Stay away - far, far away! So, my wife and I used to go here for special occasions. It has been about four years since we were here and our memory was that we were not impressed with the last visit (pre-COVID). But it was our anniversary and we decided to try it again. Big mistake! It started when we walked in and were ignored by the hostess as she basically read the entire menu to somebody on the phone. Finally, after several minutes, somebody noticed us standing there and showed us to a table. The first problem was horrible Muzak blasting through the speakers. The waitress came over to take our drink order and we asked if she could get them to turn it down - it was loud and bad. (It was turned down) I ordered a 12 year Macallan, rocks. Her response? "You mean like a shot or something?" Really? This is supposed to be a high end steak house and this drink order confuses you? She got our drinks and took our order. She came back with the salads and asked, "Oh, did y'all want bread?" Umm, yes, we do. She brought back the bread and about two minutes later showed up with our entrees. We were maybe about 1/3 of the way through our salads. Hello! This isn't McDonald's, we planned on spending a little time and having a relaxing dinner. My wife had the filet and it was completely scorched, like charcoal briquet on the outside, but bloody raw on the inside. This is medium? I had the prime rib. I asked the waitress for horseradish for the meat and sour cream for the potato. After asking me what type of horseradish, she brought me the wrong one. The meat? Let me tell you what I told the manager. I am 63 years old and I have never had a piece of prime rib this bad. It was a gelatinous mass that wouldn't even cut, it just rolled under the blade of the knife. I couldn't eat it. I told the waitress how bad it was and here comes the manager. I explained to her just how horrible this was, and she asked me if I wanted another steak or something. I told her don't bother, I was going to get some chicken wings. I came on a Tuesday evening and the place was pretty quiet. I ordered the petite pork chops with Mac n Cheese and mashed potatoes. Honestly the mashed potatoes was the only thing on my plate that had any flavor. I was really disappointed in the Mac n cheese and the pork. Both were cooked fine and looked fine but the flavor and seasoning was missing. They do have a great selection on the menu and a great discount for retired/active duty military. The drink was a little too sweet but you could still taste the alcohol. I was not a fan of the macaroni. It was very bland and the noodles were overcooked. Decent low-end-mall steak house. Steak was under and I've had better waitresses at Applebees. Truly, the waitress was uninterested in her job. I would go back if no other steak restaurants were open for lunch. For dinner I could think of better ways to spend money. For $150, two people can eat a reasonable steak with a drink and an appetizer. If there were roaches running around the table I would have given one star. But it was clean so I'll give it two. This place failed both Restaurant Food Prep 101 and Service Prep 101. I'll come back to that. We went on Superbowl Sunday and the place was near empty. Before we got our food the waitress came by three times to ask if we were okay. Yes. Yes we were okay. Our Cokes were delightful all three times. A little weird but no points deducted. We both ordered medium steaks. Now, this place is called "The Chop House." There's a cleaver in the logo, and there are literally steaks on display in a glass case in front of house. Why... Oh *why* did my steak come out bloody in the center and my wife's look like shoe leather? Look here. Whatever you're serving that your entire theme revolves around, your *signature dish* per se... That thing should be absolutely on point. Literally everything else can be mediocre and that's still a three star review. If you screw up your main dish, you have failed Restaurant Food Prep 101. Chop House failed that hard. Back to our waitress. She was nice, and we are polite people, we did not give our waitress a hard time at all. Kitchen mistakes are not her fault. When my wife pointed out that her steak was pretty severely overcooked, our very nice waitress took her entire plate, half-eaten sides and all. But she did refill my wife's coke. Not mine, which was empty, but at least my wife's. I ate my medium rare steak without complaint, but my baked potato was dry. Very dry. So dry that at the halfway point it was sticking in my throat, which was also dry because my drink had been empty for a good 5-10 minutes at that point. Did I mention the place was damn near empty? But our waitress eventually made her way over and asked if we were okay, and that they were cooking my wife a new steak. I managed to croak out that I could use a refill. My wife asked if they could just bring her steak to go. She said yes, and took my glass to refill it... And my plate, complete with the other half of my baked potato that I had every intention of eating... Once I had enough moisture in my mouth to get it down without needing the Heimlich maneuver. But at least she came back fairly quickly with a refilled soda. So yep, Food Service 101 also failed. Other notes: The decor/ambience was good, but they were playing some muzak elevator tunes the whole time which got pretty old pretty quickly. I used a calculator to figure out an exact 15% tip, which compared to how I generally tip would have been my version of a slap in the face, but then decided to round up to a more equitable number due to how empty the place was and waitresses gotta live too. It was honestly more than she deserved. A final observation: When you make reservations the online form asks if there's a special occasion. There was, it was my wife's birthday, so I selected that from the dropdown thinking maybe it involves a complimentary slice of cake or pie or something. It doesn't. It never even came up. Which is fine but then why even ask? If they'd come out with a fat slice of cake for her this would have been a three star review. If they'd offered to at least partially comp her food this would have been a three star review. If the chef had come out and at least apologized for brutally murdering a perfectly innocent steak this would have been a three star review. If they'd given me literally any reason for a redeeming line in this review, this would have been a three star review. But they didn't. So yeah, no roaches: two stars. Best I can do. I will not recommend this spot to anyone and will not be returning. Longhorn and/or Outback are better and less expensive. At least they (generally) know how to cook a steak and don't just take your meal before you're done. I've frankly had better cooks on my steak at buffet places. Very disappointed. read more

The southern belle was nice, light and easy for a midweek drink with dinner. The bread is hearty and would have been great with soup. The deviled eggs are great!! You could have just had an appetizer with the side salad and be satisfied during a lunch visit, the restaurant made honey mustard was a hit! We both had steaks, I had the rib eye , my husband ordered the filet with lobster tail. Both steak temperatures were good. The ribeye, unfortunately was tough. The lobster tail was delayed, but once it came out, it was beautiful. So why three stars? I had to clean my seat on arrival, the wait staff is hit or miss whether they properly wear their mask and the food delivery timing was way off. I asked for a slice of cake to be delivered as a surprise to my husband... totally overlooked and the ladies at the front marked me as a no show on open table which was annoying since I told them on arrival how I booked my reservation. My sister and I took my daddy out to dinner because we weren't able to spend time with him on Father's Day. It was on a Friday evening, we were able to park right in front and there was no wait at all for a table. He was ecstatic that we chose Chop House because he's accustomed to eating at buffets. I eat here often and love that the food is consistent. I seemed to forget to take a picture of my own plate, but I usually order the chargrilled shrimp and crab cakes. It is an appetizer, but more than enough for anyone that has had bariatric surgery. I also enjoy the Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo. I attended a friend's birthday celebration today 12/18 at the Athens, GA location. We had a nice waitress named Olivia. Despite being extremely busy she did a decent job taking care of us. The only complaint I have is about the manager named Kendall. I'm assuming she was a manager but she had difficulty communicating effectively. Her tone and demeanor is very aggressive and argumentative. That's not acceptable when it is unwarranted. If I had a question about my order and I wasn't being rude, why must I be met in such an abrasive way??? She is not a good representative for the business. I tried the Tuna Appetizer and love everything about it. The flavor profile of the sear on the Tuna with hint of soy and the scallions and cucumbers were just awesome. I didn't try the housemade chips. The deviled eggs were okay. The dill and mustard were too heavy in them for my liking. Miko's horseradish crusted steak was everything to me and I wish I had gotten that. The crust made it and her steak was cooked perfectly. I didn't try either prime rib but they were nice to look at lol The Ribeye I ordered wasn't cooked to the temp I ordered. I asked for medium and it was well. No pink at all and we were eating before getting back in on the road to Virginia, Alabama, and Florida. So I didn't wanna wait for another steak. The onions were okay but since they were cooked with the steak and had the char I was expecting they were uneaten. The rice pilaf was amazing and full of flavor. I loved that. The creamed Spinach would have been amazing had just a little seasoning been added and it was actually hot. It wasn't even warm but I just dealt with that as well due to the time constraints. They have reasonable prices for the portion of food and you can choose from a small or large serving of the entrees, which I like. The food was pretty good here but didn't blow me away. The sweet corn tamale cakes were a good starter and they had fresh avocado and pico de gallo on top. I got the sliced tenderloin Cesar salad for my entree. I asked for medium rare for the steak which was cooked just right. The wait was about 20 minutes which wasn't too bad dir a Saturday night. When I went to go sit down in the booth I had to ask them to wipe it off because there was something sticky on the seat. The waitress was nice and the service was good as well. My steak was cooked perfectly. I came here on a whim. I added the bleu cheese butter. Unfortunately the steak wasn't seasoned that great so I had to do the frowned upon thing and use steak sauce, so embarrassing. I got broccoli as a side and the stalk was still attached so I had to cut the heads of broccoli off myself. The 3 stars are literally for how perfect the steak was cooked and how well the bartender made my drink. I also found out after cashing out that they give baskets of bread, thanks to hearing the lady next to me ask for it. So I tried it and it was pretty good. Only eat the inside though. We started with salad with a delicious home made ranch- great salad. My hubby had the ribeye that was cooked to perfection. Loaded baked potato was great.
