What a great idea. The Cave is set in a business building. You first walk into the wine store. So far it makes sense. Back of the store leads you into the Cave restaurant. In the restaurant, you teleport to some del dotto type of cave wine tasting. Completely forgot we parked in a business building It's a small 12 table spot with a private event space in the back. This place is the best, there needs to be more like it! We went for dinner and wine on a Friday late afternoon. It wasn't too busy yet and we were seated at once. I love how it looks like a cave inside and you would never know from the outside of the building. We decided to do the wine tastings. They give you a card and you can try as many wines and sizes you'd like with it. You enter the card on the machine if the wine you want to try, pick an amount and press the button for the wine to pour in your glass. It's such a perfect way to sample lots of wines. For dinner we got the charcuterie board, Margarita pizza, truffle fries, and ahi tuna. Honestly, we shouldn't have ordered so much because we couldn't even eat half despite how amazing everything was. Next time if we do the wine tasting we'll probably just get two appetizers but if we go for dinner then we could do more food and just a glass or two of wine. Afterward, we went to the shop just outside the restaurant to find the wines we liked(we took pictures of the labels so we wouldn't forget). They have a decent beer selection, which I totally appreciate. My friend really enjoyed the wine options here! It's more wine centric obviously than beer. I had the Baramoondi (fish) for dinner. It was light and delicious. It was served with creamed potatoes and asparagus. Very nicely done with. Wonderful service to top it off! The Cave is such a gem. The food here is always great, the frequent live music is always a vibe, the severs are always friendly, and the large selection of wine is always refreshing. The Cave is a good place to go to if you have friends in town. They have a large selection that there is bound to be something for everyone in your party. Its also a good place to bring a date or even just hang out. The live music is not too loud that you can't hear each other, but it is loud enough that you can enjoy it. Fun night, last night ! We went to celebrate my dear friend's birthday. Rachel was such a great server. Super friendly and she would often come and check in. We were there from like 5 pm to past 9pm. Such a great place. They had live music. It does get a bit loud as it is a small space but it's ok. It's part of the experience. The place is made to look like a cave. People get wine cards to go to the machines around the spot and get their wine fill. We purchased a bottle as we just wanted to sit and enjoy our food. We shared a few things - meat pizza, pasta in a white sauce (added grilled chicken) and fries with buffalo sauce/ blue cheese. We got the birthday gal a pecan cheese cake. There's no comp for this as other places and we didn't expect it . Just letting others know. The food was great. As everything now, a bit pricey but worth it for a celebration. My girl deserves it and we wanted to treat her. I don't think it was terribly expensive but something I would only do on special occasions. The Cave was packed and it had a nice vibe yesterday. We all had a blast. I took a few pics but unfortunately, we had dug in already. We couldn't resist. If you want a different experience, romantic/cool place for a celebration- check out The Cave. The exterior looks like a plain building but once inside it's cool. I believe it's locally owned too as the owner was there greeting people. He was also helping to serve food. Went to The Cave for the first time for a wine and cheese pairing. The hosts, Fritz and Bryan were amazing and paired everything just right. The mushroom cheese and Ampelos Pinot Noir were my favorite. The conversation, setting, and atmosphere was great. Afterward, we got a little bite to eat and their mushroom pizza - MUST HAVE, along with their mushrooms. Only recommendation I have is to have soft bread. Other than that - I'll be back :) read more

First off, the food was incredible. A crème brûlée for dessert was great, perfectly seared on the top and not to mention the biscuits and gravy with just the right amount of gravy and the potatoes were perfectly seasoned to where you don't need any ketchup or any other salts or seasonings. The service of the waitress was incredible. She kept checking on us to make sure we were well taken care of, and we didn't need anything else. Great price for bottomless mimosas and she kept bringing more and more and more. It was perfect. What a beautiful atmosphere to eat a nice Easter brunch and it was nice and quiet not too loud so we can hear everyone talking and really get to spend time with the family. I would definitely recommend this place for a brunch. I will be going back there for wine tasting soon too. read more

Good food & wines, lousy service. My husband and I decided to try this place for the 1st time as we'd heard good things about it. Regretfully, we probably won't return. The wine & menu selections were varied & the food was very good - when it finally arrived. We shared their Cave salad and my husband had their seared halibut special while I had the beef tournadoes duo. We had arrived just after 6:00 pm & while it took a while for the salad to come out around 6:40 pm, we weren't served our entrees until 8:00 pm! No one even said anything to us about the very slow service. We had to catch the attention of our waitress to ask her what the delay was. She said they were short a chef, that their 1 chef was also training 3 new chefs, and also the restaurant was very crowded. I looked around and saw all the tables were not even filled, but bottom line, none of that should be the customer's problem. Regardless, we waited still another 45 MINUTES after we'd finished the salad! My husband wanted to leave at 7:30 but I urged him to give it a little more time for our food to arrive. We both agreed if it hadn't arrived by 8 PM we would leave and just as we were starting to put our coats on, the food finally arrived. Another negative about the "cave" at least for us.... while at first it seems kinda cool when you walk into a room that's indeed like a cave with rounded edges and stuccoed walls, it's EXTREMELY loud as the sound reverberates and bounces off the curved ceiling & walls and cement floor. Forget having a convo with anyone even right at your table unless you want to shout back & forth to each other. So, although the food ended up being very good, admittedly by then we weren't feeling it anymore. Afterwards, as we were leaving out the door, the chef did apologize for the slow service, again telling us how they hadn't been prepared for the restaurant to be as crowded as it was (?? it was Sat night) & about training 3 new chefs. The exchange was pleasant and all but because prompt and attentive service is an important part of our dining out experience, we'll go elsewhere. Very disappointed. read more

Must go! The cave is the number one place to enjoy food and wine simultaneously in Ventura. Don't let the bland exterior for you, this industrial location hides the most unique mysterious cave like Wine bar experience. I've encountered nothing else like it in the area. I've been here a few times now, with my mom, colleagues, and even on a date. I love that it's affordable and delicious, plus had a nice ambiance- a triple threat and rarity in today's world. So many ways you can go about enjoying this restaurant/retail shop. I've shopped bottles in the wine shop, and then enjoyed them during dinner at the adjacent restaurant for a $10 corkage fee. I have also chosen wine off of their list, and usually they have discounts if you choose their prefix option. You can even grab an empty glass and fill up your own cup using there, pay-as-you-go Wine fountains, which are scattered throughout . There's a special every day, and live music on the weekends. I definitely recommend the cave in Ventura. The food is just so good! I've had the Seared Aji with mashed potatoes and vegetables and the salmon, shrimp platter. I am always impressed by the aesthetic presentation of the dish, and the flavor. Nothing is over salted, there's always plenty of color on your plate and the food is just tasty. Resos are only for 6 or more but three of us on a Wednesday evening had no problem getting seated. First off, it's really nice to see a business full of happy employees. We felt like family almost immediately. Our server (Megan) was stellar. She helped us with all the different ways to get wine (1-sample from over 40 options at their automatic self serve dispensary 2) order by the glass 3) order a bottle 4) get a bottle from their extensive wine shop at the front of the establishment and pay a $15 corkage fee). Each method was quite economical but the tasting dispensory can add up if your not careful. Megan next explained the weeknight special menu for two. We opted to order from the main menu. We shared an app-asian lettuce wraps-tasty and not too filling to start things off. My friend got the cave salad--it was full of tasty items and big enough to feed several farm animals. My wife got the tomato tower--their version of caprese--nice moist mozzarella. I tried the mushroom soup which was filled with several types of delicious mushrooms. The entrees: beautiful presentation, more than ample portions and all were excellent. The bacon wrapped tenderloin melted in your mouth. The Scallops were cooked perfectly and were accompanied by pasta in a delicious pesto sauce. My chicken marsala was excellent. The sauce was a tasty non salty marsala and filled with mushroom slices. It was so good that I considered licking the plate but instead opted to save some for the next day. At Megan's reco we shared a lemon semifredo for dessert which was also very good. Finally a glass of port to top it off. The prices are very good for the quality and quantity. And a nice guitarist was playing for us throughout the evening. Excellent evening in every way. This unassuming building held quite a surprise with the cool, cavelike interior and adjacent wine shop. Went with a couple friends and enjoyed nice conversation with the husband and wife owners, and scored a great table on a Saturday night with no advance reservations. We enjoyed an excellent bottle of wine that our friendly server Sarah recommended based on our preference of a full body red. She came by a few times very patiently asked if we wanted to order appetizers, and drinks...we never looked at our menus , Sarah took her time and said," that's okay I'll come back."
