Nice little hotel in the middle of Waukesha. The room was reasonable, clean and very large. The bath had a large rain show along with a huge tub. There was a wet bar along with a keurig. The rooms are located over a nice Irish bar as an added bonus. Could have asked for much else. The only drawback is that parking is offsite but right around the corner. read more

We did a getaway weekend and stayed at the Clark hotel for two nights in July. The room we stayed in was really nice. Had a really large bathroom with a really nice shower and the room had a lot of space. The bed was pretty comfortable. The room was pretty clean, but the downside is we stayed on the third floor and you elevator goes up to the second floor only this is where you check in then you have to walk upstairs to get to the third floor. I'm getting a little older to be dragging my luggage upstairs. Also, the other downsize is the parking is offsite a couple blocks away in a public parking garage so you have to walk back-and-forth which ain't the end of the world but if it was winter time it wouldn't be good. it does cost I think around 3.50 a day to park in the garage which ain't that bad. They do give you two $10 vouchers for breakfast at a restaurant which is a couple stores down which was nice since the restaurant in the hotel was closed. I tried to get two more vouchers for the second day we were there, but the lady behind the desk was kind of rude and said she would go broke if she handed out that many vouchers. if we stayed in the area again, I think we would try a different hotel just because of the parking situation and going up the stairs. I'm glad we stayed there once the hotel is in an old building which is pretty cool.! read more

We stayed at the Clark Hotel this past weekend (March 2024) and there were TEN windows in our room that faced three sides. For being on a 5-corner street, there was minimal if any noise from the street! The room (room 205) was quite large, clean and the bedding was comfortable. Booked a room through Orbitz, a full month in advance. Got a confirmation email. Contacted them 3-4 times regarding parking, exercise facilities, local vegan restaurants, and check in times. They had our info and recognized our reservation, and helped us plan. I had even asked about getting a better room. We arrived in Waukesha on Saturday July 27th, early, and called them asking if we could check in early. This was after an 7 hour drive. Heather said they have issues with 3rd party reservations and didn't have our room, and were fully booked! (again I confirmed it 2 days ago). I contacted orbitz and they said the Clarke claimed they had an improper email from them (not me, orbitz) and they were fully booked. Orbitz had an email from the Clarke confirming reservation. BS If they didn't have our reservation why did they converse with me regarding my reservation!!! Milwaukee is booked for the weekend, everywhere! EAA, airshow on lakefront, German fest, beer fest, Dousman, etc. I guess our 129 a night was easy to resell, without relying on a booking site ( and blaming them) I filed a complaint with Orbitz (the Clarke did nothing to accommodate us) hopefully they'll be removed from the site BOO! read more

I decided to stop in this hotel and check it out to rent a block of rooms for my daughter's wedding. There wasn't a front desk, but a sign that indicates to "check in" at the bar...I've never seen this before in my life. It's got the Irish flair and a nice location so we were excited. My family and I decided to have a seat and were thinking about asking the manager to show us a room and other details of the hotel. After a few minutes an employee came out of the bar and very abrasively asked us "if we were just going to be sitting there" and aggressively closed a door near where we were sitting as if we were "riff raff" - which apparently it was the office (looked like a storage closet). He then rudely turned around and walked away. We never got a chance to ask him about the hotel and after that experience I actually lost my interest and left. We will find a more friendly and suitable hotel for the wedding, and will give the substantial business we would have provided to an establishment that will treat our guests with respect. read more

Really enjoyed this hotel. Arrived after hours, and called the number they provided. Josh was down quickly and got me checked in. Room was clean, bathrooms were nice. Irish pub downstairs was great, David was tending bar and had a good time chatting with him as well. Certainly wasn't your typical hotel, but was a quaint, fun establishment with a friendly staff. I booked another room there in July when I'll be back in the area for business. Look forward to visiting again. read more

As soon as i walked into my room I thought there was some sort of mix up. The room was huge! But I double checked my receipt and yep, only $100 a night. Wow! My room had lots of windows, a GREAT bed, which I will come back to later, and the bathroom.. well the bathroom deserves it's own separate review. I had a King size bed, and it was marvelous. All white bedding,and lots of pillows just the way I like it. The bathroom - well I walked in and thought that the bathroom would need it's own receipt - like my room, it was huge! Complete with a jetted tub and a shower, with 5 shower heads, yes, F-I-V-E. Did I mention $100 a night. Hello.. Best deal ever.. or maybe I have just been in Atlanta too long. The breakfast was less than desirable, but right across the street is a little breakfast spot, Dave's. Check my review for that. But I'd recommend skipping the Clarke breakfast and heading straight to Dave's. There is a restuarant/bar in the Clarke - D'Mos. From my understanding it has been changing names and chefs for a while.. so I don't know how stable it is. But I actually did have a business dinner here one night. There are several places within walking distance and I thought it was a great location. The staff were all very friendly and there wasn't much noise. I really enjoyed my stay at the Clarke and would no doubt stay here again. read more

This is one of those "boutique" hotels where the pictures on the internet / web are far nicer than what it actually is. They talk about a relaxing place for work however my room had a desk from the 1930s and there was barely enough space between the desk and the bed to sit. The chairs look like they were purchased at a flea market and there were little things needing maintenance (the fold out thing where you put your luggage on had a strap broken) The room was large and it had a massive bathroom - I guess if I was grading hotels based on bathrooms this would be great however it is not something which drives my happiness. I will say it is nice to take a shower in the Kohler multi jet shower but again, those are the things which are "cream on the top" of a great room - they should not BE THE ROOM. The bed was extremely nice and comfortable. It was summer so I had no need of a down comforter but I can see how that would be nice in the winter. Even using hot-wire to book the room, I thought it was very pricey for the location and the "quality". Oh, and did I mention there really is no parking so getting to the hotel was very confusing. I found it odd that in the middle of the day I had to ring a buzzer to get let in - usually an indication of a bad neighborhood and bad location. If I happened to be in town I might stay here however I would not go out of my way. The experience was NOTHING like what they projected on the internet. I travel a lot for business and I try to stay at these local / boutique hotels so I know the risk I am taking. However this one needs a lot of tender loving care and attention to detail to get a "restay" rating in my mind. read more

I was looking for a hotel to stay around my parents' house. Never heard of this hotel, but sure am glad I gave it a try. It truly gave me a pleasant surprise. I booked it online from priceline.com for $104 per night. When I got here, they gave me a discount and brought it down to $186 for two nights!! The room was definitely worth 5 stars. Brand new. Very comfortable, chic and clean. Kind of small but will do. It has an amazing bathroom. I mean a huge bathroom, huge tub, a big walk in glass door shower with those cool four shower heads that come from the side wall. It was the best shower I've ever had. The receptionist was extremely polite and helpful. Valet was only $5!!! Coming from LA, it's a great deal. I only gave it 4 stars because the area is rather quiet the night we checked in so that kind of worried us a little. But really I'd totally recommend this 5 star accommodation and service hotel with an almost motel price. What's interesting about this hotel is it's built and renovated from an historical 1800's building where druggies hung out to such a chic and nice hotel. read more

The rooms were so nice and big, and the showers awesome! Our room however had a really hard time regulating temperature and it was super hot at night even though the fan NEVER STOPPED RUNNING. They was also either all night partying, or roadwork that started at 6:30 (only to end at 9) so it was louder. The rooms were great but probably not the best night sleep I've ever gotten. Came here for a full-day work meeting. I'd never in my life stay here. It's dark, damp, and musty, feels like there's mold growing behind the walls or something. The employees I interacted with were friendly but every time I saw them they were standing around the dining area not doing anything. The room we used for our meeting had spider webs everywhere and the wifi code they gave us did not work. Also, let me overstate how dark it was. We arrived at 9 a.m. but you could've sworn it was 9 p.m. with how dark the room was when it was fully lit and there were no windows to let natural light in. The women's restroom in the downstairs area, where the meeting rooms are located, was out of service so I had to walk all the way to the opposite side of the hotel to use the bathroom. It just doesn't seem like making this place presentable and a comfortable place to visit is a priority here. read more

I was attracted for the jetted bathtub it says online. But it was not the thing in the picture. It's just a normal jetted bathtub. But then hotel is full of historical scent. To be honest it was a bit scary when I drive there at night. You have to park all the way back at other place of the hotel. And few people walking down on the street. But the room is quiet comfy. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at The Clarke Hotel. I found the hotel on Orbitz (they just discontinued their account) so the website said "no rooms available". I decided to call and double check, and I'm glad I did. Dave at the desk was very helpful. The hotel certianly comes with its quirks.. but hey, its all part of the experience! Parking can be a bit of a struggle. Luckily we were staying Saturday to Sunday. We were able to park out front (normally 2hr parking exluding Sun & Holidays). There is a municiple lot somewhere close.. but we never found it. The beds are SO COMFORTABLE! We even took the sheets off to find out what brand/make so we can buy one. The bedding was comfy too.. the pillows however.. were not. They were very dense and thick. I could not use them. The shower and tub were delightful. Tub is slightly small. You can fit two people, very snug. Better suited for one person occupancy. Upon arrival, you have to "buzz in" with the intercom to the front desk located on the second floor. There is an elevator to the second floor, but not to the third floor. After navigating some pretty but slightly confusing halways we found a staircase to the third floor. The temperature was set at 75 degrees... to hot for my liking, especially in August. We adjusted the thermostat to overide, but no success. Woke up to 76 degrees. Room was a bit expensive for the experience.. but overal it was an enjoyable stay. read more

Stopped in for a point and a bite to eat with some friends. The staff was very friendly, the bar is beautiful, and the food is delicious. I had the Shepard's Pie $12.95. The meat was shredded beef, the gravy was not out of a can and the potatoes were creamy. It is a hotel bar and was almost too clean. With an old time charm, this hotel is one to impress. Newly remodeled rooms are clean and modern. The pillows are new, sheets are new and crisp white. Mattress is comfortable! Very clean rooms! Proceed with caution. I have lived in many major downtown cities, there is nothing LOUDER than downtown Waukesha. Who knew? I was awoken at 3:30 am by city dump trucks slamming dumpsters and trash cans to the ground which sounded like bombs exploding. Oh and hearing the back up horn for at least an hour's time. 3:30am-4:30am. Who manages this town?? Clearly no one who gives 1 ioda to the guest experience at the Clarke hotel. I have never had a worse time at a hotel. They were under staffed and messed up our rooms. My mom who is in a wheelchair and is not able to walk up stairs was put on the third floor with stairs access only. Then they change her to another room on the second floor that also had stairs. It wasn't till I argued with the staff after that they had an appropriate room for her. But then they wanted to charge me more for it being a double suit. The Clarke hotel is a truly beautiful little gem in the heart of downtown Waukesha. From the front lobby bar to the front desk -- and even the elevator in between -- each is immaculately designed. A lot of time, effort, and money has gone into creating the ambiance of a unique hotel. On the other hand, when it comes to simply measuring up to the stay at any common motel, it falls short. Our stay was only for a single night, slipping in and out of town for a local wedding that was conveniently up the street. We called a few weeks ahead of time to make sure we could check in early. When we arrived, we inquired at around 7:30am, and were told it was too early -- which we totally understood -- and to come back a little later. When we came back at 11am, we were told that there would be no way to check in early because we hadn't let them know we wanted an early check-in -- even though we both called weeks earlier when we made our reservation and we had been there earlier this same day to tell this very same person we wanted to check in early. We finally got checked in, and signed a non-smoking hotel agreement stating it would be a $500 fine for smoking in the room, which was fine since neither of us smoke. Of course when we got to our room, it reeked of smoke, and never went away for the day we were there. The AC was locked into 67o, and wouldn't accept changes, so it was bone chilling. Since we were in a rush, we were looking forward to the various amenities that were listed in the folder of information we were given at checkin, which included lotions, sewing kits, bath soaps, .... all the standard things you expect to find in any hotel bathroom. The reality was that there was one bar of hand soap in the bathroom sink which we had to share between the shower and the sink. There was also shampoo and conditioner, but no other expendables. We would have normally been inclined to ask for them, but since we were not able to check in early, we were in much more of a rush than we had planned and simply didn't have time -- not that we should have needed to anyway. The bed was actually fantastic, but between the unreasonably cold air conditioning and the smell of smoke, made it difficult to sleep. My girlfriend literally got nose bleeds from the smoke and cold air, and when we turned the AC off it became too hot to sleep comfortably. We simply had to turn it on and off at various points of the night to get some sleep in the transitional moments of temperature change. Overall it was not worth the price to spend the night. We were looking for comfort and pampering during an extremely hectic weekend, and the Clarke Hotel only contributed to the stress and anxiety of being rushed and uncomfortable. read more

What ever you do do NOT stay here. The hotel is overpriced and they provide a subpar level of service that leaves a lot to be desired. We stayed here on a whim and I am regretting it! We ate at the restaurant and the food was average at best despite the high prices. I would recommend Peoples Park or it would even be worth going a little further to somewhere on blue mound rd. as far as food goes. As for the room I was charged a smoking fee although neither me nor anyone in my room smoked inside the premises. We did however smoke outside of the building which the owner claimed was enough to make the room smell like smoke (which it did not) however he charged me anyways. I tried to reason with him, asking him to talk to the night supervisor who could have confirmed we were in and out of the building smoking out front many times. I explained that there was myself and 5 other people who could verify there had not been any smoking in the room, however he apparently had better things to do and proceeded to hang up on me. This is not how you should treat patrons, obviously this hotel is just trying to squeeze every last penny out of people. I will not be returning! read more

I book this hotel because it offered whirlpool tubs. I love me some whirlpool bathtubs and the historical fact sold me right away. I booked my room online. I'll make it short and sweet. They didn't tell me when I arrived that I was getting a different room. When I got to the room. no whirlpool tub. So I called and said that I booked the specific room. All I got was " well, I don't have that and we are full". No - I'm so sorry Miss or I apologize for the inconvenience... Just a no. I asked to speak to the manager ... who conveniently was not in when i called. We also walked down to the front desk to get some assistance with dinner. The front desk looked like we were asking for one million dollars and proceeded to point us to the sports bar around the corner as the restaurant at the hotel has closed. That proved to be a disaster of a dinner. I would have expected a boutique hotel to have knowledge of the nice restaurants in the area or even point our the best within driving distance. If you are looking for a fancy boutique hotel that will pamper you as a guest this is not the place. I will say that they have nice bedding on the beds and that made me happy but it was very loud at night and I used earplugs to sleep. If you like the historical type hotel then you might like The Clarke. Upon arriving there is no dedicated hotel parking. You either find your own parking on the street or you can valet for $7.00 a night. The front entrance looks more like a back entrance or side door. I pulled into the loading zone/valet spot but there is no valet person waiting. The doors are locked and you have to buzz the front desk to get let in. Once you enter it's just an empty hallway with a sign that says to take the elevator to the second floor. I was hesitant to leave my car in the loading zone but took the elevator up to the second floor. The front desk is on the second floor. I told them I needed my car valet'd and she said she would take care of it. She put me in a room on the second floor, but before handing me the keys she said she's going to make sure the room is ready and I heard her walk down the hallway and disappeared into the room for about 30 seconds. I found this strange. I've never had a clerk enter my room first like that. I thought perhaps this is the way they do things here. She gave me the rooms keys and before I left I asked her about my car. She said they will take care of it. It just so happened my room had a view of the loading zone where I could see my car was still in the same spot I left it. It was not moved for about two hours. I called the clerk to remind them in case they had forgotten to valet my car. I didn't want it to get towed. She said she would be the one that would valet the car once the rest of the scheduled guests checked in. I found it weird that a boutique hotel would have only one clerk on shift at a time that looks after the front desk and also the valet? When I first entered the room, I felt that the room was not freshly cleaned. I was immediatly curious at why the clerk was in here for so long. The first give-away was that the toilet paper did not have the folded triangle that I'm used to seeing when you first check-into a hotel room. I didn't think too much of it and just decided that the hotel does not do triangles. lol. But then I found a used dirty tea cup with a chewed up stir stick at the coffee station. At this point I was afraid that the room is not fresh and that someone was here and the linens have not been changed. I called the front desk and she didn't seem surprised but assured me that the linens were clean and that the housekeeping probably forgot to take the cup away. She never offered to remove the dirty cup and straw. My guess is that someone was chilling out in here. Whatever, at this point I've already decided to check-out in the morning and move to another hotel. At one point I had ordered delivery from a restaurant but they had forgotten to provide any cutlery so I went to front desk to see if they had any available. There was a sign that said she had left to valet a car. So there was no body at the front desk. I would think a hotel of this calibre would have more staff than this. They basically have one person on staff to do everything. The next morning I called the morning clerk and asked her to check me out. A few minutes later she called back and asked which card I wanted the room charged to. I said "I only provided you with one Amex card. What other card are you referring to?" She said "The other card is your ID card". I said "um...you can't charge my room to my ID card". She said "ok I'll charge it to your Amex card". HUH?!? As for the room, it is a large room. There is a large bathroom with a large standup shower with 5 shower heads. But the tiles in the shower stall floors looked icky. The hotel room door was old and had the old chain locks. The desk in the room is ridiculous. You have this huge room but this tiny little old-style desk that you can't even put anything on (see uploaded picture). Even if you were to use it you'd end up hitting your head on it because it was more like a cupboard than a desk. I ended up using the coffee station as a desk instead. The wifi was very weak and slow and dropped more than once. There was no TV channel lineup anywhere I can find in the room. The welcome book was dirty and sticky as were the pages inside. The bed was the best part. Very comfy and lots of nice large pillows. They also offered snacks and beverages in the rooms for a reasonable price so that was nice. I would stay here again if I had to, but it would not be my first choice. read more

We loved our stay at the charming Clarke hotel! The bed was incredibly comfortable and the pillows were perfect. The room is large and clean and the amenities included a mini fridge and a Keurig coffeemaker. The street outside our room was adorable with cute bars and shops. My only complaint that the nightlife was hopping on Friday night (who would've thought Waukesha has nightlife?) and I was briefly woken up by shouting bar patrons on their way home. The hotel did provide earplugs that were left on the nightstand so they are probably aware of the noise issues. Overall the experience was great, though, and we plan to stay here the next time we are in the area. read more

This place is terrific and the service and food were excellent. Being a new restaurant I can totally understand mediocre service because of everyone not possibly being on the same page but not here. The environment was great and my wife and I felt very welcome. From when we entered to when we left. The food was incredible, we had Shepards pie and the Guinness bbq pork sandwich. The potatoes were perfectly balanced with the obviously cooked all day pork. The bbq sauce might be one of the best I've ever had. Absolutely incredible. Mouth watering even. Everyone was on their game. I'm so happy to have gone and to share this experience with my wife on our third year anniversary. To be honest, I'm a restaurant manager and being a restaurant manager I find myself over critiquing places and restaurants but this was well deserved. The Clark hotel has been lacking a restaurant and bar for years and this place has really hit the mark. I will say this though, there seemed to be an irritated customer and low and behold it was the subscriber, Shannon B, who's post can be seen below mine. I'm not into slamming anyone or trolling the comments section for people whose opinions are different then mine but this women was utterly obnoxious. Raising her voice and making a scene about her birthday. Which I can totally sympathize with but she obviously hasn't lived in the real world long and doesn't seem to understand the world does not bow to you on your birthday. After reading her post I was almost immediately compelled to stick up for the staff here. Please go here. Please try the food and please comment and see for yourself. This place without a doubt deserves to be in the downtown Waukesha area and brings a wonderful sense of class and upscale dining to an area with a serious lack there of. I have stayed in boutique hotels and B&Bs around the world, so I was very excited that my first couple of nights would be here. I was also excited about the location as it was central to the apartments I wanted to look at, the company I work for, and shops and restaurants were just in walking distance. So I promptly booked online. Finding it was pretty easy, but for some reason, the outside was not as I was expecting. The restaurant downstairs was under renovation, so that was a little disappointing. There are spots on the street that are reserved for the hotel, but just if you choose valet, otherwise you have to find your own parking. In the middle of the day, you have to buzz in, but instead of trusting you that you have a booking, they make you give your name and details right there. I did not particularly like that as I had a suitcase and it was raining quite heavily. When you go in, go to the elevator and go to the second floor to check in. The lobby is quite nice, the lady behind the desk was not as nice. While she wasn't rude, she was quite short and didn't mention any of the amenities of the hotel, no instructions, nothing. The valet parking is extra and they will ask you when you need it, which is a little difficult if your plans are not really set, but on one occasion the man that was behind the desk in the mornings was more accommodating and friendly and he said I could just leave it there until I was ready. I was in 209... right across from the lobby in the handicap accessible room. The room was huge, but felt very empty. The bathroom was also very big, shower with 4 heads or a handheld. The room was on Main Street with large windows to let light in. There was a small desk in the room, a couch, a chair, ottoman, huge pillowtop bed, flat screen t.v. on the wall, mini-fridge, and Keurig coffee machine. Fortunately there was a binder of information in the room to tell me the things that she didn't. They have wireless internet, but a number of the webpages I tried to visit would not load... other pages were just fine, so I don't know what it was... Facebook was one, Yelp was another... just to name a few that had trouble loading. While the bed was so very comfortable, the temperature of the room could not be changed even though I thought I had changed the temperature and the noise was a lot louder than I expected. So from the lobby I would get the ringing of the bell when someone returned to the hotel because no one was at the desk and people talking in the lobby. Then there was someone on the other side of the wall that the bed was against and it sounded like someone was hammering on the wall. Then from the street there was the noise of people standing outside the Nice Ash Cigar Bar... on one night they were playing loud music. So overall, I didn't really get to sleep in that nice big, comfy bed as much as I just got to lay there, listening to everyone around me. Although, it did help me decide not to live downtown, it was not quite the comfortable stay I was hoping for. I certainly don't think that it was worth the money paid. If they had charged less, I may not have been so disappointed in the stay, but there seems to be a lot of hype and not a lot of delivery on that hype. read more

The room was lovely. But I thought it was odd that there was no soap or washcloth in the bathroom. The air conditioning was noisy. There were only artificial sweeteners for the coffee. But it is a great location if you are coming to Waukesha for a Freeman Friday Night! read more

Clean, friendly, efficient, freakishly roomy, and probably quiet when not Halloween. Bathroom alone parks 2-3 cars. Paper thin windows are drafty. Postage stamp TV contrasts comically with cavernous room and NBA-sized chairs. Advertised library is 2 posters depicting book bindings and 2 books about Ireland. Only art in room is on wall busy with windows and may be the work of fifth graders. read more

Had a very nice relaxing night at the Clarke Hotel. The room and bathroom were beautiful. Walking distance to shops, eateries, and pubs. Was a little disappointed that one window was missing a shade. The noise was a little loud but have heard worse at other hotels. Windows were drafty but heat stayed on all night. Was what we needed in getting away. read more

We asked for a quiet room after reading other reviews. We had a wonderful stay on the comfy bed. The thermostat was adjustable so we picked our happy temp for the room. The bathroom was spacious and we liked the bee kind toiletries. This was a nice change of pace from the typical chain hotel. The parking garage was close and you only need to use it overnight, otherwise, we did not have a problem finding street parking. Will definitely stay here again if in the area. read more
