i stumbled upon the cellar and ended up sitting outside (super inviting.....feels like europe). some of the appetizers i got to try were (i) mini ceasar salad (ii) an amazing buttery cheese served w/honey + nuts and (iiI) hummus . great/hospitable/knowledgeable staff especially vince....who helped me make my wine/appetizer selections. all the above was enjoyed while sipping some delicious pinot noir......and watching a beautiful sunset. read more

Fantastic restaurant. Went on Sunday when they have dinner specials and live Jazz music. Food was fantastic... we split 2 salads and the short ribs. Salads had the perfect amount of dressing and were a very healthy, filling option. Great wine deals on Sun. Came here the other night with a group of friends. We split a couple bottles of wine and had some beers; I must say the selection of both was great. Sometimes wine bars dont have the best selection of beer, but when I wanted to switch and have a beer I was pleasantly surprised. Next time ill get some food there too read more

We have visited 'The Cellar' a couple of times during the day. While not inexpensive, it's worth paying for the quality. The french baguette sandwiches are to die for and the cheese plates are excellent. If you can get a seat on the patio in the sunshine, watching the world go by while drinking wine, it can't get better than that! read more

My review is all about cheese. I had a groupon for cheese at this place. I passed by a dozen times and it never occurred to me that the place might be good. As it turns out, they have a very sophisticated and delicious selection. Now, if you are from SF or Paris, you will think it is limited. But, if you are from the OC, you have just found a new place to get your cheeses for your next romantic wine and cheese plate by the fireplace. And, as it turns out, the folks that work there know what they are talking about. They had great suggestions. The little sauces, nuts, etc. that they sell are complimentary. I did find that there cheese plates were not as good of a deal, for the money or the variety, then get your own personally selected cheese from their fridge. read more

Came here a couple weeks ago for the first time. Very cool vibe. Loved the live music. The food overall was delicious and this place is particularly high on my list of places I'll looking forward to visiting again. We shared two items from the specials that day (duck confit salad and a honey lavender salmon with risotto). We also shared the ice cream cookie dessert. As I said, overall the food was delicious, but it was also very rich and heavy. And the duck as well as the cookie were overseasoned (our guess is that the chef is a smoker). Hopefully that isn't an issue that affects the entire menu, but I look forward to finding out. read more

This place is outstanding. My date and our friends were seated at the piano...literally AT the piano, as in it was the table. And it was being played by a talented and understated musician all night. Talk about an experience. The cheese sampler was out of this world. So were the salads that the ladies ordered. Even the burgers (always interesting to test a menu by ordering the most pedestrian thing you can find on it. Ha!) were among the best I've ever had anywhere in the country. The wine list is quite extensive and the wine bar is out of this world. This place was crowded on a Friday night (as you'd expect) - like REAL crowded. Get here early or be prepared for quite a wait. Such a fun experience. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Our waiter suggested the perfect drinks, food, and dessert. The restaurant is located downstairs and it totally has the perfect ambiance. I recommend the meal that comes for two people. It was the perfect portion for a male and female and the filet was cooked to perfection! The soufflé (chocolate raspberry) takes 20 minutes to prepare so put that order in right when you get your food. read more

The owners of this establishment are obviously confusing their little wine bar for the Hollywood bowl. I've been to this place more than once and if you want to talk to the person you're with forget it. They hire these wannabe rockstars who take over the room and can care less about any type of socializing, it becomes all about the them and their future fame so they make sure to play loud enough so everyone is forced to listen regardless of whether or not they are any good and 99% of the time they are awful. Imagine bad bar music cranked up to 11 that's this place. Please it's nice to have a little subtle music in the background for atmosphere not some crapy musician who thinks he's the greatest which they all do by the way trying to become famous. If you want a concert go here or to the staples center if you want to talk and get to know someone for sure go somewhere else. It's a wine bar for God sakes!!! read more

When it comes to Brunch, I like good food(not great food that would cost me an arm and a leg), a nice place ( not a super cozy place that has long line for hours before get a table, where you almost sit on some next table person's lap), a chill atmosphere(I have enough craziness to my day as it is, i want the brunch experience to me as less low key as possible), and a restaurant, that doesnt hush you away after 2 hours because they need the table for next group. I know it may sound like a backhanded compliment, but thats just the way I like my favorite brunch spots, and Cellar, fits the bill and some more! We made plans to meet our friend from San Diego for brunch here. Knowing she had other plans after, we wanted some place, where there wont be a long line, but still the food and drinks would be memorable, so this place came with strong recommendation from one of our brunch queen of a friend! Sure enoug, when I came on this specific sunday, parking was super easy. the place was busy but not super duper crazy busy where we had to wait. There were enough tables for us to go choose from. We sat at the high table - 5 of us. The waiter was polite and friendly, and recommended a magnum champs for $60, which was a good deal, and delicious. The menu itself was brief but pleasant, and covered what you would expect out of a brunch menu. I went with the skillet which was delicious. My friend ordered the breakfast burger. I also got a coffee cake ($5) which was one of the best coffee cakes I ever had! So moist, and decadent. Our friend Andrea loves their lavendar latte, so I got to taste that as well, and it was everything I hoped it will be and some more! All in all, I think cellar is a winner. It was priced perfect. I just hope we keep it a secret, so they wont be bustling with a crowd where we have to get brunch reservations! But if they do, I am sure i will call in to reserve a table, because its worth it! read more

I love everything about the cellar. I've been getting my typical Cabernet fix here ( a little bit of Hope or Rock and Vine) and I can not tell you how badly San Clemente needed a place like this. Before this place came into business, you would be stuck with the same ol' rag tag dive bars that were swarmed by marines. Now, the locals finally have a place that is upscale, fancy, good Blues (finally like Missy) and a warm atmosphere, not to mention that the service from the servers like Jessica or the manager, Vince, will make your experience that much more pleasurable. read more
