Above-average pub food and a decent drink selection plus its location in the same complex that houses Push Push Theater, Duck's Cosmic Kitchen and the Paste Magazine offices makes this a happening little joint that finds the happy median between good neighborhood bar and hipster magnet. I used to date a guy that lived right around the corner from this joint and I think that was the worst part of breaking up is that I don't get out to the Pub as much anymore. It was one of the best places I've eaten in the city. It's a full bar but with a bad ass menu and even better servers. Entrees are good, salads are chic, sandwiches are creative. I have a thing for BLT sandwiches and the have both the classic and ABCLT - apple slices, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato on their really earthy thick cut wheat bread (or Challah!) It's really a steal for under $10 with a side (their fries are solid or you can get one of those fancy side salads). Plus it's rare that you'll need a refill on tea or soda because they give you those big ass cups like all restaurants should do. The only con was their wine selection isn't that amazing but for a Pub, I happily tried some beers that ended up being very tasty and miss coming here on a regular basis. I go here for lunch - usually at the request of coworkers. So, I'm not surprised to see that they average about 3.5 stars. If I could I would give them a 3.5 star review - but I can't so 3 is all they get. The food is good. Somethings are just okay but I've had some really good food here. The other day we went at lunch and I got the french dip and it was awesome! Also, I've had their side of black eyed peas and sausage. It's awesome! It's cooked in tangy base that I believe is tomato based. But, here is the thing... they are kind of pricey. I know I go at lunch but one time I ordered a quesadilla and asked for salsa and they charged me extra for the salsa. Plus they added like $5 for steak to be added. It's not like I don't expect extra charges but my $7 (I think - I forget the exact price now) turned into like a $14 quesadilla. Not cool. And, I've never been here at night but the lunch service is slow. I don't know if it is just that they are understaffed but we almost always get back to work 10-15 minutes late. I should probably try this at night when time isn't an issue. So, that's it.. food is good-- some items are great, some just okay and I think they are a bit pricey. read more

Unassuming neighborhood pub with good beer and good food. I'd read that the owners focus on fresh and homemade, and it tasted that way for sure. FYI, Mondays are 50% off plates! The ABCLT sandwich (apple, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, mayo) on challah bread is really tasty... the razor-thin crunchy apple slices and the yellow cheddar go perfectly with the classic BLT. My friends' dishes looked really good, too -- the Jerk Chicken Philly sandwich, and the BBQ Plate (good amount of pulled pork, fried okra, and a big hunk of jalapeño cornbread). About the pear slaw -- I tried it out of curiosity, and it wasn't my thing. Way too much heft, chew, and crunch for me; I like a more delicate, finely grated cole slaw. My friend liked it, though, and ate it all for me. The slaw is a mix of carrots and some white crunchy veggie (jicama maybe?) in a light Asian-flavor dressing and black sesame seeds. This is a nice little neighborhood pub in a less-exposed area of Decatur, right by Push Push theater. They have quality pub fare and a decent beer selection on draft, which is all you can reasonably expect from a pub this small. Their patio is small too but nice on a warm summer evening. When I first came here it was for the Wednesday night trivia, which is run by the local trivia-mongers that are in dozens of bars around the city. Even when the place was packed and every seat was filled, the service was quite good and the employees kept it fast and friendly. That impressed me. We went there last night for dinner, and sat outside. The weather was nice, and we enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. This is a nice solid neighborhood bar with a good and interesting beer selection and simple but tasty food options. We both tried beers we had never had before, which is unusual. The beer selection included a bunch of fun microbrews, and was not huge, but covered all the bases. I had a Hennepin from Upstate New York, and my fiancee had a Sweaty Betty, from Boulder, Colorado. Both beers were excellent. To eat, we started with the nachos. I am somewhat of a nacho aficionado, and I was quite pleased with the nacho plate we were brought. It was simple and fresh, not greasy, and not your typical bar nachos piled way up on the plate. We got ours with the black beans, which were excellent, but cost an extra $1.50. She had a Thai Chicken wrap, which was a special and she really seemed to like. I had the Tuna Tacos, which were good, but not quite what I was expecting, and a little over cooked. The waitress was helpful, but got a little overwhelmed as the evening went on and she had more tables to handle. I never felt under-served though. I wonder, however, if the inside tables had been busier, how the service would have been. I like the atmosphere, decor, and service at Corner Pub. The food is pretty good, but I've never read the menu there and said, "Ooh, that sounds awesome. I'm totally getting that!" I've been here for brunch, dinner, and just beers and always had a good time. Oh, except that one time where we got the last table in the place, sat for 20 minutes, and not a single server came even close enough for us to get his/her attention. It was pretty bizarre, and given our other experiences here, we're sure it was just a fluke. The last time I was here, I had the catfish plate. The breading was well-seasoned and crispy. I added a shit ton of lemon to the fish, not because it needed it, but because I freaking love lemon on fish. There is no such thing as too much lemon for me. The collards had okay flavor, but were really mushy. The cornbread was fine. I always end up enjoying the food I order. But like I said, nothing ever jumps out at me. Monday nights are 50% off entrees -- pretty awesome deal when you can get two fried pork chops with grits and collard greens for about $6. That's exactly what I ended up ordering as a main entree, and it was really good. The pork pieces were breaded and deep fried, and extremely juicy on the inside. The grits and collard greens were also made very well -- surprisingly tasty given that this place is "bar food". Not sure if I would be willing to pay full price for the meal, though, the portions are certainly enough to get you full. I went here after reading the reviews on Yelp. I was sadly disappointed. The food was OK; not bad, but nothing to rave about. The service, however, was horrible! Our server had zero personality, if it were possible to be negative on the personality scale he would have been in that range. We waited more than 5 minutes to be greeted at the table and have our drink order taken, we had the menus out and were ready to order at that time but he walked away. We attempted to get his attention but he did not respond. When he returned about 5 minutes later with our drinks he abruptly dropped them off them walked away without a food or appetizer order again. After another 10 minutes we were able to catch him standing at the end of the bar talking to another server to ask if we could order food. We got our food in a reasonable time, no condiments, no extra anything. We ate what we could then had to walk over to the bar to request to go containers. We also had to ask for our bill. Our server did refill our soft drinks. He did not offer additional bar drinks, desserts, or anything else that would make more profit for the restaurant (upselling). Another side note: When we arrived we noticed a guy that was alternating between sitting at the bar and walking outside to smoke. We wondered if the guy was having some sort of breakdown because he was behaving very strangely, then a short time later we noticed him working in the kitchen. We went in for a late dinner and a beer (during the week) and was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of the menu and good selection of beers. My wife got the butternut slider, which was delicious. We went here for the Avondale homecoming reunion something or other. I really don't know, but the guy that owns it knows my wife, they went to school together. Anyway, Josh is a great guy, had a chance to talk with him a little before he had to run off. First impression, it has a great outdoor area, although it was too cold to sit outside. The bar is L shaped and was real sure where you'd sit if you came for dinner. I suspect there were table near the front, but it was crowded and couldn't see. The rest of the bar, which is very very long, give you some good seating, but IMO not so good for dinner. It works if you are going completely causal and not on a date or something. We didn't eat, since we just left Sage, but there was a good selection of beer and drinks. They have a dart board and a pool table and plenty of TVs ( mostly watched college football while I was there, it wasn't my gig, I knew no one.) read more

Saying the The Corner Pub is in Decatur is like saying a tomato's a fruit - it's not quite true but it's close enough that no one is bold enough to argue the point. That being said, after I discovered The Corner Pub was really closer to Avondale then Decatur, I was quite pleased with the overall experience. I got together with one of my friends there for dinner and since he arrived a couple minutes before me, he snagged a couple of seats at the bar for us. The whole place has a very neighborhood-y feel to it. It seems like a bar you could easily become a "regular" at. We had more than a little trouble getting the bartender's attention that evening, but it wasn't a big deal since we had a good amount of catching up to do. We ended up splitting an appetizer of steamed edamame to start and I ordered the posole verde stew for my main course, while my friend got the Dagwood sandwich. The serving of edamame was generous and it was hot and steaming and sprinkled with sea salt on the shells. Our entrees were good too. Not knowing if the "small" serving of posole verde would fill me up, I threw caution to the wind and ordered the large bowl. Holy guacamole! It probably wasn't necessary - I ate the whole bowl of tender, tender shredded pork, hominy, avocado, broth and one of two soft flour tortillas on the side of the stew without issue, but I didn't really need to. It was really tasty though - hot stew, big portions of meat and avocado and all of it well seasoned. My buddy ate the whole Dagwood (also a substantial behemoth of a sandwich what with the roast beef, turkey, ham, bacon, cheese and mayo) without batting an eye. Again, when our glasses were in need of refreshing, or we were ready for our check, it took some time to get our bartender's attention (plus we didn't catch his name to be able to call out to him). But eventually we accomplished that task as well (and I got my ScoutMob discount, thank you very much). It was fun to try a new place and the grub at the Corner Pub's quite good. The Corner Pub is a fine neighborhood joint. We have visited a few times over the last several months and I enjoy the experience. First, Corner Pub has a great rotating selection of beers. They specialize in local stuff from the city's burgeoning beer scene. There is variety, and a bit for everyone. Whether you prefer an IPA, stout, cider, or lager, you won't be disappointed with what Corner Pub has to offer. In several visits, I've had the opportunity to try a good bit of the menu. It's decent pub food, nothing too fancy. I do appreciate that they take advantage of the Dekalb Farmers Market right down the road as their primary source of ingredients. Everything isn't always executed perfectly, but with fresh ingredients, you have a lot of leeway because the plate will be good anyway. The pimento cheese dip is an interesting take on the southern brunch staple. The addition of goat cheese adds a little extra tang. Jerked wings are good, the tacos are decent, the sliders are thoughtfully assembled. You can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches, and the sides are great. The BBQ Bahn Mi is an unconventional take on the sandwich, but perhaps one of the highlights on the menu. Service is good and what you would expect for a local place. The clientele are largely regulars, but you won't feel unwelcome. The servers are attentive, which is important if your drink is getting low. So yeah, I'm a fan. I wouldn't drive across town to visit the Corner Pub, but it is surely a wonderful addition to the food and drink scene in Decatur. read more

I actually LOVE this place... super-friendly staff, affordable and interesting pub food, free wi-fi, and OOOH PARKING! Admittedly, I was not feeling super adventurous upon arrival... just needed a quick meal and a quiet place to get some work done. After a look through their (fairly large) menu of things that all looked interesting and delicious, I decided that I really just wanted a really good burger and some fries. I came to the right place! The fries here are good, and the burger was delicious. A little greasy, but thick and well-seasoned and delicious. As I was finishing up and getting ready to leave, Zoa (who was my incredibly friendly and awesome waitress) told me about the Salted Caramel Ice Cream, which was a special that day, and told me that they make it in-house. I was basically stuffed already (seriously, the burger is huge), but asked her if she could just give me a half-scoop and volunteered to pay the full price for it. Well, a) I only got charged for half a scoop, and b) it was SOOOOO GOOD. I have never been on the salted caramel train... I know it's trendy and whatever, but I just never got behind it until now. Now it's all I can think about. Salty, sweet, delicious... the ice cream seemed to be mostly homemade vanilla, with a warm, thick, delightful salted caramel sauce. Total perfection. What a great decision. I remembered about the Scoutmob just in time, and ended up paying the tiniest amount of money for my meal. I was so happy! I would totally come back. This place is in the East Decatur Station complex, so not super hard to find, and parking is great, since it's free and they basically have their own lot after 6pm or so. read more

Wikipedia defines a gastropub (or "gastro pub") as a British term for a public house which specializes in high-quality food a step above the more basic "pub grub." I don't know whether this place considers itself to be a gastropub, but it may well qualify based upon its exceptional fare. Having frequented many "other pubs" in Atlanta over the last several years, I've noticed that most are heavy on the fried offerings and don't seem to bother with details that they must assume no one notices. Contrary to these "other pubs", Corner Pub takes the high road, serving real, reasonably priced food, most of which isn't fried, and taking the time to make what it can in-house. The simple fact that it makes its own salad dressings (which are quite good by the way), for example, speaks volumes about its dedication and commitment in this regard because it simply doesn't have to do it, but it does. I only wish other restaurants cared this much. My favorites are the Cuban and the Blackened Tuna sandwiches. Being a pub, Corner Pub of course has a selection of beers on tap from which you may choose from to accompany your meal. While the draft selections are not extensive, probably only a dozen or so are available at any given time, it's quite decent and you should find something which appeals to you (perhaps even something you've never tried before). The ambiance is nice, meaning that the restaurant is comfortable, clean and the staff is polite. There is a good-sized bar and patio seating is available. Specifically, I like the fact that if you do happen to sit inside for lunch, the windows which surround the pub offer sunlight (so you don't have to feel like a vampire) versus other pubs which are dark and dingy even during the daytime. Additionally, the restaurant doesn't cling to your clothes once you've left (you know what I'm taking about). How to mess up a grilled cheese sandwich... I am a vegetarian, and typically find it difficult to find anything interesting (and not just a salad) on a pub menu. But I wanted to try this place because it was in my neighborhood and it got good Yelp reviews. Disappointment quickly set in. I hate it when I look at a menu and have to pick what I CAN eat, instead of choosing what I want to eat. So out of the two items available, I chose to splurge on a high fat treat. That said, when I choose to indulge in something really bad for me(fries and grilled cheese) I want it to be worth my time and calories. Mind you, I am not a health nut. I love good food. I love food that is not good for me. The grilled cheese must have sat "done" for quite a while before they served it because the cheese had turned to a sweaty, oily, solid-- served on toasted to death, flavorless bread. And the fries...you know they must be really bad when it's better to not eat them even when you cannot eat your sandwich. I come here randomly with my grandma because she lives 5 mins away and loves the fish. She usually orders tilapia I believe. She swears by it. Anyway I've been here a handful of times and the service is usually awesome! Sometimes a little slow when they're busy but if you look around, you'll understand. "Homemade"...the word can be used to describe something quite tasty (when something is made with 'love').... Here's what we had: Cordon bleu chicken sandwich with "spicy" collards- The sandwich was ok- decently tasty- but nothing special. The spicy collards were not spicy...unless you added vinegar with pickled chilis inside. Kind of sad for collards- completely tasteless on their own. Philly cheese chicken, fries- Again, decent sandwich, generous portion of grilled chicken breast, fries were not bad. Jerk chicken grilled wings- Wings were flavored nicely (not too much, not too little), and tasted like it came off of a backyard grill- for better or worse depending on what you're looking for. I thought a little more char/drier wings would've been better with the jerk seasoning. While having our food at Corner Pub, I did think of this word "homemade", but not with the usual associated meaning. I basically felt like "I could make this at home just as well...." as I ate. Don't get me wrong, the food was decent....but that's just it. It was a just an OK meal. It's hard to stand out among the myriad pubs within a square mile of downtown Decatur. It's even harder when the menu is completely overflowing with choices. My humble suggestion would be for this place to whittle down the menu a bit, and find the know-how to make the remaining choices destination-worthy. We came here for lunch and sat outside since the weather was so nice. This is a typical pub but the menu was what was appealing to my friends, so we decided to give it a try. FOOD: I started with the Cajun Hushpuppies which is salmon, shrimp, rice, and corn rolled in panko with remoulade and lemon dipping sauce. The 6 hushpuppies are deep fried with a tasty middle are a great way to start off a meal. This place has really slid, if that is grammatically correct to say. I used to work nearby for years and liked coming Mondays when they offer half price specials, and, for my lunch mate, gluten-free options. He had concerns about eating there recently because their "gluten-free" choices were cooked in the same grease as regular choices and when we got there we found that that corruption of gluten-free still occurs, even tho I phones in advance to make sure they had gluten-free options. "We do what we can," said the waitress but in our opinion, that wasn't enough and inaccurate of them to tell me otherwise on the phone. As for my lunch, I was pretty unsatisfied and didn't eat most of it. For instance, the generous serving of cooked broccoli was almost completely raw and incidentally tasteless. Waitress seemed unconcerned when she removed my nearly full plate. Go somewhere else is my recommendation. I can barely give it 2 stars. read more

Small selection and worst of all, the bartender isn't very educated about what he's pouring and serving. They don't season their food. Slow service even when it's pretty much empty. No one gives cares about you and there is no teamwork to be found here. Tip for the owner: have your kitchen staff taste the food before they send it out. Menu is some what creative... but if you can't pull if off, just stick to the pub menu. Our party had everything to make a difficult visit: we needed multiple tables, had kids and asked for split checks when some of the party needed to leave early. Whew!, wears me out thinking about it. I almost hate to review this place because I don't want it discovered for how good it is. It would be easy to dismiss this place as another bar in town with nothing more to offer than some greasy food and some decent beer. Just go ahead and do that. Do not try this place. The entrees at Corner Pub, if served at some fancy restaurant in Atlanta, would pass for a $18 - $20 meal. They don't charge that. I am particularly enthralled with the catfish dinner with cornbread and collard greens. The Andouille and Grits is a very nice meal with very fresh tasting (and looking) ingredients. The Airheart chicken breast is nicely complimented with asparagus. There is so much more I want to try here - Monday nights are half-off entrees, so you can get a fantastic meal for $6.00. The staff is friendly and quick. The beers are poured well. It's non-smoking inside, so you can enjoy this great food without choking on cigarette smoke. I was planning on picking up lunch at Figo and thought, "Why not check this place out?" I was able to quickly grab a seat at the bar and enjoy a nice lunch while watching the Braves put up 11 points versus the Brewers. I didn't think the menu was anything special, but one filled with a lot of classic bar food, sandwiches and some fun things. I had the chips and salsa verde as an appetizer, but was really disappointed by the bland, tasteless salsa. However, my entree was a plate of two fried chicken sliders and they rocked! A string of poor restaurants, bad drinks, and an eventual return to fast food (Popeye's) put me in a slump! I was aching to find a non-snobby spot that served good drinks, good food, and had easy parking. Enter Scout Mob! Tilak and I were sitting around Saturday night, wondering what to do. It was St. Patrick's Day -- we really should have been out and about, or drinking green beer and yelling "Sláinte" at Fado's but neither activity deemed appealing. We took a peek at the Scout Mob app and decided to go to The Corner Pub. Mona P. also mentioned good things, and hey, 50% off - you really can't beat that. First impressions - a delicious amount of parking - automatic plus in my book. There were only a handful of patrons, but I learned that there was a crazy bar crawl earlier in the day. We took advantage of St. Patty's day drink specials and ordered two Irish Kisses - whiskey, ginger ale, peach Schnapps "kissed" with a slice of lime. Absolutely delicious, and strong! And $4! Where was I?! We started off with fried goat cheese, which consisted of 3 hefty pieces of goat cheese crusted in hazelnuts with a blueberry vinaigrette on on a cute pile of arugula. It was an absolute delight. Pieces of goat cheese were found mixed in the arugula as well. For mains, I ordered the cheese steak with a side of fries, and T ordered the chicken cordon bleu. The steak - perfectly cooked. Just perfect. Not chewy. Perfect. The roasted red peppers and sauteed mushrooms and onions complimented the sandwich perfectly. The fries, in honesty, were okay... just okay. The chicken cordon bleu - another item of immense pleasantry. Juicy chicken (probably a thigh) and ham that didn't taste hammy (good cold cuts don't taste weird - rule of thumb. Well actually, good food doesn't taste weird...). Been coming here since I moved to Avondale Estates 10 years ago. Pretty disappointed in myself for taking this long to leave a review for my favorite restaurant in Decatur proper . The food is just superb. I don't like fried okra- but I pretty much get it every time here. Everything has a tad something extra to make it fresh and delicious. I've been well over 100 times, and complained!! 3 times. Not to mention ample free parking. Or the fact a brewery shares said parking lot. Or the distillery a block over. We've only been here once but I really like this place! I've been wanting to stop in for a while, but a boring Sunday night and Scoutmob finally got us in the door. First, the staff is super friendly-- not up in your business friendly, but just glad to have you in friendly. I had a French Dip sandwich for the first time in forever and it was sooooo good, and my husband had the BBQ sandwich was was pretty yummy. The sides were even better; between us we had the jalapeno cornbread, spicy collards, rice and beans, and fried okra. I'm debating on going back for just a veg plate to try them all over again! The cornbread was thick and cakey and drenched in butter, which is just how I like it, and the okra and greens were PERFECTLY cooked. The rice and beans were good, but let's be honest it isn't hard to screw those up (yet, so many people do!) so it was a good solid go to. I'm looking forward to going back to try some more, though I'll have to make a few trips because it's going to be hard to choose! read more

Dining on a budget is always the way to go for me. I've been here before and it was just about the same experience I had before. Pleasant. We sat at the bar, as usual. The bartender, who's name I seemed to forgot that quickly. Greeted us promptly, told us the specials (which I like, I know people like to have a higher check average) I believe it was 50% off entrees. I got the pan seared trout with walnuts, mash and brocc. It was good and lite. I didn't even get to finish all of it. Hefty portion. My drink. Moscow Mule was very tasty. I enjoyed my company and experience. I know my bf can be so extra sometimes and she handled him perfectly. read more
