When I walk into this place, I feel its nostalgia immediately. It feels like what an old timer's garage would look like. I like to collect old stuff and this really was a cool setting. Stopped here while attending the Lakeland Saturday market. Seated right away. Servers were good. All helped to refill drinks. We got several different burgers and they were good. I got the popper and the cream cheese popper sauce was very good. We also had a blue suede which was good. Super tall with the onion rings. Also had a bandito. Be prepared to shower afterwards as that one is messy. All the burgers were good size and tasty. Fries were average. Inside is fun with lots of memorabilia on the walls. My favorite is the Blue Suede Burger which I ordered earlier today for lunch. A soft bun was filled with a juicy medium rare beef patty, creamy flavorful blue cheese, a large crispy onion ring, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, and tangy pickles. Well, we wanted to like this place as it came recommended by a local but when you find a hair in your burger it makes it really difficult. The chop shop is solid. It's not the worlds best burger but it hits the spot. The bubba (the bacon cheese burger) is a good fallback but I have been getting the B.A.D. Burger (Breakfast All Day Burger) Bacon, ham, egg, and queso. It can be a ton of food but I feel like they have finally found the right amount of meats. The fries are always hot and perfectly seasoned. I would not get the sweet potato "tots" they're basically just chucks of sweet potato. Went to this place on a limb after my original plans got canceled, and I'm so so glad I did! I had the bleu cheese burger with fries. 10/10. We did not have to wait to sit down on a Sunday. They have a pretty good menu for burgers with a lot of different options. They also have quite a few shake options that will fit just about anyone. The chocolate strawberry shake was delicious. We tried the BAD (Breakfast all day) burger and it was cooked perfectly. The bacon each cheese fries were very good as well. I highly recommend starting with that. I was not impressed with the chicken taco salad. The chicken was cut too large and the lettuce was not shredded so it was hard to eat. This place showed in a quick search for a good burger. Took a look and read some reviews and decided to stop. First off it is in downtown Lakeland. A really nice part of the town with some really good sounding restaurants. As we drove down Kentucky we were looking for a hanging sign for CHop Shop but didn't see one. It was mid day on Sunday so not too crowded. Grab a menu, take a seat as you figure out what you want then go to the counter and order. Take a seat with your number and wait for the food. Fast casual. We were starving so it was hard to choose and we ordered too much. We started with fried pickles. They were lightly bread. Just right and tasty! Deb got the Rebel dog special with Chili. Really great flavors. I am not to into have pulled pork on my dogs but the posrk was very flavorful and 2 of these with a bowl of chili was substantial! I ordered the bubba but I think I got the rebel as there was pulled pork on my burger as well. Not too big of a deal as I was looking at both. It was cooked perfectly! So many great flavors and the grilled burger was delicious. As with the dogs I am not a big fan of pulled pork on to of other things but this was good. Overall a really good burger! I ordered the "Bubba Burger" which is a bacon cheeseburger and a then a side of tater tots. I ordered it medium. Anyway long story short it was like eating a hockey puck - overcooked and tough AF. Stop by here for some delicious foods! Every time I go I must get the fried cheese. You only get 4 and they're not your typical cylindrical type stick, but more rectangular patty looking. I wish you got more because they're honestly amazing. I also love getting their buffalo style chicken tenders with friends. The chicken used to be hit or miss, sometimes when chewing it was hard like it was undercooked in a way, but tonight they were perfect. Perhaps after I mentioned this in the past they fixed whatever the problem was in the year I was away. The fries are always amazing, wish they had more seasoning, but that's more a personal preference. It's just so mouth watering it makes me want more. They have beer and liquor, unfortunately they didn't have the liquor I prefer to drink so I just settled for a fountain drink. Inside there is a pool table and cool decor all around. My family and I enjoyed dinner at The Chop Shop after our grand daughter's first dance recital at the nearby Polk Theater. There were 10 of us in our party, so we were a rather large group. We were welcomed in and some tables were rearranged quickly to accommodate all of us. The inside of the restaurant reminded me a bit of a 1950's style dinner. We started off with some Bacon, Sour Cream, and Cheese Potato Skins. They were just okay. My 3 grand daughters thoroughly devoured their Kid's Burger slider meals and especially loved the fries. I was happy to see several designated gluten free items on the menu. My Philly Cheesesteak Skillet was delicious, hot, and filling, served with mozzarella cheese, peppers, and onions. Why 4 stars? Because who knew Lakeland?? --- --- --- Downtown Lakeland... it's a thing! I had no idea, and was fairly shocked at the whole situation. I imagine Lakeland to be pretty back-woods, without any semblance of an actual city. It couldn't be further from the truth. This is a legit downtown, and the Chop Shop is right in the middle of it. Jon H said I should order the Rebel or the Sturgis. It took a lot to decide, but I went with the Rebel. It was a solid choice, but I was so hungry, I think I would have eaten a patty of cat food between two buns. That doesn't take away from the juiciness of this burger though... it was pretty great. Cool vibe in here too. Kinda seems like the 1970's, but with some touches of modern, and lots of TV's all around. If I lived in the 863, I'd be back plenty. When you call ahead after ordering (w/ 20% tip added) assuming great service and share you're on the road to confirm arrival time, and there's no ketchup or napkins for burger & fries, that's a disconnect. Reason = Their regular to-go customers don't want them? Add that first server I talk to is not wearing a mask (wearing one well below your nose is not wearing a mask), food is ok and order is late. Our daughter lives in Kissimmee and we live near Clearwater so we're back / forth a fair bit. Have our fav go-to places but also like to try new ones. Won't be returning to this one. read more
