Waterside Restaurant is an absolute gem in Channel Islands Harbor! Every dish we tried was fantastic. For starters, we had fresh seared ahi tuna, delicious crab cakes, perfectly battered shrimp, and crispy calamari served with a marinara sauce that had just the right amount of spice. Our table enjoyed the chicken piccata, lobster ravioli, and Wagyu burger, and every entrée was excellent. The blackberry margaritas were a standout and worth the visit alone! Dessert was the perfect finish with tiramisu, rich chocolate cake, and incredible churro waffles topped with caramel cream sauce, walnuts, and strawberries. Chef's kiss to all three. The service was outstanding, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between casual and upscale, with great outdoor seating and harbor views. The packed bar area made it clear this is a local favorite. Highly recommend Waterside whenever you're in the Oxnard/Channel Islands area. We will definitely be back! read more

I really hate giving a 1 star review but today was beyond disappointing and extremely frustrating we sat on the patio because it was so beautiful out and you can't beat the view! There were only a couple other tables seated as well and two servers... our server was very nice but seemed out of sorts. We waited 40 minutes for our food! An order of grilled salmon and an arugula salad with chicken. The salmon was a fraction of the size of what I've had here in the past and completely overcooked and the chicken in the salad tasted like cardboard (was flattened and overcooked). I ended up sending the salmon back and asked to just take it off the bill. We ate the salad which was delicious minus the cardboard chicken. Definitely Not worth $18 I'm sorry but this restaurant is so inconsistent (see my previous reviews) and for the "upscale" type of dining? With the high prices? It really is unacceptable. We've received crap service when it's busy and when it's not. We asked for our check and he never brought it out (same with the lemon I requested when he served our waters) we already had been waiting a long time for our food so not even being able to get our check to pay? We were not happy. After another 15 minutes we got up to leave and I went up to the bar area to pay and our server still hadn't gotten our check ready so I waited there for another 5 minutes or so. Not sure what the problem was? They weren't busy. Maybe one table seated inside? In the future? We will not be dining here anymore. And I have yet to receive any acknowledgment on my past reviews so clearly the business owner and/or management doesn't care. I do not recommend coming here! Came here for Valentine's Day dinner and had such a great experience. We made reservations for a triple date with my siblings and all our spouses, and everything went so smoothly. Parking was super easy with plenty of spaces, which was a huge plus. The restaurant is right next to the water and had such chic, romantic vibes--perfect for a special occasion. It was a fixed menu, but we were still able to choose our entrees. We started with a salad and lobster bisque, which was my first time trying it, and it was so good. For my entrée, I got the braised short rib and it was AMAZING--super juicy and full of flavor. I also ordered an espresso martini, which was delicious. I added a photo of our drinks because they were all so good. Dessert was a choice between tiramisu and cheesecake, and both were delicious. We spent a few hours at the Camarillo Outlets and wanted to try something new before heading home. This was one of the choices. Kinda wishing we went a different way on this. We sat outside, which was the best choice because there was a singer and, while she was really good, her amps went up to 11. She was the highlight. I ordered the French onion soup and it was ok. Average. We shared the Dippin Trio, which was ok. A little above average. The dips were tasty and there was enough pita. However, LeeAnn got the eggs Benedict and it was subpar, at best. The eggs were overcooked, which to me is a crime when you order a benny. The point of a benny is the mix of runny yolk and hollendaise sauce. Speaking of the hollendaise, it tasted like it was from a package. The taste was far too sweet and a bit stale...and no lemon to speak of. Just not good. Plus, there was a piece of eggshell under the first egg. Not sure if there was more as that was the first and last bite taken. The service was good. They were kind enough to take the Benedict off the bill, but made it sound like it was a special favor. That's mediocre service as far as I'm concerned. Needless to say, we've no need to go back. The happy hour had a couple of drinks, best deal, a 5$ draft modelo. There weren't any drinks I liked on the HH menu so I went for a sangria. Idk what was it in but it tasted terrible. The menu said it had St. Germain and I think orange vodka but it didn't taste like it had either of those. Seemed like mostly red wine... idk. And we decided to have "garlic" fries and charcuterie for one. I'll attach a picture of the charcuterie. I figure this may not be something popular to order but it was like something I made last minute with what I had in the fridge at home... there were spider webs in the grapes (which I understand is normal) But wash them off. My wife and I were staying at a local hotel, and Waterside was recommended for its food and view of the marina. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and asked about our seating preference. We elected to sit outside, and even though the sun was still a bit intense in the early evening, the Waterside staff kindly adjusted our umbrella to help us enjoy the sunshine and outdoors. The chicken piccata was rubbery and barely edible. How do mess up chicken breast? Dimmer lighting would be nice as well. Too bright with those industrial style lights. Don't sleep on this cozy spot in the Oxnard Harbor. Waterside offers great views of the water, live music, good pours, good food, and good people. Chorizo Chilaquiles, are a classic Mexican dish! As the menu offers a good selection of American food, I was shocked at the flavor of the dish! These Chilaquiles are made with hand fried tortilla chips simmered in a flavorful sauce, typically salsa verde (green) or salsa roja (red), and topped with chorizo, fried eggs, avocado and cheese. Its a warm-hearty dish. The Avocado Toast, and Egg-cellent Omelette looked delicious! My friends enjoyed their brunch with Bottomless Mimosas! The indoor patio is a nice spot to seek shelter from the sun with privacy for an intimate conversation. If you have some coverage from the sun, then the outdoor patio is my preference, listening to music and enjoying the views. The restaurant is a big place and the girls are multitasking a lot. You definitely need to have some patience and time to enjoy your meal. We have to remember that good things take time. The wait staff are always charming and sweet. I always enjoy their hospitality! What I find truly disgusting about this place are all the fake plants. Fake plants in restaurants can attract and harbor rodents, primarily by providing shelter, hiding spots, and nesting materials, rather than food. While artificial plants are not edible, they can become a problem in a restaurant environment for several reasons: it provides nesting areas for rodents, accumulation of dust and debris and rodents do not use a rest room. They use the artificial plants. Walk around the side of the building and you'll see rodent traps about 10' apart. A lot of them. Besides the food being mediocre, this place is very unappealing. To our pleasant surprise, there was a live band playing--The Goleta Sound--and they definitely made the evening special. We opted to sit outside, and even though it was chilly, the heaters provided just enough warmth, allowing us to enjoy the music comfortably. Our server was patient and friendly, even though it took some time for us to decide on drinks. Once we settled in, it took a little longer to choose our meals, as we were busy catching up and socializing, but our waitress was exceptionally accommodating throughout. For the table, everyone except my partner ordered the burger with fries, which was delicious--cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My partner chose the pork chop, which was seasoned well and juicy, making for a satisfying meal. Overall, a fantastic night with good food, great live music, and attentive service. Overall 3.5, so I rounded up to 4 stars. The restaurants is beautiful. Love the remodel. Such a great date night spot right by the water. Place does have an older crowd but that is no problem as I am chill. Our server Savannah was so attentive and definitely welcoming. Now the food . I got their calm chowder to start . I ate it all but I wouldn't say it was great . To me it lacked a more milky appearance. Flavor wise , it was not amazing as well. I also got a burger and I really enjoyed it! It came with fries. Absolutely incredible experience! This restaurant is a perfect combination of great food, beautiful atmosphere, and amazing vibes. First time coming here with friends who decided to try it out. I ordered from the Specials Menu: the pistachio crusted sandab served with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The mashed potato did not taste like real potatoes. The sauce on the fish was a sweet and sour- like reminded me of frozen dinner sweet and sour chicken. Oxnard desperately needs better food options. The location is fantastic, so is the service and ambience. We normally go here for breakfast, which is their best in our opinion. Today, two of us chose to share their ceviche and salmon salad. We were quite disappointed that their ceviche was exclusively squid, no flaky white fish nor shrimp, just squid, tomatoes and onions. Some of the squid pieces were quite chewy, not appetizing at all. The salmon salad was pretty weak. The salmon piece was small, it tasted fishy, it sat on top of romaine lettuce, a few cucumbers, and a few other pieces of vegetable. Would not recommend this dish either. The Bloody Mary was fantastic. The omelette, eaten by another one in our party, was good. He was happy with it. The buffet was supposed to be until 4 but after 2:45 they stopped replenishing a good portion of items on the Buffett. Booked a reservation here after seeing their delicious menu on Instagram for Father's Day weekend. First time here and we didn't get to see the inside of the restaurant as we were seated out in the patio. Initially, we were seated at a table without any umbrellas when everyone else was sitting under one. We kindly asked to move to another table with an umbrella, so no problem there. Nice view of the harbor with a relaxing vibe. The waitresses were nice, especially our waitress, Sarah. She was very welcoming and attentive the entire time. Thank you. Food - as excited as we were to try out their appealing menu, the food we received were disappointing especially for the prices. The Maryland crab cake didn't remind us of an actual Maryland crab cake at all (we're from there), but it was very tasty. The Surf & Turf - spinach and rice were great, Salmon was very well cooked with a delicious sauce, however, the lambchop was very very dry. The Mahi dish that I ordered had flavors, but was also very dry. The kids chicken strips with fries was a great portion size. The food was ok but definitely late stage restaurant that relies on tourism and filled seats. The burger was ok and the fries seemed to be basic crinkle fries for a hefty $30 per burger. You can eat a wider variety of better quality food elsewhere in the neighborhood for a lot less than what our bill came out to. We got two burgers and one mini crab cake plus drinks for 3 for about $125. Nice experience on a chilly night but I understand why not a ton of locals go here. The food was okay, not mind-blowing but satisfying. The onion rings were crisp and well-seasoned, the fish and chips had a nice crunch though the fish could have used a bit more flavor, and the chicken paillard was tender and light. Switcherrue seating. They promised us an indoor reservation and others. We were on time. The wait went from 5-10 minutes, to 30 min after 5 minutes. I had to twist their arm to even take an appetizer order. They forced us outside in the cold promising us a table after our appetizers and first round of drinks. It never happened. Had to twist their arm for a second heater despite the patio being like Siberia. I felt lied to and manipulated and the lack of forthrightness soured the experience...if u want a bar experience take the risk... if u are celebrating a special event and want finer dining, go to Cafe Zack, they understand what a "reservation" is.
