This was our first time eating at The Chicken Basket. Although reviews were mixed and mostly out of date, I had wanted to try this place for a while because I love cute little small businesses like this. The fried chicken was really some of the best I've had. It was light and crispy in the outside and juicy on the inside. Green beans came from a can but the fried okra was the real thing. First tried this place a couple of years ago and it was wonderful, but something has drastically changed. Went for lunch this past Sunday and waited 45 minutes for our food and they were NOT busy. Who waits 45 minutes for a meat and three?!?! When we got the food my meatloaf and cornbread were so dry you couldn't eat it and the waitress poured a fly into my son's water cup from the pitcher and kept on moving. After we spoke to the staff about the wait and the fly they were very non-chalant with a mediocre "sorry". I hate this because we love eating here after a day on the lake, but... Hopefully, we can find another restaurant to dine at in the local area that cares about food and customer service. read more

Food is GREAT! The Staff are quick and friendly. I do enjoy going in to eat when I have the chance. The place is very clean, even the restrooms are clean and smell fresh. The food is a bit pricey but if you want all of the above then it's worth it. I do have one regret about my visit the first time. I truly regret not finding this place a whole lot sooner. Great family owned restaurant with fantastic chicken. The owner took care of us, giving us some free sweet tea while we waited for our big takeout order, and the sweet tea is real smooth. Ordered the chicken and livers and they stayed juicy and crispy until we got home half an hour later. I really can't complain about the food at all, it filled us up, was seasoned well, if not with too much uniqueness to the spice, and the crunch was superb. The place looks like it has seen some history, and the patrons know that they're going to get a good meal and welcoming service when they come in. read more

Best place for quality of food and the best environment of waitresses/waiters. Me and my husband got the two piece chicken and let me tell you it was so delicious. The outside was so crispy and the inside was so juicy. Baked beans were to die for and the mashpotatoes and gravy were on point. Honestly the best fried chicken I've had since my late auntie Lynn's(Rip2008). It's been a while since I've tasted good homestyle fried chicken. The chicken Basket is a must when we visit the area. I always get an order of freshly prepared onion rings on the way in to Twin Lakes, where we camp. The box is usually empty before I arrive! They, along with the decor were my favorite things about this place. The waitress whom I didn't hear the name of was very attentive to our needs. My chicken was good, however it seemed as though it had been bought fresh, but then frozen. It was still cooked very well and only needed a little more seasoning to reach its full potential. My girlfriend's chicken livers were fried with a fresh, thin batter and was much better than Cracker Barrel's. She said the livers themselves were fresh and seemed to be a high quality. Her mashed potatoes were unfortunately the instant type and were on the dry side. PLEASE NOTE: While sodas are only $1.65, they only came with one refill before you get charged again. So pleasantly surprising!! Stopped here on my way to move up the east coast. Just needed food desperately and this was amazing. Very small town feel. Waitresses seemed to know everyone which is always a good sign. I'd got an order of fried catfish and about 20 minutes later a different waitress came over and said they didn't have any catfish. It's fine I'm starving so I order a fried chicken sandwich. My whole table enjoyed their food + was amazing sweet tea. The sandwich came out very quickly after and was pretty good. More seasoning and toppings than like Chick-Fil-A. I wish I'd known about this place when I had friends at Clemson, it's such a short drive and totally worth it. read more

We have always got chicken basket, but after today I will not be back. Everything started out great until the guy came up to where we were ordering and pushed the nice lady out of the way who was helping us. He was rude from the get go. I asked hi. If I could add a appetizer to my order and he flat out told me I he would not add anything to my order. While the lady who was helping us at first was keep interrupting her as she was talking to us. I have never been talk to the way he did. I was told they were short staffed and that it would take 20-30min to get my order which was absolutely fine with us. When Jeff's daughter snf son we're running it it was a 5. When Jeff decided to run it food quality went down and Jeff's attitude is horrible. A patron also saw him shove an elderly woman. It was a great place when his late wife worked and when his daughter took over she revamped the place and built a huge clientele with her brother as the cook. But now the restaurant is sadly going down again under The owners management. Plz bring back his daughter and son and jeff stay home and out of the business!!! read more

We eat here at least once a week and we always have great service from the dark brown headed lady and the blonde hair lady with short hair. The food is always consistent and delightful. I've only had the fried oysters and tried chicken but they were both great. I usually get food to go, but it's a nice place to eat. It looks like it hasn't changed since it opened, but it's always very clean. I often get the 16 piece fried chicken meal on the way home from work which comes with the best beans I've had, and other assorted sides to choose from.
