This place used to be legendary but honestly it's gone so far downhill I don't bother anymore, there's nothing here you can't get out of a box labeled Mary Callender. Or Chef Boy-Ar-Dee, for that matter. The sauce is bland, which would be problematic in and of itself but every dish is positively swimming in it, and how a dedicated Italian restaurant manages to consistently cook their pasta to mush is astounding. The service is slow and often rude, the decor is drab and hilariously outdated, and for what you get there isn't even value there. Their cocktail menu is decent and any drink I've had has been well made, but unless you're stopping in for a brief seat at the bar, give this one a miss. read more

Torn between 2 and 3. I'm a fan for nostalgia sake. My family has been going to the Norton, MA location for many years for special occasions and it always comes onto our list of places to go. With that, we made a reservation for 7 adults and 2 kids and off we go. We arrived and we were seated within minutes.. Clean, tidy, friendly service so far... Our server was friendly, down to earth and somewhat overwhelmed. We were somewhat of a haphazard bunch what with a few kids and a few that don't necessarily enjoy eating out when you can order togo and eat at home, but our server kept pace with all that we brought! Now onto the food.... Really good. Appetizers which consisted of Mussels, Salads, Chibatta, definite compliments on these... Then to the meals. The kids stuff came early, awesome!! then 3 Chicken Picata's, a couple of Italian trio selections, a seafood plate. All were tasty... only complaint was they weren't hot, warm in the least... but tasty nonetheless. In all, I'd recommend for the ambiance, we were seated with a sunset water view. Come here often. Wednesday is pizza night. Decided against pizza tonight. Big mistake. Ordered capresi salad from seasonal menu ($7.95). Two tomato slices with one slice of mozzarella on each. Sent back. Unacceptable. Also ordered bruschetta. Came out with minimal basil. ZERO balsamic! Last time ordered (a while ago mind you) was on chateau bread. If I could give this zero, I would. I ordered a margherita pizza which looked delicious, but was completely bland. The crust was under done slightly. The sauce sucked. The cheese wasn't even real mozzarella. This restaurant portrays themselves as Italian, really? Olive Garden, a chain, produces more impressive quality dishes, sad. Next, the side Caesar. First, the croutons were stale .... wretchedly chewy. Next, the dressing tasted spoiled. So I went here for my 2nd time this past weekend with my boyfriend. The Chicken Marsala is to DIE FOR!!!!!!! OH MY SWEET GOODNESS!!!!! I have never had better Chicken Marsala before... EVER! Whatever Marsala wine sauce it is they use is just absolutely amazing. To start the waitress brought us over what looked like half a loaf of bread with sesame seeds on top. That was good, didn't seem Italian but good fresh bread. We ordered the Garlic Bread Bruschetta which was also AMAZING. My boyfriend got the two entrees deal and ordered the Filet with Portobello Mushroom and Shrimp which was great but he wish they offered other vegetable side dishes then what they had (i forget). And of coarse I got the lovely Chicken Marsala... mmm mmm good! OOPS that's Campbell's soup! he-he. I gave this place 3 chances to earn my regular business and they struck out each time. They're very close to my house and the parking lot is always packed. Maybe their brand of slow service, soggy cold food, and high prices (for the quality of food you get) is attractive to some customers. First experience- Ordered take out. A large pizza and a few sandwiches. We were told a half hour, but I picked everything up 25 minutes after ordering and everything was cold. Not room temp. Cold as if it had been taken from the fridge and left on the counter for 20 minutes. We reheated everything at home, which for 6 people took forever. It would have been faster and less work to run to Hannaford, buy my own pizza supplies, and make my own pizza and sandwiches at home. Also would have been 1/3 the price. Very disappointed. Second experience- Ok, so takeout was a no go. Eating in must be better, right!? Nope. Went out with a party of 4. My pasta was mushy, overcooked. My meatballs were cold. The sauce was questionable and only warm on the top. I'm not hard to please with Italian food and surely penne and meatballs is such a basic Italian staple that any Italian restaurant should be able to do better than the frozen meatballs I heat up. I have never felt so betrayed by a pasta dish in my life. My family ordered Chicken Marsala and chicken parm( both were room temp! There's no way they cook this food to order) and a fish dish. I don't remember what it was, as I'm not big on seafood. We also ordered drinks. No one was happy with their cocktail or their meal. The service was on the slower side, and we didn't see our waiter for a long stretch after our food came. Maybe that was his way of avoiding the "this came out cold" problem. After an $85 bill, we all left feeling unsatisfied. We went to Wendy's. I kid you not. We spent $85 on dinner and went to Wendy's to wash the bad taste (and experience) from our mouths. Our cheeseburgers and fries were acceptably warmed. Strike 3- Why go back after 2 bad experiences? We were hungry and had unplanned company. So we ordered out again, this time dinner entrees instead of pizzas and subs. They told me 35 minutes. Nope, I learned my lesson last time and I didn't want cold food again. I left 15 minutes later. The food was ready when I got there and felt warm. I'm not sure how warm it would have been if I showed up 20 minutes later like I was told. Finally! A chance to try their food warm. And... We were all disappointed again. Our company politely said their meals were fine. I didn't believe them. They didn't eat most of their meals and said they'd bring the leftovers home. I'm not going to even bother to list what we ordered here because by this point it doesn't even matter. Unless there's a secret menu that I don't know about, I'm not sure how this place even stays in business, never mind fills its lot. read more

I went here on a recent weekday night with my book club (8 diners). The restaurant, despite a good number of guests, was very quiet, which was good for book discussion. However, service was quite slow. Our waitress brought bread (like white bread with sesame seeds -- not real Italian bread at all), then came back for drink orders, then 10 min later back with drinks. About 15 min later she took our dinner orders, and then arrived back with 1 of the salads ordered by the table. About 5 min later the other salads arrived. I found this to be strange -- why not bring out all the salads at once? I've been to the Nocera's in Stoughton, which is owned by the same group, so I know to expect a loose, very Americanized interpretation of Italian food. I got the veal saltimboca, which had a nice sauce and lots of tasty mushrooms, but the veal was overcooked. I had the toasted ravioli on the side, which is their claim to fame. My advice -- skip them. The ricotta inside the ravioli was crumbly, as if they had gotten cold before they reached my plate. The other people in my book group gave mixed reviews for their food. Those who had gotten seafood dishes seemed pleased. Those who had gotten the eggplant lasagna (a special) were disappointed. There's plenty of better places for Italian food -- go to them instead. read more

The calamari was perfect, as was the fish and chips. Our waitress was awful, but the manager really saved the day. Our waitress never told us her name, was so late getting our appetizer that we thought we'd starve to death before the entree arrived. And when we thought we'd have to find our food ourselves, the manager arrived with our food, asked if wanted refills on our drinks and smiled. When we mentioned that she ( the manager) should have waited on us from the start, she just smiled and was friendly and polite. This really impressed me because you could almost tell that she was hiding her anger at our waitress--the smile was a bit too plastered. All in all, the food was great, the waitress was awful but the manager really stepped up to the plate and saved the day. I will go back. read more

I used to come here as a kid with my family and thought it was great. That's when I didn't know what good food was. Got a reservation for two here a few weeks ago and did not have the best experience. Hostess must have mis planned because she tried to push us off to the empty bar area when we were told me had to wait for a table even though we had a reservation. It didn't bother me to wait for a normal table but it seemed to bother her. We got seated quickly in a nice corner booth overlooking the lake and pretty far away from the huge loud dining room. It was nice until a family sat down right next to us and we could hear their entire conversation and vice versa. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed but very pleasant and friendly. We ordered a drink and dinner and with it being so busy we expected to wait a little while for dinner which we totally were okay with, since I believe dining out should be an experience rather than feel rushed. I'm not kidding you when I say our food came out in less than 5 minutes of us ordering. 5 MINUTES. The waitress even apologized. What does this tell me? The food is not cooked to order (definitely didn't taste that way either) and that my food was just sitting under a heat lamp waiting to be ordered. Now they were decent sized portions but the food was pre packaged and definitely just warmed up. So much for "authentic" Italian food. The chicken parm was a piece of cutlet with a fake, individually packaged piece of disgusting looking cheese half melted on top. Gag. The only pros: House white wine was delicious and well priced Bread is delicious Other than that... Nothing... I don't understand what the draw to this place is. Clearly whatever they are doing, aka bad prepackaged food and loud, close casual dining, is working for them. I will definitely not be spending my money at Chateau again. read more

We frequent this restaurant approximately once a week. Sometimes more. This night we just felt like ordering in. I ordered a pepper and onion pizza that was ok. I ordered the haddock St Germaine which was horrible. Mind you I always get this dish. I don't order any other. The sauce is supposed be a white wine Swiss cheese deal. Usually, well let's just say it, "a party in my mouth". This time 100 percent not! It was like a bunch of butter was melted and tossed on the fish. No creamy sauce to speak of. No flavor. Pretty much craptastic. I was supposed to get broccoli and mashed with it. I didn't get my broccoli. We didn't get any bread. It just sucked. The have an AMAZING brunch and its only 15.00. They have an omelete station, belgian waffles, french toast, bacon, sausage and so much more! Also, dinner is really good and decently priced. I dont know what "real" italian bread is but the bread w/ sesame seeds is what usually comes with dinner at italian restaurants. The toasted raviolis are great and the seafood is fresh. We've been here a few times now. I've always thought it to be OK, but my wife liked it so we returned again last night. We started with a "full" order of their "famous" toasted ravioli. One would think that since most tables are for 4 people, the "full order would be for 8 ravioli. But only 6 come with the full order. Small detail, but disappointing. I ordered the chicken francaise. Wife got the Trio 2. One kid got the ravioli with tomato sauce, while the other wanted fettucine alfredo. Each kids meal came with one meatball. The Francaise was disappointing. It appeared like the "chef" filled a bowl with penne, threw some mushrooms and artichokes on it, ladled on some hot chicken broth, squeezed a lemon wedge, then topped it with deep fried chicken breasts. It came out way too fast to be custom prepared. Wife's trio had chicken parmesan, lasagna, and fettucine alfreado. She said the chicken was a patty (a HUGE no-no in my book), the lasagna was hot on the outside and cold in the middle (obviously microwaved). The kid's ravioli included 6 ravioli with tomato sauce on the side. Although there was no kids portion of fettucine alfredo, the server was attentive enough to manage to work it out. The meatball was extremely hard and difficult to cut in half for the kids. the meals come with bread & butter. The bread was ok, although a bit crusty, but not in a good "Italian crusty bread" way. So.. $70 later, and quite disappointed. This felt like Italian fast food. Honestly there are a few better choices for Italian food in the area, or take the short ride to Providence. read more

I have dined here twice now with a client and find their food to be decent, they're not setting the world on fire with their food, but it's hearty and has a home style feel and taste to it. The decor is old in here, you can tell it hasn't been updated since Clinton was in office, but it adds to the charm and gives it a feeling of tradition, like you went to Grandma's house for dinner. The view is great too, overlooking a huge lake, so that's a nice little bonus, if you're sitting in the back room (which seems like a converted porch). The give you some bread to start which is pretty forgettable, nothing special going on with it and they give you butter pats for it, no oils which is the trendy thing to do these days. Once again staying with the theme of "Old School" right? The menu is crazy eclectic. The true fair appears to be Italian and the majority of the dishes are Italian based, but the menu is also loaded with fish & seafood entrees as well. There are literally near one hundred choices on the menu, which can kind of drive me nuts as it makes choosing something that much harder. I opted for a cup of clam chowder to see how theirs stacked up against others I have had. It was OK, a little watery for my tastes and had a lemon flavor to it which I found a little odd. For my entree I had the Italian platter combo which was veal parm, one sausage and one meatball served over spaghetti. It normally comes with penne, but they allowed me to sub it which was cool. The veal parm was 2/3 breading and 1/3 veal. The veal was super thin and didn't really have much flavor. I also found it to be a little chewy. The sausage was pretty good, cooked nicely and still juicy. The real star was the meatball. Oh that meatball was soooooo tasty, I could have eaten 10 of them and taken a bag home for dinner that night. Nice and garlicky with some good flavors throughout and not overcooked. I will likely be back with a regular customer of mine and when I do I will figure out a way to have some more of those meatballs. Maybe a meatball sub, with a double side of meatballs and a meatball pizza for dessert?? read more

We held a bridal shower here and we couldn't have been more happy. The location and venue space were beautiful. The servers were attentive but did not disturb guests during the party. The food was great, we chose to eat their brunch menu which included standard breakfast items and a pasta choice. I've eaten their food at other locations as well and will return! The Norton location has nice views of the lake if you are fortunate enough to get a table by the window. The food is mediocre at best. Since this place is a small chain it seems that they get their ingredients from a central warehouse. They do not use fresh local ingredients. The food is ok but not wow. The service is good and the waitstaff is friendly and they have a full bar. That is about all good that I can say about the Chateau. read more

Having recently moved from the italian section of Providence, I have desperately been craving some carbs smothered in sauce (gravy.) Don't let the french name confuse you, the Chateau is all about Italian comfort food. My husband and I generally order large trays of lasagna, meatballs, and bread for large family events. The food is always perfect, and very tasty. Why waste your time in the kitchen all day when you can just fake it and spend more time on making yourself look fabulous? We visited the restaurant recently, and were seated immediately, even though it was a weekend! What a nice change from our norm of waiting 45+ mins for a table! The bread that they serve comes right now, but the crust is a little hard for my taste. I just rip out the inside and devour the basket. The minestrone soup was my appetizer, and it was quite tasty. My husband ordered the chicken parm, and says that its one of the best places to get it. I ordered the grilled shrimp over florentine rice, and it was delightful. Very kind service. I loved this place! We called ahead on a busy Saturday night. When we walked in they had our table ready for us. The waitress was extremely attentive and made sure to get us a full basket of bread right away. We placed our order and the food was out in record time. The kids didn't want their dessert right away, so she packed it up for us to take home. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes! Perfect for a busy family like ours. I was in the area and saw The Chateau. I love the Chateau in Norwood and Braintree, so I figured this one would be good. Well, I should have just stuck to McDonald's cause this place does not make anything like the other restaurants what so ever. I got the signature chicken parm with toasted ravioli which is usually my go to when going to the other locations. I'm not sure what the hell they did, but it tasted terrible. Not sure what's happening here. When we first started going it was awesome. Against my last experience we decided to give it another try but it was just barely "ok". The portion is way smaller too. Last time we ordered veal park it overflowed the plate. This time the piece was the size of my hand and he got maybe a cup of pasta. Pasta should be generous when you're paying close to 20 bucks for a meal. My potatoes were supposedly real, but they had an "off" taste, like maybe they were mixed with instant. I don't think we'll try again. There are better places closer to us. read more
