Coffee Grinder closes at around 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays, around midnight every other day, and they feature a DJ 5 nights of the week. No, I haven't been here for night yet, but it's definitely at the top of my nightlife spots to check out. I am trying to cold turkey the coffee habit. I didn't realize how much my body had gotten dependent upon it until last week I had coffee withdrawal headaches for 2 days straight. Bah! Fortunately, in addition to coffees (hot, cold, or blended; regular or decaf; different coffees such as the yesterday's special, which was Ethiopian) Coffee Grinder also offers smoothies and shakes. I got the hazel nut shake, which tasted like vanilla yogurt smoothie with a light touch of hazelnut. I used to go here a lot for lunch when I worked in the area, but I recently rediscovered this place through a fellow house-music-fan friend of mine. Ooh weee! They don't offer a big menu here. Very simply 3 types of sandwiches (Cuban, Foccachia, and another one which I can't remember at the moment). Definitely have mixed reviews for this place. I absolutely love the vibe and their shop hours. I'm currently working on my Bachelors degree so late nights are a given. It's hard finding nice looking study nooks that stay open late and the Coffee Grinder's hours are perfect. Nice placed outlets(always a plus) and various sized seating. Pretty nice. Now for the second portion of my review. The hours and low-key vide are their only redeeming qualities, in my opinion. The first time visiting, I got a cappuccino and my partner got a chai latte. Nothing too fancy. The cappuccino was OK, however, I wouldn't spend $5 on it again. I'm not a fan of chai but the latte wasn't horrible. Just wasn't my cup of tea(pun intended;)). My second visit was a bit of a different story. I had a project to work on with a classmate, it was late so we decided to kick it here. I(thankfully) opted out of ordering anything, but my classmate didn't. When she went to order her drink, the person working on her order grabbed the milk that had already been sitting on the counter, put it to his face and proceeded to sniff it. This used to be my go to coffee place, I hadn't visited in a while but I did today and walked right out. They have sign plastered on the door stating that they were taking precautions against COVID... I walk in and ONLY the customers are wearing their masks for once. The maskless barista kept touching her hair, chin and nose. She didn't use sanitizer or wash her hands, cross contamination everywhere... I left. Incredibly disappointed. This place is an awesome local coffee shop in Jacksonville. Although I love my Starbucks, during these tough pandemic times, please support your local businesses! This place has such a homey and comfortable feel to it. The darker interior and dim lighting gives this place a hushed feel, like you can come here and have intimate talks with friends because time has slowed down. They make a great and affordable cappuccino here. Very nice and pronounced coffee and spice notes, it pairs well with the hot frothed milk sitting on top of the coffee. This place also does a great job making sure your drink is hot! A lot of places, your drink becomes lukewarm or cold within a matter of minutes. This place, my drink was still hot even about an hour later. I don't know what type of cup you are using, but man does your drink stay hot, and great for a cold day might I add. Okay so I love this coffee shop because it's one of the only places you can go in Jax that makes you feel like you aren't actually in Jax! It feels European and the vibe is cool. The music always feels like a dance party is going on but it's surprisingly a chill place. There's a bunch of tables and chairs outside if you want to sit on the patio and lots of comfy space inside. I've had a mocha latte each time I've gone and it kinda tastes like hot chocolate #forthewin butttttt... My only feedback and heads up is the smoking situation. When it's crowded there are always people smoking outside. I was there for a 2 1/2 hour meeting this week and I started sneezing (I'm allergic to smoke) after about an hour...and I had to eventually use my inhaler (I have asthma). There isn't any sort of filtration system as far as I could tell and the smoke really bothered me...even tho it was technically outside. Just an FYI if you're sensitive like moi. The Coffee Grinder is a quirky little place. The vibe inside is like an Eastern European disco playing old school techno music, but the food and drink are great coffee house fare. I've had delicious espressos complimented with rich, yet light, slices of chocolate cake. Everyone was friendly and the service is top notch. You may not hear a lot of English spoken by the regulars. Also, the queue is either non-existent or 7 people deep, so keep an eye out for the random rush. The outside seating is comfortable, but remember that it's smoking friendly and plan accordingly. I'm definitely coming back to this coffee shop. It has character, quality, and reminds me that the world is a bigger place than just Florida. read more

Everytime I pass Coffee Grinder, It's packed with people. I never understood why. Was it a hangout spot for college students to grab a coffee and do some studies? Well, I ordered an espresso with milk (Macchiato?) and it's honestly the best I've ever had. Now, I'm not a coffee connoisseur but I understand a good coffee verses a trash coffee and I sure do know my way around caffeine. This thing is delicious and packs a punch. Keep in mind, I've only left a few reviews in my life. Coffee Grinders may be the best coffee spot in Jacksonville. Early in the morning or late at night. They often have a DJ at night and they have a small selection of beer available. The atmosphere is always great and service is fantastic. The staff really gets to know you and they'll remember you after just a few visits. Here's a tip, liven up your grocery shopping at the nearby Publix by stopping here for a quick cup of coffee first- it's our Sunday ritual. I live a few miles away and decided to pop on in! I thought it was good coffee for a good price. I got a tea and latte, no complaints about either! Lots of alternative milk options. This is a small business with Eastern European owners/products, I don't think it's fair to compare this place to Americanized Starbucks coffee products or to fast-food customer service, I recommend trying something new here! Those getting mad about powdered drinks, maybe try an authentic espresso or something they recommend, rather than a knock off frappichino. Went in on a Saturday morning and it was quiet. A few people in and around the shop. I asked for a decaf flat white and was chastised for ordering a drink that apparently the server gentleman didn't know how to make. I quickly scrambled to look it up on my phone and read the first search result. His reply was, "WTF is micro foam? You either get a latte, cappuccino or macchiato." Mehhhhhhh. I was attracted to this place because it's near an apartment complex that I was planning on moving to. I saw that it had high reviews and decided to stop in. They have lots of pastries and options on the menu. I ended up getting an iced vanilla latte with almond milk. Long story short: it was meh. I'm not exactly a coffee snob but I do like good coffee. This was not good coffee. It was not bad coffee, but it certainly wasn't memorable and didn't blow my mind. It was meh. To top it off, I noticed a dead roach on the floor as I was leaving. I am so over chain coffee shops, over crowded cafe's and tasteless coffee. I was so happy to come across this place, and It was completely by accident too! It was 10 pm and I was in desperate need of coffee beans, the only option was going to target and getting a random coffee bag for my expresso machine. But I decided to search yelp to see what was open at late hours. I was very surprised to come across this place, which showed they'll be open till midnight. I walked in and found a charming spot that was cozy enough for students to get some studying done, and for other customers to gather together for meet and greet. I realized quickly that I have been stopping at the ups next door many times but never really stopped in this coffee shop. It quickly became a spot i visited when i needed to get some work done, and when i wanted a good cup of latte! I will be returning here for both coffee beans, and for a cup of fresh coffee. The owner is extremely nice, a friendly older gentleman who always greets you with a smile. This place gives you a welcoming vibe and i am all for it. read more

I have been living on the southside of Jacksonville for years now and just discovered this place! Met a friend for coffee/tea here the other night and it was just what we needed. It's tough to find a place that isn't a bar to just chill and catch up that doesn't close before 8pm. I love that this place is open late every night and they offer a variety of treats and drinks (and I even beer and wine). Their tea selection isn't anything fancy, the chamomile tea I had was from Walmart, but also it was only $1.50. Great coffee (chai for me) and hang out spot to relax with friends and family. Came in on a Saturday evening almost 10pm and the hustle and bustle of the crowd was energetic. You had families with kids, students, and large groups of friends relaxing. The best part, they close late! The owner was very friendly and provided great service, plus his drinks were great. Pricing for their coffee is a lot cheaper than other places, with a large espresso only setting you back $2. Drinks are no frill and straight to the point, however their hidden gem of an item is their foccacia sandwich, and the only way I can describe it is if you made pizza using focaccia, folded it in on itself and voila. Delicious. Top tip, people seem to stream into this place in waves, so you might walk into a line 10 deep, with only 1 person making coffee sometimes, so be patient as its worth it!
