I have tried so hard to like and support this place but I have given up on it and will not go again. We travel to the area once or twice a year and are challenged to find food we like; we were sad to find Shift in Frostburg has disappeared. We arrived at Cornucopia at 5:30 pm on Friday in mid-May and ordered dinner, only to be told that all of the dishes we wanted were no longer available. At 5:30. I suppose they are really challenged to operate and I get the COVID issues, but it was ridiculous. We got the soup but no spoon. The salmon - about the only available entree - did not have its pecan crust but that was no problem, I just said to put something on it (Balsamic vinegar? Herbs? Butter salt pepper? )But no. Undressed, overcooked small portion of frozen salmon with a twice-baked potato for $25. They have a lovely setting and I wish them well but I won't be there. read more

Today was a sad day for my wife and me. You see, the Cornucopia Cafe has been a "go-to" restaurant for us as we travel to/from Pennsylvania. Several weeks ago, we stopped for dinner as we usually do. Sadly, the food we ordered lacked substance and flavor. Portion sizes were also sub-par. We chalked it up to "just a fluke." Today, we came back to the Cornucopia Cafe. They advertised a "Cinco de Mayo International Cuisine" menu! We were excited to be back and loved the idea of the menu. Unfortunately, the food was a step short of "unpalatable." We ordered chicken fajitas (a pretty easy thing to cook, BTW). Before I go on, it's important to note that our server was absolutely charming and wanted us to be happy. Our issue is NOT at all with her...but rather with the quality of the meals we purchased. Our chicken fajitas came to us warm, not hot. The tortillas were not pliable. I separated the meat from the vegetables (ONLY green/yellow peppers, no onions at all!) and my fajitas had less than 1 ounce of chicken!! We brought this to the attention of our server and she was genuinely apologetic. Soon, she brought us two small plates...of BOILED, completely flavorless chicken! The meal went from bad to worse...somehow, "International Cuisine" wasn't worth the bill of $36.00 to me. Still, our server remained apologetic...and rightly so. It's stuff like this that irks me and causes me to write about it. I'm so, so sad to leave my "go-to" restaurant in this way. We've recommended Cornucopia to family and friends. I want to go back...but can't do it until I know that I won't be hugely disappointed again. For that matter, I can't even post a positive recommendation. Really enjoyed our visit to Cornucopia for lunch. It is set in a very picturesque location with the patio backing up to the Casselman river. It is also next to the bridge and the Spruce forest artisan village. Makes for a wonderful visit to this gem. The food was excellent. Started off with the Asiago cheese dip w Naan. And then had a Salad and soup. Being on a diet had to go light. Both were well done. The only hers ordered the chili and brisket Patti melt. Everyone at our table enjoyed the experience and the food. The service was really good. We had had low expectations after having walked out of "The Little Sandy- in Bruceton Mills, WV" for not receiving any service. We were not only surprised but the service was outstanding. The indoor decor was really well done, welcoming and open space. 5 Stars. Had read other reviews on food not being tasty or lacking salt. Just tried this for the first time today. Good food, nice ambiance. I had the ham & cheese croissant with a cup of broccoli & cheese; My Dad had the tuna melt and their homemade bean salad -- he said it was really good. Drinks were small though (both got lemonade in maybe a 10oz glass.) A plus to this spot it the Artisan Village next door and Penn Alps restaurant. One might not expect a modern, trendy restaurant in a rather rural area but there is Cornucopia! Apparently it has been here 3 years. The decor is fantastic as far as I am concerned..check out the dining room! The tables in the bar which are huge timbers are super cool; the restrooms industrial chic with wash clothes to dry ur hands. The food....I think over priced for what you got! I ordered the main salad with a crab cake ($15) had Bibb lettuce the leaves left whole with cheese sprinkled on which kept falling all over table as I tried to cut lettuce to eat! It had some cucumbers, tomatoes, pickled red onion on side on this flat plate with cute ball jar with dressing in and crab cake, not quite cooked all the way-gooey on inside. In my opinion (and I'm a salad expert...lol) the leaves should have been cut up and all fixings in a bowl. More ingredient too and bigger crab cake! My husband got a BLT and he said it was skimpy, needed more of the bacon, lettuce and tomato! His side was a bean salad he liked! All in all for the prices we should have left feeling nice and full and we weren't! read more

When it comes to country pleasures, I confess that I'm a stone-cold city grrl. I love visiting, but wouldn't be able to live there, given my proclivity for city options like, say, more than one choice when it comes to bars and restaurants. That said, this little place is a gem. I had a chance to combat-test their offerings over the course of three days spent in Grantsville for a conference, and they served up breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a fashion that would stand on its own in DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia ... or even the RVA. Setting and surroundings are pretty prime, given their location in the Spruce Forest Arts Village on the Casselman River. The rustic flavor of the interior is well thought out, with something simple, yet interesting, wherever you look. I was particularly taken with the twisted-wire snaffle bits and stirrup leathers they used to tie down the cushion backs for the bench seat tables near the bar. The view out the back wall of windows is pretty spectacular, too - a meadow that banks a flowing river. On to the food: I developed an addiction to their breakfast panini, which put local eggs between two slices of sourdough bread, along with avocado, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Friends ordered the bagel + lox, as well as the granola/fruit/yogurt bowl, and were very pleased with their choices. For lunch, I'd recommend their Greek Trio, which is the perfect size of olive tapenade, tzatziki, and hummus alongside toasted pita chunks. (Hummus could use a bit more garlic, but that's a small quibble.) At dinner, I had a great Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, and got lucky enough to snag a taste of my friend's Noodle Bowl, which was prime. They had a terrific tomato soup while I was there, and I had it two days running ... and am still smiling at that flavor memory. The beer and wine selections are on par with what you'd find in a top neighborhood spot in DC or Bawlmer - IPA, stout, lager, and ale on a rotating tap program; top notch wines (Erath pinot gris! By the bottle or glass!) - and they offer flights on both, for extremely fair prices. If you're passing through western Maryland, or planning a vacation to Deep Creek Lake or a fishing excursion on the Casselman, definitely check this place out. We stopped here for brunch during a camping trip at BIg Run State Park. The food was excellent and the service was even better. We tried the avocado toast as well as the French toast charcuterie. We arrived 15 minutes before 4:00 dinner and were given dinner menus. The bartender announced that we had to order lunch or (eclectic) burgers because it wasn't 4:00 yet and "Chef is touchy". We ordered burgers, I ordered a grilled cheese burger, but Charlie ordered a plain burger with cheese. Waitress (very nice girl) came back and said "Chef doesn't allow departures from the menu". Ummmm ... you have the burger, you have cheese, so how hard is a plain cheeseburger??? (A good cheeseburger stands on its own without the eclectic toppings ). There were 2 other customers in the place. Had our drinks that we had ordered l, tipped the waitress over 20%) and departed. Take the a detour off of the beaten path to find this out-of-the-way delightful little hipsterisque-industrial lite venue. Tables include a lot of two and four tops that can easily be rearranged for groups. The tables themselves had simple metal bases but were topped with authentic wood planking. Seats were pseudo-industrial metal and wood that were actually much more comfortable then they appeared they would be. They have a great selection of items to choose from not only for lunch -but also very enticing desserts such as Cinnamon roll bread pudding. A wonderful spot to enjoy the evening. My husband and I went here last night and were not disappointed. The setting near the Casselman bridge is delightful. You can walk down to the river and watch the fly fishermen too. I ordered the Summer pasta which was excellent and a very large portion. We also enjoyed the artichoke toast appetizer and the Parma plate. The wine selection was decent. For dessert, a really moist and flavorful strawberry shortcake that was not overly sweet. The only less than spectacular thing was the service. Everyone was very warm and welcoming but our particular server seemed very inexperienced. That being said, I would still recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. It's only a 30 minute drive from the southern portion of Deep Creek Lake. PS- Espresso was great too. read more

Let me start off by addressing the slow service. There were 5 people in the front of the house for 10 tables. I saw 3 people in the back preparing food. It was 12:34 pm when we walked in and seated. However, it took 8 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. After she got our drink order, it took her another 10 minutes to come back to take our order. After our order was taken (shredded chicken sandwich and flatbread) it was 25 minutes to get our food. Afterwards, we dared ordered dessert but after a 15 minute wait, we were done. Got our check and cut our losses. I would understand if the place was full of people or understaffed, but to me, this was the waitress who maybe have been too busy checking her phone in the back. Now the food, we thought the food was quite good. I understand the high ratings. One critique is my food had zero color other than beige and green and way too much chicken for a flatbread. read more

After exploring some local shops and marveling at the fact that it didn't matter to us what time it was, we looked up local eateries and found this one. It was late afternoon, but we had enjoyed a huge brunch, so we looked at dessert options. I forget now what Mom got, but my petite strawberry shortcakes were delicious, as was my expertly-done cappuccino. We "dined" on the back patio, enjoying the breeze and the view. Assessment: Staff: Friendly, prompt and accommodating. Menu: Looks fantastic and I want to drive that hour+ again to try a meal. Restrooms: Gorgeous and sparkling. Ambiance: I was almost drooling, it's so pretty! I'd call it rustic man-chic. Recommend: Absolutely - in fact, I told quite a few people about it when we got back home. Thank you! :) Update: took my husband for our anniversary - he got the brisket and sweet potato (wow!) and I got the tortellini stew (yes, please). I have frequented this business since 2017. The atmosphere is modern and cozy (especially in the winter when the fire is lit). The staff is always knowledgeable to the items on tap and the seasonally changed menu. The food is always delicious. Although the portions are a bit small for my husband, they are great for me. This is more of a fine dining experience, but it is not stuffy. There is not another restaurant with in 30 minutes that is on par with the quality of this one. Honestly, this restaurant almost belongs in a city area. It could most definitely compete there. But I am grateful they are here, because it gives this area a special gem of its own! The only issue I ever had was salmon not cooked to my preference. The waitress immediately fixed the issue. But again, this was a personal preference not the businesses error per say. I wish they housed more winery wines, but the selection they have is enjoyable. The tomato soup is my favorite thing! I will eat it even when it's 100 degrees outside. Lastly, they are the only business I have noticed around this area that is actually following Covid mandates. To me, this in itself makes the business worth visiting. This place is worth a visit because of the amazing ambiance and atmosphere the Cornucopia Cafe provides. Admire the reclaimed wood and the decorative details that makes this place kind of stunning in a country chic kind of way. I came here for lunch yesterday and had the curried chicken salad. The curried chicken salad part was great but the rest of the plate/platter was underwhelming. It came with a bed of greens but no dressing for the greens. The accompanying pita bread-- if this was supposed to be chips, they were stale and chewy. If this was supposed to be fresh pita-- it was stale and chewy. Remarkably so. Otherwise, the service was great. Take a moment to use the restrooms which are also beautifully decorated and include little washcloths to wash your hands instead of paper-- this was a pleasant touch, literally. If I am ever passing through Grantsville, Maryland again I would love to stop at the Cornucopia Cafe and try another item from the menu. read more

If you didn't know to look for this place on 68, you would very easily miss it. It is an excellent choice on this drive since everything else is mostly fast food. The inside of the restaurant is so cute, with a lot of character. They have a little coffee bar as soon as you walk in. My mom had her dog, so we sat In the front at the "dog section." The menu has cafe fare with gluten free & vegetarian options. The olive & nut appetizer was really good. I had the muffaletta sandwich, which was flavorful and large. I had the side arugula salad with a delicious lemon dressing. My mom had the veggie stacked. We went on a weekday before dinner (about 4pm), and it was nearly empty. The service was great. The establishment now serves mediocre food that is marketed as healthy and tasty but it's all just a painful lie. Management is as shitty as ever. To be exact, the Caesar salad that I had ordered was was disgusting. The dressing tasted like buttermilk and it made me question if it was expired. The salad was also tossed with shredded mozzarella like they didn't care whatsoever, even though it is marketed as Parmesan cheese. It's also worth mentioning our silverware was not polished and had pieces of food on some of them. Disgusting. The spicy meatloaf marinara wedge-witch that I had ordered also tasted like garbage, and when I asked for a refund, I was denied it. I didn't take more than one bite out of this sandwich and you are going to tell me that I still have to pay for this literal garbage? Our server was the only good thing about the experience. Ashley constantly checked on us and tried to make sure we were as satisfied as we could be. Maybe the management could learn something from their own staff about customer service. I get it - it's rustic and hipster, and caters to millennials... Their menu changes A LOT, so if you like something, chances are it won't be there the next time you visit. I've only had 2 things from there that are decent (Korean BBQ Bowl & Asiago Dip). Those 2 items are great and I would order them every time. The rest of the menu is ridiculous - they don't serve normal food. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable, the service is slow and they never provide enough water at the table. I'm a human and I drink more than a shot glass of water at a time. They are ALWAYS out of "something" - no matter what it is. Most dishes are often flavorless, overpriced, and pretentious. Again, there are not a lot of options for locals, like myself. When you live in an Amish/Retirement community, all you have is bland food available to you. Advice to Owners: Keep popular items on the menu year round. Get some comfortable chairs and bring more water to the table...we are thirsty, you know. I love this place! I discovered it by accident this past summer when I was traveling from my home near DC to visit my Father in Ohio. Since my first visit, I have made it a point to stop for a meal every time I go home to visit my dad. While I have enjoyed every meal here, my favorites so far are the crepes with fresh berries and the signature salad. I've told several friends and family members about this gem, and all have enjoyed their visits and appreciated the recommendation. Servers are professional and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. Sitting outside on a pretty day is refreshing, but the inside is equally cozy when raining. read more

Very disappointed with the experience at Cornucopia Cafe. A year or so ago we had a poor experience and after arriving at two closed establishments we decided to give it another shot. I understand that it's tough finding workers and I get it. That being said, we ordered our beers and sat down, waiting for a text message to tell us when we could order. We got the text, ordered our food(with an appetizer), and waited a while. A family sat down next to us and after 20 minutes their food came out. We ordered another round of beers and asked our waitress to check on our appetizer, 15 minutes had gone by and they brought our beer, but no food. We then asked when any of our food would be coming and they went to check. After checking, we had been notified that the order was never sent to the kitchen. Definitely a bad experience given the restaurant wasn't very busy. They did refund our dinner, which we never got and also comped us one of our beer orders. That was a good gesture and we appreciated it. We will not be going back again. Best of luck to the cafe. read more

Lovely stop for dinner off of the Interstate after a day at Fallingwater and ohiopyle. The decor is that of a rustic barn, but well appointed with modern touches like a fireplace and a full service bar and cafe. Our server, Tina, was well informed and suggested both a on excellent beer flight and several awesome desserts. A little over a year ago, I stumbled upon the Cornucopia Cafe when I was returning to WVU after a weekend home in D.C. Ever since then, I return at least once a month! Even my friends will make the hour drive just to escape Morgantown for a bit. Every experience I've had here was great. The establishment itself is rustic, comfortable and clean. The food is always on point. I've had a mushroom and spinach breakfast crepe, pesto chicken flatbread, rosemary lonzetta, a seasonal salad and several of the appetizers. Still haven't been disappointed! The service is always prompt and friendly. Food sometimes takes a little longer to come out, but when I stop here I'm never in a rush. Also, I don't take creamer in my coffee, but I always have to get one of their house creamers! Overall this place is one of my favorites. This place was a hiddden gem. Apparently this whole little area is a touristy spot with options for food and gidtables. The food was EXCELLENT! Cuban sandwich, avacado grilled cheese and ham and cheese. All were good. Place was something out of a suburbial small quaint town but WAY out where you wouldn't expect it! Overall great. Drawbacks (and why I am only at a 4): They were out of croissants, spinach...things advertised on multiple sandwiches. Coffee kinda had a "bottom of the pot" taste to it, but pretty sure it wasn't the bottom of a pot. No silverware on table--was served coffee and creamer. Waited for server to return but finally had to flag her down for a spoon. Bacon on my sandwich was barely cooked, but my son with the same sandwich had crispy bacon. Server never checked back in. All of us got up to use restroom. Bill finally came and sat waiting for it to get picked up. This issues are probably all just one server situation. Overall nice. Would be a great stop for lunch on a getaway weekend trip. read more

The menu posted on Yelp is wrong. It had small plates, a veggie burger, and many options that were not on the actual "new" menu when we arrived. I wouldn't have stopped if the new menu was the menus posted to Yelp. No veggie burger, 1/3 of the offerings, and significantly higher prices. I decide to try anyways since we had already stopped on our interstate drive. I ordered the baba ganoush flat bread. It came out wreaking of garlic (and I typically love garlic). I took one bite and it was a mouth full of minced garlic. No eggplant or tahini flavor.. just garlic. Truly disgusting and left an awful taste in my mouth. I sent it back and got a refund. The refund was given to me only after the manager pushed back on me when I complained of the straight garlic and said that's not what baba ganoush is ... she said "well it's made from scratch in the kitchen". To which I said "that's not what I said and they really need to work on that recipe because it is gross." read more
