I've been to a few vets around Ventura for the last seven years with my dogs and recently, my rescue kittens. No less than five friends I know that have cats insisted her care is unmatched and outstanding. While getting an appointment can be challenging because she is very popular and thus very booked up, it's worth the wait and her office approves ongoing prescriptions (my cats flea and tick meds) quickly and easily. Kendra is by far the best vet in this area from my experience. She's kind she listens and is incredibly personable her own personal experiences with her rescue cats, should she share, really shows the level of compassion and heart that she brings to her practice every day. This will be my last review for a long while because our beloved Soft Kitty went to be with her sister Hard Kitty last week. Soft stopped eating and was struggling so we made an emergency visit to see Doctor Cody. After our detailed feedback, his examination and her age (18 1/2) he diagnosed her with kidney failure. Dr. Cody did not recommend additional testing but we requested some bloodwork just to confirm. We appreciated Dr. Cody not pushing costly tests on an already difficult situation. The tests confirmed his diagnosis and we made plans to bring her back in a couple of days to have her put to sleep. Right when we walked in Christine ushered us into the love room (that's what I call it) which we greatly appreciate. We loved Soft up and when it was time Dr Cody came into the room. He genuinely shared his condolences and sat on the ground next to Soft and petted her. He told us that it was a selfless thing to do and it was the right thing to do. Soft went peacefully and we are grateful for all of the warmth and kindness shown by Dr. Cody, Drew and Christine and the entire staff! RIP Soft Kitty read more

Any Locals, Pls Don't go to there. My be loved cat had enough time to get proper treatment for 2month, however for 2months, The Dr didn't give "any" proper treatment. Due to lack of any treatment my cat passed away on the day we went to there!!! We visited there 3times. I didn't know it's so emergency because the Doctor didn't say anything about it. This horrible Doctor didn't explain to me my cat was in the emergency fatal situation. Well I was afraid of death but since the Doctor didn't mention about it, I didn't think it's emergency fatal situation. Why didn't he say that? Why didn't he ask us go to knowledgeable advanced doctors / specialist ? If you don't know what's causing & don't have any ideas, You should've gave us / refer us to more knowledgeable advanced specialists. My be loved cat obviously getting worse however he didn't do anything. Why I had to suggest treatment plans and research about it. Him&receptionist they don't care about anything. One time I was calling there because it's emergency, the office lady screamed /yelled at me "Noooooooookiooooooo" on the phone. At the last visit, he said my cat looks better then same day afternoon we had to go to access ( emergency) They told me my cat had toxic reaction from Thiaminethis cat doctor prescribed. First visit they charged a few hundred $ then the treatment was just prescribed food. Second visit was about $900 we got vitamin. I was speechless his treatment plan was $6 human supplements, I paid $900 then treatment plan was $6. This second time why why why why why you prescribe $6 vitamin to the cat who looks like being fatal. This point, my cat started not being able to walk&being weak. Why ???????????????? Third visit also a few hundred $, we got thiamine. I gave my cat thiamine, my cat started hard breathing. Then we had to go to emergency. If the Doctor is not specialized anything, why didn't he ask us to go to different place. Or refer to any specialist. For 2months, I had to research and think treatment due to they didn't tell me what to do!! I'm really regret about I went to there. You can go to there just only for cutting nails. Do not expect they will give you proper treatment. They never ever called us to see how's my cat doing during 2months. Obviously my cat was super emergency fatal situation but they never called us to follow up. I think all people here probably wanted my be loved one pass away. I know so because the receptionist here was so much attitude. The Dr didn't tell us any. I had to ask him what to do but still didn't get any make sense things. They wanted my love pass away. Simply They didn't do anything for 2months. And looks like they just leave my cat and see passing away. I could not write this for long time&should have Went to other places. We were able to get a last-minute appointment with Dr. Cody for our 18-year-old cat who was vomiting and had other worrisome symptoms. We were going out of town for two weeks the very next day so we weren't sure what the outcome was going to be. After Dr. Cody recommended a few tests it turned out that Soft Kitty had pancreatitis and needed medication and hydration. We decided to leave Soft Kitty at The Cat Doctor for two weeks so that she could get the care that she needed. We called every couple of days to get an update from Christine and Drew and they were always very helpful. Although we live in Las Vegas and Simi Valley we choose to go to Thousand Oaks to The Cat Doctor because they specialize in cats and because of the great Yelp reviews. Don't hesitate. read more

Dr. Cody is such a nice man. He is understanding, caring and never judgmental. We had to put our kitty, Tia, down recently. He has a comfortable room set up for those purposes with gentle lighting and couches, not steel tables. We were able to sit together and hold her while she passed over, and Dr. Cody was so kind. This was by far the best experience I have ever had putting a pet down. That really meant a lot. I couldn't imagine taking my cats anywhere else. Aside from that event, I love that this vet is cats-only. They will never face a barking dog here or even dog smell. My only suggestion would be a way to enter from the back parking lot so that we don't have to carry our pets up stairs to get to the front. read more

This was my first time at The Cat Doctor. I brought my 2-year-old rescue cat, Oreo, in for a general checkup. I also called two other emergency vet hospitals and a backup vet to see if I could bring my cat in for a possible UTI. I want to write another super positive review for Dr. Cody and his team, the "Cat Doctor" of Thousand Oaks. This time I brought three males for neutering. Two were my indoor kittens, plus an outdoor male. The outdoor male is about eight years old, never neutered, and SOLID muscle. I am sure he had never been to a vet. He has been eating in my backyard for over a year. Dr. Cody always does a full exam pre-surgery and alerted me that the outdoor male had a hernia--which Dr. Cody repaired (after getting my approval). Taking a cat to Dr. Cody ensures that your cat will have pre- and post-pain support and will have Dr. Cody, an experienced caring professional, doing the surgery. His team were obviously able to manage a fearful, very powerful outdoor male with kindness. My kitties all came home safely and are recovering comfortably. The outdoor male is doing very well. He will hopefully settle into a life of no fighting, no more unneeded babies, and be calmer and happier. There is no post-surgery care needed as all three cats had pain patches placed at the back of their necks and have dissolvable sutures. That means all I need to do is to continue to provide love and comfort. I should add that all the support staff are always professional and very friendly. I have interacted a lot with the front staff, Christine and Drew. Both are professional, kind, thoughtful, and friendly. Finally, Dr. Cody's prices are very reasonable. read more

This is a wonderful place. I bought a Sphynx cat in Hawaii. I had him checked two times in Hawaii and they thought he was healthy. The Cat Doctor deserves five stars. My wife's cat of 11 years suddenly got sick this summer. His breed is supposed to live 15-20 years so it was very unexpected. We had just moved into the area so we didn't have a veterinarian. We found one in Newbury Park and took him there three times. Even though the service was competent it never felt like the vet cared about our cat or, by extension, us. He was very professional, but there was no connection. Meanwhile, our cat kept getting sicker and weaker. So we decided, in desperation, maybe a second opinion might help. I found the Cat Doctor on Yelp. He had good reviews and I liked that he specialized in cats, so we made an appointment. Everything about our experience with Dr Cody and his staff was excellent. On the phone setting up the appointment, when we arrived at the office, and when the assistant was taking his vitals everyone was so kind. I immediately felt that these folks CARED about us and our experience. And they LOVED cats. It made us feel okay, in a really hard time. Dr Cody came in and let us know after examining him that his original diagnosis was probably accurate. But he gave us a few more things to try. And the whole time he was very gentle and kind to our little guy. A few days later our cat took a turn for the worse. They saw us on a Saturday morning with no notice. He let us know there wasn't anything else we could do at this point. He was very kind and empathetic while he told us what our options were at that point, and how it would all go. No one wants to lose a beloved pet. If it has to happen, you want to know that you did your best and that the person you went to to care for him did their best. You want your cat to be treated like a member of the family. By the time we got to the Cat Doctor there wasn't anything he could do to change the outcome. But he treated us and our cat with such genuine kindness that it made all of the difference in the world. Thank you Dr Cody for walking with us in those few days with such gentle grace. Recently, my 14 year old cat's health began to deteriorate rapidly and I was not comfortable taking him to the veterinary clinic we went to since moving here. My sweet little Delilah came down with an upper respiratory infection and my usual veterinarian was booked out a week and a half. I saw that The Cat Doctor had pretty decent reviews and when I called they were able to fit me in the same day. Due to COVID-19 I had to pull around the back and wait in the car while they took Delilah in by herself. This of course made me super nervous because I was a new client, had no idea how the staff was or who the vet was, and Delilah was going to be all alone in a strange new place, however I was glad to see that they cared about the safety of their employees and animals and were taking necessary precautions. Doctor Cody called me within 15 minutes to let me know that Delilah did indeed have an URI and told me the course of treatment. He also let me know that she was due for a vaccine and recommend to wait for her Delilah to get better before doing so, and when I mentioned this to a friend of mine going to school to be a vet, she said that was absolutely the right call because you never want to vaccinate a sick kitty! Doctor Cody also did a blood test per my request, and I even redeem a free nail trimming courtesy of Yelp. The price was pretty reasonable for the area and is about what I usually pay when I take her in to her usual place ($60 for a visit, $35 for meds, and roughly $60 for the blood test). The technician brought Delilah back to me and she was actually pretty calm about everything which lead me to believe that Doctor Cody and his staff treated her very well! Lastly, I also LOVED the DETAILED report I got when they handed Delilah back to me (see photo attached). My usual Veterinarian just gives me a piece of paper with a basic sentence or two about what was performed along with the bill. I never questioned it because I thought it was just a standard way of doing things. I used to be a service writer at an automotive shop and you always want to be as detailed as possible, listing what the original concern is, what you found, and how to fix it! This is a great way to CYA (cover your a**) and make the customer feel heard, which is exactly what The Cat Doctor did. Fast forward a couple days later, Delilah is feeling much better with the medication she is on and I couldn't be happier that she had a new veterinarian. On top of it all, I even got a follow up call to see how Delilah is doing from Doctor Cody himself. How awesome is that? He even took the time to address more questions and concerns I had.
