A really nice and convenient--albeit small--grocery store not far from the San Onofre State Beach camping areas. They have a large selection of beer and wine, plus some fresh produce, basic supplies, tortillas, and lots of yummy homemade salsas (the medium salsa verde is quite good). They even have a deli in the back that serves lots of Mexican-style meats and takeaway items. I came by to buy tomatoes, salsa, corn tortillas, and cilantro to take down to my camping site on the July 4th weekend. Everything was really fresh and yummy! Primos is actually a small mexican market with a working kitchen, lots of food to go. There is no seating area. The service was quick and friendly . I tried the adobado tacos and a fish taco. The tacos are street size, small, but they pack a lot of flavor. The adobado pork was a little salty for my taste. The fish taco was delicious. The cream sauce they use is full of flavor. Delicious Fat Breakfast Burrito! What a hit! Burritos stuffed with egg, bacon, ham, and cheese. These burritos were a hit for my brunch boat cruise w girlfriends. Not knowing how big the burritos would be, I over purchased, as I ended up cutting these burritos into halves or thirds. Everyone loved them! *Although Primo opens at seven, I found that they are not ready to prepare, freshly made orders until 8:00AM. Because I was ordering five burritos, I prepaid at 7:45 and then came back to pick up my order at 8:15. I will definitely come back and try out more of their menu. read more

This Mexican market is one of my favorite spots in Orange County because of the tacos. The taco selection is massive and they are so cheap for the quality. On Tuesdays and Fridays the tacos are 69 cents a piece, which is awesome. The service is normal for a small market and the place is small, but you can tell everything is super authentic. They have home made guacamole that you can buy , fresh ceviche, birrias, carne asada, carnitas, tri-tip, you name it, they have it. What surprised me is that they even have Julian pies here ! So , you dont have to drive all the way down to Julian, you can just grab the pies here and enjoy! I purchased one tonight, couldn't resist. I also purchased their carne asada burrito, with rice, beans, cilantro, onions, cabbage all wrapped in a flower tortilla and i was in heaven! $11.99 you could cut in half and eat for 2 meals. Its a local favorite among surfers, non-surfers, and every walk of life in San Clemente. Parking can be tricky so be mindful of the 20min parking spots. It's been over a year since I've been back to Primo (I used to work a full time job and by the time it was Tuesday or Friday Tacos, I wouldn't be able to make it in time) But now, things has changed, I now work near by and get off early and finally get that sweet deal of .69 cents per tacos. Yes, you read that correctly. Your eyes are NOT playing games with you, sorry Loki. This is real. As you can see per the picture I've taken, a very sweet deal and especially in this economy. They didn't have Al pastor when I got there at 10:50AM, I know it's early in the day but no lines which is a plus, sometimes if you come later in the day, that line goes out the door. Ordered 20 tacos, 10 carne asada and 10 birria tacos, everything on it and a bag of fried pork skin total came around $21. $14 for the tacos and $7 for the bag of pork skin. Not too shabby, they do ask if you want a bag, its 10 cents so be aware, I had to get one since I got a lot of tacos but definitely bringing my own bags next time. Will I come back? Absolutely freaking yes! They have desserts too and even have Juliene pie too! These tacos looks small but let me tell you something, the lady that were making the tacos, she PACKED those tacos up! It's authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. My go-to right now is their California Burrito. They usually have grab-&-go burritos, quesadillas, and tomales--Convenient in a rush or when the line is out the door. I wish their standard burritos and tacos had more ingredients in them, they're a little over-simple. I wish they had a salsa bar or gave you more than just two small salsa containers. Wow, what an amazing little place. My wife and I walked across the street from San Clemente State Park for refreshments and found an amazing Mexican Cocina in a little store. We ordered the el pastor taco's meal to share, with beans and rice. Everything was super authentic and price was great. We took it back across the street (highway 5) and had the most amazing lunch on a picnic table overlooking the ocean..... They have freshly made corn tortillas that are tender and oh so tasty. They use 2 per taco and fill with enough meats/filling that one can easily take apart and end up with two tacos! I found out about this place on TikTok and was in luck because I was in town on a Tuesday. They have a taco Tuesday special where all tacos are only $0.69. The line was out the door when I visited, and I waited a total of 45 minutes. You wait in line, place your order at the counter in the back, and pay up front. I ordered 8 Carne Asada tacos, 4 Al Pastor, tacos, and 4 Birria tacos. You simply can't beat the price, but the saying remains true - you get what you pay for. These tacos are three star at best. They come with a double corn tortilla, your choice of meat, cilantro, and onions, the only sauce available is a green salsa verde. My favorite was the Carne Asada tacos as they were the most juicy. The Birria tacos were dry AF and the Al Pastor tacos were mushy in texture and also salty AF. This place also serves BBQ and the gentleman working behind the BBQ meat counter were serving samples of the BBQ meats for those waiting in line, which I thought was a nice touch. All employees were accommodating and super nice. We were given samples of food and given explanations of the food that was being sold. They sell cooked tri tip, and brisket that was delicious and is sold by the pound or you can have tacos with the beef. Their chicken wings were not as good as the beef although they have a nice variety of wings. Maybe just a tad overcooked. They also have a ceviche bar with about three different types of ceviche. I think they should sell one type that could be mild. I would have bought some had they not all been so spicy. They have special tacos that are a big seller. No, but the quality of ingredients is still there, and they pack each taco with a considerable amount of meat. The kicker here is that these tacos are 69¢/piece on Tuesdays AND Fridays, so the value for what you receive is fantastic. My go to will be the cabeza, adobada, and chicharron tacos. Woke up early on Super Bowl Sunday and thought, well I don't really care about the Super Bowl so let's go out and get the wife and me a couple kick ass breakfast burritos! Headed out to Primos in San Clemente. First interesting thing was that when I tried to order the breakfast burritos the gal didn't seem to understand me. Maybe I was saying it weird, but I didn't think there was a language issue, just not communicating. Another person asked what I wanted. I asked for a bacon and a sausage and he replied that they only had bacon. So, I asked if I could get a chorizo one instead. He said sure. I shopped around as I waited for my burritos. Ended up picking up some tortilla chips and some marinated pollo asada to cook later and have chicken nachos. I'll review those separately. Not long after I was handed two massive, heavy burritos in bags. Just like the last times I was surprised at their heft. I checked out and the very nice cashier asked if i was going to watch the Super Bowl and I said, "for the ads". I asked if she was going to watch and she said she was from San Fran, so rooting for the 49ers. Went on my way to get home and enjoy what I predicted was going to be another great breakfast burrito from Primo. As I was unpacking the contents of my shopping bad, I noticed that one burritos had a $9.99 marking, that's the typical price for a BB at Primo, and then the other bag had $9.99 + $4.99. Huh? That was the chorizo breakfast burrito. Well, that sucks, I was not told there was an up charge and the receipt only had the total listed, so I could not figure out if that charge was added. I would have to assume so. That is the reason for the missing star in my rating. Sat down to enjoy my pricey chorizo breakfast burrito. As with the last couple of times I have had the behemoth breakfast burritos from Primo, I cut it in half as that is enough for breakfast. Almost more than enough and I am a big guy with a big appetite! Love the thought of having the other half the next morning! Take a look at the picture, there was a significant amount of chorizo in there and it was DELICIOUS! Hands down the best chorizo breakfast burrito I have ever eaten. So awesome. Worth the $5 up charge? Maybe, as the default $9.99 is a very good price for a breakfast burrito as typical, current, inflation battered breakfast burritos can be $15 or more at other places.. That part put a damper on it, however when I have ordered chorizo at other breakfast burritos places, it is usually just a smattering of chorizo mixed in with the eggs and other ingredients, this was half of the insides of the burrito. I want to go back and order the chorizo alone as it was so tasty. The wife is not as impressed with the breakfast burritos at Primo, but to be fair she is not a breakfast burrito aficionado like I am. The wife would rather have cinnamon roll waffles with some sugary sweet stuff on top, or something like that. Good for her, she can have that! Go. Eat Well. Beware Of Up Charge. HAVE FUN! read more

My first time eating here. Saw the line around the block and figured it had to be good. The fish tacos, chicken tacos, and Carnitas tacos are fabulous. The rice is light and fluffy with a very nice texture and flavor. They were passing out samples of brisket and I'm looking forward to having that next time. They have specials throughout the week.
