I had been curious about the Church for some time now because of the unique atmosphere. The vibe of the place definitely lived up to the hype and the cocktails we ordered were pretty good. We also saw some traditional Irish dancing, which was fun. That being said it was VERY busy (hard to find seating) and it was on the pricier side. I would say it's good to see and have a drink at once, but then find a cheaper place. read more

Ok yall. Here's the truth. It's expensive and you're paying for the ambiance. What me and others at tables around me were not aware of is the fact that there's a basement or what they call cellar. It's cute but it's no where as pretty as the main hall. The food was good but not sure if I'd go back considering the chance of going into the basement when I'm paying for the church view more than anything. The manager Darren was so rude! He very aggressively told my friend with low blood sugar that it "wasn't the place to sleep" when she was just resting her head on her hand propped up by her elbow! She was not asleep, she closed her eyes for about two seconds and he ran over to our table almost immediately. He didn't let us explain, he was not friendly at ALL, he came to give us an attitude and left just as quickly. Our server holly was lovely, as was the bartender, but Darren the manager just ruined our evening and genuinely scared us. We schedule a walking tour of the area that met in front of The Church, so we stopped in for dinner, Started with oysters and moved on to Irish Stew and Fish and Chips Staff is very attentive and the food was very good, prices were reasonable. One thing we learned here is that if you want to Tip you waitstaff in Ireland you need to tell then when they bring the credit card machine to your table, prices are inclusive of government taxes, so the price shown on the menu is what you will pay. They have live music on some nights and it can get very crowded and while you do not need to dress up, you can't be dressed down, I saw the doorman, turn away a couple because one of them was wearing sweat pants. The decor isn't the only good thing about this place. Yesterday I finally arrived in Ireland and thus my adventure began. This is my first coming here and just being in the Europe area in general. I just got off an 11 hour flight and my tum tum needed some grub grub. Being from the Bay Area in California, me and my friends are always attracted to really interesting bars. Which is definitely why we felt the need to try this particular place. When we came for lunch yesterday we were sat down right away. I was hunnnngry. Luckily we didn't have to wait long at all for our food after we ordered. I ordered the Irish Burger and was very satisfied with it. I really liked the cohesion of flavors alltogether. My girlfriend was hinting to me that she really wanted me to order it but part of me was worried about the truffle in it. I'm normally not a huge fan of truffle unlike my girlfriend and probably all her friends but I was shocked that it blended perfectly with the bacon and ground meat. No one ingredient over-shined anything else. And despite the burger being cooked at Medium Well, it was still plenty of juicy in every bite. My friend also got the Fish and Chips which was also done very well. Everyone at the table appreciated that there was a very good batter to fish ratio. Oh but lets not forget the chips. The fries were all a perfect golden yellow and perfectly salted. I really want to stress this because I feel like it's probably more normal for countries outside of North America to use less salt in their dishes. I'm cool with that as long as I can still taste the flavors of everything and I definitely did. I will also say that they made the best Whiskey Sour I've had in awhile. I loved the presentation with the toasted orange peel and quadruple flurry of Angostura Hearts on top. I was really blown away by this place because sometimes if you go to a place with really cool decor like this, the food can sometimes be a bit lackluster. But that was not the case for my experience. If the Church is a taste of what to expect for the cuisine in Ireland, then I can't wait to explore other spots with good food! read more

It was my last night in Dublin and I remember in my research of places to eat, that this restaurant popped up on my horizon so I pinned it in my list of places and didn't realize how close it was to my hotel. So glad I made it here. Immediately as I walked in I was greeted by a host and quickly sat to a table. As one walks in you can't help but to look at everything inside. From the ceiling, the organ, the stained glass windows and the rest of the warm decor, it's hard to believe that it's a restaurant. It was dinner time and the place is busy but I was able to get my drink and food order in with no long wait time. I ordered wings since I was in the mood for them and it went well with my beer. The wings were nice, crisp and juicy as they should be. The wait staff here are really friendly. If you're ever in Dublin, definitely come have a meal here, it's not too far from the temple bar district. The ambiance & service is amazing, I hope you enjoy your experience here when you visit. We started with The Church Chicken Wings, and then I ordered the 8oz Prime Irish Beef Burger. The chicken wings were pretty good, and the burger was okay. The fries weren't that great. This is one of those places you mainly go to for the atmosphere, and for the atmosphere alone it's worth it. I recommend making reservations in advance. They make a big deal on their website about not dressing too casually, but they're not consistent about enforcing it. There were people with tennis shoes and shorts in there. The atmosphere and decor were very nice. The downstairs was cool on a hot day. Service was good and friendly but the food was so, so. Having spent a month driving around Ireland and eating a lot of fish and chips and mussels I feel the country knows how to make those two items very well. The fish was greasy and flavorless and the mussels had too much cream, not enough garlic or seasoning so were also bland. The food was hot and the beer was cool. I would recommend for drinks and music but not to eat. They also had a nice outside area and looked to be expanding it. Price was on par with other places. read more

Service was outstanding by the team that took care of us. The food was fresh and very tasty. The ambiance was very cool. Love the way the space is used. My only negative is the tables are very close together. Being 6'4", this posed a bit of a problem in feeling comfortable during our time at Th Church. I'm sorry I didn't take more pictures of the food. We did try quite a bit. As far as the appetizers, the mussels were delicious! The fried calamari were so tender and also delicious. The shrimp appetizer was ok. The nachos were not like typical nachos that we get in the US, but we're ok. The drinks were well made and they had a good cocktail menu. Everyone enjoyed what they had. The feta and orange salad was really good. They don't drown the greens in dressings, so you get to enjoy the salad for the flavor of the greens. As far as entrees, I had the Sunday roast dinner. The beef was well done which is more than I would prefer it. You don't really have a choice when ordering it though. The stuffing was really good. The mash potatoes and roasted root veggies were pretty standard. The atmosphere was nice. They had two musicians playing and intermittently had traditional Irish dancers that would perform. Had an unfortunate experience here :/ first let me mention, our server, Holly, was amazing. She was very kind and gave great service. Our issue lies with the manager, Darren. As a table of five, we were talking, laughing, and having a great time. I have a low blood sugar problem, so I was resting my head in my hand with my eyes closed while we waited for our food to arrive. I was not lying on the table, clearly not asleep, just resting my head in my hand propped up on my elbow because of my low blood sugar. Darren, the manager, came up to our table and very rudely and aggressively addressed my table saying, "Is she sleeping? That's not the place for this." And immediately walked away, giving no explanation and leaving no time for us to tell him I wasn't sleeping at all. My friend has been so excited to show us the place and it's very unfortunate that Darren hurt our experience here. I stopped by the Church on my last vacation day as I read it was a must see in Dublin. It is quite a spectacular to see this place inside. It's a grand venue and it has an elegance to it too. I would come here again for drinks and some socializing any day. However, we decided to grab some dinner and ordered 3 items on the menu which didn't impress my sight or appetite. This was an interesting place to visit while I was in Dublin. With friends and family we had to get something to eat. Right down the block was The Church. It already had a crowd when we went in. Take one step and you are now in the Church itself. This has been converted years ago and is a place where you can get a meal, have a beer from the home made beer there, and even listen to a mix of Irish music while you eat. The chapel is amazing. But with the crowd we ate outside. The menus are perfect. There is a good variety at a great price. We started with cocktails and a few brews as we decided. There was a little of everything. I stuck with my fish and chips and could not go wrong. We selected a little of everything and it was ideal. It came out at the same time. No problem with that. Even when we finished we had some tea or coffee. And we could not forget a dessert. This was a good way to finish the dinner. The crowd was big. The service was perfect. The price was right. If you can't have fun here you likely can't have fun anywhere. Beautiful surroundings with the church organ and the gorgeous stained glass windows, and of course a bar right in the middle. Festive and busy when we walked in at 6:30 on a Wednesday night. Drinks are delicious- the signature martini is Devine. Dinner was good- yes a little like most of the other restaurants in the area, but tasty and very generous portion sizes. The only meal that wasn't great was the nachos, but shame on my dinner mate for ordering nachos in Ireland. Live music that wasn't too loud so we could still visit, and the dancers were fantastic. Of course it is touristy but I would not pass it up. A little pricey but we won't forget this evening so it was worth it. read more

We had a lovely experience here for the most part. The food was very good. We got two orders of the Fish and Chips and one order of the coconut curry with chicken. The Curry actually was the star of the show! Very flavorful and hearty portions. The service though was incredibly slow. We waited well over an hour after ordering to receive our food. Our waiter was very not present and we had to hunt them down to ask about the food since they came around the table so infrequently. Otherwise we loved the atmosphere, the live music, and even some traditional Irish dancing! The interior is gorgeous since this location is an old renovated church. We had such a great time at The Church after just arriving to Dublin. The space is beautiful, and the bar in the center is amazing! Oh, and don't forget the organ - wow! - Guinness & Plum Glazed Baby Back Ribs: these were delicious! I ordered the smaller version as my meal, and it was plentiful. They were sticky and sweet, but I think too many would be overwhelming. - Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger: this was pretty good, although I enjoyed the ribs more. The buffalo mayo was a nice addition, and the aioli was delicious. We were also treated to some traditional Irish music and dancing.
