I booked an appointment with Oliver Mok, a truly gifted physical therapist with a doctorate in PT. Oliver rescued me from a life of disability after 2 car accidents in 2003 that left me with an SI joint dysfunction and a piriformis muscle strain. I couldn't stand or sit for very long and was in agony most of the time. Without medication, I was able to recover to near full capacity because of Oliver's expertise and precision with treatment plans. He was equally thoughtful and gentle with my frozen shoulder so I was able to recover much more quickly than others with the same condition. A massage therapist told me I had a tight piriformis muscle but I didn't know exactly how to address it, except with short-term pain relief. Even though I have insurance, I came to Opus Physio because I wanted someone really great, who would work with me one-on-one in every single session. In my initial assessment, Ki quickly zeroed in on the fact that I had a muscle imbalance where my left hip muscles were weaker, causing the piriformis muscle to work too hard and start acting up. Over the next few months, he helped me bring my strength back up on my left side so that it is comparable to the right, and I haven't had any pain since. Ki is super knowledgeable, kind and patient. I felt like I could ask him any question and his explanations were always very thorough. He helped trouble-shoot any other issues that came up as I went through the exercises. When my treatment ended, I felt like I was equipped to maintain the improvements I had made and go on to have a normal workout routine. This ended up having a huge impact during labor when I had many cervical checks. I was able to prep myself to relax and the offer dreaded cervical checks were a breeze for me! The doctors were impressed with my ability to relax and it was entirely thanks to my work with Karah. I previously was tense and coordinating my breathing completely wrong which caused extra stress and pain. I think an appointment or two can do wonders for anyone who dreads gyno exams (paps, iud insertion, cervical checks ect) even if you don't have pelvic floor specific concerns.
