Before the main event I perused the menu with the manager telling me how good the food is. I ordered a steak. It was over cooked and the meat tasted as though it was spoiling. So the food is terrible. That's one thing. The second thing One of the patrons who knew the band, on her own volition went downstairs to the local bowling alley saying that everyone should come check out the band later. Well, the staff at the bowling complained to the manager of the Duck. He didn't like that too much, so as the band is setting up an argument ensued between the patron and the bar manager. He points at us and demands that we pack up our stuff and leave because she went downstairs to promote the band, claiming it was "illegal" and that "we" sent her down there. I've never heard such BS in my life. Was he afraid of the business?? And secondly, it's called free enterprise there's nothing illegal about it. Needless to say, for a venue that doesn't advertise their bands, pays next to nothing, they were actually blessed to have such high caliber musicians coming to share their music with. Their PA system was totally mangled, and they didn't have the stage cleared for us. On top of it, they accused us of stealing their mic stands that were literally taped together- thanks but no thanks! We all invest heavily in our own equipment for a reason! To sum it up: I am boycotting this venue and I recommend all musicians do the same.

Atmosphere was a typical pub ambiance. Really not remarkable. I liked though that the music wasn't blaring and I could have a conversation. Server was friendly and helpful. Food was quick to come out. We both loved the calamari. They were thick pieces that were well seasoned. Definately need to order this again. Broccoli was perhaps a bit underdone, but flavour was good. When the crab came out it looked a little skimpy in terms of potatoes and the other shellfish. However with the appies we were filled up well. Crab was tasty and well boiled. Potatoes were okay and the few mussels and clanms on the bottom. I would come back here for that still. All in all a good meal.

Didnt want to wait all nite to sing, so asked DJ why. Was informed that new people were put into rotation in middle of lineup instead of the end? -didnt make sense, especially as I was at beginning of rotation not middle. I eventually gave up and went home. This is not the first time this has happened at other karaoke events. Why do hosts mess up rotation like this and make people who get there early miss out for people who get there late? Everyone has to wait their turn just like we did. Why dont they get added to the end of the line? I watched myself go from #12 at one point and bumpd continuously, after 5 songs was down to # 14. Will not be back!

A good dive bar, centrally located…read more The night we were there, it was a metal night. Lots of pretty, shaggy-haired eye candy for the ladies to admire, and all the bands were great. Nice and tight musicianship and good stage presence. The audience all seemed to know each other-- big fans there for the final show of their friends. Some of the women were a bit...shall we say...long in the tooth, intent on imagining themselves as they were in their 20s. However, 30-something years of chain smoking and frying their hair with fake blonde (turning it to straw), has aged them considerably. Wearing outfits cut down to there to make up for that. So if you're a dude of a certain age, you'll probably get lucky if you want. Depends on your tastes. The bartender and cocktail waitress were practically surly. The bathrooms were tiny and a little ramshackle. $15 cover charge. Can't judge the food because I just had beer, but at least I didn't have to have cash and could use a debit card for a tab, so that was good.

They were having a Jaegermeister demo while we were there, but I am not fond of cough syrup, even when I'm sick, so I eschewed the freebies. Bonus points for hearing "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers and "Reptile" by The Church on the same night. I was in heaven.

The perfect server. The manager, David, is really great. Friendly and super welcoming, considering I'd only been once before. I noticed that he was attempting to change out the sandwich board for the band, so asked if I could help (ex art major, with a lot of typography experience). He was happy to let me. So that was fun. :) I had a couple beers and the Italian sausage flatbread pizza. OMG! SO good! And the prices were perfectly respectable. Definitely planning to make this place a regular stop on my relaxing/drinking/socializing rounds now.
