Shotty job and overall ruined my shoes and bags. The last straw for me was stretching my wedding shoes. Another cobbler only guaranteed one redo. My feet killed me by the time our ceremony was finished. Huge lessons learned here. Glad I waited! I discovered The Cobbler in downtown San Mateo, new young owners of 2 yrs now and lovely as can be. Feels like they really care about my items. Sole replacements? NO GLUE in sight! Bag stap restitching looks like NEW! LV patina and overall conditioning just **CHEF's KISS** amazing. I trust the craftsmashift here. Highly recommend for your valuable/leather items. Regular maintenance is key to extend the life of your favorite items. Glad I finally found the right place and awesome folks I can't help but rave about! Plus they do dry cleaning and alterations! One stop shop! And I'm sure it explains why the stitching is extra perfection. People complaining about cost, go in leading with cost if you're concerned. I never had a problem. For me, I don't care if other places cost less when dealing with items I LOVE. I budget and space out the maintenance of my items with clarity of my responsibility of each job. I am a frequent user of shoe repair services and have been on the hunt for a reasonably priced and quality cobbler. After calling numerous shops to repair an expensive (and new!) combat boot, I landed on The Cobbler because of their fair prices, quick turn around time, and the many positive reviews they already had. Their estimates came in anywhere from $30-$50 less than other highly rated cobblers I diligenced in the surrounding area. The owners diagnosed by boot as a zipper misalignment, and charged me $15 for the service. They were able to realign the zipper within 5 business days. Very sadly, the zipper busted again on my first attempt at wearing. Needless to say, I was frustrated. However, I have rated The Cobbler as a 4/5 because they replaced they replaced the zipper tab at a discount (would have originally cost $25, but knocked the $15 zipper alignment off the total) and returned the boot to me the next day. Obviously I would have much preferred it was gotten right on the first attempt, but I appreciate their quick and respectably priced corrective gesture. $25 to repair a $400 boot - can't really beat that. Assuming my replaced zipper lasts through my next few wears, I will definitely go back in the very near future. read more

I just wanna give a HUGE THANK YOU again to The Cobbler for making my Burberry rucksack as good as new. After going to ALL these Burberry stores in Bay Area (Palo Alto, SJ, SF, Livermore), all of them said that they might not have the original parts of my rucksack backpack bec it already has been discontinued and my bag is old (got it 2017) even if they will send it to their repair center in New Jersey. I tried my luck at The Cobbler hoping that they will have somehow an equal leather for the string stopper that fell. The cobbler used a leftover original Burberry belt and made a new string stopper for my bag. I am sooo happy and really grateful customer. read more

I took in a jacket with functioning buttonholes on the sleeves and asked for the sleeves to be shortened ~1/4" which is very workable with the buttonhole locations. The result is shown: the sleeves are now sewn up, buttons are misaligned, and the buttons are not functional. I would have appreciated a phone call before they did something drastic like this. I will have to take it to a more professional tailor now and hope the damage can be mitigated. read more

This place is fantastic and the people are amazing. I needed some leather motorcycle gloves altered. The thumbs were too long. They are $300 gloves and wanted to make sure they were repaired right. I really didn't know where to go for such a unique thing. Because the gloves have a lot of extra padding and reinforcement, I imagined them to be very difficult if not impossible to shorten because to do them right you need to pull the thumbs inside out. The external exoskeleton prevents that. So I go in, expecting a no. Not only was the gentleman awesome in personality, but he assured me he could and even told me he could reposition the end seam so it would not irritate my thumbs. He quoted me an unbelievably low price that I had to ask him to repeat. I won't say here because I told him after I paid he needs to charge more (at least what's fair). Wow, fantastic service! I asked three pair of jeans for alteration and two pair of shoes to fix the heels. It only took one week to get back to me. The quality of service was great. But there was another story. After I tried on those jeans, I realized that I altered too much. So I asked them if they still had my hems and put them back to make them a bit longer. They kindly told me that they could do that and made that happen amazingly! Dana even gave me 10% off for the second round even though this was completely my fault. The best! Dana and Jay have a customer in me. This place dyed my lamb leather Moto jacket, fixed hemline on a leather skirt from Zara. Lined a silk dress, and hemmed my cotton linen dress. I love textiles and the fact I could give them leather, silk or linen and get it back in the same condition is a miracle. I haven't done cobbler work as of yet but it's impeccable looking at all the shoes that were already there. You get what you pay for! They both wore masks, there is a shield for your protection and theirs. I brought two Celine bags here to have the straps shortened to very specific lengths, I just got them back and the work was done exactly how I wanted. You cannot notice where they reattached the strap because they did such a good job with the application and color matching of the coating. I know one of my bags was more difficult because of the unique color but they did an excellent job with it. They're a little pricier than other places but the quality of work is much higher. They definitely pay attention to detail and make sure to do the job correctly. This was actually a revision to an alteration that was completely botched by another repair place (Model Shoe Renew in Berkeley) and comparing the way both places did the same job, the difference in quality is night and day. I wrote a review on this place awhile ago when it was under the old management. I recently stopped by to get a leather bag of mine repaired, only to find out that the shop had new owners. I was greeted by a lady with a big smile and very warm presence, her body language told me that she may be the new owner. I dropped my bag off after being quoted a beyond reasonable price, and received it back within a few day. My bag looks good as new and the work done was phenomenal, the stitching and craftsmanship were guided by passion and pride. It was a surprise not to see the old owner when I walked in, but I am relieved that I do not have to look elsewhere when it comes to finding a cobbler, I'm looking forward to being a regular with this new regime, and build a relationship like the old owner had with his customers for over 50 years. I took a pair of Chanel heels that needed major TLC and a brand new LV Daily Pouch that I wanted to add leather leather tabs and d-rings to make into a crossbody. I can't recommend this shop enough! Jay and Dana are exceptionally talented at what they do. I've tried most of the reputable tailors in the area, and no where have I found better communication (perhaps the most important quality of a good tailor) and quality of work than here. Dana does an amazing and thoughtful job with every piece she works on and is exactly the companion you want when coming up with the perfect fit. Turn around times are always fast, the work includes free revisions, and she even texts you when your item is done! Having worked with so many tailors before, many shy away from difficult work -- but I have every confidence Dana is able to ace any challenge I bring to her. Jay is a master craftsman of his trade, specializing in leather and cobblery. He was able to resole my 1907 Redwing boots with a special order arctic grip sole per my request and made the boots look better than when I originally bought them 10 years prior. The work looked 100% factory stock, it was that good. I've referred family to Jay and Dana as well, and they've been astounded by how Jay has been able to take, for example, a leather jacket they thought was hopeless given sticker adhesive damage and restored it to look like new! Same with a pair of boots: they come out from Jay and Dana's shop looking like new. Unlike others in the industry, they are not jaded, impatient, or grumpy. Instead, they're ultra thoughtful, caring, cheerful, and modern. Every drop off is easy, and every pick up is a delight. They absolutely deserve a 5/5 star rating. read more

I have been meaning to fix my heels for a couple years now since YSB Florida's humidity ate the lining of my suede nine west heels. They're not super fancy, but I now have to wear specific types of heels due to the doctors cautioning me that I will have to have surgery if I don't. So it's either flats, or a couple sets that don't irritate the condition - and these heels are perfect, just perfect. So I brought them, along with another set where the heel had come off and a set of leather flats I'd ripped a hole in. A week later all three were fixed beautifully with wonderful workmanship. I even got new laces for the heels that really worked with the style. I will say that the total for the relining, re-heeling, leather patch work, laces, and new heel caps for both heels was around $100 and I was expecting a bit less, but the service was incredibly friendly and I love that I can wear heels again as I haven't been able to for the last year. They were done in less than a week (even though I brought them in right before Christmas) and they're practically new now. They looks great, feel great, and still fit perfectly. This place used to be really good but the original owner retired and I was hopeful the new owners would be just as good but unfortunately they missed the mark. They ruined my favorite pair of shoes... they initially fixed the shoes but used thread color that did not match existing thread, so it was very noticeable. When I took the shoes back to point out the issue and request they fix/change to a matching thread, the guy just took the shoes and tried to use shoe polish to color the thread! made it worse! then they kept the shoes and said they'd fix the problem. but as you can see, they completely jacked up the shoes and the first time I wore them the strap snapped!! not good and now I have to take them back and try to get a refund. read more
