We love nice cream! Their banana whip rules and their sundae suggestions are top notch

I have to warn you, my review might be a little slanted as I enjoyed my 'Banana on Vacation' while the hot sun was beating down. That being said, I feel it would still be a solid 4-star experience on a cooler day. The Chily Banana's concept is fairly simple. They replace ice cream with frozen, blended banana. $5 gets you the basic, while $7 can get you a little extra in terms of toppings. I love coconut, so the Banana on Vacation with pineapple, coconut chips, and coconut whipped cream seemed like a no brainer. Locking down a location for this truck might be a bit tricky. I ran into them at the East Passyunk Car Show, but they move around South Jersey and Philly. I believe they announce locations on their facebook/twitter page, so if you have them as a must try (or would at least like to give them a shot), I'd recommend checking there for locations. read more

I love a good guilt-free dessert as much as the next person, so I was really excited to see The Chilly Banana listed as an attendee of a food truck event in Princeton. A standard banana whip with coconut milk whipped cream is $5, the ones with toppings are $7 (or you can make a custom one for $1/topping), and they also have an ice cream sandwich made with banana whip and vegan brownies. I got the PBB&J ($7), which is topped with raspberry compote, peanut butter, peanuts, and graham crackers. The texture of the banana whip is really creamy, like thicker soft serve - I was impressed - but I really didn't care for the taste. Maybe I just got a bad batch, but it wasn't sweet at all and just tasted like unripe banana, and the color was very gray and not so appealing. The peanut butter was also the non-natural, processed kind, which was a bit surprising, and the texture didn't go well with the banana whip. The raspberry preserves were fairly sour and would probably have gone better with something sweeter. I liked the crunch that the peanuts and crumbled graham crackers added though! I had really high hopes for this food truck, but they weren't met; the Bent Spoon in Princeton for example does a better job and banana whip isn't even their focus. It seems like a lot of thought has gone into the visuals and how well different combinations will photograph, and it might be helpful to consider the experience of eating as well. The people inside the truck were very friendly, and they do accept credit cards. Also be aware the not all the toppings are vegan; the Bananaberry Shortcake uses Entenmann's poundcake for example. read more

Been meaning to try this cute little truck for years now. Thankfully, they were parked right at Passyunk Square for their Spring Flavors Festival. We split the "Banana on Vacation" $7 for the regular size which includes fresh pineapple, toasted coconut chips, CMWC, and a cherry. I added fruity pebbles and chocolate chips to it. Definitely one of the few "healthier" food truck options in the city. Would be perfect for any sort of events that need a creative and sweet dessert option. What an adorable, whimsical place! I was hungover yesterday (first one since pre-pandemic) and needed something frozen, sweet and not caloric to cure my combination headache/nausea. This place came in clutch. Used to be Avenue Scoop I think, but I like the use of this space better. Got a banana whip shake with oat milk and a fresh strawberry mix-in. Honestly, I could've tried everything, it all sounded soooo damn good (and plus most, if not all, of their ingredients are GF/vegan, which is great if you have lactose intolerance like me.) Prices are a little on the high end, but you're getting quality ingredients. Can't wait to come here on a hot summer's day. read more

I love the Chilly Banana! I first discover this truck in Atlantic City, NJ at the Vegan Festival down there. Their little pink truck is so adorable! You can't miss it! We loved that their concept was simply banana whip, only frozen bananas. It's a healthy treat to dress up with amazing toppings! At the festival I enjoyed the Fluffernutter Nana Sundae. It had banana whip, peanut butter, graham crackers, peanuts and topped with their rice-mallow (think marshmallow) topping. It was soooo good! I loved the combination of flavors! I had their Chocolate PB Crunk recently and it was so delicious! I loved the chocolate, it really complimented the PB and banana whip. I can't wait to try more of their sundaes! read more

I live all way close to Berks county so it's hard for me to make trips down to Philly for some food. But they came up to Pottstown to the Coventry Mall for their food festival. Their Nice cream is the absolute best and their combinations are amazing. This was awhile back but I remember thinking I should have had it with the Nutella instead of the fudge, it was good but I think the combo I got would have been great if I had left it alone. My little sister just moved to South Philly. She lives around the corner from Herman's. She told me about this ice cream truck that is parked there on Sundays. We walked down there and turns out it's not ice cream at all! It's frozen banana! It's the first time I've ever had it and I loved it. It doesn't make me sick like Ice cream does. I may or may not be lactose intolerant. The jury is still out on that one. I got the PBB&J because I don't like coconut. Most things there had coconut chips or coconut whip cream on them. So I avoided anything with coconut. However after trying some of my sister's choice I thought "wow this isn't coconutty at all!" Anyway the Peanut butter, peanuts, graham cracker, and frozen mashed banana I got was fantastic. When I got back home I couldn't wait to tell my wife. To my surprise she asked if I've been living under a rock?! I guess this frozen banana thing has been around since she was in college. This reminds me of that time we visited my brother in Denmark and he couldn't wait to show us Churros. He thought they were some exotic food that could only be found in Europe. So while at the food truck fest yesterday we opted to try the chilly banana. This truck had the longest line by far. We waited roughy 15 minutes. The staff were extremely friendly and we had high hopes. We decided to go for the banana on vacation. It was pineapple, toasted coconut and banana ice cream. First we're the toppings. The pineapple seemed to be out of the jar and the coconut was beyond hard. We had such high expectations for a healthy fresh product. The toppings to ice cream was also off, way too many topping and not enough ice cream. The banana ice cream was just okay. The bananas didn't seem fresh and the consistency was weird. Almost like soft serve but kinda like a yogurt. It was strange. Unfortunately we will not return. It just wasn't for us. 2 stars read more

Absolutely love this truck. So many delicious, dairy free, gluten-free, vegan and healthy options for those of us who can't/choose not to eat certain things. This is truly a genius idea executed in the best possible way. So much respect to the owner, Kevin, for running his own food business. I walked up after stumbling upon this truck outside of Herman's Coffee and was immediately greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. I'm pretty simple, so I decided to go with the plain banana jams with some coconut whipped cream on top (also vegan). Holy moly, it was so refreshing and so delicious, and best of all, guilt free!! The Chilly Banana is the place to go when you want a clean, guilt free dessert! The banana whip is so smooth and the topping options are abundant. I tried this delicious banana whip at a vegan food truck fest in AC. This place had a HUGE line, so we had to check it out and boy they did not disappoint! Banana whips are the perfect ice cream alternative, so light and fluffy just like soft serve. I tried the fluffernutter topped with vegan marshmallow fluff, peanut butter and graham crackers. It was AMAZING. The combination of flavors was delicious with salty and sweet notes, there was texture from the graham crackers and the vegan fluff was surprisingly good. I had the banana on vacation and it taste so good! The ice cream was very cream and not too sweet which I really like. The serving is really good and the price is reasonable. Will definitely go back and recommend to other people. read more
