Jed has been my stylist for years now and he does an amazing balayage. My hair is super fine and it can easily feel very thin. He works magic with it and he is the best! I always feel like he accomplishes exactly the best cut and color that compliments my facial structure and skin tone best- and when I ready for a major change/pick-me-up, he comes up with a whole new style spur of the moment that I love even more! I followed Josh White from his old salon because he's the best in Seattle. I recommend him to friends & family. I have long, naturally dish watery blonde hair which he manages to make look naturally a pretty blonde. Even better is that I'm a little lazy - ok a lot - about maintenance and he does such a great job that I can go a solid three months between appointments without having obvious roots. He cuts and colors equally well, which is also nice because so many stylist can't do both well. Steven Barrett gives the best men's hair cut in Seattle and should honestly be charging 50%-100% more for them.

Pros: They have free consultation time for 15 minutes where in you can go before booking an appointment for your hair and can talk and discuss what you are looking for and what would best suit you. Cons: Lack of transparency and miscommunication. Even when they realized that they did not communicate clearly, they weren't ready to do anything about it knowing that I was very disappointed. I am not going to recommend this place to any of my friends. Here's my story: I had to get touch up for my hair. I booked an appointment for consultation. It went good. We discussed about colors and different options I had. I just wanted to be sure about the price so I asked the stylist what would be the the total cost for getting touch up. He told me it is going to be $70 and up the extra color they use. I was fine with it and then he suggested me I get a haircut as I had split ends. I just got my hair cut done 2 months back and I was in no mood to trim my hair. I asked if there was extra charge. He told me it is included. So, I booked an appointment for getting color done. I went to this place on the day of appointment. Everything went well. Got my color done and then stylist asked me how should I get the hair cut done. I really didn't want my hair to be cut. I just asked to trim at the ends (one straight trim at the ends with no style or trims anywhere in between) and the bangs. He could see I was in no mood to shorten my hair but just as it was complimentary with cut (which I thought was, as communicated to me), I thought I would get it done. I had also read on their website page that bangs were complimentary for regular customers. So, I finished my touch up and everything and went to pay at the reception. AND they said 160$. I was really SHOCKED. How could the price shoot the price from 70 to 160? I was so pissed off. I told them the hair stylist had told me it was going to be 70$ plus extra color they use and I was here just for touch up. They called the stylist and he told me yes, it was 70 plus extra color and haircut. I had expected extra color to be max 20-25$ so I had somewhere in mind I will pay under 100$. I told him I didn't ask for hair cut and that he had told me it everything would be done for $70. I explained at the reception and to the stylist that it was just for one straight trim at the ends and bangs. I mean I didn't even want a haircut. I could have gone to some other place and got the bangs and trim for $10 and here you are charging me extra 60$ or so. They could see how disappointed I was. At one point they decided to discount $10. Hah!!! Then stylist and the receptionist went on to discuss something and said its $160. They just made sorry faces, didn't do anything about it in-spite of the fact they knew how disappointed I was. read more

I have gotten countless comments about both my cut and color over the years and I love it! I've been going to Lisa for probably close to 10 years and to Andrea for about 7. I know I can count on a great experience every time. Andrea and Lisa are the dynamic duo of color and cutting - not to mention super nice and fun to chat with while you're in their chairs! Not only are they wonderfully talented, but they both genuinely love what they do which is what makes all the difference. I happily recommend them every chance I get!! Andrea does perfect color that grows out beautifully. You never have to worry about "roots" with her skilled touch at balyage where she paints in the most gorgeous highlights. I went here for the first time on Saturday, feeling I was taking a risk as I had never been there and didn't know any of the hair people there. Coco cut my hair and did a truly awesome job -- clearly understood what I was looking for and how far out of my comfort zone I was willing to go (meaning how short). His cut makes me feel both professional and a little edgy at the same time -- not an easy mix. Then Nidia highlighted my hair using balayage which I had never experienced before, and she did a fantastic job too. I was really struck by how NICE everyone who works there is, and also by the physical space, and by the fact that it's dog-friendly but not in an in-your-face way. I get the feeling that the owners are very involved day-to-day and have created a really good culture there. All in all, a wow experience. I'll definitely go back. read more

Mari did my hair, my bridesmaids' hair, my mom's hair, and my mother-in-law's hair for my wedding on Saturday, and she was absolutely wonderful. First, I went in to Collage for a trial. I had no idea what I wanted, other than simple and elegant, but she took the time (about half an hour longer than my scheduled time, in fact) to work with me and figure it out. Then, on Saturday, she came to the hotel where we were getting ready and did everyone's hair. My wedding party was similarly difficult--nobody knew what they wanted, but she worked with each person to find something that suited them perfectly. Mari was a great listener and really worked with us to figure out what would suit us and suit our hair. When I told her that my hair doesn't hold curls, she worked with me to find something beautiful and architectural that looked wonderful. When the best woman said that her hair gets frizzy and doesn't stay straight, Mari actually took a curling iron to it and defined the curl better (first time in the best woman's life her hair had been curled!) and it looked smashing all night. Mari even made beautiful little decorative pins to put in my hair that set everything off perfectly! She did my make-up, too, and everything was simple and light, just the way I liked it. The only downside to the whole experience was actually that she had everyone's hair done so quickly, we were way ahead of schedule and ended up waiting around for my mom and one of the bridesmaids to show up, which was a little stressful. I'd rather have her be ahead of schedule than behind, though. I'm normally a Fantastic Sams kind of girl, but after working with Mari, I'm scheduling an appointment with Collage for my first salon haircut. It was a little more money than we had initially planned on spending, but she was well worth the cost. read more

The Collage is a fantastic salon. I love that it is bustling, but not a "conveyor belt" salon. I like that the person who washes my hair is also the one who cuts or colors it and blows it out. Lisa does an amazing cut. Taylor does a fantastic color and blowout. And everyone is friendly and service oriented. From the receptionist who saw me at a nearby Starbucks and remembered my name, to the stylist who consulted on a challenge with the brand of color that I like, everyone is friendly and wonderful. I have now had my hair colored by Jedediah and Taylor and they are both wonderful. I especially enjoy them because they have very "chill" energy and conversation flows naturally and casually, making a 2+ hour appointment easy to enjoy. I came in to have my roots touched up with Sydeny. My appointment was scheduled for 8am & I was instructed to show up 15 minutes early. When I arrived the salon was closed. I sat outside waiting to be let in, until another client arrived & called her stylist on their personal cell to let us in (this was after 8am). After being let into the salon, I sat and waited for them to finish setting up before they were ready to see me (meaning my appointment started closer to 8:30am). My service took about 3 hours (just for a root touch up). Then, I left with tiger stripes on the top of my head. You can see a very obvious line where the new highlights end (where Sydney tried to touch my roots up) and the old highlights start. I asked the owner, Lisa, for a partial refund and she declined. She explained I left looking happy (she concluded this from her security video footage not actually seeing me or speaking to me. She was not there). The quality of service I received was not up to the stands of a "professional salon" that The Collage is claiming to be. My parents have owned an Aveda salon (out of state) for the past 12 years. Therefore, I am very familiar with procedures/best practices and VERY disappointed on how the owner Lisa handled this situation. read more
