Unbelievably good! The quality of the food and service here are so great. The ambiance was wonderful. Holy moly the food here is great. It's something I didn't really expect in a small town. We are from Denver and we don't have such good food. I had the Wagyu New York steak. Now I have had so called Wagyu NY steak that was tuff as leather but as soon as I cut into this I knew it was different. I almost didn't need a knife. I also had the corn and potato chowder which was just a burst of flavor. We also had the Burrato and roasted pear flatbread and both were unbelievably good. This is a high end restaurant in a small town with small town prices. A must go to if your in town or even worth the drive from Bozeman. read more

First visit to the Continental Divide after several stays in Ennis. In short: ... Incredible!! We shared the Tomato Mozzarella salad and was perfect. Pam had the Scallops and she commented maybe best ever. Nicely sauteed and dressed with a bit of roe with a nice Huckleberry demi glace that added to the wonderful favor. I had the Montana fresh Lamb Chops finished medium rare. Absolutely delicious. Enough said. Mixed veggies done perfectly ... al dente. Service was impeccable. Thanks Jennifer!! Great wine list. We had the Cameron Hughes Cabernet at $34/bottle and was excellent. In Ennis? Gotta try it! Oh, the chef actually came out to talk to us. Nice touch. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem located in Ennis Montana. Every member of the staff was very welcoming and friendly, the dining area had a very homey feel. Chef John came out and met us before our meal began, when the meal came out it exceeded expectations everything was cooked to perfection and perfectly balanced with texture and flavor. We again got to speak with chef John and we discussed the choices for dessert which again exceeded expectations. As summer residents of the Madison Valley we were happy to hear of the reopening of the Continental Divide. All I can say is our visit left us with no desire to return. My wife ordered the Beet Salad and was immediately disappointed. The menu lists the salad as Roasted Beets on a bed of greens. Instead it was a pile of greens with a few raisin sized pieces of beet hidden in the greens. My wife questioned the server who defended the salad saying that is how it is made and that it is "very good". I had the wedge salad, it was okay but not spectacular. The dressing on the wedge salad had a 1000 island appearance but fortunately tasted more like blue cheese. On the entree's my wife had the scallops and judged them well seasoned and properly cooked but found the sauce sweet and not to her liking. My Elk Back Strap was quite good. The side dish of potatoes, pancetta, Napa cabbage had no Napa cabbage in it. A fresh vegetable option for low carb diet would be nice as an option. I suspect with the beet salad and the elk side dish that the restaurant ran out of ingredients, since the Halibut was not available either. I am sad to write this low rated review, as I want the restaurant to Excell. Be careful in reading the glowing 5 star reviews as many of them are from 2016 or earlier and this is a new group in 2019. I will probably give them another try next year and hope they have the logistics of running a restaurant in rural Montana solved, and some low/no carb options available. Not sure if I can convince my wife to go back. read more

The main courses are stars but the side dishes could be a main course for many. Went to C.D. a few nights after newly arrived Chef John and the new and returning team opened for the season. The Bentley Burger, named for the original C.D. founder, was on our mind. At $28, the price caught our attention, but don't be put off. It was worth it. This is about the most decadent meal in sandwich form anywhere. Foie gras, portabella mushroom, fried green tomato (amazing), and incredible cheese and excellent onion jam layered under and on top of outstanding beef. Think steak with foie gras served in a package. The only newly-opened kitchen flaw was the less than perfect fries, which didn't live up to the price. But the grilled salad, another winner, more than made up for it. Service was a little uneven. Good wine list. Can't wait for return trips. And word is they will now be open year round...score a win for the Ennis foodie scene. read more

Unexpected DELICIOUSNESS in this small town. The wine list was impressive. A chablis we ordered had the hallmark of Kermit Lynch on the label. Our table ordered the panko-crusted oysters with a spicy remoulade and the crab tarte, also served with a delicious, spicy sauce. The sauces were amazing... well spiced, complex, and complementary with the food. For dinner, we all ordered different entrees. Tossed up between the bison rib eye (with Wisconsin bison) and the steak au poivre (with Montana beef), our waitperson strongly suggested the beef, medium-rare. I had NO regrets. My husband had the elk with huckleberry sauce. AMAZING. Not gamey at all. The huckleberry sauce was more of a fine reduction. This chef knows his sauces. Our other two companions had the duck and the lamb. Both were very satisfied. We could not pass on dessert. My very acceptable cappuccino accompanied my choice of the Valrhona chocolate cake, which was delicious; not too sweet. I must say though, the Grand Marnier cheesecake was off the charts amazing with a dark chocolate cookie crust. Also, the limoncello cake was moist and delicious. I asked our waitperson if there was a pastry chef, and was told that no, the chef makes *everything* himself. Incredibly accomplished and impressive to do both savory and sweet so well. Does this man ever sleep? I will certainly make a point of dining here on any future visits to Montana that I may be so fortunate to have. read more

We had a group of girlfriends go there for dinner last week. Wow! The decor and table settings were divine! The hostess Abby was so welcoming and friendly, she instantly made us comfortable. The waitress was prompt and very friendly. We had the scallop appetizer, and the burrata. They were spot on! The chef even served our dinner! The walleye was a real treat and cooked to perfection! The other reviewers are quite correct. The service here is terrible. But it was easy to tell that you could get better service if you are a) a local, or b) served by a different waitress. We arrived for our reservation and stood awkwardly by the door as a waitress rushed past us and ignored us completely. The other waitress passed a few minutes later and said she'd be right with us. Unfortunately, when she did seat us, it was with the first waitress who was unfriendly, inattentive, and apparently unconcerned with whether our meal was as we requested. The waitress who seated us also brought us our food, so the lady we (hesitantly) tipped did little more than take our order and open our screw cap wine (never did she top us off). Which leads to complaint #2... The wine list is exorbitantly overpriced, with 100%+ mark-ups on the bottles. Our $50 bottle of Ponzi goes for $20-25 on the street, and that was about the most reasonable option. The food was good. I liked my elk tenderloin a lot, and the polenta was a great pairing. My wife didn't care for the roasted duck, saying it tasted more like turkey. Dessert was forgettable (as in I really have forgotten what we had). A few menu items were a touch pricier than they should have been (the Caesar salad especially), but that would have been tolerable if we didn't feel like we were inconveniencing our waitress with our presence. I wouldn't return. We had other dining experiences in town that were more favorable. read more

I ate here several times between 2008 and 2006. We loved it every time we were there, even in the new building. I never had a problem with the service, so I don't know what all that is about. I know the menu is just amazing for a place as out of the way as Ennis. Elk, duck, bison, venison... real Montana game. It was expensive, but it was that kind of place. You expect those prices at a place like that. I'm really surprised to hear the comments about the poor service because they were always great when we were there and I'm pretty sure they are the same people. Do not go here unless you want to be screwed. I came in after a long day fishing and wanted only a salad. The Caesar salad was listed as $9. I was not very hungry so ordered only the salad but asked for a dinner sized portion and asked to add tomatoes. The waitress was lovely and said fine. She did not mention the price. The salad was quite good and well sized, but when the bill came the salad was $19. I complained and said that if I had known I would not have ordered it. She said it was because of the "quality of the ingredients" and because the rest of the menu had high prices. She didn't offer any sort of compromise. The food was good, but that sort of screwing your customer is just rude. You can do better. read more

Eric Trapp, the owner/chef , does a fabulous job with spices, presentation, wine choices, etc. I've never been disappointed, whether my choice is rack of lamb, escargot, bison or walleye. His diverse background in culinary training always translate into amazing dishes and experiences for us as patrons. The elk t bone and the duck are tied to be my favorite. Oh so flavorful and juicy. On my recent trip to Montana I heard about the great food the new chef was putting out especially the rib eye steak , we were pleasantly greeted by not 1 but 2 servers working as a team , to ensure our great service ! We began with a sliced short rib and cabbage appetizer which had a great tangy flavor ! Then we had the wedge salad which was very good followed by beautiful rib eye steak charred medium rare to perfection ! How tender ! What a treat . The lobster macaroni was icing on the cake ! Lucky for us , chef Jason even came to our table to see how everything was ! His passion for food and service is a breath of fresh air. Thank you all for a wonderful evening ! The Continental Divide never disappoints. The Continental Divide, is a unique blend of casual elegance, cheeky ease, and epicurean delights of the Big Sky Country. An authentic bistro, the Continental Divide is located in a log cabin with an array of seating options including indoor seating in the cozy lodge as well as outdoor seating on the veranda with unobstructed views of the Madison mountains. We have eaten at this restaurant for 10 + years, sometimes taking trips from the Austin, Texas area just so we can visit this fabulous Madison Valley favorite. Proprietor/ Chief Eric Trapp's seasonally driven menu deliberately defies classification. For starters, everyone's appetizers were sent around just for the sheer enjoyment of figuring out how the chef put together such beautiful flavors. Personal favorites are the Escargots a' La Burgundian and the Baked Brie in Phyllo over cool Pear Puree; the flavors are fused in such a way that they were perfectly aligned. For entrees, we battled it out for whose was the best. I announced at the first bite that anyone at the table could taste my sauce, but they had to stay away from the protein. It was so tender, well sauced, and mouth tingling that I just could not get any Christmas spirit up to share. If you have never tried Slow Roasted (7 Hours) Long Island Duck, you have to get this entree. I absolutely loved the smooth, savory flavor of the Duck with the seductive surprise of the Apricot Mango Glaze. Wow! ...and there are way to many wines to choose from, the meal was nothing short of memorable, superb, divine. How many restaurants do you go to and remember exactly what you had, how it tasted, how it paired with wine... just so special. What a find! After all the steaks and Montana meat restaurants, this restaurant was wonderful. We went there for our anniversary and it was as good as we would expect in a large city. The calamari was as good as we would find at Monterey or another beach town. We had the walleye and the bison short ribs. Spices were tasty and well balanced. The CD never disappoints. It embodies Montana in both spirit and food. The Owner/Chef's (Eric Trapp) passion for the outdoors and Montana inspire his dishes. Took my visiting sister and bro-in-law there last night after discovering Banditos is closed on Mondays. Was worried about the prices as my husband and I only go there on our anniversary. However, the 3 of us figured out how to enjoy without overspending. We had Jennifer as our server and she was very accommodating and encouraging. We each got a glass of wine (Malbec was very good) and split a steamed artichoke (addictive!) All got caesar salads (nice bite to dressing) Then my sis/bil split ($5 split fee) the lamb chops (good demiglaze and polenta) and I got the soft shell crab appetizer as my entree. No dessert. With that and tip, we paid $124 and felt we had Indulged reasonably for a gourmet meal. I won't be scared off again. Treat yourself. You'll remember your meal for a long time. read more
