No amount of cheese could cover how bad the fish tasted, and it honestly felt like the cheese was being used to mask a serious cooking issue. This was a complete waste of nearly $20. I also ordered the Grits & Gumbo, described as deep-fried grits with a crunchy exterior topped with house seafood gumbo. The grits were hard and bland, not flavorful. The gumbo itself was disappointing: the roux was thin and bitter, lacking depth or seasoning. The only decent part of the dish was the shrimp, but that alone couldn't save it. I finished the gumbo, so I'm not expecting a refund there, but the coddle plate absolutely should be refunded. It was genuinely inedible. Unfortunately, based on this experience, Flying Fish will not be getting any more of my business. Whoever is running the kitchen does not understand execution, seasoning, or basic seafood preparation. Strongly do not recommend.

It seemed as if our server was ready to leave or something as we overheard her telling a new server coming in that our table had already ordered. Maybe that is part of the reason why part of my meal was forgotten. She made sure she to let us know that she took it off, great- because we didn't get it. I would have ordered a second glass of wine, but she never came back by to ask. When she came by to ask about dessert, it came out as "you didn't want the dessert menu did you?"" ..... no, not asking that way. Our food was good and I'll give it another try, but not in a Saturday afternoon and definitely not for my birthday. So we left and are going elsewhere for dessert and drinks.
