Every time I am in Manoa, which is not nearly enough, I stop in and I am always happy I did. The workers are upbeat and efficient, even the new ones. I ordered something from the "Friends" themed menu and the cashier was not aware of the new offerings, so his colleague stepped in and helped and the transaction was rung up lickety split. The "Phoebe" frozen blended cookies and cream sounded better than the "Rachel" matcha based drink on such a hot day. (More matcha for the rest of you!) I like the vibe of this little spot. It stays busy but it is never too crowded to find a seat and the lighting is just right, as is the music. It is clean and spare and yet welcoming. I like that Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf has some unique flavor offerings and this one executes them well. I usually only visit this location on the weekends. At night it can be a little deceiving if they're open or not because the sign outside is not lit. But...don't despair!! If it's before 9:30 pm on Saturday, they are open!!! The staff here are really nice and super polite!! They always greet anyone who walks through the door. I am not sure how they know someone enters especially when they're busy doing cleaning away from the register...but they always call out a greeting. I now know that I enjoy oat milk in my iced lattes over regular milk. The oat milk tastes a little creamier, but is easier on my stomach. I don't usually get hot drinks even in this cooler weather...but the one time I did get a hot latte with oat milk, the oat taste was a little too strong for me. I usually just order a regular iced latte with oat milk. No flavors are needed in this drink. As a longtime fan of Starbucks, I was pretty new to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. New like I stood at the counter and asked a million questions before finally deciding on a drink. Luckily there was no line behind me and the barista did not rush me at all. I chose to come here tonight because I had a gift card, was in dire need of getting some work done and CBTL was open later than SB (9:30 pm vs 8 pm). The two workers were so patient and nice! Genuinely nice and helpful people are so rare these days in customer service. I ordered the hazelnut americano and was blown away. I brought my drink to the milk bar fully expecting to need to doctor it up with cream and various powders but ended up adding NOTHING to it. I don't visit Manoa Marketplace often, but a close friend of mine works in the area so I had a coffee date with her recently at this Coffee Bean. We had a pleasant time and there was ample seating, but since we were there during lunch time, we definitely noticed when there was a slight lunch rush. I got there around 10:30 a.m. to meet my friend, and for a weekday, that seemed to be the perfect time. There were still a good amount of tables open, though there were already customers in the coffee shop. And, while there were people who came after us to order, we both didn't feel rushed, since we were indecisive about both, our coffee flavors and desserts. I try to get something different every time I visit a Coffee Bean, and I'm never disappointed with my selection. My friend and I ordered two different drinks and two different desserts to split, so it was a win-win overall. Service was good (workers were pleasant) and prompt; it didn't take long for our drinks to be ready and we had a great 1.5 hours of catching up and girl time. I would definitely return to this Coffee Bean if I'm ever in the area. I'm glad it's not as crowded as Starbucks; it presents a great venue to get some work done or catch up with friends. Here's what we ordered: "Peanut Butter Brownie": My friend and I love all things chocolate and peanut butter, so getting this brownie was a no-brainer. It was seriously love at first bite. While the brownie was not as moist and decadent as it could have been, it was cakey and chocolaty, and that's all that mattered at this point in time. I did like the peanut butter drizzle that was on top, but I probably would have enjoyed this brownie more if there was more peanut butter included in it. I did like the melted chocolate chips interspersed throughout, though (we had the brownie warmed up). Great choice for any chocoholic out there. "Chocolate Cupcake": This selection really surprised me, and I ended up liking it even more than the brownie. I tend to be picky about my cupcakes because I worked at a bakery in L.A. and was spoiled by fresh, rich cupcakes that set my standard for cupcakes pretty high. But, this dark chocolate cupcake from Coffee Bean was actually really good ... in that, I would have no hesitations about ordering it again. It features a fudgy cake that's not dry and it's topped with a chocolate buttercream (at least, it tasted like chocolate buttercream). I loved the chocolate-on-chocolate combo and the cake was moist enough for me (sometimes chocolate cakes can be really dry). I was surprised by how much I loved this cupcake and am happy to have found a decent one on this island to indulge in from time to time. "Hazelnut Latte": My friend said she always gets this drink so she opted for something different, but I never got this hazelnut option before and decided to try it. I wasn't disappointed - this was like Nutella in a cup. I was able to get soy, and I ordered the smaller size of this drink since I got it hot. I actually prefer iced drinks, but I end up finishing them so quickly! But, what I like about Coffee Bean is that the hot drinks aren't scalding hot when you get them, so you don't have to worry about burning your lips or tongue. Well, now! We ended up in here by default, and this circumstance has led this to become our default coffee place. We were in Manoa when my wife really wanted a Starbucks coffee. So, we parked in Starbucks' tiny parking lot (across from Manoa Marketplace), went inside Starbucks, and it was ridiculously crowded with a bunch of petulant people slowly nursing their coffees while they wrote their dissertations, Pulitzer prize-winning novels, and other tomes on their ubiquitous laptops. There was no place to sit! We both did an immediate about-face, got back in our car, released some more carbon into the already compromised atmosphere, and drove across the street to the Manoa Marketplace (lots of parking!) We wandered in here, found it pleasantly populated, but un-crowded, with a decidedly more down-to-earth and friendly vibe than the place we came from. The folks behind the counter were friendly and low-key, and there was just one woman with a tablet (not a computer), who occasionally looked at it. The iced dessert coffee I ordered was just right, and my wife, who is much more the coffee connoisseur than I, was quite happy with her beverage. It's summer, so in my continuing quest for thirst quenchers, I took a detour from my usual Moroccan mint tea latte with soy milk and ordered the frozen lemonade from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. One sip of the icy cold, lemony beverage and I had to wince from the immediate ache in the hollow of my cheeks. You know the place, it's the same spot that hurts when you bite into li hing mui. Sweeeeeet! A little too sweet, actually. It started to taste better when the ice melted and watered down the sugar. Coffee Bean also makes one of my favorite breakfast treats -- a moist and chewy apricot almond oatcake that pairs well with a tea or coffee latte. It's probably made with a pound of butter so is not exactly healthy, but it sure beats the dry hockey puck oatcake from the other chain. Some people like that, though, since it provides a super dose of fiber. The Manoa location is convenient if you're shopping in the marketplace and want a quick cup of joe, a sweet snack, light meal, or a just a meeting place with friends. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and the shop doesn't seem to be overly crowded at any particular time of day. My favorite coffee shop! The ambience is that of well balanced coffee shop. Great coffee, tons of tables, AC and locals catching up or students studying. I also love the Manoa weather - some days I want a taste of mainland weather and it gets me in the mood to get some work done. Nothing better than a warm cup of coffee on a rainy day. I think parking at the shopping center is so much better than others. Starbucks is across the street but their parking is small and the environment not as inviting. I also love the patio and tables. Large groups gather here on the weekend or for business meetings. It is also a pet friendly patio, so it's a treat for the furry friends. While most regular starbuck go-ers would never step foot into CBTL, whether it be out of loyalty, fear or addiction to those starbuck coffee beans, I find that CBTL is just as awesome as starbucks. YES, i said it! I most definitely am a frequent starbucks customer, but i absolutely love CBTL for their variety in teas. Lets just be honest, starbucks makes a great coffee, but CBTL makes a just as great cup of tea. I especially come here when I am craving a chai tea latte. MMMmmm. It is definitely my favorite at this cosy little shop. I also love their variety in green and black teas! Starbucks most definitely does not keep up in the tea department with CBTL's selection. I love that it comes piping hot, in a large cup and they have teas with full and great flavor! This location is awesome as well. There is a lot of seating, both indoors and outdoors. They have different types of seating, ranging from couches, to tables with chairs to outdoor lounging options. I also love that it's in manoa market place, which has a ton of food options as well. The service here is great. The employees are friendly, more than willing to help you and are smiling all the time. They have never been rude, especially when it gets busy. Overall, I like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) because they offer a lot more variety in food and drinks than Starbucks. My favorite food item is their pesto pasta - you can find it in their cold case. They can heat it up for you, so it is less like a pasta salad...and it tastes better heated. It has cheese and tomatoes in it too. When heated, the cheese will melt and become more stringy (similar to the cheese on a slice of pizza when you are pulling that slice away from the whole). I love to get this for a small lunch. I like CBTL's iced black coffee. Simple, but effective. It tastes stronger than other coffee shops, but it still has a clean taste (no bad after taste...usually). I have also had their ice-blended drinks, which are good. I miss the days when they offered a list of 8 different items that you can ask them to blend into the drink. My favorite item to get from CBTL is their affogato. One of the best food discoveries in the past year has been an affogato, which is a scoop of vanilla ice cream served with one or two shots of their rich espresso. Delicious! The ice cream sweetens the espresso shot(s) while still giving the (much-needed) dose of caffeine. Perfection - a match made in heaven. CBTL also offers Bubbies mochi ice cream. I can get mochi ice cream WITHOUT the 20-minute line at Bubbies...SCORE! (possible girly scream can be added here for emphasis). I love ordering the mochi ice cream at this CBTL in particular because there is one guy employee that always looks super excited/happy for me when I order it. It is like he is excited for me just ordering the ice cream. It always brings a smile to my face. The workers here are also extremely nice and welcoming, even if you walk in 5 minutes before closing. Not an ice cream, coffee, or tea person? CBTL also offers chocolate dipped items, like fortune cookies and mini Oreos. Yup. It seems like CBTL has it all. read more

On a normal day I order iced Japanese Cherry Blossom tea and add no sugar. On certain days I order ice blended Black Forest (chocolate with cherry and ground chocolate covered coffee beans) with a dusting of cayenne pepper. Heaven, and exactly what I need to turn a bad day around. Today began as a bad day. I've spent the weekend tending to a sick friend. She managed to be sprung from the hospital and we stopped for coffee on our way to her house. I would never have suggested that we stop here, as I did not want to add stress to the day. The lattes. etc., at the Coffee Bean are just OK, but what you REALLY go to CB&TL for is the whole leaf TEA. They have so many different varieties, you could have a different one for every kind of day you're having. My absolute favorite hot tea is their genmaicha green. Take a look at the tea bag when they brew it: it's even got whole popped popcorn kernels in it, along with the rice -- very cool, and it's got such a nice flavor. They recommend that you remove the bag after steeping, but I've found that you can easily add more steaming water and stretch its usage for at least one more cup. On hot days, I'll go for an iced pomegranate blueberry tea. Don't let the pomegranate in the name scare you: the taste isn't overwhelming. It's a really nice, mild flavor. When I first heard about CB&TL, people were saying that their baked goods were supposed to be excellent, but I've tried a couple and found them to be on the dry side. Their refrigerated meal options, like sandwiches and wraps, are considerably better, though. But remember: you are there for the tea. Do not leave without trying the tea! read more

First of all, I always order the same thing; a large iced jasmine dragon tea. Usually after I add my sugar ( I promise it's not that much xD) it doesn't have too much of a tea taste left.. There's been occasions where I let my friends try and they exclaim that I paid for sugar water -__-. Manoa's Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is usually one of the better ones at making my tea..but today it was awesome! The tea actually had some color in it and had a strong tea flavor. Even after all the ice had melted, the tea flavor remained (it takes me forever to finish it -__-). I was just amazed. I went there for lunch and ordered a chicken pesto sandwich and plantation iced tea. I didn't expect much from the sandwich because it looked average but turns out the flavor of the pesto was awesome. I had a choice of having it warmed up or keeping it cold. I choose to eat it cold. I dorm at University of Hawaii at Manoa. So I moped to this location. Definitely worth the 6 minute trip. I've only been to this location and the one by market city. I usually buy a regular or large blended dark chocolate - my fave. Comes out to about 4.60 or something to that extent. Or about 5.00. So it's pretty expensive. They ask if you want whipped cream. Extra calories but no extra charge. They also hand you an hour long Internet card for every purchase. this is understandable because if they didn't I'm sure coffee bean would be overcrowded. They also have this card where for every dollar they put a stamp. Enough stamps gets you a free drink of your choice any size. So that's a good deal. The style is really cute and it's not too crowded. Usually I can find a good seat when I get my order. The service is fast, friendly and helpful. When asking a bunch of questions the barista was extremely patient and nice. Overall, comfortable, modern feel. I wouldn't recommend it for the average college student because it's quite a trip if you don't have a car or moped. Although there's a lot of space for parking, ESP compared to the market city coffee bean.it's also pretty pricey. $5 for a cup of blended deep chocolate? get outta here! I feel like they're more pricy than Starbucks and don't have a great reward system however I also think their menu and drinks in general are of a higher caliber and they offer more unique drinks in their menu. For this reason I will always love Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Nothing replaces my oldie but goodie favorite their ice blended Black Forrest with coffee beans blended into it. They tend to carry distinctive drinks like the more recent addition of Vietnamese iced coffee. Now it's not authentic Vietnamese coffee but more of a Vietnamese "style" with condensed milk. The cashiers have always been friendly and are generally happy at work which gives the place amazing vibes. I know most of us can make coffee at home for cents on the dollar so if you're like me you go for the convenience while at work/school and the ambiance. Sometimes I just can't focus at home on the weekend with the million things of never ending things to improve around the house so it's just nice to get out and just focus. I enjoy the irreplaceable coffee shop smell and work/study hub feel. I've been to other coffee shops where the employees are disgruntled so it's nice to go to this coffee shop and simply enjoy the good vibes and that extra afternoon boost. read more

I like this location- it has some really nice baristas that try their very best to be helpful. There was a woman in line in front of me with a walking cain having trouble, and the guy came over and helped her get her paper for her and the other guy walked the drink to her table for her. Very nice that I think is above and beyond service for a fast coffee bar. For me- I'm happy that my favorite breakfast sandwich is $1 cheaper here than in Ala Moana. I still like it and it is good, they toasted it for me each time I order it so I'm happy. Coffee of the day was clearly labeled on the chalk board and it sounded great to me so I headed for that too and was not disappointed. 1 thing- bathroom is a 1 stall room with 1 key to get into, so there can be a line. Amazing service. I really enjoyed the items and they were filling.. since I rarely come to the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, I figured that I needed a break somewhere I always go to. I am glad that the Mocha blended beverage was delicious and not too sweet and they do have almond milk too, which makes it less sweet. Also the item that my mother ordered was very good as well as the strawberry lemonade. What I did notice was that they offered cotton candy lemonade along with the teas and coffees of the day. The cinnamon rolls were big and they do fill you fast so that you don't get too hungry. Also I hope that the app will be up and running so it will be like the Starbucks too. So the next time I do return again, I want to try the teas as well as the lemonades too, so that I get that caffeinated fix for me. There are two camps in the world of franchised coffee... Starbucks vs. Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I've always been a Starbucks kind of girl simply because there are few CB&TLs in the nearby vicinity. Today I decided to hop the fence and see if the grass was actually greener on the other side. Yelper Thomas O has been telling me for the past few weeks what a fan he is and I wanted to see what was at the center of this infatuation. First off, service at CB&TL was great! The girl at the counter was friendly, had a wonderful smile and threw in her two cents about what I should order. It was a hot afternoon and I thought it would be nice to enjoy an ice tea lemonade. She told me I could choose a tea and I decided upon strawberry cream. She suggested a snack and nudged me towards the lemon crunch which she insisted was AMAZING. And that's pretty much where the sweet sweet tea flavored fantasy ended. My drink was terrible. It had a nasty bitterness which permeated through my mouth. I tried to man up and fight my through it but I had to stop drinking it. I took a bite of the lemon dessert and that too was equally as disappointing. I know it's not homemade but it honestly tasted like hotel banquet food meets airplane food. I'm blecking as I write this review at the thought of that horrible yellow dessert hitting my tongue. As much as I wanted to get my money's worth, I stopped with one bite, two sips and left my items in the trash. This is a nice little coffee/tea shop in the heart of Manoa Shopping Center. It has wi-fi and lots of seating. I always go here when I am in the mood for a tea. They have lots of tea selections, and I love to try something different every time I come. The iced tea of the day selections are on a small board above the register and they have an herbal, a black and a third option each time. If you don't feel like trying one of those they have a extensive tea menu too. They also have hot tea and a variety of tea lattes. They have coffee too but I really come here for the teas! read more
