Stopped by The Coffee Vault in Galena, Ohio, because if you're going to caffeinate, why not do it in a former bank? I ordered a coffee -- it was good, solid brew -- but apparently, I need a loan officer to locate the creamer station. My cup didn't come with half & half, and after a minute of wandering around looking suspiciously at other people's drinks, I gave up. Not a big deal... I like a little mystery with my caffeine. At 9 AM, the place was absolutely packed -- clearly the spot for locals, commuters, and people who just like the smell of ambition. Despite the crowd, the atmosphere was fun and friendly, and the old bank vault inside was legitimately cool. It's not every day your latte comes with a side of "Great Depression chic." we traveled to Galena and I suggested we try the coffee vault. we were there at 12:30 and they close at 2 pm. my daughter asked for suggestions for sugar free iced coffee and the service worker said "there are the syrups" ok that was slightly rude and not helpful. I also tipped and asked if we were allowed to see what's downstairs and was told yes. As I was getting the pastry for my grand daughter they hung up a employees only sign To the downstairs. A little kindness goes along way and it is a shame this is the impression you get for a first time visit. read more

This place may be a great place for locals but I wasn't a fan. I ordered the Galena Mocha and it seemed very bland. My drink was over $7 for a small and was disappointed that I spent my money on this drink. The establishment is unique and in an old bank. There is downstairs seating but was leaking water and I was worried about mold exposure. Will not return. read more

Such a cute establishment, and in the heart of Galena. The barista's were so kind and made me the perfect drink that I described, a honey vanilla latte. I am reviewing "The coffee Vault" in Alexandria, Ohio. My 6 year old and I were riding bicycles through Alexandria (I have lived in Alexandria for 21 years) and stopped at "The Coffee Vault". We bought one cookie for the 6 year old and asked for 2 glasses of water. Was told the water was $1.00 a glass (no free water). When I received my bill it was $1.25 per glass for the water and $7.00 for the single cookie! The bill total was $10.18 ! When the water up charge was brought to the cashier's attention (she charged us for 24 oz. of water instead of 16oz.) she gave us back 50 cents in cash. There was a non-friendly and non-helpful vibe coming from her and I did feel that there should be a charge for water, especially since we bought a $7.00 cookie. $10.18 for one cookie and 2 glasses of water is ridiculous. The cookie was plastic sealed and literally non edible by a 6 year old or myself. We ate at the previous coffee shop called "Ragamuffins" frequently before it was sold to "The coffee vault". Ragamuffins prices were always priced competitively and fair, their food was excellent, their staff friendly and "small townish". So sad that coffee vault moved into Alexandria. I do not usually review restaurants but everything about this restaurant was disappointing. read more

This is an old bank I am guessing and they use the vault to store supplies. It's in Galena and parking is typically a challenge but can be found. I've tried this place several times because it gets good reviews but I have never left with a feeling that I need to go back. It's extremely busy and inside seating is downstairs and very limited compared to the number of customers. Luckily there is a grassy square with some benches and you can eat or drink outside. The ordering and delivery is chaotic. People are moving out of the way of the door, and each other constantly. The bagel sandwiches are small and nothing special. The last time I visited, my wife's coffee came out 5 minutes before mine and I had to remind someone behind the counter of my order. I'm not sure they even have a system for fulfilling orders as in house patrons orders get mixed with online orders (which is another spatial issue as the baristas make their way through the crowd to place to go online orders on a shelf exactly the same place everyone is waiting). My last order was also incorrect as I asked for a 24oz shaken espresso and received a 16oz. Since it was 5 minutes since my wife's order and she was waiting outside, I just took it and left. I won't be back. Coffee shops are a dime a dozen and there is nothing special here. read more

Another great visit. This time around I had the tried and true Galena mocha. It was pleasantly sweet and had a nice balance of flavors. I also got a chocolate chip pecan scones, and it was incredible! I'm a sucker for a good scone, and these had the right crunch on the outside while still being soft on the inside. You can always rely on good drinks, food, and service at this adorable spot in Galena. read more

This coffee shop lives up to the great reviews. I will dream about their iced lattes. Located on a pretty town square in Galena right next door to Galena Diner and Son of Thurman. They have off street parking and a little outdoor patio. The downstairs seating is also open again. Staff is very friendly and the coffee is sooo good. They also have monthly seasonal special drinks. This month it is blueberry cobbler latte or s'mores latte. This is a short drive from Alum Creek and Polaris. Loved it! read more

I had previously visited a few years ago and remember a delicious cinnamon roll and cup of coffee. I visited this morning and was very disappointed. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches and both were ice cold in the middle. Probably would've asked for a warm up if the employees weren't so unfriendly (literally tossing our bag of food on the counter without saying anything and walking away). The basement has cute seating and there's a nice patio but I don't think I'd visit again. read more

I try to stop in when I can. Great place! Coffee is really good. I think I paid like $5.75-$6.75 for the larger size coffee. Which was twice the amount you'd get at Starbucks for that price. They have alot of good was to customize your coffee. I do wish that had something other than the container you get at the store for the creams. I just feel like it would look better to not just hand the creamer carton to the customer, but have a creamer holder labeled for the customer to use instead. Aside from the it's a very cute cafe. They have some merch, ground coffee you can buy. I think I noticed some price tags on some of the art. So the art might be for sale I may be mistaken I took a at quick glance. This place is great! If you haven't been I'd highly suggest a visit. The shop is in the old Galena bank and they still have the vault door, which is really cool. The staff are super nice and the food and drinks are delicious. I got a 16 oz. iced mocha, a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin and a lemon muffin. I know, I know this is really out of the way for basically everyone. I only stumbled across this little village square by taking the wrong turn and driving way too long before I realized it. But this coffee shop is so charming and absolutely worth visiting. It's next to a diner and the new son of thurman's, and there's the mudflats boardwalk to check out. You can actually sit inside the vault, or check out the retail goods they sometimes have set up in there. There's also cozy seating a fireplace in the basement. I try to go once a week to enjoy a scone and coffee, or some other local treat the sell. And there's a decent amount of retail, coffee and tea, mugs and shirts, and they sell some books by a local author that take place in Galena. I'm halfway through his first book and it's most definitely worth buying if you visit. But most importantly, their drinks are really good and they have an almost overwhelming variety of flavors to choose from. read more

I love the coffee vault... it's an old bank turned coffee shop and has a small but charming upstairs where you can order yummy classic and seasonal drinks as well as some breakfast options (I love the muffins) and the down stairs is cozy and inviting! The stairs to get down are a little scary, but you can go out the front and come back in the side to access it a little easier. The girls working behind the counter are always super friendly and you get your order pretty quick. Galena has such charm and this is the perfect little spot! read more

Always an amazing experience! I can't believe I've never left a review for The Coffee Vault! My wife and I frequent this coffee shop because of the atmosphere, friendly service, and amazing coffee and food! The Coffee Vault is such a unique place. They have seating upstairs, downstairs, and a little patio out back (covered by shade). They were unfortunately cleaning the downstairs area for closing today, but we were able to find a table out on their patio! I ordered the special of the month - Salted caramel cold brew with chocolate cold foam. I will literally NEVER go back to Starbucks or any chain coffee shop after trying their cold foam! The salted caramel isn't overpowering, but is delicious! The cold brew is smooth and refreshing! I also ordered the chicken salad on a croissant. Again... never disappointing! I don't know who was toasting the croissants, but they deserve a trophy! The croissant was perfectly toasted. The chicken salad is also absolutely amazing! In need of a coffee shop where I could meet a co-worker, he suggested The Coffee Vault, and I have to say that this hidden gem did not disappoint! The staff was fast, friendly, and clearly very well trained, as they expertly crafted our various coffee orders. The drinks themselves were reasonably priced, looked good, and tasted even better! Another outstanding attribute of The Coffee Vault was how seamlessly they incorporated all the accoutrements of a modern coffeehouse with the building's historic banking past. There are very few 5-star establishments listed on Yelp that I walk into and think "wow, this is truly a 5-star business" but The Coffee Vault is absolutely one of them. The Coffee Vault is a true gem! I don't frequent Galena often, but coming here would be worth the trip. (The Coffee Vault isn't far from Polaris Mall and The Outlets, by the way.) The cutest Galena coffee shop that is still open for carry out! You can't sit inside at the moment, but from reading other reviews it sounds like there is seating area downstairs. It was roped off when I was there. There's also a cute square out front with benches or you're in easy walking distance of the Mudflats boardwalk which is what I opted to do! Another good option would be parking down the road on the bike path and either biking or walking to the shop! I visited the Coffee Vault for one reason, to get some of Alyssa's Healthy Donuts which they stock each week! We tried the strawberry and the expresso but I don't think you would be disappointed with any of the flavors. I also ordered a Frozen Galena Mocha which was delicious! Enjoyed my visit to The Coffee Vault. We got: - Vanilla latte - Caramel latte - Chicken salad croissant - Breakfast sandwich (jalapeño bagel, sausage, egg) The lattes were pretty good. The chicken salad croissant was not my favorite. It did not have a lot of flavor and there was a lot of mayonnaise. My fiancé got the breakfast sandwich and liked it. I don't want to get too deep on here, but should we have regrets? Probably not, because we should keep moving forward, not backwards, but I have one: never experiencing The Coffee Vault. Why did I wait so long?!? We're moving in a few weeks and I've passed by this gem a few times and now I'm kicking myself. The Coffee Vault moved into Galena a little over a year ago. Prior to the vault, it was an antiques shop, and prior to that it was an old bank. The ambiance in The Vault is a neighborhood, cute, hipster, farm house vibe (if there is such a thing). They have a wide variety of coffee drinks, breakfast items, etc. on their menu. I opted to order their Galena mocha (caramel and white chocolate) and the nugget got a bagel with butter (we all know this kid doesn't need caffeine). While waiting for our order, we noticed that the vault is a two story coffee house. The upstairs is the actual restaurant/counter service. One of the coolest parts of this place is they kept the original vault door, and you can enjoy your drink/food in that room. Super cool. They also have a spiral staircase that adds to the overall charm of this place. The Galena Mocha was AWESOME. Sweet and rich and just downright delicious. Like I said I wish I had tried this place earlier. They also have a downstairs, which looks like a basement/lounge, equipped with chairs and a fireplace.
