He said he wouldn't have time to add custom decorations, but I had an idea and had him frost 11 in green and 1 in red. When I picked them up on Saturday, he added two cookies to the box. I also ordered a meat pie and a kofta wrap and while I was waiting, he gave me two pieces of warm baklava, fresh from the oven! Absolutely delicious. When everything was ready, he carried it out to my car for me, since I had the stroller. He's such a kind man. And oh my gosh... possibly the best cupcakes I've ever had. The frosting was light and more buttery than sweet. I usually take the frosting off of cupcakes but I didn't this time because it was just too good. The lemon curd center was tangy and just the right level of sweetness. I will return to Michael's for every birthday/anniversary/party from now on. Oh and that meat pie is going to live in my brain forever. So aromatic and delicious... I got it for my husband but had eaten half of it by the time I got home. Whoops!

I ordered a cake tasting box from them for pickup and when I went to pick it up the shop was closed because of an error in their hours on their website. There was no effort to let people know the hours have changed, just closed for the day with zero warning. We've now been going back and forth with them, Jamie in particular, for a refund because at this rate we do not want to work with them for our wedding. I've called, emailed and messaged them on Instagram when I see they are clearly active and online and all of my messages are ignored. Save your money and your wellbeing.

But now that I know they're in Salem, I'll be visiting very soon! The macarons were front and center in the booth, and I kept goggling at how beautiful they were. They are slightly larger macarons with generous fillings and bejeweled shells ($3.75 each). I asked the person manning the booth what her favorites were (sugar cookie and cookie dough), but I still had trouble deciding which to try, there were so many unique flavors. She was very helpful though. Macarons are generally gluten free, but some flavors had cookie or cake crumbs and were labeled as containing gluten (fyi all served in the same case). These macarons were certainly not dairy free, but I decided to try them anyways; they were way too tempting. The Tall Man and I ended up getting a guava and a gingerbread macaron. His dad got a pistachio and a cosmic brownie (typical brownie vs the peppermint version). If I had known he was going to get some, it would have made more sense to get a half dozen. Macarons aren't cheap cookies, but they were certainly worth it. The guava was the plainest in appearance and taste. It wasn't decorated, and only the shell was flavored not the cream; it was too subtle and could have used a jam. The gingerbread was my favorite of our choices, spicy and not overly sweet with a nice textural crunch with the mini gingerbread sprinkles. The cosmic brownie had fun chunky sprinkles and a very fudgy texture, which was more brownie than macaron like (probably intentionally), but the taste was like a typical brownie so I would get something different next time. I didn't get to try the pistachio, but my father in law enjoyed it, and he doesn't even like cookies. Everything on display was beautifully fun to look at. I was also intrigued by their hot chocolate bombs and cake jars, but more as eye candy since they were full of gluten and dairy (but would make for great gifts!).

Paying $300 for a small sheet cake and expecting a white sharp edged well made shipping box with my boyfriends logo and a shipping label on it and I get a rounded edge dark brown cake. I've seen so many beautiful shipping box (mostly Amazon) that are nice square edged box cakes (in the correct color brown). I am so disappointed to show a room full of 80 of his friends this weird looking cake that I dropped $300 on expecting it must look amazing for that price label. I never write a review, but this is really an unfair situation that I can't go and fix myself and for a really special event it's pretty upsetting. I have attached my email to this business owner along with her reply.. which says it all. (See photos for email to owner and her unprofessional response and a pic of her work "for my records" that only further backs my issue. Since professionalism is clearly out the window I'd love to just mention that had I asked for a warm pretzel the color would have been spot on, there's no way I could take this cake to a 40th birthday party and she knows that.)

Unfortunately I did not. I ordered 2 dozen cupcakes to be arranged to look like a cake. I provided a picture to be put on the cake. I also ordered a dozen gluten free cupcakes. The gluten free were dried out, crumbly and MINI, not even full size. The regular cupcakes were a hot mess. They weren't fresh and they tasted stale. She iced them individually when she told me she would use fondant with the team picture on top. She charged me $165 for this ridiculousness. $165!!! When I questioned and expressed my dissatisfaction, she went radio silent. Do yourself a favor and find another baker in the area.
