After seeing what Paul's visions have done for some friends of ours, my wife and I decided to give Paul a chance to perform some hair repair on us. The other Yelpers are right, Paul isn't one to whip you through like a factory, asking "What are we doing for you today?" He listens to your thoughts and what you've got in mind, but is the first person I've ever been to that will say "I think we should try this..." or "This is something that's great about your hair and you're not letting it happen." I absolutely adore my stylist at the Colour Room, Lynzie Smith. I followed her here from Studio Within and plan to stick with her for a very long time. I have wavy/curly hair and would get Deva Cuts in New York at DevaChan and had been trying to find a stylist in Chicago that gave me comparable results. I can honestly say Lynzie is not only as good, but better than any of the stylists I had in New York. In addition to her doing a great job with my hair, Lynzie is super sweet. It's always nice to see her which is not something I could say about all my prior stylists. I have recommended Lynzie to friends and co-workers who have also loved their results with her. I'm a sucker for coupons and good deals. $25 off for new customers of Paul Douglas? I'm there. The salon is small, but warm. Everyone there is so friendly and happy! It's great. When I took my hair down, the first thing Paul said was, "Oh my. We have to do something about this." I sighed in relief. Usually stylists just stare blandly and ask what I want. Paul offered some suggestions, then asked what I thought. I told him I loved his ideas, but I was concerned about the bangs he suggested. I've thought about getting bangs for a long time, but every stylist I've seen says they can't work with my cowlick in front. Paul made a face. "What? Who said that? You can have whatever you want and look fabulous!" And with those nine words, Paul won me over instantly. Everything he suggested was perfect. It was as if he had read my mind about what I wanted, and then improved it 10 times. Perhaps we connected on some deep level, but probably it was just because he's a genius. Love this salon, it's quaint, stylish and welcoming. I was searching reviews for top colorist and this salon came up along with Matt. I reached out to Matt we had a few pre-salon text to discuss my goals he was extremely helpful, requested photos, shared photos, we had a plan. Matt is such a kind human who is crazy talented in both his color techniques and his cutting techniques. Wasn't going in for a cut, as I was growing out from a bad hair cut. Matt suggested we clean up the ends which looked fried the end result perfection. Matt did not disappoint exceeded all my expectations as I am very particular. I was so heart broken when my old salon closed down, but I'm so glad because I wouldn't have found my way to Megan. I love how with The Colour Room you speak directly to your stylist which not a lot of salons do. Megan squeezed me into her busy schedule and gave me EXACTLY what I wanted and more. I have had super long hair for most of my life and I'm not sure if it was this gray winter, my hair constantly getting caught in my jacket zipper or a combination of both, but I was SO ready for a change. Now, although I was ready for a change, I was still a tad frightened about leaving my comfort zone with a short hairstyle. I made an appointment with Amy Larmon and from the moment I walked in, my fears dissipated. She was confident enough for both of us that it was going to look fabulous and before I knew it, 10 inches were gone. She obviously cared about my hair and was very precise and thorough, cutting and re-cutting with different techniques to get the perfect "movement" in my hair. When I got home, I posted a picture of my new cut on FB and let me tell you--I have never seen such a positive response to a picture of myself in my life! Everyone loves the new haircut, but more importantly, I'm in love with my new look. I am lucky to have gotten an appointment with Amanda Moss, and now I never need to worry about finding a good hairdresser ever again, as long as she is in business! I came to Amanda after a couple of bad cuts, so I had some concerns. She took the time to listen to my whole sob story, then she repeated back to me what she heard and asked me if she correctly understood what kind of cut I wanted. She was very patient and very professional, and I got an amazing cut that was exactly what I wanted! To make things even better, Amanda is very friendly, talkative, and charming, which makes going to the salon a very enjoyable experience. The Colour Room is decorated in calming tones, and I felt very relaxed the whole time I was there. I love Kristin my stylist! She always knows exactly what to do. I had not colored my hair in years, and went in for some highlights last spring. I have dark hair naturally, so I didn't want to come out looking trashy. She knew exactly what I meant with a "sun kissed look". I loved it! When fall rolled around and I wanted to go back natural, she did an all over dye with a mix of low lights (which I wouldn't have thought to do...) and still love it 6 weeks later! Also nice I don't have to get colored as often as with the highlights :) I definitely recommend this salon as well as Kristin! I was out in less than 2 hours for an all over foil and her blow out was really amazing. It is very rare that I feel I walk out a salon with a great looking hair, but she NAILED IT!!!!!!!! I went and saw Lynzie about a week ago for my first ever Devacut. She did an amazing job! The shape of my haircut really works well with my curly hair. I had a lot of interest in the Devacurl products, and she spent the time explaining each step, cut to finish. I'm still playing around with the products, but I know with the knowledge Lynzie gave me, my curls will look great. I've got the roots pinned as we speak! This was my first time getting any kind of color on my hair - I've been very lucky to have maintained my bright blonde pretty well into my early 30s but finally decided that from my roots down a few inches started looking a little too dull even with purple shampoos. I found a deal for partial highlights with Amy, and decided if I was going to try highlights, I might as well get it on a deal. I was nervous, especially going to a new stylist on top of it all. Well, I walked out of there with partial highlights at my roots that could not have possibly better matched my natural hair color further down, and a new hair cut that is working SO RIDICULOUSLY WELL for me right now. Really had a great experience here with my first balayage done by Nicole. It turned out beautiful and I went back a few days later for a haircut and just to add a few lowlights into my hair to contrast the blonde balayage. The haircut turned out incredible, one of the best cuts I've gotten in a long time. Nicole did a great job with the layering, which was spot on and my hair feels lifted with more volume. The severs lowlights brought perfect contrast to the balayage that was done initially. I've been accustomed to highlights and lowlights but this method is not as streaky looking. I've been everywhere along the price spectrum from the $5 buzzcut places west on Montrose to more expensive salons that I'm embarrassed to admit I paid for. Amanda is by far the best. I've been coming to see her since 2009 and have always been very pleased with the way she cuts my hair as well as her advice on what works/looks good/should be avoided. She also was able to match the haircut that I wanted from a picture from an ad. Additionally, Amanda is one of the warmest, sincerest people I've met and I truly appreciate that. Natalie is the best! It has been almost a year since I decided to start growing my pixie out into a longer style, and I have been so lucky to have Natalie's help along the way. As anyone who has ever attempted the pixie grow out knows, your hair is almost constantly in a changing state of awkward. A few times I would get a cut thinking that there was absolutely nothing that could be done with this awkward mess and somehow she would make it look great. Now that it has grown into a bob she has been giving me the most perfect haircuts I could have ever imagined.
