The Chimney sweeps canceled an appointment last minute after I had changed my plans with my grandchildren to be at the appointment. When they finally came out to clean and inspect my chimney, they mentioned some work that needed to be done. He supposedly cleaned our chimney, but we found out that wasn't true When we called out another company for a second opinion he showed us that the Chimney Sweep just went up straight one pass in our Chimney. It was disgusting all the soot that he brought down from our Chimney and the side walls of our fireplace. It was dangerous that it was not cleaned properly. The chimney sweeps said there was moisture getting into our chimney and showed us where which was right above the fireplace doors, and Iit needed to be tuck pointed which it did. However, the leak was coming in from outside on the Chimney ledge. There was a large crack there. If we hadn't gotten a second opinion, the moisture would've still been there and more damage would've been done to the bricks in our fireplace. Never hire them!!! The boss is DISHONEST, RUDE, and an ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE PERSON to talk to!!!! They cold called me and told me their special price of roughly $100. Also offered free dyer vent cleaning if I wanted. I said I was sure if I needed that and the lady cold calling said to just let them know when the guys arrive. Come the day the chimney took less than 5 minutes, the guys were packing up and I said to one of them supposed to include dryer vent too, you might as well do it. He told the other guy "she said dryer vent too". That guy said, "sure if she wants". They finished in another 5 minutes. I told them I would pay with credit card. He said it was $199.00!!!! He would not listen. He said he wouldn't listen to the "he- said- he said nonsense" BEFORE I could even speak!! I was so mad and wanted to explain the confusion BUT he kept interrupting me. Horrible company to do business with. Had them over to check our fireplaces to make sure they were in good order and fix our dryer vent since it had came loose. Tech came out, didn't speak very good English, new to USA. Had to keep showing me his phone that translated what he said to English or call his office to put his boss on line to talk with me. They charged me $399 and a few weeks later dryer vent detached. Called to get them out and all they kept saying was I needed to send them a pic. Told them we are in our 70's and can't crawl on the concrete floor to take a pic behind stackable washer/dryer unit. Dryer was pushing lint all over laundry room and clumps behind unit. My friend gave me a contact for a second opinion and they told me they didn't even clean my chimney and there was ZERO glazing. They called me and lied that we have used them before, and since we were old customers they had an offer of $69.50 for a chimney sweep and inspection. I almost fell for the scam and asked for the price for 2 chimneys. The woman gave me a swooping $1 discount for the second chimney, and then was totally condescending and rude in how she explained how the pricing works. She claimed that a $138 total for 2 chimneys was several dollars and that my math was wrong.... I gave up and thought let me book and then check my invoices from last time. The woman tells me that I can pick a day but she cant give me a time frame. The owner Jim will call me the night before the appointment and give me a 1 hour window. I told her well that doesnt work I cant put the entire day on hold, and then she started belittling me and talking really rude. We had a very negative experience with Scott at The Chimney Sweeps in terms of taking responsibility for work. The single biggest complaint I have is that they indicated that there was work that needed to be done on the chimney fan and showed us pictures they took from the roof of exposed wires by the chimney. Their $300 fix was to wrap some tape around the wires. The first time we tried to use it, the fan didn't work. Scott refused to return to help, indicating...I'm not an electrician, so how can I fix the problem. Well, Scott, if you're not an electrician, you should have recommended that we get an electrician to do the work, rather than charging us for work you weren't qualified to do. Booked this service from a cold call last Saturday. I asked the caller a few business related questions and she could not answer any of them. She only worked for the telemarketing company they hired. I'm a little torn about my experience. I got a Groupon and also got a receipt from THE FIREPLACE & CHIMNEY GUY...(630) 882-0244. Now I did get the chimney cleaned out for $79, but then he told me I need tuckpointing in the fireplace, which was another $75. He offered to clean out my dryer vent tubing for another $75. He capped the vent out with a plastic "bird guard" for $30. There was also a travel charge of $20 for being 24.7 miles away from Schaumburg, however, that is still within the 25 miles of Schaumburg. So all in all, $279 total. At any rate, I was a little concerned when they said they didn't take credit cards and only would take cash or personal checks written to Rob Reimer. (I'll be watching my account going forward.) Although services were render and he did leave footprints all the way through my house, my chimney is clean. He also offered to do some sealing on the roof, but I had to stop him there. The guy who did our service was named Aaron Thorton 312-206-8433.
