Had a great visit to the quaint downtown Cheese Cottage. Staff was SUPER friendly and accommodated our request to sit in the shade. The Charcuterie Board - I think mine was the Seasonal Board - was delicious with choice meats and cheeses. I asked for bacon jam because I never tried and it was DELISH! This was a quick stop-snack-chill for me and Mita but our brief stay was made even more enjoyable by the breeze on the patio/courtyard with some live music drifting over from the adjacent brewery. OMG! This is has got to be one of the best restaurants in Mobile. The wait staff is on top of their game and all the food is so amazing. If I lived in Mobile I would eat there every day! I had the oven roasted Turkey with cranberry slaw sandwich which was to die for. I was so full, but couldn't stop eating it. The Ultimate Four Cheese grilled cheese was also yummy and got a big thumbs up from my girlfriend. Wish they sold the jalapeño jam that was on it, but sadly they do not. Great spot. Went on a Friday night during art walk and a music festival so a crowd was expected. It was indeed crowded, and we were told it would be 45 minutes for any food. I was surprised about a 45 minute wait for a cheese board, but as my friend and I were discussing whether or not we would stay or go (because we were hungry!!), someone from the kitchen came out and said it would probably be more like 20 minutes. The stars had aligned and I'm happy we stayed. Tried the farmstead cheese board and loved it. My favorites were the bit o' blue cow's milk cheese and the ewetopia sheep's milk cheese. The portions of cheese were very large and it came with plenty of accompaniments. Definitely enough for four people to share. I also ordered the sandwich of the day, which was grilled cheese with raclette, ham, and tomato. It was so comforting and I would love to have it again, should it be offered in the future. We took a recommendation from the staff and ordered a bottle of Summer Water rosé. Not something I'd ordinarily order but I really enjoyed it. read more

I visited the Cheese cottage recently for the first time. First of all, this a neat little spot. The owners renovated an old gas station and turned it into a nice, quiet gathering spot. We sat in the covered outdoor section which is perfect for spring weather. There are pull down shades to help block any excessive wind. I really enjoyed this. Cheese cottage offers a limited lunch menu. They offer hand crafted sandwiches and cheese boards. On this visit I only tried a few different cheeses, but I can't wait to get back and try one of their signature sandwiches for lunch. In addition to the wide variety of cheeses, they also have wine and will help you pair it with the perfect cheese board. My favorite cheese is the triple cream brie. I ended up walking out with it and cheese curds to go! (Did I mention they have a store too so you can bring your favorite items home?!) The staff is very friendly. The space is small and so is the parking, but don't let it deter you from making a pit stop you won't regret! read more

Hubby and I went to this quaint little cheese shop for lunch. First of all, the place is charming. There is a covered outdoor patio with plenty of seating plus a couple of tables inside if you prefer. Owner Kristi was behind the counter and eager to help us select something for lunch. We ended up eating the Ploughman's board which includes two cheeses, a summer meat, french baguette slices, fruit, nuts and a delicious muscadine jam. We also shared the Basil Mozzarella sandwich. I am a water drinker and I absolutely adore the fact that in the "Sips" cooler are big bottles of water for your table. My husband had a bottled root beer. We decided to eat inside because of some construction work that was happening outdoors nearby. I am so happy that we did, because we really got to visit with Kristi and her husband! They are a delightful couple and excited about Mobile! The cheeses were incredible. We had one from Sweet Grass Creamery that was divine! Kristi offers a complimentary sampling of six cheeses that I suggest you try. The shop offers a big assortment of jams, honey, crackers and 90 different cheeses! If you are looking for a unique gift, they have gift baskets and boards. This is the perfect place to meet friends for wine and some delicious cheese! Such a great treat in an adorable part of town! I had heard about this place from a friend, and decided to take a date there for my birthday in late May. The building is adorable! Located in the quiet outskirts of downtown (away from all the heavy drinking, hustle and bustle of LoDa), the exterior looks very "Hansel and Gretel." I can sometimes be intimidated going in to a new place, not knowing how to order, where to sit, etc. The guys at The Cheese Cottage completely took away any anxiety I had! I felt like asking them to sit down at our table and eat with us! We stepped inside to order, and I was blown away at both the selection and the knowledge of the employees. They took the time to speak with us about our preferences and what like and didn't like, so we would sure to be happy with our meal. Just amazing service. And then our server, Chris, was one of the highlights of the evening. He was friendly and talkative and funny, and really made our meal even better. One HUGE, amazing, heart-warming highlight for me, was that I added a cheese to the regular Ploughman's board. I didn't sub it out, I strictly added an additional cheese. I was quite comfortable paying the extra cost since Belle Chevre is made by the Gods. After we sat down, Chris came out with another receipt, and let me know he had accidentally overcharge me, so he had reversed the charges! I was just floored. It's so great to find good, honest, local people. And finally, the FOOD. Oh my G, the food. As I mentioned, my date and I ordered the Ploughman's for two. Since we planned to make it our entire meal, and to split it, I considered ordering the large, which serves 4. So glad we stuck with the small! We ate every bit and were fully satiated. The cheeses were amazing, fresh, fragrant, flavorful and perfect. The cold cuts we delicious, just spicy enough, and a perfect match for the cheeses. The accoutrements of nuts, jam, honey, pickles, crackers and sliced bread made this meal phenomenal beyond explanation! In addition to the food, the drinks were also remarkable. Neither of us were drinking that night, so we checked out their cooler. What a neat find!! My date had ginger beer, and I had real honest-to goodness Rose Lemonade. I've never seen that in Mobile. It was so delicious, we each grabbed a bottle for the road when we were leaving. The atmosphere here is just lovely. As I said the building has a very "Hansel and Gretel" look, and the whole vibe of the place seems magical, especially right at sunset. Late May can get pretty stifling hot around Mobile, and they only had two tiny tables on the inside, which I'm not really sure were for sitting. However, the porch seating was covered, romantically lit with fairy lights, etc., and there were several large fans going so it was nicely refreshing to sit outside. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend checking this place out. Mobile needs more cute, kitschy places like this serving fresh, gourmet food at a great place, in a cute location, with super friendly and knowledgeable employees.Chris was a hoot, and was one of the highlights of our meal, ESPECIALLY when he took it upon himself to correct a charging error that I never would have noticed. I believe I have had every item and every one is out of this world! The Mobile Muffaletta Panini is a revelation, the Burrata Caprese Salad is literally one of the best things I have ever consumed and the Poached Pear with Mascarpone cheese will make you weak in the knees. Then, there is their fabulous cheese selection. They source regional artisan cheeses as well as delectable international selections that rotate not too often but often enough so that there is always something incredible that you haven't had before. Finally the staff is exactly what you hope for in a local shop. They are personable and seem to absolutely love what they do. If you come more than a couple of times (which you will) they remember you and greet you with the smile of an old friend. We were next door watching the Army Navy game and decided to get a bite here at halftime. They appeared to have plenty of staff and there was only one table occupied when we got there. It too at least an hour to get our order. They weren't making gumbo from scratch, our orders were simply salads and sandwiches. A couple came in after us, they ate, paid there bill, and left before we ever got our food. We were the only table left. After we got our food, which was okay, our waitress totally abandoned us. We practically had to beg to pay them. That took another half hour. The owner or possibly manager finally checked us out. Maybe it was an off day. Downtown's newest addition is already making headway and becoming a neighborhood and city favorite. We attended the Grand Opening party as well as had lunch the day before. They have a small private parking lot, ample street parking, a covered area patio with some heaters built in, as well as a total open air patio, and two small tables inside. The whole place is done to perfection to remind you of a small little cottage with a wonderfully charming host who wants to share a passion with you. We arrived at the charming little shop for a late lunch as were greeted by the very charming owners who gave us one of their complimentary cheese tastings. The owner walked us through the plan for the 80 or more cheeses she has in stock. The sampling included Gouda, Havarti, Blue Cheese, and no joke one of the best cheddars I have ever had in my life. When you make your first trip, do the tasting, they change constantly and are a charming introduction to the Cheese Cottage! We were so excited, to order lunch, everything looks so good. We opted for the Ploughman's Lunch which came with 2 cheeses, fresh apples and grapes, capicola charcuterie, pecans, some amazing Mississippi sourced honey, baguette, and a hard boiled egg. The owner even let us switch one for a different one as we didn't care for one of them. I also opted to try the Basil Pesto and bacon with smoked mozzarella sandwich. It was hands down one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten in my life. Now, I know what you are thinking, do they serve wine and beer? The Cheese Cottage has been approved to sell alcohol, but they are just waiting for the state to catch up from the recent ice days. I would like to start by saying that the Cheese Cottage is typically one of our favorite downtown restaurants. We are cheese lovers and don't mind the outdoor-only atmosphere. I have met the owner and she is a wonderful person with extensive knowledge about cheese. We would often go out of our way to support this business best we could during COVID takeout only phase. However, the past two times we have been we have had some negative experiences. The first time the food was very good, but the staff was borderline rude to our party about the limited seating situation and made jokes about some of our party members being "jerks" in a private conversation amongst our party. This was extremely embarrassing considering I had chosen to bring my coworkers here for a new experience for them. We sometimes bring customers to this venue so it's concerning that I now have to be worried about how my party will be treated. I work for a manufacturing company so from time to time our party members have on work uniforms and/or boots. The second visit, today, the food was delicious and the staff was back to the friendliness to which I am accustomed. However, there are little signs on every table explaining the rules of the establishment - ones that I would consider basic common courtesy. A majority of the customers I've seen at this venue are downtown office workers or girls lunch/night gatherings. Hardly a wild group. I understand that the next door brewery may draw a rowdy crowd so there may be unwanted visitors using TCC seating. We really enjoy the food and atmosphere at this establishment, but I am beginning to feel like I/we don't fit into their desired customer base and will probably be limiting our visits in the future. I popped into the store expecting to grab some cheese to take home, but ended up staying for a late lunch because everything looked so delicious, I had to try it! Before we ordered, the owner provided a complimentary tasting, where we were able to sample a handful of selections such as Gouda, Havarti, Blue Cheese, and much more! Definitely take the time to do this when you first visit! We ended up ordering the daily special which was the Ploughman's Lunch which came with 2 cheeses, capicola, fresh apples and grapes, hard boiled egg, nuts, and a baguette. It was the perfect portion for 2 people to share. I also decided to try the pimento cheese and Gouda bacon jam toastie. As all of this wasn't enough, the owner let us sample a portion of their cranberry pecan gouda coleslaw. It was definitely different than any coleslaw I've ever tried, but in a great way! As far as beverages go, The Cheese Cottage plans on being able to start the sales of beer and wine hopefully in just a few short days. The owner mentioned they are in the works to offer some of the locals such as Serda's, Haint Blue, and Old Majestic in the store very soon. There are two large tables inside and a large patio outside with plenty of seating. The owner also mentioned that there will be heaters and live music available on the patio for patrons to enjoy. Not in the mood for a cheese and charcuterie sampler board, then try some entree salads, burrata caprese salad, Greek Mediterranean salad or a wonderful Caesar salad, then opt for a toastie like panini; choose from a pimento cheese and Gouda bacon jam, or a Mobile muffuletta, or a basil pesto &bacon mozzarella to name but a few.
