would be a challenge after a long ride. Our BnB owner informed us that if we make a reservation here , we could text Mike for a free ride to the restaurant. Tips are optional but leaving a tip is a good thank you ! So we did just that and Mike happened to be the owner along with his wife who was also the chef. Mike was a nice person and the care they have for their business is evident. The food and drinks were also very good. We had the swordfish and steak and it was cooked perfect. There was also a self serve soup and bread bar with dinner. The menu was not your typical hamburger and salad. The food was really good. They serve alcohol. The desserts were delicious , we each tried one. They were so good, we went two nights on our GAP bike trip. If you are staying at a b&b while riding the gap, call and ask for Mike, he will pick you up and bring you in for dinner. We had their French onion soup, a typical house salad and their Chesapeake chicken, which was chicken topped with crab. My wife had chicken which was topped with Parmesan cheese and artichokes and also cole slaw. She said it was a bit sweet but good. Our chicken dishes were cooked perfectly and we enjoyed our meal and the service. (it did take a bit to get seated because of how popular the restaurant is, but not any more than some chain restaurants.) Visited while we were staying in Meyersdale. The outside of the restaurant may seem a little intimidating as it literally looks like a small, older, white house but don't let that keep you from going inside. Service was good for its size and so was the food. Since there aren't a lot of nice restaurant options in the area, this is definitely a diamond in the rough. Food was so good our first night we went back the very next night. Someone I believed to be the owner noticed that returned for a second evening in a row. Spectacular! I'm with a group of ten fellow riders and we spent the night at Yoders and dined here. I was so impressed. We were in from out of town. This place is two blocks off the main road. The atmosphere was cute and casual. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea. We both ordered the broiled seafood platter with coleslaw and cottage cheese. Then we can assess the the bread, cheese, and soup. We ate some cheese while we waited. The waitress did bring out the coleslaw and cottage cheese, and we throughly enjoyed those. The platter came out in a timely manner. Everything on the plate tasted awesome. Scallops melted in my mouth. The crab imperial stuffed shrimp was tasty. Haddock was seasoned well and was a good size. I would definitely get the platter again. Now onto desserts. I got the coconut cream pie. It was excellent and seemed to be homemade. The husband got true cheese cake plain but their were options to add blueberries, strawberries, and some else. This comfortable, clean restaurant with an extensive menu would be welcome anywhere; but in this small town it is uniquely head and shoulders above any other joint. On a trip cycling the whole GAP Trail, we spent the night in town and we're lucky to find this restaurant--for a relaxing experience from drinks through dessert. Complementing the entrees, the server welcomed us to the bread-and-soup buffet for fresh, healthy starters. A real gem! read more

This restaurant was suggested by the Inn on Main Street which is where we are staying after our 29 mile GAP ride. They have a shuttle that will pick you up and take you back. Thank you to Mike for the shuttle ride to The White House. Now for the food. I had the Chicken Bruschetta and my husband had the Pork Chops. Excellent flavors and pricing. Besides your main meal you also get a trip to the bread and soup bar where you slice your own loaf of various bread choices. This was an unexpected treat. This is a cozy little restaurant. Food is always good and fresh. I enjoy the patty melt here, it is my favorite. Staff are friendly and efficient. The dining area is small so busy times can create a little wait. They do have outside seating for warmer months. If you are in Meyersdale it is great place to dine linch or dinner. read more

A few blocks off the Main Street, the building is sparkling white in the sun. The interior is maple-colored panelling with maple booths, table & chairs. The extensive menu is pictured on Yelp. The specialty cocktails added Jazz or our lunch (5 o'clock somewhere). Entrees included two sides and we added a nice salad for a small upcharge. Apologies to the pig, but we had Virginia Ham, which was delicious. Our server was perfect. This restaurant is well-deserving of its number one rating. We are cycling the Great Allegheny Passage, and signs and Google maps led us here. The railroad depot museum right on the trail is also worth a stop. read more

My husband and I stayed in Meyersdale when he biked the Great Alleghany Passage. A lunch and two dinners at The White House proved to me that the reviewers and the Levi Deal Mansion innkeeper were correct in saying the food is consistently good. I especially enjoyed the hamburger salad, soup & bread bar, shrimp scampi and crab cakes. The atmosphere reminded me of "Cheers," with friendly regular customers. We also ran into some GAP bicycle riders from the Levi Deal Mansion and Yoders B&B who had been shuttled to and from the restaurant by the owner. If you're there in October, be sure to drive down Thomas Street to check out the Halloween house. Pretty spooky! read more

Very nice, clean, homey restaurant. It's a bit of a walk from downtown but worth it. We were hungry from riding the GAP and ordered our meals and an appetizer (hot pretzel - yum), then found out the soup and fresh bread bar were included (wish the menu had said that). We're from out of town, read the great reviews, drove 45 minutes to check it out, and arrived at 7 only to find it closed an hour and a half early for a private party. To make matters worse, most eateries close at 7, which was another reason we chose a place with a 8:30PM closing time. I wanted to like this place - I really did - it came recommended. Just passing through town, you don't get to give a place a second chance. The people were very friendly and accomodating. Fresh bread at a bread bar is a successful innovation, and their bean soup, also unlimited, was real good. It was the dinner that let me down. A kind of rubber steak of no known cut - vegetables, grilled on a grill that badly needed cleaning - OK the potatoes were all right. Three stars. LOCATION: Were were staying at the Levi Deal Mansion B&B. It's a 0.8 mile walk one way, not bad and a great way to work other muscles after riding a bike all day on the GAP. SERVICE: Very attentive, no complaints. ATMOSPHERE: This is an adorable local spot. When people enter, the staff knows EVERYONE and asks how their family is doing. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 4: as a person of mixed ethnicity (1/2 Southeast Asian and 1/2 English/Dutch; 100% American) two other patrons at the establishment gave me that look... the look of "Huh, Why is SHE here?" So, I was a bit uncomfortable due to the male who looked at me that way when we were waiting to be seated and the woman who looked at me that way when we were seated and eating and she was headed towards the bread/chili bar. read more
