Recommended to me by a local, The Catch was as represented: a pretty good seafood joint with a pretty good bar. I sat at the bar and ordered a sh*tload of food because I hadn't eaten all day and was starving. I started off with a cup of gumbo which was much better than average because gumbo is all about the roux and their roux is darned good. Next, I had a half pound of boiled shrimp (chilled...peel 'n eat) and it was exceptional. Very fresh and the boil was nice with a good bite to it. I had two catfish filets and fries and hush pups to finish. The only issue I had was that the catfish didn't taste quite as "purged" as I like...just a tad bit "muddy" but still good. Fries were average, the pups above average. They kept the cold brews coming with excellent service at the bar. Staff members were very nice. We were terribly disappointed at the state of this restaurant now. We went in for dinner two weeks ago on a Tuesday night. For starters, the restaurant dining area was filthy, and every table was covered in trash and food from the people before. We stood for a long time waiting to order and when we were waited on...the young woman was confused and definitely overcharged us. We cleaned our own table and it was gross. Because one of us ordered water, we got a ridiculously small foam cup instead of a regular one. We watched our food get sat on the counter and left for more that 20 minutes before the "waitress" walked it 15 feet to our table. When she finally stopped horsing around, yes horsing around(throwing paper at coworkers, telling jokes, flirting with friends who were there), our orders were cold and wrong. We ordered gumbo, which she did not even bring. When we mentioned it, she reached over the counter, grabbed an enormous to go container and filled it halfway with gumbo and another with rice. The gumbo was rancid. It smelled so badly of ammonia that we had to cover it up with napkins to keep the stink from making our cold food taste even worse. We have been enjoying eating at this restaurant since it opened, what a terrible shame to see it being run this way. read more

Very nice place with great fried seafood. I've only been there twice and both times had the fried shrimp and whitefish basket and as I mentioned it was great. The hush puppies were even delicious, however the fries seem to be just filler. The seafood is piled on the soggy spuds. It would be great if they double fried them so they would be crisp, if it was up to me the fries would be featured in a separate basket. All in all, nice place and I'll be back. read more

I eat Crawfish from the Catch frequently. They have fairly good flavor but I dont understand why they don't purge before they boil them.

BF had fries & I substituted corn w/ boiled new potatoes. Any side instead of fries is allowed. Also had 1/2 order of fried green tomatoes & got fried jalapeño chips by mistake. Which were excellent btw & the fried tomatoes hit the table in a couple minutes. They decided to forgo their liquor license so our Shiner & Coors lite draft were FREE !! Stellar service from manager, bus boy & cashier (order at the counter) Fun, upbeat vibe with tv's & charging outlets all over. This location is my usual spot to dine late on Sunday evenings. I always get the same thing. The half and half which is fried shrimp and shrimp etouffee. The shrimp are usually good and the etoufee is only so so. God forbid if they added a little celery and onion to it. Some times I order oysters on the half shell but by Sunday they are invariably out. Tonight they were again out of oysters on the half shell. Disappointing... Tonight the wait staff was aggravating to the point I'm writing this review. First, most tables were empty of their usual metal box of condiments and roll of paper towels. Other tables needing cleaned. They weren't that busy. At no time did the wait staff check on me to see how I was doing or if I needed anything. This is common behavior at this location. I ordered $25.41 for one person which is a healthy tab for Tyler. I decided to try the small grilled jumbo shrimp (4) that come with one side for $8.99 plus my usual half & half which is $13.99. For some reason they charged me an extra 49 cents for red beans & rice. I have no idea why since the jumbo shrimp come with a side and the half and half comes with two sides. 49 cents - no big deal. When the food arrives the 4 grilled shrimp are fried instead of grilled and there is no tartar sauce or red sauce. I asked politely for tartar sauce and a lid for the red beans and rice to take home. And, I turned back the 4 fried shrimp and asked for grilled shrimp. My request for tartar sauce and a lid were ignored so I went up to the counter and got both myself. I also placed an order for a free lime Rita when I first ordered my food. And, I asked what time the cut off was for ordering a second rita. I was told 8:45 PM. While at the counter I checked on my grilled shrimp to see if they understood my order. After I had completed almost all of my meal 4 tiny grilled shrimp arrived in the same type of small bowl used for the sides. They were medium to small rubbery shrimp coated in a salty Cajun chemical spice that overpowers the shrimp to the point you cannot taste what you are eating. Not a good value for $8.99. They use the same Cajun chemical spice on the fresh vegetable side and it taste so bad I seldom order that side. They really need to invest in a better Cajun spice that doesn't taste like it has Benzene in it. The wait staff seems tired and over worked but it was close to closing time. At 8:40PM I ordered a second rita to beat the "strict" 8:45 PM cut off for free drinks. I have been turned down before for a free rita as early as 8:40 PM. I suppose we should not complain about free drinks however I feel the need to point out exceptions to the cut off rule. Tonight, a young black man came in from the patio at 9:05 and briefly talked and flirted with a waitress. She turned around and flipped the lights back on 2 rita machines and proceeded to make him a swirl which at 9:10 PM she delivered to the patio for him. I've seen the same thing happen when young black men come in late from the parking lot, order a drink to go after 8:45PM and then walk out with a free rita without ordering food. Nice for them but is this the best policy when other customers cannot get the same service? read more

All I can say is wow and wow! If you like fried seafood this is a great place for you to visit. As you can see from the photos and this is the platter the portions are huge! And being a fat man myself I'm struggling to finish this. I was very impressed with the staff, they really greet you with a smile when they are taking your order and made recommendations as usual, but the speed at which they got the food to me was within minutes. I like the location because it is on the corner of a major intersection and the business signs really light it up. They have a small bar but it's very attitude for the size of this bar and the type of clientele that they serve. And it's rather inexpensive. Ordered 5 pounds crawfish 1 1/2 pounds of shrimp and side to go with. Didn't have to wait long for our food. The cashier even rang up the food I wanted in a different way and it came out cheap for my family of 8. The Manager was exceptional and kept coming out and checking on us they even gave us a basket of fries for our one year old while we finished eating our delicious food for free. Today I ordered the regular order of fried jumbo shrimp basket and a cup of gumbo. Gumbo - This was very tasty and one of the best gumbo's I have had. I'm always scared to order gumbo because it is really easy to make bad gumbo. Was this homemade or premade? Sometimes it is hard to tell because there are so many restaurant suppliers now that sell decent premade soups. The shrimp and crawfish appeared to be previously frozen. However, the gumbo tasted like it had been cooked for a long time, or maybe it was made the night before, because of how the flavors melded together. The texture of the sausage also gave me the impression that it had been cooked for a long time. Time = flavor and that is the impression that I got from this gumbo. I would order again. If I could make a recommendation (again, I don't know if this was homemade or premade) is to use fresh crawfish instead of frozen. It is definitely more labor intensive but the texture would improve tremendously. I'll give the shrimp a pass on the frozen since I don't think you can get baby shrimp fresh. Fried jumbo shrimp - Oh my goodness. Perfect! One could say that anything fried would taste good. But good and great are two different things. The shrimp was great. The batter was perfectly seasoned and was crispy. The shrimp itself was plump and al dente. Don't change a thing. Loved it and can't wait to eat more! By the way, if anyone is curious, they have 3 sizes of shrimp baskets and I got the smallest one, which was 4 shrimp. It comes with 2 hushpuppies (perfectly fried as well) and french fries as well as tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. French fries - Why a separate review for fries? Well because I have some criticisms. My fries, like another reviewer here also mentioned, were soggy. There was a lot of oil on them and I didn't understand because the shrimp and hushpuppies were fried to perfection. Were the fries fried in a different fryer? Soggy, greasy fries typically means that the temperature in the oil wasn't high enough. Or it could also mean the wrong potatoes were used (Idaho Russets fry up the best but I suspect that the problem has something to do with the cooking process rather than the potato). So I would recommend the owner look into this. I'm more than likely going to just order a different side item to try instead of fries. Bottom line - Despite sad fries, I really liked the food here. I can't wait to go back and get some more shrimp and gumbo. Will probably try the po boys and boiled crawfish and boiled shrimp next. And all the fish. Ok maybe I will just try everything on the menu...Highly recommend The Catch and I hope they stay in business for a long time! read more

Stopped in here this evening after hearing positive buzz and we were certainly not disappointed. Family of four this trip. The Catch is what Tyler has been needing for too many years to count - a fantastic, no frills restaurant serving quality food at a fair price. The atmosphere was clean and very casual. There were several TVs hanging from the ceiling if you wanted to keep up with sports. When we arrived there was a solid line to order which normally tests my patience, but it moved very quickly and we were able to find a table just as fast. The owner greeted us immediately and helped me with the menu. Indoor or covered patio outdoor seating - we opted for indoor this trip. We ordered what amounted to 5 meals (I basically had 2 meals for my order - I tend to want to try way too much when eating at a new restaurant) and 2 draft beers. The tab was $44 - amazing! Our food was delivered in 6-7 minutes, hot and fresh. Meal #1 for me was the gumbo and cheesy grits, both of which were superb. The gumbo had a lot of flavor but wasn't too spicy (wife could even eat it which she liked), a couple of generous dashes of tabasco after her bites and it was ready for me. Meal #2 for me was the fried fish and shrimp basket which was excellent also. The fries were tasty to me - had good seasoning and a nice flavor - though they were not very crispy as some folks prefer (didn't bother me and my taste buds). Not being just a total pig, I did not finish all of my food and have some of the gumbo and grits in the fridge for a good lunch tomorrow. Wife had the fish tacos which came with a generous amount of fresh avocado on a toasted flour tortilla and was thrilled with her meal. Kids had popcorn shrimp and white fish kids baskets and both ate their meals up without a fight! The friendly staff impressed me to no end and we were checked on often to see if we needed anything else. We were thanked at least 3-4 times for coming in to eat with The Catch. Don't care for the fast-food counter- it's not clear what to do when you walk in. Sit? Order? Ordered the shrimp and Cajun tenders with house salad. The good- fried shrimp and tenders themselves were good with nice batter. The fair- salad was fine (except for warm dressing); nothing too good or too bad. The bad- ranch dressing was room temperature, fries and hush puppies were colder than room temperature- no excuse for that; half your menu is fried. Overall I'll go a mile down the road to Happy's next time. Update: I went back recently and had the cheese grits and gumbo only. They were solid so I've upped my review by one star. read more

I was impressed with how quickly our food came out, and it came out fresh and hot! Cheese grits were good, not great, but the seafood gumbo was excellent and had more real seafood in it than an entire red lobster. The hush puppies are solid, not fancy but cooked just right and with good flavor. Owner came around and spoke with us which I like. Wife ordered the shrimp po boy and although they went a tad bit heavy on the sauce, the taste was on point. Prices seemed very reasonable, 2 kids menu items, 2 regular items, an extra order of puppies, 2 drinks and 2 waters = very full and $38 out the door. I love fried oysters! My neighbour took me to this place and I was not disappointed. The garlic butter is to die for! I'm a senior on a budget, so I have to save somewhere, and I do$. So, I go to the catch and order just the fried oysters, 30 pieces at a time! Costly, ye$, but, I can't get enough oysters. They are made fresh to order, worth the wait! While your waiting, have a brain freezing margarita! They are yummy! The wait staff are very friendly! This place is a very family oriented. Bustling place and always seems to flow nicely. And the fried basket comes out really good. The boiled is toooo salty. Too much Cajun seasoning in the dish. The only thing I like in The Catch is custom service.
