Wow! What a cute little coffee place! My mom and I came to this area on a whim looking for a place to eat after exploring Alum Creek. (Thank you Yelp!) They have a good sized menu of drinks and small plates. It took me a while to pick my drink, but I ended up getting a frozen latte with whipped cream. Really great coffee shop in a unique building. We got lattes and breakfast sandwiches and everything was extremely good. Seeing the old bank vault was very interesting. Excellent coffee, and choices, alongside a friendly staff, with some great sandwich options. The croissant with egg and sausage was really very good. We sat downstairs on the sofa and enjoyed the ambiance down there. We did note someone nursing a coffee and taking a whole table using the WiFi, and the coffee was clearly a long time drank. I do wish people would be a little more mindful as it took a whole table. Cost wise it was a little expensive, but overall was a great experience. The place is an old bank, a fun place to visit regardless. They also do order ahead, but that was a little clunky through some kind of Toast interface. A beautiful old bank turned coffee shop. The bank vault is still there. The chai tea latte is delicious, it is creamy and spicy. I was hoping there would be some different varieties of baked goods, but the case was small with a few muffin and cinnamon roll offerings. Super cute and busy place. Today marked our second visit to the Coffee Vault. We were here around a year ago, and enjoyed our cups of joe, but we simply hadn't made it back until today. We were initially planning on just getting coffees, but my girlfriend saw egg sandwiches on the menu, and after a fellow customer overheard and said "all their food is great," we decided to split an egg sandwich on a croissant. The shop was busy, but we decided to eat in anyhow. There are a dozen or so tables on the lower level, after you descend a rather precarious spiral staircase. I ordered a Galena mocha (white chocolate and caramel), and my girlfriend ordered a toffee nut latte. I liked my drink more than my girlfriend did. I'm not a big fan of One Line coffee, and I can't help but wonder if they could strike up a partnership with Backroom Coffee, who roast in Galena. In any event, the croissant sandwich was exceptional. Truly excellent...as in "let's plan to go back soon for another" level. And that's really all there is to say: good coffee, cool shop, great food. read more

A darling of a coffee shop in old town Galena inside an old bank building. It was packed at 11am with plenty folks waiting to place their order. Latte was delicious and the food menu and baked good look awesome but I want to bring a friend to share them with next time. I got a decaf drip coffee. My brother got a regular coffee. Both were not very good. We drink black coffee as a general rule. We added cream and sugar and it still wasn't palatable. I went to exchange mine for a totally different drink, as I had only a few sips out of it. They wouldn't just charge me the difference or refund our money. Girls working didn't even know what a pour over was. Not impressed with the coffee at all. But a cute place. Very muggy in the bottom area. Stairs not easy to navigate. If you have any issues with walking, this place is not good for you. read more

The only reason the rate is lower is because they over charge on mild modifiers or extra shots. It's $1.40 to get almond milk or oat milk. And their extra shots are $2. In contrast Starbucks is only $0.70. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing and I like their comfortable seating. It is a small space downstairs but cozy and they have a small patio. The on hand coffee beans they sell are great too. I love supporting local businesses but I just wish they didn't up-charge so much. It's not the spot I go for a quick coffee pick up. We go there regularly enough, and usually like it and the food/drinks a lot. That being said, the past two times it was quite busy, and the person on the espresso machine was the slowest employee there. That normally is ok I guess, this time I had somewhere to be, and it took forever. The operator carefully wiped all the microscopic coffee grains off the filter basket holder, and watching just how long that alone took was painful.Two guys waiting also were disgruntled, when they finally got their coffee they wished me "good luck". Would have been even longer except a young woman customer who must have been an employee stepped up and started whipping out the blended drinks and other stuff. Put her on the espresso machine please. Normally love the young people working there, but during peak hours perhaps someone on the coffee who can hustle would be preferable. read more
