We opted for dinner out, so went over (my first time). I had chicken salad on rye, husband had patty melt - it's dry, ask for sauce, daughter had chicken tenders and son had cowboy burger. These with sweet potatoe fries. Very friendly and like the "old timey" atmosphere.

First of all it's worth the drive. I have been here a few times. Never had a dessert. But I have had their burgers and fries. Very enjoyable. The service is always friendly and gives you a small town feel. This evening we had dessert. I had the salty caramel in a shake form. And you get the leftovers ;). It wasn't knock your socks off but it was really good. Wife had the chocolate sundae. The flavors are very tasty. The only issue is the hot fudge and toppings were on the bottom. Like they made it backwards. Definitely would go back and try again.

    Enjoying the best tenderloins around!

What a great find in a cool small town! My wife and I both had the tenderloin and it was unlike any tenderloin I've had before. The tenderloin is marinated overnight and then lightly breaded and grilled on a flat top to give you a nice juicy meat flavor forward sandwich. Usually all you can taste with a tenderloin is the breading. We both had fries and they were crispy and fresh tasting. To top it off I had a childhood favorite a cherry phosphate. It was delicious and brought back lots of memories. We were both full from our lunch but wanted dessert so we got a couple pints of ice cream to go and boy were they delicious. The Moose has a lot of flavors you wouldn't find other places. It may be out-of-the-way but it's definitely worth a trip to Farmland to visit the chocolate Moose.

I found out about this restaurant in a book "Dining Secrets of Indiana" that was given to me as a gift. So when I decided to explore northern Wayne County and Randolph County, this was the first place I bookmarked. Literally located on Main Street, the restaurant occupies a gorgeous and historic building on the corner. (Sorry, no stoplight to use as a reference point). Inside, the restaurant has a front and rear dining room, with the ice cream counter and cashier counter on the left. I was directed to sit anywhere I liked in the front room and was brought a menu for food and one for ice cream. The waitress was very helpful in suggesting the items that are the best/most popular from the list of sandwiches, burgers, soups, and salads. I usually drink water with my meal to keep calories down, and to have more money to spend on my meal. But when I saw this place offered Green River Phosphates, I had to get one. I grew up in a small town and our local drug store had a soda fountain where I could order one of these drinks. Emerald green in color, the lemon lime flavor is just a bit different from the other mass produced brands. I like it best! I also decided to go with the special hand breaded Tenderloin that is seasoned with their own "Moose" seasoning and coated in crushed crackers before being grilled. These tenderloins are not pounded flat like a fritter. Instead, they are left about a half inch thick and fit the bun a lot better. The flavor was great! Lots of combined flavors held up with the lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mustard I added. I would highly recommend! I was a bit disappointed with the house made chips. They deep fry them as ordered. However, I think they overloaded the basket since the chips looked done, but about half remained soggy without crisping. Those tend to hold the oil taste and were left unfinished. The service was close to full service with the exception that when the bill is brought, you pay at the counter. My waitress was friendly, helpful, and checked in to make sure the flavor of the sandwich was good (that was before I got to the flimsy chips). The interior has lots of memorabilia and photos on the walls to give it some of the small town charm. I would like to return to try one of their burger/bacon combos that are topped with onion rings. I made to do some hiking before AND after that! Note: I don't believe there is any connection between this restaurant and the ice cream shops in Bloomington and Nashville, IN. Review #2588

Friendly staff and great burgers! We were in town visiting friends and family and stopped by here. My family enjoyed their juicy burgers. The sweet potato fries were delicious!! The pollock sandwich was ok, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Wish we would have had time to come back for their shakes!

The slushes come with a couple pretzels on your straw. That sweet and salty combination is tasty! Since then, I've tried other frozen sweet treats on the menu, and I've never been disappointed. But it wasn't all that long ago that I tried the food...and it was good too. We were visiting my family and starving, so we stopped. They've got a little bit of everything...hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, chicken strips, salads. The food we ordered was made while we waited and came out hot. We had no complaints. We liked the food enough that we stopped on another visit because we knew we could get something good. I still can't resist a slush every once in a while. I've tried different flavors, but I always come back to the grape. This little ice cream shop is easy to miss when cruising down the highway. But be on the lookout and stop and give it a try. It's worth the slight detour!

Ivanhoe's was ok, but nothing special. It's like a rundown and dilapidated Culver's, but with a smaller menu and the food isn't nearly as good. We got there at 11:40 and it was busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest... It was literally like an AARP Club in there (we were the young whipper snappers). The service was friendly, but it took 40 minutes for us to order and get our food... Their operations were super slow and inefficient. The food itself was alright (decent pork tenderloin) and they have an ice cream menu the size of Texas, but overall it just wasn't anything to write home about. Ivanhoe's is your quintessential podunk small town Indiana restaurant, which is cool but not worth all the hype... Good? Yes. Great? No.

There's quite a bit you know about me if you've followed my reviews for any length of time. This likely includes my long friendship with fellow Yelp Elites Rick G. and Holly G. - in fact, I performed their wedding ceremony! The three of us have actually collaborated on quite a few projects over the years, either due to Rick's music and comedy or because of my long history of activism and charity work. Frequently, our collaborations combine Rick and Holly's creativity with my activist spirit. For a couple years, Rick and Holly owned a shop in Metamora called Mosaic Learn & Play - I, in turn, owned a small charity bookstore within the walls of Mosaic. While I never spent nearly as much time in Metamora as did Rick and Holly, I spent my fair share of time there and grew to appreciate the picturesque, friendly town. Rick and Holly's wedding was even in Metamora! As is true of most historic towns, accessibility can definitely be an issue in Metamora. Truthfully, I'd say there's more that's not accessible than there actually is accessible in the town. Grannies is most certainly not perfect, a step greeting you at the front door and a crowded shop making even the most experienced wheelchair user more than a little paranoid. It's possible, I've been to Grannies more than once, but it's definitely a shop where I take my time wheeling and I am super careful everywhere I turn. Grannies, first of all, is an official world record holder. Granny owns over 2600 cookie jars - and I believe they're all actually here in this shop. She's held the record since 2012, as I recall. Grannies is, of course, an ice cream shop. Granny even makes all of her waffle cones by hand. Each one has a Hershey kiss at the bottom. She puts a whole lot of love in her waffle cones. The ice cream is pretty incredible, too. She has quite a few flavors and they're at reasonable prices for pretty darn amazing servings. Grannies is open 7 days a week throughout the year. While I can't say I'd drive all the way to Metamora for her ice cream, if I am in the Metamora there's no way I'm leaving without stopping at Grannies. Metamora is a beautiful little canal town. It has definitely been impacted by the pandemic, but the people are also hanging in there. I'm not quite going to say that time stands still here, but it's sure not a place you go to speed up. Metamora is a surprisingly easy drive from Indy and the entire Franklin County area could easily be a relaxing, fairly isolated day trip with Brookville also nearby as the seat of the county. There are even a couple places you can stay in Metamora, though they aren't particularly strong with access and you'd probably want to go to Brookville if that's needed. If you get a chance, head south to Metamora and be sure to stop in at Grannies for some ice cream and definitely check out those cookie jars!
