Heaven on Earth! Shopping, dining and drinking local in Downtown Muskegon today! Cheese Lady was the first (surprise) stop. I'd never been but my Mr has brought cheese home (he knows the way to my heart). Today we sampled some infused balsamic vinegars and olive oils. They were having a sale on their bottles, buy 1 get 1 1/2 off. We bought Honey Ginger vinegar and Herbs de Provence olive oil. Then we moved on to the cheese side... there was so much to choose from! The woman who helped us was so friendly and helpful. We were able to sample several different cheeses and ended up with 3 to take home. With the oil, vinegar, cheese and a rustic loaf of sourdough, I MIGHT be able to talk my Mr into staying in tonight! read more

I had no idea how many items were carried at The Cheese Lady! I assumed it was just cheese, but this place is really a gourmet grocery store with everything you need for picnics and fancy cooking. I was beyond impressed with the inventory. The staff were very friendly and offered samples of the cheeses we selected. They had a really great selection of cheese and other local food products. The only downside was that I didn't see prices listed for any of the cheese, so I'm guessing you just have to ask about every single one? Or maybe I missed them listed somewhere? Just be sure to find out so you don't end up with an expensive surprise! read more

The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful and happy to make recommendations based on your taste. They've never steered me wrong. My Dad loves The Cheese Lady in Muskegan. So when his birthday rolls around a trip to buy his favorite cheeses is part of the gift we get him. Recently I moved out of state and wasn't able to be there on his birthday this year, so I called the Cheese Lady to buy a gift card. The lady I spoke with was so helpful and friendly! And she got the gift card in the (snail) mail to him the same day we spoke and it arrived just before his birthday! Since I moved away I noticed that is really hard to find places that will consider mailing a gift card. This is sad because not all people have computer skills that allow them to print an e-gift card and even if for people who do, sometimes it's nicer to get a gift card in the mail. Anyway, some places have put me on hold to see if they can mail a gift card only to come back and say they can't. But not the Cheese Lady! And the cheeses are fantastic! Visiting this place is a whole experience! I highly recommend the Cheese Lady for gifts, special occasions and just because you have a craving for cheese. A big city cheese shop in small town Muskegon! A wide selection of cheeses from all over the world purveyed by the very knowledgeable cheese lady (and her husband). They always have new and interesting cheeses, a nice selection of accompaniments, and a generous hand with the samples. From fresh goat cheese to aged cheddar, from domestic cheddar made by artisan Mennonites in Iowa to Persian feta, this place has cheese to please! This place is really terrific. Cheese? Yes, please. Yup, I'm that typical girl...I love cheese. Its addicting, you know. I made a point of stopping here on my way out of town. I love cheese but I'm never very adventurous because I get worried I might pick up a random cheese that just not that great. (Its happened before. A complete tragedy.) Good thing about this place is that staff will guide you as you pick from their huge selection of cheeses. And they will be more than happy to sample them out for you too. In addition to cheese, this place also sells a huge selection of olive oils, balsamic vinegars, nuts, olives and other yummy eats. I happily walked away with some fancy almonds, some olive oil and some tasty cheeses that were new to me. Overall, a great little shop to stop by when I'm visiting town, especially to stock up on cheeses, nuts and crackers...sure beats the rest stop snacks when driving home! read more

Wow did this place blow me away! I married a Michigan man and have developed a huge appreciation for the locally sourced food. I had visited the farmers market across the street and could not find this MI based Peanut Butter I found last visit. Sure enough The Cheese Lady had my peanut butter as well as a ton of other goodies. We left with PB, jam/jelly, mustard, olive oil, cheeses and more. You cannot visit this area without stopping at The Cheese Lady! read more

Shelley and her staff have great products and customer service, even in the midst of the current lockdown! Orders are taken by phone in a personal and friendly manner. Customers are then texted a bill to resolve on their own. When that part of the process has been completed and you are parked at the store, you simply text your name and car description. Your order is delivered to your car. It is a pleasure to keep supporting these small businesses in Muskegon and the surrounding area. read more

LACK of signage regarding mask policy. I sent a friend over to pick up a couple of items. She had never been to this store before. She was in the store for over 10 minutes and when she went to check out and order cheese it was then that she was rudely chastised for not having a mask. They asked her to put one of theirs on and due to allergies can only wear cotton. SHAME on the young lady that walked her out the door and said you can pay for it outside. This is segregation at its finest. I would not recommend this business to anyone - and as a frequent customer will not shop there again. Make your signs visible and remind customers in a respectful fashion when they enter your store do not treat them as less than and embarrass them in front of other customers. This was SHAMEFUL! read more

I cannot say enough about the Cheese Lady. It is truly a community star. I love going there and listening to the stories behind the cheese. They are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. It transcends a typical stores, it is truly a tourist attraction. I love, love, love their Mango Ginger Stilton, Lemon Stilton, anything Stilton, Irish Cheddar, and Ewephoria. There is so much more I have yet to try. Each trip is a different experience. The customers are equally as friendly, it is like a community gathering place. If you go visit you can also check out their balsamic oils and vinegars they let you try any of them, and they have great flavor combination suggestions. After visiting you will feel absolutely privileged have been there. read more

What keeps me from shopping here often is that every time I go in I feel that the older women working are being prejudice, and judging me by my appearance with their blatant staring and lack of equal customer service. It's truly a shame because the products are great. Also, the younger workers have been very warm and receptive! Such behavior ruins an experience for me as I don't want to support and can't really ignore people with this type of ignorant attitude. read more

The Cheese Lady was kind enough to open on a Sunday late afternoon for a cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting for members of the Michigan Lake to Lake Bed and Breakfast Association, who were in Muskegon for our annual conference. It was delightful to sample several different types of cheeses, but the olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting was a revelation. The oils and vinegars are all in large stainless steel containers. You turn the spigot and put a couple drops into a very small paper cup, then touch it to the tip of your tongue. The amazing differences in taste open up a world of possibilities to enliven your favorite recipes. read more

Ahh what to say about The Cheese Lady. When you crave something beyond the traditional supermarket cheese, when you want to explore the wonderful world of cultured milks, if you're a die-hard turophile, or even if you're just a little curious you must visit. Kathleen and company's service model is dedicated to complete customer satisfaction and they know how intimidating it can be to have so many choices. As such you can sample the vast majority of their cheeses (the only exception being a few pre-packaged varieties) to identify your tastes and loves. And now she has an Olive oil and Balsamic Vinegar bar where you can find high quality oils and vinegars and, of course, taste them to find your favorite. While I no longer live in the West Michigan area, every time I visit I simply must come and spend more money than I had intended picking up as many of the best cheeses as my guilty conscience will allow. Go there, you won't be disappointed. read more

I'm so glad we stopped in here as we passed though Muskegon. The free samples of cheese were amazing, we left with a variety of cheeses from around the world at a reasonable price. We also purchased a coconut vinaigrette and a mushroom olive oil. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because although our cheese slicer was friendly and knowledgeable, the other women in the shop were not. read more

The Cheese Lady compares to any top European cheese shop with the added plus of great wines, pickles, hand crafted pastas and a large selection of flavored vinegars and olive oils. Borrowed Kathleen's Swiss Raclette machine for our New Year Eve party. The guests absolutely loved it. Great fun. I live in Holland MI and you can't get cheese like this locally. They've got real Parmesan Reggiano! Don't forget the TriBeCa bread in the back next to the olive oils. Awesome stuff. read more
