This review is based totally on one drink. Perhaps it's not fair but it is what it is. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it came out in a miniature martini glass. When I asked why it wasn't in the right glass, I was told that it was because they don't put ice in it. I should hope not! I was then told that, it was just the way Chop House makes them. The problem with that was that the previous week, I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was in the correct glassware. Poor greeting, slow and long wait AT BEST. Prices are too high for this kind of service. We should have been given our meals for free. The hostess gave a time for our wait just for appeasement. If there is a crowd 'after general church times' the management is doing a lousy and dismal job preparing for it by failing to staff in order to meet this demand. Proper prior planning prevents poor performance. Overall, my experience was terrible. The taste of the food, as most servers ask to throw you off from the real reason you come to a restaurant, is completely irrelevant. However, if it is relevant to you as the reader of this review, stay home and prepare your own meal. You will eat with people you care for, at a time convenient for you and not "Chop House's" staff and management and in a better established atmosphere. I am not inclined to eat at this place again. I have to admit, I was originally going to Logans and saw this place on my map. I ordered a Sam Adams at the bar and the sirloin, with a loaded baked potato and mushrooms. It was a bit full, but the bar slowly started filling in as I waited the environment was really relaxed and welcoming, the staff was attentive and friendly. Then the food arrived, and the steak was cooked to perfection (Medium Rare) and the loaded baked potato was huge, Though I couldn't spear any mushrooms they were a bit flavorless admittedly but the steak more than made up for it. Overall I really enjoyed it, and the total for my meal came to 29.00 roughly. So I feel it was fairly priced, I did, however, tip twelve dollars toward the waitress. Personally, I'm a fan. I love the food and the ambience. They have the best sweet potato fries I've ever had-hands down. The steaks are great; well seasoned and well prepared. My go-to meal is the lobster tail. Mister's favorite? Prime rib.They have great lunch options at great prices. I have not tried the desserts. Frankly, I'm always too stuffed to try them. I'm moving to Memphis. Sadly, there's no Chop House in Memphis. When I do make it back home, I know my first stop will be Chop House! They were cooked just right & since I'm not a fan of lamb we can just take his word for it. As for my ribeye, perfection. Cooked medium. No sauce needed. Plenty of flavor. Had a bit more fat that I'd like but it was a ribeye. That's something that's a bit expected. We arrived around 9pm on a Sunday to get something to eat. The staff was very accommodating and not acting like we were an inconvenience due to the restaurant closing at 10pm. The ceaser salad was excellent as the dressing tasted as if it were homemade. I ordered the horseradish crusted filet which was very tasty. I was not expecting to write a review tonight but I had such a great experience contrary to the reviews and overall rating for this restaurant. I walked in planning to get a filet mignon but saw a great special that caught my eye. I ate a delicious 8 oz prime rib, amazing parmesan creamed spinach and fresh baked bread for $15. $15!!! To top it off, the server was very attentive and my food literally arrived less than ten minutes after I ordered even though it was the dinner rush. It is managed by Nick Joiner, who has spent so much time at our table over the years making sure we received the best service that we now consider him a personal friend. And we have been blessed with excellent servers like Kim and Mariell. We do dinners more often than lunch, and I usually get the large filet mignon with baked potato and the awesome chocolate mouse cake for desert. I am particular in that I want my steak cooked medium plus, and the cooks deliver just what I want nearly every time. I arrived a little before 2:30 PM Feb. 18 for a late lunch, primarily to avoid the wait times and as I thought the restaurant was less than half full; however, this didn't go as expected. The seating process went quickly and I ordered shortly after I sat down then was mostly ignored. I got some weird looks from the waitress, Latoya if the check is to be believed, a couple of times though. In order to see how bad it might get I just waited. About 20 minutes later I finally got the water I asked for. The bread was supposedly still being baked. Perhaps 26 or 27 minutes into the ordeal I received my food, still no bread... He raved and told me I had to try their Goat Cheese Burger. So here I am, in this quiet place with high ceilings, a few TVs and that looks like the inside of a log cabin somewhere in the north. I like it. It was "mature" and get off a fancy vibe, but without fancy prices. How can you go wrong? I had 2 hours to kill so I wanted to really stretch out my dining experience. Brianna was very sweet and paid close attention to me so my water glass stayed full, most of the time and she was always around if I needed something (granted it was a 2:00pm on a Thursday). I started with the Ahi Tuna which is served rare, with avocado, cucumber, sesame soy sauce, cilantro oil, sriracha and crispy chips. It was SO good. It was warm, soft, savory and went well with everything else on the plate. (See picture.) I could've stopped here... but why? I was certainly satisfied, but not quite full. So, I continued. Remember that Goat Cheese Burger ol' boy from the Apple store recommended? I ain't get it. Lol. I got their good ol' Steak Burger from the lunch menu. $9.00, can't beat that. On an extended visit from Brooklyn,NY and came here based on Google reccomendations. So far I've learned that you're either going to get good food or good service here in Augusta. Very rarely will you ever get both. Location was clean, ambient and professional. Service was shaky at 1st but improved tremendously over the course of dinner. Food was... okay. Maybe short staffed and busy night or just an off night IDK. Sweet Tea was waaaay too sweet. Coffee was burnt. Old Fashion drinks were okay. Table bread and butter was phenomenal. Ceaser Salad was salty. Corn "Tamale" cakes is just a fancy way of saying Corn Muffins with Pico de Gallo, Ranch and Avocado. Ordered the Full Shrimp with Fettucine & Broccoli & a side of Mac n Cheese as well as the 16oz Prime Rib (rare) with side of Baked Sweet Potato and the Caramel Fudge Cake. At first they missed the Fettucine with Broccoli & when I did get it it was half a head of plain steamed Broccoli with literally 2 fork twirls of plain Fettucine. Shrimp were super dry, had to rely heavily on the lemon juice & lemon butter to improve. Mac n Cheese was okay but the waitress waived the Mac n Cheese due to the mix up. Prime Rib was over cooked to Medium Rare and bland. After requesting the Au Jus, it became better. Sweet Potato was good. Caramel Fudge Cake was super super dry. Overall, this place was pretty good. The prices are a bit high for what you get but we left there feeling full. It was a nice evening with just my wife and I. I'd go back again but I've heard that this place is hit or miss. This time, I'd give it a hit. The service was excellent. We had a young lady who was training. She was prompt and courteous and had our orders in and out in the table in no time flat. I had the ribeye and although I asked for medium, it was medium rare. I didn't say anything because I was hungry and we were on a timeline. Plus, it was seasoned well. My wife had the chicken teriyaki with rice and broccoli. She devoured it and raved about for an hour after we left. My only recommendation is for the chef to actually check the steaks prior to taking them off the grill and plating it. 7/15/23..The food was excellent. The service was not good. I literally asked for lemons for my water 5 times. I ordered first out of 8 people. I ordered petite pork chops, cream spinach, a sweet potato and a ceaser salad, the person next to said they would like to have the same except instead of the sweet potato they wanted onion rings. The salads never came b4 the entrées. When the entrées came my creamed spinach didn't come with my order. She said that I requested a ceaser salad not creamed spinach. Keep in mind the next order was to be like minds. We had 8 orders, I was paying for 7 orders. She brought 2 receipts. The gratuity was not on the receipt. My bill was 105.00, the other bill was 17.00. So I told her that I would pay both bills. She said that's why I asked in the beginning who was paying because now she was going to have to get the manager to run the bills again. I had already put the 2 bills , my debit card and $20 for her tip. Not knowing once the receipt was going to add $23 gratuity. So I ended up paying $176.00 for us. Over paid $20. Check ¬Decent Steaks on empty plates, with your choice of greenery a lone sprig of some disheveled produce, or some scant smear of creamed mystery? ¬Deserts straight from the grocery store frozen section? Check ¬Party of more than five? One of you will have desert served before the other has laid eyes on their entree. And as a bonus, there will likely be an error on your bill ...when it eventually arrives after much prodding and delay. Overall for the price you pay, I would not recommend this place. The steak and shrimp was good but that's about it... The creamed spinach was inedible. It was really sweet and tasted awful. I had to spit it out into a napkin. I've never had to do that before. They didn't even cook the lobster right. You're supposed to pull the meat out before cooking so that way it's easier to pull out of the shell. They did not do that and it was difficult to dig into. It was also tough, dry, and overcooked. The "loaded" potatoes also lacked toppings. I waited 2 hours for my food and it was cold. They also forgot to tell me that one of my lobster tails was sold out until my food came. It would've been nice to know that when I originally placed my order 2 hours earlier. The manager apologized but still. I don't understand what took so long to bring that to my attention. He seemed a little lost in the sauce. We didn't even have silverware when our food arrived. The finished plates were never taken off the table so it was a crowded mess even when we stacked our dishes to be taken away. It wasn't the worst experience I've ever had, at least the staff and our waitress was friendly. I just don't think I'll be going out of my way to come here again. It's not worth the hype. Absolutely delicious food and great customer service! They offer 50% off entrees to military on Mondays. Been here several times at their food is fresh and delicious.
