This place is amazing! It is rare to find a restaurant with great food and wonderful service. I made reservations for my friends and me on a Friday night, and I highly recommend doing the same. The staff is incredibly attentive; they all work as a team to serve customers. They are friendly and quick to respond--I've never seen a team at a restaurant work so well together. One person takes your order, another brings your food, while someone else fills your drinks and takes your plates. Although it was crowded, we were frequently asked if we needed more drinks or salsa. The food was good and fresh. I had the shrimp taco platter, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The rice and beans were some of the best I've ever tasted. Having grown up in Camarillo and now living in Oxnard, I have a deep appreciation for rice and beans. These had a flavor I couldn't identify, but they were fantastic! I am completely out of words. I was craving a surf and turf Burrito and after thirty minutes of searching on Yelp, I came across The Cliffdiver. I ordered the surf and turf burrito and added guacamole. From first glance, the burrito looks so huge and appetizing! I love to see the grill marks on the tortilla. They gave me some complimentary chips and salsa. I was hyped to eat. I took a couple big bites of my burrito. Where is my shrimp and carne asada?? I kept biting and biting to reach the meat and bit into something really hard and thin. I immediately took it out of my mouth. Cardboard???!! I am so disappointed and disgusted. Such a cute place to enjoy some Mexican food. My daughter and I shared some chicken enchiladas and steak quesadilla. The steak quesadilla was too die for! The cheese on the outside of the tortilla added the perfect crunch to the tender meat and melted cheese inside. Too good!! Will definitely come back to order this one. I don't believe in one stars. Something about this experience though suggested I should share here. I waited six weeks even, just to be sure. Yes, you need to know this information. That said, I'm hopeful the management team will read my comments and consider some changes. My experience is that this place is popular with the 30-40 parents in the area. Which isn't a bad thing but it's an experience itself watching them be fake friends with others at their tables. Sure, the management can't do anything about plastic customers but if that's not your thing, consider going elsewhere. If the TO types don't impact you, let's keep going. I visited on Cinco de Mayo. From the start, the experience felt poorly planned. I wasn't sure how to be sat outside. My husband stood for about 5 minutes uncertain too, while I was on the sidewalk. The location is clunky, upstairs and makes no sense. Nevertheless, inside in the very back corner, furthest spot from the first door from the street, is the hostess stand. That then created a disturbance on the front patio because people would exit out by the stand, now walking narrowly between the outside tables. Imagine that kind of ambiance -- people walking back and forth either seeking a table or standing outside waiting for their table. Despite having a website, and social media there was absolutely no mention that happy hour was suspended on Cinco de Mayo. We were not the only customers who were disappointed. A heads up is all we needed, totally fine with no happy hour on a special night. So, we spent $11 for a mediocre margarita. The salsa that came with the chips was good. The ceviche we had was lackluster. The food was bland and plated simply. The ingredients weren't complex. There was little spice -- it's Mexican food, which typically has varied spices. In summary, the food and drink were not great. They tasted low end, unimaginative. It feels all very novice, first time restaurant owners. Almost like the food, drinks and decor are what's left when they finish paying the Blvd rent. I strongly recommend instead other nearby restaurants and bars. The experience overall wasn't great in my opinion and I believe it isn't worth your free time and hard earned money. read more

I love this place. I went here with my girlfriend to get her out of the house, she got broken up with. So it was time for a girls night out. And we had the sweetest bartender. Her name was Macy but at the end of the night we called her Macy Bear because she has a great personality and love her laugh. She told us they had good nachos and they were amazing!! Then when the server finally did come after waiting for a long time, he took our drink orders and quickly walked away before we could order food. Tacos were good but not worth $18. California burrito was extremely bland and lacking. Mai tai was stated on the menu that it was served frozen but it wasn't. The Cliffdiver has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Thousand Oaks. The vibe is fun, colorful, and relaxed. It honestly feels like a little tropical escape without leaving town. The food is fantastic. They have a variety of tacos that are a must-try, the shrimp ceviche is super fresh, and even the fries are perfectly crispy. I have yet to have a bad thing on the menu. Portions are solid. They also have a great happy hour menu, empanadas, and tacos at a good price. Service has always been friendly and attentive whenever I've visited. Rented the upper level room for a birthday celebration this past weekend, the ambiance was very nice, service was wonderful, all workers were very accommodating and respectful. I originally spoke with Ivan over the phone to book the lower level but I'm glad I ended up booking the upper level (holds up to 40 people, need $750 minimum food/beverage) it was worth it! They offer a catering menu for large groups and food was ready on time. They were even nice enough to let us come in an hour and a half early to set up. I recommend this place to celebrate or for any events. There's a small lot in the back and plenty of street parking. read more

I have been here so many times. Food is great, drinks amazing, service usually on point. Today was bad. Took me 15 min to be acknowledged and there were only 4 people in the bar and the restaurant was empty. Was never offered chips and salsa and when I finally got a drink, it was completely watered down. And by watered down, I mean the alcohol bottle was watered down. I ordered an Empress gin and tonic. For those of you who know gin you know that this is a purple gin so the drink will have a purple tint. When it was served to me, it was completely clear! . When I asked if this was in fact an empress the bartender looked at the bottle and said oh yeah it looks like the bottle was watered down. Are you kidding me!? Not ok.... I wasn't offered something different. Cliffdiver you need to do better. Not only is that shitty but illegal. It won't deter me from coming here in the future as I am forgiving but If these kind of shenanigans continue, we're gonna have a big problem. I came to this restuarant for taco Tuesday's happy hour. I ordered two drinks ($9 each) and two tacos ($3 each), total is $24, tax $1.74 and tip $4.26. I asked to be charged $30, for my portion of the bill and found a charge for $35. Called and spoke to the owner on Saturday, he was rude, very rude and claimed my girlfriend didn't tip out enough saying she was charge $34. I'm not sure what my girlfriend ordered but I did confirm that she was charged $39. When I pointed out that the issue was internal and I requested an apology, I was told I needed to apologize instead and basically hung up on. First time coming here & I loved it! The restaurant itself is on the smaller size however we sat at the bar & the bartender was super nice. The ambiance gives you the tropical vibes which is cute. We got the queso as an appetizer which also comes with chips and salsa & it was so good. It's so hard to find good queso in LA. Their regular frozen margarita which was super yummy. I got their burrito bowl with blackened shrimp. I enjoyed it & it was pretty big so I took half home for another meal. Such a cute spot! (sadly replaced the Indian restaurant I liked). However, I really like what they did with the place. It is definitely unassuming from the outside. Came here on a Saturday for lunch and it was a little busy. The restaurant is separated by two sections, one is more of a restaurant sit down type of area and the other is more of a bar atmosphere with high top seating. I ended up getting the Lobster tacos ($21.99, comes with 3) with cabbage and aioli. I really enjoyed the tacos, had great flavor from the aioli and a little heat. I did think the tacos were a bit pricey considering it doesn't come with anything else. My sister ordered the Traditional Burrito with chicken ($12.99), rice, beans, pico, chipotle aioli. The size was generous (but nothing too outrageous) and definitely filling. My sister ended up opting out on the aioli, however the flavor of the burrito was still really good from the chicken and pico. Finally, I ended up ordering an a glass of Rose, however what was brought to me was the Rose Sangria instead. I was happy with what was brought to me, granted I didn't even know there was a Sangria on there so I wish they had confirmed what I ordered. Weird thing is, they wanted us to order right away because they were apparently closing early which I wasn't a fan of. We ordered the steak nachos, spicy chicken sandwich, guac, shrimp ceviche, and two cocktails (Oaxacan and martini). I really loved my chicken sandwich. It had the perfect crunch and taste. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. My Oaxacan drink was super delicious too! The guac was ok, could've used some serano or something to maybe it a bit more unique. When I go out to eat, I don't want the food to taste like something I could easily make at home. In the case of the guac, esquites, beans, and rice - it bummed me out to taste these dishes, knowing with certainty that I have made better versions at home. None of it was bad, but it all lacked flavor and/or seasoning. The lobster tacos were nothing to write home about. They were tiniest tacos I've ever seen - I legitimately have never seen a tortilla that small in my life. The gringo tacos and the salsa they came with were the highlight, and the only dish I would recommend. Was looking forward to the margarita flight, was told it would be 10-15 minutes because they were out of the glasses. I was fine with that as I figured the food would take at least 10 minutes (pretty typical for most restaurants) - the food was out in less than 5 minutes and, by the time 15 minutes had hit and the glasses still hadn't appeared, I asked the bartender to cancel the flight. Great that the food was so quick, however would've appreciated if the bartender would've mentioned this likelihood to me when she provided the 10-15 minutes ETA for the flight, as I would've gotten something else. Not sure why she didn't offer to just pour the correct volume of drink for the flight-sized sampling into regular-sized glasses if I was okay with the lack of aesthetic. I've never had a restaurant tell me they can't serve my food or drink because they ran out of the proper glass or dish. Walked out wishing I would've just stayed home to make my own food and drinks. Overall, wouldn't come back based on my experience and 3/4 dishes being mediocre. 3 stars based on the server being friendly, the single dish I enjoyed, the ambiance, and the assumption that the drinks are good. If you're looking for a cute backdrop with pretty drinks, this could be a good place for you. read more

We made a reservation on OpenTable and tried the restaurant for the first time. The bar was crowded for football game and looked like a great time. We sat in the dining room. It is decorated very uniquely and everything looks dusted and clean. Our server Ellie (?) was pleasant and attentive. She was able to give recommendations and answer the questions we had about menu and drink items. I was disappointed because there was a drink advertised on the front of the menu (Santa something??)but she said they hadn't removed those ads yet, but they stopped serving the holiday drinks. I found another interesting drink on the menu. My companion got a large original margarita. His drink was delicious. My drink was actually awful. Neither of us liked it and in fact, we couldn't even drink it. There is a disclaimer that we are not big drinkers so maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. The server saw that we couldn't even drink it and I do think she felt bad and we all laughed and agreed we would definitely try something different next time. It was a rosé sangria, but it was terrible! After a seceral (half a dozen) sips we just left it. In terms of the food, there are some adventurous items on the menu, but we were boring and got the cheese enchiladas and a Carne Asada burrito. The food was adequate, but not great. The rice and beans were just satisfactory. However, the prices were very fair and they had a large menu. We would probably try something different next time. We don't regret trying it and we would like to give it another try at another time. We noticed that they do have a brunch on the weekends and that may be something good to try next time. First time trying The Cliffdiver. Aside from our really great server and the lobster taco, I didn't really enjoy the rest of the dining experience. I'm rounding up from a 3.5 because of these positive notes. After a bummer of a dental appointment, I suggested that we get an early dinner instead of just going home. The Cliffdiver was on my bookmarked list, so we popped in. Too breezy and cool to sit outside, we sat in the main dining room. It features eclectic decor, with a touch of tropical vibe. One wall sports a colorful extended collage of photos. Reminded me of the den in a cabin or beach house from 40 or 50 years ago. A veritable jungle of green garlands and hanging plants grace the high ceiling of the room. It's a kitschy mix that offers a playful atmosphere. On the down side, the tables are only adorned with tealight candleholders on some of them. They don't preset the tables with flatware, plates, or condiments. I ordered the watermelon margarita, sans alcohol. It arrived on the rocks with a visually interesting dried lime slice. Sadly, it had almost no watermelon flavor, and was on the sour side. Just didn't do it for me. Dear Hubby had better luck with the Mango Cart. We shared the shrimp ceviche appetizer. Presentation points, for sure! While tangy and plentiful, the butterflied shrimp was on the chewy side, like calamari when it sits too long. We also ordered the "Large Seafood Platter", which ended up being three tacos, one lobster (delicious!), one shrimp (tasty), and one Mahi (meh flavor). What made it large was the addition of a good sized side of fries. Only found out later that they have Taco Tuesday specials. We finished with the dessert churros, as recommended by our server. She discouraged us from the cheesecake option, which I couldn't have anyway. Again, the presentation was nicely offered, but I didn't care for the very heavy texture of the churros. I expect light and fluffy, but instead we chewed on a very dense pastry. It was like the difference between an old-fashioned donut vs. a soft & fluffy glazed donut. Sadly, not a win in my book. We saw somewhere on social media that the Cliffdiver recently opened in Thousand Oaks and was the newest Mexican/Seafood restaurant in town. So we decided to check it! Upon walking in, we were delighted to see there were several groups eating as it's an off the wall location in the city of Thousand Oaks' main Blvd. Like I've mentioned in other reviews on Mexican restaurants.... If you fail the chips and salsa, You fail life! The Cliffdiver's complimentary chips & salsa did not disappoint!! From there we had Lobster tacos, steak nachos, margaritas, Modelo's and churros to end the evening. All I can say is.... EVERYTHING was on point!! We had a chance to speak with the Manager/Owner?? And he said that they used to be in Malibu, but decided to venture out this this side of the Santa Monica Mountains. He said the following day (June 9th) was going to be their Grand Opening and they were expecting a big turnout as many of their faithful Malibu customers have said they would continue to support their establishment. The decor is fun; it's has a very lively, laid back feel. The restaurant is on one side and they have another room on the opposite side with a bar with seating of you want to chop it up with the bartender. Outdoor seating is limited, but they've got it. All in all, this place is a great addition to the neighbor. We will Absolutely be back for a date night with our friends, we are always in competition of who can find the next best place to go in town. The Cliffdiver is going to be the new spot in T.O. You can quote me on this! Fun, trendy, casual feel good vibes that the 805 has so desperately needed. Who doesn't love Instagram worthy decor, fruity margaritas, and a stellar taco menu? The atmosphere and decor here is so lively, fun, and summery. They really did a fantastic job creating a fun atmosphere with beautiful furniture and the perfect pastel combinations of pinks and teals throughout the restaurant. The restaurant is also unique as it has different dining areas that are all separate from one another. The bar area has its own little table top and some seating and then if you walk to the back around the corner (which is where we sat) you are in the more formal part of the restaurant with a beautiful lounge area and then proper dining tables. Then they even have patio outdoor seating along the front of the restaurant so you have plenty of options and I'm guessing as this place gets busier and busier they can still seat a good amount of people. Everyone that works here is super friendly and just seemed genuinely grateful for the publicity and business as a brand new restaurant. We met the owner and shared with him our excitement that such a cute spot like this opened in Thousand Oaks as these kind of vibes and food are much needed in the area. Everyone was nice and yes it's a new spot, so they are still getting their bearings on service but everyone had a smile on their face and was doing their best to check in and get us what we need - so this was much appreciated as I feel like they've done better than most restaurants that just opened to be honest. The drinks were perfection! You can't go wrong with a fruit margarita and they were perfectly sippable with a good flavor and stronger than you would think. I tried the watermelon margarita and a classic margarita, both were good but that classic was five stars for sure. My friend had the jalapeño margarita and a mango margarita and she said both were great but if you love spicy than jalapeño is definitely the way to go. I was also really impressed with their menu as they had a lot of different taco protein options. We opted for the mahi-mahi and the grilled shrimp tacos and both were really tasty. Yes a little heavy handed on the cabbage but once we took a little off it was the perfect bite! The marinade they use on their proteins is super flavorful and we would definitely get the shrimp and mahi again. My favorite dish for lunch though were the Ahi Tostadas. This hands-down is one of the best appetizers I have had in a really long time. The Ahi tuna chunks were huge and so fresh just like real poke. You definitely need to get a couple of orders of these for the table because their presentation was beautiful and they were really tasty. I'd highly recommend supporting this business because everyone that works here is just so nice and the quality is 100% there. The interior is beautiful and fun and I just know this place is going to takeoff once more people start hearing about it!
