Really neat and unique Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant in the back of a Middle East grocery store!
    Brian W.

Tonight, my wife and I decided to try a new Mediterranean restaurant. We stumbled across Akkadian's Kitchen on Yelp! They are a Mediterranean with heavy Turkish influences.. We walked in and at first , all you see is a really nice Mediterranean/Turkish convenient store with a new pastry area and a to go fast food looking area with 2 or 3 tables. It's be try deceiving. If you walk around the right side of the food/pastry display, you will see the dining room. The room I had a very comfortable ambiance and soft music playing. The very nice woman greeted us immediately and welcomed us to sit anywhere we wanted. The menu had so many delicious appetizers, breakfast items, lunch, kebabs, etc. this food is authentic as well! We ordered the hummus with pastirma, a beef kibbeh, and shared the main dish that had beef kabob, rice, and onion/parsley salad. All the food was EXCELLENT! The hummus was so smooth and the meat was similar to bacon..... mmm mmm! The beef kibbeh was amazing! To me it tasted like a similar falafel but a meaty version. The main dish... wow! The ground beef kabobs were so favorable and tender! The rice was delicious. Everything tasted so fresh! I can't say enough about this establishment! They are a little pricey but you feel like you are getting what you pay for!!! Everything was delicious and we cannot wait to come back! It's one of the best restaurants of their type I have visited in the Chicagoland area!

Small Turkish restaurant inside of a market. The space was nice and many lights inside. There is also an outside patio area to customers. The service was pretty slow but the food was good. The meat was little salty to my liking but juicy and everyone else loved it. The dumplings were yummy. Small but tasted great. We ordered the lentil soup and main dishes. The tea was nice but didn't know the Turkish coffee would come in a tiny cup. I guess I was expecting a regular size cup. I was a little disappointed with the dessert though. I got some macaroons (they were hard as rocks) and not sure if they ran out of the pistachio pavlona because the one the cashier gave me was pink and not green like in the pictures. Overall, the food is great if you're not in a hurry.

Cute place, friendly service. I picked up a to go order. The chicken had good flavor, rice was good. They have a good selection of fresh meat and adorable baked goods. Nice grocery store too.

Absolutely love this place! We keep coming back for the food -- it's that good. At first, we didn't even realize there was a restaurant hidden behind the grocery store, but what a great find. We totally enjoyed the Ali Nazik, Köfte Kebab, and eggplant saksuka -- all incredibly delicious. The staff were warm and welcoming, especially the owner, Vidat. Can't recommend it enough!

Friendly staff, delicious food, and a great atmosphere. My son loved everything! Loved the attached market--such a unique spot. We'll definitely be back.

I heard about Aladdin recently and decided to check it out since I enjoy A Thousand Tales and Zey Zey. Aladdin is actually a small grocery store in a dinky plaza, but if you go to the back-right of the store, you can enter into the restaurant. It's nice and cordoned off, so it feels like a standalone restaurant. The interior design is okay. It's very beige, but it's clean and well-maintained. It feels upscale. Service was friendly. Pricing is definitely on the higher end, as it cost over $60 with tax & tip for just two entrees. In any case, the menus were actually presented to us in the form of tablets. After browsing through, the waitress came over and took our order. We went with beyti kabob ($21.99) since they didn't have iskender kabob yet, and ali nazik ($24.99). The beyti kabob was really tasty. It was kind of like a burrito or wrap with kefta kabob, chopped up into several small pieces, topped with tomato sauce. It was served with yogurt and bulgur. The ali nazik was beef chunks served atop an eggplant/yogurt dip, which was also a delicious dish. Very good food; just a bit pricey.

We came here for dinner tonight and was informed that there was a set menu for $33 due to the Ramadan, we were excited to try it and it turned out great! There were so much food, it included appetizers, soup, main plate of meat and rice, drink, tea, and dessert. They were all very big portion and they all tasted great! The host were super nice and service was fast and attentive. I definitely would recommend reserving for a table though. Overall it was a great tasting menu if you havent try Turkish food before, and it's great value :)

Hidden Turkish grocery store, bakery and restaurant. Definitely a must try. I love everything in this place. Eat the restaurant in the back, enjoy some tea and do some grocery shopping on your way out. Staff were great!

Excellent Turkish Restaurant! Highly recommend the Turkish bagels, Adana Kababs, chicken sheesh kababs. The grocery store is also super clean. The restaurant had a great ambiance perfect for couples and families. The menemen was unique like an egg based tomato sauce dish that I enjoyed with the bagel.

The person behind the counter had a great energetic smile and was super nice. Ever though we were the only ones there, we still had about at 15 minute wait, which was fine. I was really hoping to love the food, but it was just okay for me. I felt like there was a lot of flavor that was lacking in the shawarma and rice. The bowl serving seemed kind of small- especially for being $13. The bowl also came with a small salad inside, but I was not a fan of the pickle that was cut up, but that's just personal preference for me. The falafels were crispy and tasty. And the hummus was good, fresh and homemade, and looked amazing, but while getting close to the bottom of it, I found a tiny blue spec mixed in the hummus. Of course it caught my attention and I removed it to inspect it more. Possible a piece of sponge??? Needless to say, it shouldn't have been in there and it ruined my experience with the hummus.

The restaurant itself is very spacious and extremely clean, with plenty of room to sit and enjoy your meal without feeling crowded. The atmosphere felt relaxed and inviting, but I have to mention it was 8pm when we went. Now for the food it was absolutely delicious. The chicken kabob was incredibly juicy, tender, and full of flavor. It was perfectly grilled and seasoned just right, the kind of dish where every bite is better than the last. You could really taste how fresh everything was. My four year old loved the chicken and the rice was delicious. We also ordered the combination plate, which was fantastic. It came with a great variety of Mediterranean Dave's including the best falafel I have had, seasoned chicken, fresh rice, and all the classic sides that complement the dish so well. It's a great option if you want to try a little bit of everything, and everything on the plate was flavorful and well prepared. What really stood out to me though was the hospitality. The owner's kindness and welcoming attitude made the whole experience feel personal, not just like another quick meal out. Between the delicious food, the warm service, and the clean, comfortable space, this place really deserves the 5 stars. We will absolutely be back. Highly recommend Sultan's if you're in the area! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with a warm, cozy atmosphere. It feels upscale without being pretentious, which made it a great place for a special occasion. Our server was friendly and helpful, so we asked for recommendations and ended up ordering a variety of dishes to share. We started with the Sweet Corn Hummus, which came with their complimentary pita bread. The pita was phenomenal! It isn't your typical plain pita you find at most Mediterranean restaurants. It has a delicious seasoning that makes it incredibly flavorful, and paired perfectly with the sweet corn hummus. We also tried the Moroccan Onion Dip. It has a slightly sweet flavor with noticeable cardamom notes. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Next time, I'll probably order the popular spicy whipped feta instead. One of our favorite dishes of the night was the Hamachi & Charred Avocado. It was light, fresh, and packed with flavor. Every bite was delicious. We also shared the Brussels Sprouts & Honeycrisp Apple Salad. The dressing was fresh and flavorful, but I realized I'm just not a fan of raw Brussels sprouts. The texture was a little too tough for my liking. That's on me--I should have asked beforehand if they were served raw. I think I'd enjoy it much more if the sprouts were roasted, so I probably wouldn't order this one again. For our hot mezze, we chose the Sweet Potato Latkes. They were very tasty with great flavor, although they were just a little on the greasy side. For our entrées, we ordered the Faroe Islands Salmon and the Shawarma-Spiced Skirt Steak Frites. The salmon kebabs over rice were my favorite dish of the evening. They were perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and something I'd absolutely order again. The skirt steak had great flavor as well. Although we requested medium, it came out closer to medium-rare. Thankfully, I'd rather have it slightly under than overcooked. The only disappointment on the plate was the fries--they tasted dry, almost like they had been refried instead of served fresh. The highlight of the meal, however, was dessert. The Triple Chocolate Torte was absolutely incredible. It wasn't overly sweet, the chocolate mousse was smooth and creamy, and the cake itself was rich, velvety, and decadent without being heavy. It was the perfect ending to the meal. And as part of the birthday celebration they served us frozen yogurt with sumac strawberry sauce which was so delicious. Overall, we had a fantastic birthday dinner. While there were a couple of dishes I probably wouldn't order again, the excellent service, inviting atmosphere, and several standout dishes made for a memorable experience. I would definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Upon my first visit on a Thursday for lunch, the waitress Nur provided excellent service to our table. She was patient, pleasant, and provided answers to our many questions. Just loved her service with a smile and uplifting energy. My friends and I ate hard and everyone enjoyed their food. I tried the lentil soup which was wonderful and I had the mushroom guvec with rice on the side that was delicious. We were served tea as an after dinner refresher which was nice. We noticed the bakery on the way out and they had so many treats ready to be ordered and taken home. The second visit was terrible. I came for lunch on a Tuesday and it wasn't busy. The lahmacon is offered as a lunch special and I asked if I could have the cheesemacon for the special. It's the same version with just cheese and no meat. My waiter Jamal straight told me no. I found that very odd so I inquired further because they are the same price on the menu and it's without meat. The answer still didn't change. I simply had a few more questions about other menu items and Jamal seemed agitated by then. He was not even trying to be nice. I ordered two entrees. I paid full price for the cheesemacon and had a pide with kashkaval cheese. Jamal brought my food and NEVER came back to my table. I watched him provide service to all the other tables during that time. I was fine and didn't need anything, but I didn't deserve to be treated that way for being pleasantly inquisitive. I really felt bothered by this because out of all my years of eating out, I never felt that a server treat me poorly personally for being myself. I've had bad service before just because the service is bad overall and that is different. I like the food so I reluctantly returned for a third time and had breakfast. Service was standard and the food was good. My mushroom omelette was fine. The traditional french toast was solid. This review should be one star but it is four without Jamal.

My wife and I were seated immediately. The server quickly brought us water and garlic bread. I really like that they give you 5 fairly big pieces of garlic bread for only two people. Nice touch. We were not in a hurry and couldn't decide what we wanted so we started with the calamari salad. $29, but it's huge and chock full of those calamari guys. Lettuce is always crisp and has everything I like in it (olives, eggs, carrots, artichoke, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and romaine lettuce). We were almost full just from the salad alone. I ordered a grouper sandwich (not fried), and my lovely wife ordered the Scottish salmon plate, which comes with potatoes and grilled vegetables. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fresh cut fries. They switched to fresh cut since my last visit, and this was an upgrade. My sandwich was great, and huge too. Could not finish it. Wife's meal was a humongous slab of salmon. The veggies now come on a smaller plate, but that's okay, given the size of the fish. Service was a tad slow, but like I said, we weren't in any hurry. Total tab was $100, with tax and that pesky 3% service fee. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. It's not a place I can go every week, but when I can splurge, and have a taste for fresh seafood, this is the best around.
