Ambiance, charm, and history..,wonderful! We came on our first visit to Dublin...loved it!!

We tried to eat here for several days in a row before they were finally open. They did NOT take reservations so we ended up eating lunch there instead of supper. The place is gorgeous!!!! Make sure you take a trip to the bathroom! The winding stairs are worth the trip! We were there long enough for the sun to set so we got to see the interior with natural light and their soft glow of Christmas lights! Daniella (amazing Lady originally from Venezuela) was amazing! She took care of every detail! A very classy Lady! Be sure to ask to sit in her area!!!! We decided to split a few things. We ordered the Feta Cheese & Orange Salad-super flavorful!!!! It is not a super large salad so it is perfect for lunch! We then ordered the Parmesan Cheese & Garlic Roasted Potatoes-came super hot and full of flavor!!! Also, Chicken Wings with Buffalo Sauce-super yummy sweet & spicy flavor!!! For dessert we ordered the chocolate sundae-it is made with soft serve vanilla ice cream and a boat load of chocolate fudge sauce and these little malted chocolate balls surprising you with almost every bite! This dessert is perfect to split!!!! It is super rich!!!! We also ordered a bottle of German Riesling! Because we sat there for so long, we were able to sip on our bottle! Absolute scam of a place. I made, and paid for, a dinner reservation for a table on the gallery so we could see the music and dancing. When we arrived, they escorted us to a table, but in the BASEMENT. Completely unable to see or hear either music or dancing. No apologies, no explanation. We walked out. I'm not sure how this place has so many bad reviews, I found it to be wonderful and I very much enjoyed it. Seems like many people don't have the wherewithal to make a reservation, that's not the restaurants fault. The atmosphere here is second to none and there was live Irish music and dancing at the front of the church. I got the traditional lamb stew and it was solid, nothing spectacular but not bad. I sat at the bar and watched the music for a couple of Guinesses. I would say plan ahead if you want to come here in the evenings and try to make it while they have live performances. The food was subpar and the service was nonexistent. Thank goodness for the beautiful building and the great live music to save our experience in the slightest. But honestly, it wasn't enough to not regret the visit. We were a party of 4 and were seated in the back near the Gallery. It was a nice view of the bar and the window and we could clearly hear the band. The woman who greeted us when we were seated was a different woman than took our order and then another person delivered our food, so it was confusing who was actually our waitress. This made the whole rest of the meal confusing when we needed attention! And we needed to ask for attention every time: to place drink orders, to get dessert, to get the check. We sat without service for over an hour and a half. In the end I had to have the rest of my party get up and head to the door while desperately tried to get someone to take my money. We paid over €200 for the following: 1 round of drinks- an old fashion, a Bloody Mary (very sad, just tomato juice and a half shot of vodka- we added lemon juice, vinegar, salt and pepper to give it some flavor), and 2 spritzers (very good); Calamari starter (small dish and tasty, not much for sharing); Beef Burger (honestly great), fish & chips (pretty standard, good), 2 chicken supreme (BUT they were actually out), so we had to choose something else and we got the Cajun Chicken Wings (not cajun at all!) and the daily special- seafood stir-fry (a joke. It was 5 pieces of seafood over over cooked spaghetti noodles with bottled sweet chili sauce). Then once we finally waved a server down 45mins after being served dinner we order a 2nd round of drinks- a Church Martini and 3 Peachy Blinders (all delicious, but the peachy was 90% ice). The worst part was waiting to get the bill. The restaurant was obviously closing, we've been finished with our meal for like half an hour, they come to clear the plates and asked about dessert which we declined... then they don't come back to let us pay for another 30mins. This whole experience should have taken about an hr and a half... we were here nearly 3. It's a shame since it came highly recommended and for the cost... I would never send people here. read more

We walked in around 6:30 without a reservation and were immediately seated in the Cellar. We really wanted to enjoy the live music and dancing, but couldn't since we weren't in the main dining area. Definitely make reservations in advance, we weren't able to make them same day! Still, we were happy to be seated immediately. Our food and drinks were good, but nothing to write home about. The staff seemed pretty slammed and we actually got our food before out. Took a minute for us to get our check when we finished but I'd rather have time than be rushed out! If you can plan ahead with a reservation and get a seat with the live music, you'll enjoy yourself. If not, you'll still enjoy yourself, but it's an just a meal with good drinks and decent ambiance. read more

Unique twist on a traditional pub. Live entertainment when we arrived, which consisted of a fiddler and guitarist, singing Irish tunes and playing their craft. To our surprise, two lovely Irish dancers popped up on stage to kick up their heels in tune with the band! We were set up in the gallery with upper floor viewing into the downstairs shenanigans. It's a bit expensive but it's cool. Go for a drink and maybe eat elsewhere unless you've money to burn. I enjoyed my half pint but I think it was around 4 euros. That's a lot of cash for a half. But again, cool building You're paying for the building. read more

The Church is an old church that has been converted into a bar and restaurant. I'm not sure how much of it is original, but it really is a gorgeous and expansive place with stained glass windows and an organ pipes. The vibe is a little confusing. Here you have this beautiful and charming church, but the LED lighting and DJ playing loud music make it feel more like a nightclub. We had reservations at another place, so the plan was to pop in for 30 minutes or so. First the staff questioned our age, which I guess is either flattering or offensive, depending how you look at it. We are all 30+ and the drinking age is 18! They seemed to take us at our word and didn't actually card us. There were plenty of open tables available, so we asked to be seated. Some of us didn't want to order anything, and they did not like that at all. I get it - it can be a little rude to sit down with a group where not everyone orders something - but it's not like there was a line out the door of people waiting for table service. One friend ordered chips, and the staff flat out refused to serve him. The server said something really vague about how they couldn't serve us the chips??!! We literally walked past other customers eating chips and our friend, who has been to The Church, politely protested that he has never had an issue ordering chips before. It was clear that they were trying to force us out by not serving us. We felt very mistreated and were happy to leave chipless. We had a one star experience in a very pretty venue (hence 2 stars). Head over to The Bank for equally impressive scenery with much better service. read more

A great place with a warning. I recommend this place for a drink. Pop in, enjoy the wonderful ridiculousness of literally drinking in a church whose pews have been converted into a serving station. But don't eat here. The prices are very high for very limited options, and if you look to reduce your price a bit by sharing a place etc the staff will be relentlessly rude to you. I don't think there's an excuse for treating people as badly as the staff treated us, so the best way to save your money here is to skip it and let staff keep that attitude to themselves. But definitely a fun place for 1 drink. read more

The Church is the place to go in Dublin if you want to be blessed by the god of food and drink! Just walking into this restaurant and bar, set in an old church, complete with pipe organ, is a holy experience. We focused on the seafood starters and shared the mussels, oysters, and fried calamari! Favorite restaurant I went to in Dublin! The atmosphere was wonderful, the service was great, and the food was tasty. Make sure to go on a night they have live music and Irish Dancers. The musicians played the entire time and the dancers came on about every half hour. The restaurant used to be a church. I recommend to request to be seated in the old choir loft. We had a great view of the restaurant, musicians, and dancers. They had an expansive drink menu as well as food options. I ordered the chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed this place. It is located in a historic church and it is beautifully renovated. I enjoyed the food. The service was good, but not that quick....which is fine because it's such a lovely environment. We were told that there would be Irish entertainment that night, but they cancelled it due to the holiday time period. If we had known, we would have scheduled our dinner another night. This was on my food list for Dublin for my trip with my friends. And honestly, I'm insanely disappointed. Let's start with the good: Of course, the inside is super cool and spacious. It used to be a church now transformed into a bar/restaurant. They have live entertainment that makes tourists feel immersed with the culture. The bad: We never got our food. 3 people out of our party of 5 already placed our food order while the other 2 told the waitress that they were still deciding. The waitress said she couldn't do that but once the other 2 knew what they wanted then she can put in the order. Ok, that's fine, no problem. So she comes back, the other 2 friends tell her what they want and that's that. Their food comes first, we waited for a few minutes and saw on the receipt that our order was never put in. So I go up to the waitress and ask for our orders or if she could atleast put them in. She said there was a miscommunication and for whatever reason thought that the 3 orginal orders were cancelled, and that the party of 5 would all split ONE dish. Im sorry, what? That makes no sense. Im 99% she forgot and was doing some damage control but??? She was nice but had no urgency whatsoever. 20 mins roll by, still no food, and my friends and I have a train to catch (and hadnt ate since 9am, mind you). She tells us that she needs to ask the kitchen how long it'll be. She then ended up coming up to us saying how her manager canceled the order and we could go. Listen, I work in food service too,.I get it but if you're the one that forgot to put in the order (or even if you didnt) you make sure to give the customers their food ASAP since they were already waiting in the first place! Walking around Dublin, this was definitely a really good place to eat! A couple of friends and I came here to take a couple of shots. This is where I discovered .... The Lemon Drop. They serve it with a slice of lemon sprinkled with sugar on the side & their drinks are all strong! The server was very attentive & made sure to take care of us during our visit. There is also an elevator that takes you to the second floor for special occasions. The menu selection was great; a lot of American/Traditional dishes. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Great service, amazing space and love the live entertainment. Food, for the most part, was quite good. Ribs were less than exciting. Clearly the cooking style was to par boil then sear and sauce. My wife and I loved this pub! It was huge with lots of seating and lots of wait staff. Loved the live Irish music and dancing in the evening. Nice that reservations can be made online. My wife got the Isiah Angus steak which was delicious! She also got the Church Martini which was very flavorful. I got the Carrot and Coriander soup which was probably the cheapest thing on the menu at €6.95. I also got the Guinness and Plum Ribs which were pretty good. The place is awesome! It's a converted from a real Church and the place where Arthur Guinness got married when it was still a church. I liked how they kept the original decorations, so you can still see that it was a church. We first came on a Friday morning as part of the walking tour at 11 am and there were no customers. Today, we came back for lunch and it is completely full. On to the food. The prices are pricy for pub food.€13 for a Guinness beef stew is steep. The stew came less than 5 minutes after we ordered it. It was lukewarm and was an unappetizing blackish color. The first bite, the beef wasn't as tender as it should be, but the flavor is good. Nothing special. The Thai green curry chicken is more like yellow coconut curry. The chicken is dry and the worst is that they used the wrong type of rice. It's a long grain rice, which gave the dish a wrong crunchy texture. It's supposed to be served with jasmine rice that is fluffier and creamier. Come for the special location and grab a drink.
