A Cut Above the Monday Blues The Chop House has quickly become a go-to family favorite since my folks moved to Murfreesboro, whether I'm in town visiting or they're dining on their own. The food and service consistently hit the mark, and our latest visit was no exception. I was surprised by how bustling it was for a Monday night--the place was absolutely packed! There was a party of 30 near us, plus a group of 12 right next to our table celebrating a 2-year-old's birthday. It was great seeing everyone having such a special celebration, and despite how busy the team was, we were seated and served in a very reasonable timeframe. My mother made a reservation in advance, and the team graciously accommodated her request for a booth to help with her back issues. They are always wonderfully welcoming to her 5-pound service dog, who sits quietly right beside her. Everyone--from the staff to the fellow diners--was warm and friendly, which makes the whole atmosphere even better. I usually go for the prime rib sandwich, but this time I opted for the full prime rib dinner with soup and a baked potato. It certainly did not disappoint, though it was so generous I couldn't even finish it all. As one of the nicer spots in Murfreesboro, it's a wonderful choice if you're looking to celebrate a special occasion--or just enjoy a top-tier meal. read more

The Chop House has to be one of the best restaurants in town. Nice interior. Great bar. Friendly and accommodating staff. The manager greeted me kindly. The food was perfect and really not even that expensive compared to my home town. I started with a nice Cabernet. I had two in fact. I did not know that Tennessee has an extra tax (LBD - 15%) on alcohol sold by the glass! I thought Republicans were all about low taxes. I also enjoyed an absolutely delicious shrimp bisque. It was really good (and only $6 for a bowl). It was smooth and flavorful. In my neighborhood that would cost $15. My entree was a daily special, yellowfin tuna. It was nicely seared on the outside and sushi grade on the inside. I could really taste the healthy Omega 3's. The fish was served on a nicely flavored bed of long grain rice. A wonderful mango salsa topped the fish. The accompanying broccoli was perfectly steamed. This was only $26. I shall return again to this great place. read more

The hostess, waitress, and food runners were all very nice and attentive. The restaurant itself was clean and decorated just enough without being overpowering. It felt very comfortable and almost elevated. My husband ordered a NY strip steak with mashed potatoes and macaroni & cheese. He ordered his steak blue rare, as that was not an option on the ordering machine. Our waitress kindly said she could make a note for blue rare if possible. We later learned that the kitchen staff had no idea what blue rare was or how to cook it, which is a red flag for a restaurant that is supposed to be a "steakhouse". As you could guess, it didn't come out blue rare or even rare; to be honest, it came out medium rare and with no seasoning. He decided it was fine and he would manage, so he did not mention it, although we definitely did not ask for a box. He added his sides were okay, but overall, the food experience was 3/10. I had a mocktail called "spa day." It was a pineapple mojito without the alcohol, and I love a good pineapple mojito, so I enjoyed it. I also ordered a steak. Filet 6 oz medium and it was cooked fine, but the only seasoning was pepper, and thank goodness I have grown accustomed to pepper; otherwise, I would have had to send it back because it was the only thing on it. I ordered a loaded potato and the apples as my sides, and they were perfect. The apples honestly were probably the best part of the meal, although they did taste like they were from a box. Overall, in my opinion, it is definitely not worth $130, but the waitress was very nice and attentive read more

We had dinner at The Chop House on Sunday with our two kids and had a really good experience. I ordered the steak with a sweet potato and broccoli, and everything was cooked well and flavorful. We finished with the strawberry butter cake, which the four of us shared and really enjoyed. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the service was good throughout our meal. One of my grandparents' favs .... This is like a slightly upgraded Applebee's. It's ok. I haven't tried the namesake (a steak), but I bet they do a good job on them. We came here for Easter brunch with a party of 6. Service is quick, friendly. The menu is one of those where the waiter will ask you one million (2-4) follow-up questions about your sides, how you want it cooked, etc. For a table where nobody really made any substitutions/special requests, it felt like it took forever to order. I had the chicken piccata. It was pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised. I would have prefered it over spaghetti, instead of mashed potatoes, though. And much more acidic, I love the capers and lemon of it all. This is a good spot to bring picky eaters -- good for family. It wouldn't be my choice, but always happy to accompany my grandparents, and the food selection in Murfreesboro is pretty bleak. read more

After debating between 4 or 5 stars, I decided not to chop out that last star. Why? Because their service and food was great. Being an out-of-state visitor, it is so pleasant to see how friendly Tennessee restaurants are. I came here on a Sunday night with my husband for dinner. Although we arrived earlier than our reservation, they were able to seat us right away. The server was very prompt, alert, and friendly. Their food was delicious! I ordered their prime rib (medium rare) with a side of creamed spinach and bowl of potato soup. Everything was superb. Although my prime rib looked red, there was no blood. It was cooked perfectly, with nice chunks of fat. Yum. Also, their complimentary bread was so good! I felt all their food was seasoned perfectly. Would I come back next time I am in town? Absolutely. We had Easter lunch at The Chop House, where our parents live. They're longtime fans for the affordable menu, generous portions, and consistently good service. Our table ordered a variety of dishes, including the Santa Fe salad, pork chop with sweet potato, prime rib sandwich with onion rings, chicken piccata, salmon with broccoli, and the turkey and dressing. Overall, everything was good and came out in a timely manner. A few recommendations: the pork chop and sweet potato, as well as the turkey and dressing, were favorites. The Santa Fe salad was good but not a stand out compared to the rest of the meal. The prime rib sandwich was not a typical French dip, but delicious;while the onion rings looked great but didn't quite deliver on flavor. The broccoli florets, a side item, were unusually large and lightly steamed, making them a bit tough. That said, overall everything was fresh and satisfying. Service was excellent throughout, and the manager even stopped by our table to check in, which we appreciated. A solid, reliable spot, especially for a family meal. read more

If you come here on a Sunday, just call to make a reservation. They are busy and the to-go place on Sunday's. Unless you're ok waiting for a while. It is a decent sized place, super family friendly with kids menus. Our waiter was attentive and got all of our orders's correct. It is definitely on a higher price range but the portion size was worth it. We all had to go boxes by the end. Taste was good and authentic. Parking is shared with all the business in the plaza but it's enough. It can get loud depending how busy it is. I think they might have some backdrops music too. read more

It's maybe difficult to accept but the Chop House has now anchored the corner of Thompson Lane and Medical Center Parkway for so long that it's become a Murfreesboro institution. And like a good friend, it's consistent in all the right ways. Excellent service, comfortable settings. Even on busy weekend nights these basics of a good restaurant are always in place. Competent wine list--not huge--and competent cocktails. Great starters, and generous servings. Mostly a steakhouse but with a well rounded menu. This time we had the chicken piccata (so filling and tasty) and the ribs--truly fall off the bone good. Certainly there are more trendy places in town but for comfort and quality, this place is still hard to beat. read more

We recently opened a shop in Painted Tree Boutiques across the street, we find ourselves in Murfreesboro quite often lately for dinner. We had been here on previous visits, and each experience has been good. Their appetizers are quite good, so we often order one of those and then share something. The service is great there. However, I think the food is on a scale of 1 to 10. Maybe a 7 and 1/2. We went there to meet some friends. It was their recommendation. Like I said everything was fine. I really can't find anything bad to say about it, but it's not a place that I would go out of my way to go back to. That being said, it's not a bad place. The ambiance leaves a little to be desired. This was a great dining experience and my hat goes off to the chef! I was in town visiting from Chicago and wanted a good steak, I ordered the ribeye medium it arrived and the temperature was great seasoned to perfection. This wasn't a 3 but not exactly a 4 this time. Maybe like a 3.5. I go to the Chop House pretty often I would say and normally like it a lot. Now the steak was great but the fettuccine this time looked a little leftover or the sauce looked overcooked. The beans that are usually in it will not be so mooshy but this day it was. All the seafood except for the shrimp in seemed like it was the bottom bits of the of the bag. . Nothing was in whole or chuck pieces except the shrimp. And they have a hurricane on the bar menu! Many places don't offer the drink because it requires passion fruit juice. It was excellent! They brought us some very tasty bread right off the bat. After that came an excellent house salad. For entrees we had prime rib and baby back ribs. Prime rib was perfectly done and the ribs were "fall off the bone" tender. Mashed potatoes were great as well. I got an extra side of creamed spinach, since it is one of my favorite things and I can never resist when it is available. It was perfect. This Chop House here in Murfreesboro is, after this meal, one of my top Go-to places in this area for a great meal! My server Ben was absolutely perfect with my craziness of having him interacting with my open ordering. He chose some amazing dishes. (I choose two items and let my server make the final decision. It adds a nice touch when they participate.) My buffet..... started with nice warm fresh bread and SOFT butter! That little detail makes a big difference to me. Next was my deviled eggs topped with brown sugar bacon and crispy calamari and shrimp appetizers. Cooked perfect. Lots can go wrong with either and even the calamari was super tender. Next up was my blue cheese salad that had just the right amount of fresh ingredients..... Not for my main courses. Dish one was a perfectly cooked and nicely cut medium rare prime rib with very flavorful au jus and a nice loaded baked potato. Super tender and flavorful prime rib!! Dish two was Baked Halibut. This one a nice cut and again cooked just right. Flakey, moist and flavorful! A tough trio it seems in most restaurants! But they did it perfectly. My creamed spinach and corn crème brûlée were very good! I've had them before and that's why I selected them again. No dessert.... I was sooo full. We usually come here for lunch. They have nice lunch deals. It's located in a plaza so it isn't too hard to get a parking. One of my favorite lunch dishes here is the Turkey n dressing. It's hard to find Turkey n dressing around town so it's nice to be able to come here and eat it when I crave for it. I also really like the sweet tea here. It's made perfectly. Service wise, everyone here is usually pretty nice. They can get pretty busy here, but even when they're busy, the service is still pretty good. read more

This was another one of my stops in Murfreesboro. We stopped in for dinner and everything went smoothly. We were sat quickly and given bread and water immediately. The bread was really good and fluffy. The butter complimented it really well. To start, I ordered the Smoked Salmon Dip. It is blended with garlic/black pepper smoked salmon, dill caper sauce, red onion, paprika and comes with shrimp chips. The chips are light, crispy, yet flavorful. That was my first time having them! I also tried the onion rings and the sweet corn tamale cakes. They are really good. They are like a cornbread muffin topped with avocado, pico de gallo, chipotle ranch, cilantro. For dinner , I had the homemade blue crab cakes. They were not my favorite. They had more batter than actual crab meat. I will say the corn crème brûlée was really good! I loved it. Met some friends here for dinner while in town. Great choice! I dove right in and failed to take pics! Sorry! My husband got the Filet Mignon with loaded sweet potato, side salad and Mac n cheese. I ordered the petite pork chops it came with an apple purée that made it delish! My sides were steamed broccoli (sooo good) and mashed potatoes. The steaks were awful, we had a filet and a ribeye, came out poorly cooked, flavorless and obviously cooked on a flat grill. I'm not sure how you dry out a ribeye when you are only cooking it to MR but they managed it. The filet was smashed and cooked to medium well/well. Obviously a serious lack of cooking knowledge. The creamed spinach was salty and disgusting and the baked potato wasn't fully cooked. On a side note the service was good. No problems with that! $93 for half eaten steaks and no sides was incredibly disappointing! read more

One of the best things about this place is that everything on the menu that I've tried is delicious! Service is amazing and we've been well taken care of everytime we go. Although it can get very packed so come with a reservation if you can, esp on weekends! Definitely try the tamale cakes : it is so so good and flavorful. MUST SAY as a person who visits family in the area I like to eat well and be taken care of . That's never a concern here. Planned dinning time and great atmosphere . Isn't that a homey feel we all want. There is a fireplace to make it warm feeling and it's not too warm or cold while awaiting my meal. Food was as I ordered and the people are friendly here to the point I wish that extended beyond the front doors to the people in the city. They all seem to be rude and in a hurry to go nowhere. We had the thick pork chop that was grilled to perfection and the balsamic bluecheese sald was great. We wanted the onion rings as an re start but they ran out. The ceasar steak salad was great and grilled good as well. We took our desserts back to the hotel, as we were too full to eat at table. the keylime pie and choclate moose pie were great. the waitress was very attentive and always ready for refills. My second visit here was a vastly improved experience compared to April. The food was soooo yummy and prepared much better than before. Big shoutout to our waiter Ben who was attentive, prompt and friendly and really took great care of us allowing my husband to challenge him with menu choices. It was a bit more crowded than before but no wait time with our reservation and it was pleasantly not noisy. We started with 2 appetizers, delicious deviled eggs and irresistible (so tender) crispy calamari & shrimp. Both were devoured in minutes. I had the halibut with crème brûlée corn & creamed spinach. All cooked to delicious perfection. My husband had medium rare prime rib, baked potato & house salad. Again, all cooked to delicious perfection. Had a first time visit with my husband to the Chop House last night, and it really exceeded my expectations! I went for dinner around 4p before it got busy, and ordered a dirty martini and salmon dip for an app. The dip was really flavorful, and the chips it came with practically melted in my mouth. For mains, I got the filet mignon done medium with a loaded baked potato and house salad with balsamic vinaigrette and my husband got the prime rib with corn crème brûlée (it was sweet and savory, a unique side item). The salad was nice and fresh. My steak was a bit underdone for medium, but I still ate most of it and got into a philosophical convo with my husband about "maybe this actually is medium but other places were more done for their medium." I actually didn't say anything about it to the server, but she noticed I didn't finish it and said, "That didn't seem quite medium to my liking either so dessert is on us." Wow! Super amazed by the customer service, top notch. For dessert, we got the caramel cookie ice cream, and it was really good.
