We have eaten here on and off for years. In the past they were spotty. The hot dogs weren't always the best. Chicagoans are familiar with proper hot dog preparation and we shouldn't need to rave about a good hot dog; it is what is expected. Well, we are happy to say that their hot dogs this evening were very good. They were the best we've had since we've been coming. Not sure but we think they have upgraded their ingredients and preparation. We will be coming back more often. read more

Ordered a Polish Sausage. It comes with everything on including fries. The menu also reads Polish is on French bread. When I got it home the Polish taste like a Polish hot dog not a Polish sausage. It was not on French bread it was on a poppyseed bun! By the time I got it home the base of the bun was mushy from the relish,onions etc... Ordered through the drive thru and food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Diablo steak sandwich, the C-vile steak sandwich, and a chili cheese fries. If you're looking for some spice, order the Diablo sandwich- my husband enjoyed it but just wished it was a little bigger. We all enjoyed the C-vile cheesesteak sandwiches (white American cheese, green peppers, and onion) and it made me wonder why I hadn't been there in years- it was just as good as I remembered (just more expensive like everything else nowadays). Always consistent, value pricing, I've ordered a lot of menu choices from Luke's. My one regret, they used to offer a meatball sub, but that's gone. This time around, Italian Beef (dipped) and a Mushroom Swiss Bacon burger, small fries. All terrific. So much better than chain fast food. Skip this place it's not worth your money. The staff was friendly and quick but the food sucks. I got the burger bc it appeared the most popular ( with everything on it ) . The meat was super dry and tasted similar to a patty you'd find at Culver's or McDonald ; nothing special. The "sauce" on the bottom is something similar To McDonald Big Mac sauce nothing special. As far as the fries are concerned.. horrible. Just by looking at them half appears over cooked . Upon tasting them there's NO SALT. 5 Stars is not nearly enough for Luke's. I've been coming here for years with my dad and friends and it remains to be my favorite restaurant of all time. It goes to show that some of the best food and service doesn't always come from large franchises. If you want authentic Chicago food at a great price, then look no further than Luke's. Everything is made to order and the quality definitely shows. I also have to give a huge shout out to Jaime. He knows his regulars and is always ready to strike up a conversation and put a smile on your face. It's people like him that turns a good experience into a great one. Lukes has great food. My favorites are the Italian beef, salad with chicken breast, C'Ville cheese steak, and any of the burgers. Everything is made fresh and made to order, so your going to wait a few minutes longer than a fast food chain, but Lukes is better than that garbage read more

Carpentersville's local grease joint, minus the late night hours that you would expect from a place offering fried-up goodness by the oil-stained paper bagful. First off, I should explain that I am writing this review with thoughts of my Mom, who is inexplicably enamored by Luke's. Don't get me wrong, I like a good Pizza Puff every now and then, and do enjoy their fried shrimp - but she LOVES Luke's. We'll make plans to take her out to the city whenever she's in town - give her the choice of a nice white-tablecloth restaurant - and she'll choose Luke's. Every. Time. The funny thing is the way goes about doing so. She refuses to outright admit that she would prefer to eat at Luke's. For whatever reason, she feels the need to cover it up via faux indifference. The conversation usually goes something like this: Me: So Mom, we were thinking of going to the city tonight! Some place nice. Maybe Roy's? You like Roy's. Mom: Okay...or... Me: ? Mom: I mean, we could 'just' go to Luke's. Me: (Noticing the bad-acting attempt at trying to sound indifferent.) Would you RATHER go to Luke's? Mom: No! Let's go to Roy's. I haven't been downtown in a long time. Me: Okay, we'll make reservations for around 7. Mom: Or we could get chicken wings at Luke's! (By this point, she's getting a bit desperate. I notice her voice fluctuate a little at the end, and she has a kind of a wild look in her eyes.) Me: Do you WANT chicken wings from Luke's? Mom: If you do...? Me: Sigh. Add to that fifteen or so more minutes of roundabout conversation...and cut to the scene of us enjoying paper trays full of assorted fried finger-foods - courtesy of Luke's. To be fair, I do like Luke's just as much as the next Carpentersville resident. However, I'm usually only in the market for that particular type of cuisine if it's either: (1) Past 2AM and I've been drinking; (2) I've granted myself a 'cheat' day; (3) A combination of the above. Luke's is my favorite hometown restaurant. I could probably ride a bike over there if I wanted to, but a quick drive down the road for a good gyro or double cheeseburger is going to be waiting for me. Everyone that works at Luke's is always nice and always gets your order right. I can't say I've had anything on the menu I didn't like. I guess I'm not a really picky eater, but I can say everything on the menu is going to be good. I've been guilty of ordering 2 pizza puffs at a time; I know right? The owner is a super nice dude. Just look for the guy with the crazy facial hair. If you've got a sweet tooth, definitely try out the chocolate malt.
