Place needs new management and respect for customers. Lovely stop for dinner off of the Interstate after a day at Fallingwater and ohiopyle. The decor is that of a rustic barn, but well appointed with modern touches like a fireplace and a full service bar and cafe. Our server, Tina, was well informed and suggested both a on excellent beer flight and several awesome desserts. New Year's Eve dinner, special night, BIG disappointment. We wanted the famous 'meatloaf', waitress says, 'it'[s not ready yet', but I think they have some 'ends' (that translates to me as the leftover ends from the night before!)....., next choice, the Santa Fe Bowl, 'sorry no steak for the bowl...but you can have chicken', Next shocker, ordered a side salad ala carte to go with choice #3, waitress says, "$4.50"....ok,......... but when she brought bill, it was "6.50", she says, the "Harvest salad is a 'seasonal salad' & it's $2 more! WHY didn't she say that when I ordered it when 'she said the salad would be $4.50!!? And the salad was about 2 cups of mixed greens, 3 walnuts & 4 pieces of roasted squash. The "2 stars" above is because the crabcakes were very good!! Oh, and as we're leaving the establishment 2 young men came in for coffee, the barista told them his expresso machine was broken , but he could give them iced chai!!! I think someone needs to step it up in the kitchen to have things ready for dinnertime, and get the supplies in for what the menu offers, & run to Walmart & get a 2nd expresso machine! I'm local to Garrett County and have been to Cornucopia several times before...lunch and breakfast. My wife and I took our twin three years olds there for breakfast, Sunday April 26, 2021. My wife had had eggs and toast there before and enjoyed them. She asked the server if she could get that, and the server said they could not make something that was not on the menu. That's a pet peeve of mine with restaurants that serve breakfast. You have eggs, you have bread...how difficult is it to cook eggs and toast. The restaurant was not busy at this time. My wife decided on the yogurt and granola, because she could share with the boys. (the menu didn't really have anything on the kids menu that would appeal to them (finicky three year olds). I ordered the waffle, because I am allergic to eggs. (please note, the menu did not have simple items like, bacon, sausage, or any kind of bakery items). My waffle was cold and very dry. It broke apart when trying to pick up with a fork. My wife's yogurt had the taste of sour cream. Perhaps I am too provincial and not aware of this recipe for yogurt. While we were there, another four top came in and wanted to have some coffee and simple breakfast foods, like muffins, scones, pastries. No Go...they left. We were very disappointed. Sorry, I wanted to like the food but it just was very bland. My rosemary lonzetta sandwich was just ham and cheese on a chibatta roll. My husband's jambalaya was not spicy at all and a gelatinous mass. My one child had the salmon burger, but it was also bland. Finally my other child had the sliders with pimento cheese on a pretzel bun, the only one who like his food. One child had the root beer float and enjoyed that too. The service was great and everyone was pleasant. The atmosphere was really nice as well with very welcoming decor. We just came back from our second time to this charming restaurant. Both weekend brunch and weekday lunch were memorable, we'll definitely be back again. The cafe has a lovely wrap around porch in a cute historic area with nice landscaping and a stream out back. Food is tasty, we especially liked the brisket! And staff are friendly, attentive, and quick without rushing you. Take a little walk over Casselman bridge after eating to walk a little of it off. We stopped by the Cornucopia Cafe for a late breakfast on our way to Washington DC for Spring Break...what a wonderful find! Delicious food made with honest ingredients and priced really well...as a matter of fact, they probably undercharge for such a great meal! Our group had the Belgian Waffle, crepes, a bagel, fruit/yogurt and the bearclaw muffin and it was all great. Moving past the food, the restaurant was very clean with cool decor. Additionally, the back of the dining room opens onto a grassy field with a view of a meandering creek...BEAUTIFUL. Private restrooms with thoughtful details such such as individually rolled hand towels showed just how much they pay attention to every detail. Service was fast, friendly and welcoming. We were camping in New Germany (again) and we decided to check out The Spruce Forest Artisan Village (again). And then we were going to find somewhere to eat, because while I enjoy rising to the challenge of campstove cooking, there's no need to get radical about it if there are other options in the area. But what a great surprise it was to find this clever little place tucked behind The Village. We stopped in for lunch and as I said, we were camping, but I think it would be a great place to bring a date. The service was top notch, neither overbearing nor neglectful and she was very patient with us because we managed to ignore the small plates menu and had to rethink what we were going to get. and I guess I should say something about the food? The menu is small (which I think is a bonus, I've never been in a restaurant with a huge menu AND great food) and everything was very fresh and very good. Also, and this is very important, when I asked for the BLT & A without the T, I received a sandwich ... without tomato. For some reason, leaving tomatoes off of things is a challenge that many restaurants fail. I also had the chicken liver pate and the arugula salad as a side. (Don't be deceived by the apparent simplicity of the arugula salad, it really is excellent.) I wound up eating half of my sandwich for dinner because the amount of chicken liver pate (with a delicious sweet/hot pepper jelly) exceeded my expectations and I think even the very kind and tolerant waitperson would have said something if I'd tried to tuck the jar in my pocket. read more

Having never been to the area before, I was astonished driving through at the natural beauty of the area. I hoped to find a comforting home grown restaurant in the area to stop and take a much needed dinner break from my road trip. The venue at Cornucopia is pretty sizable - it's got a cavernous interior and plenty of outdoor seating out back. It's got a nice rustic/woody cabin feel to it, despite its size. They have a decent drink selection, including plenty of beers on tap, which is always much appreciated. I didn't spring for any of the small plates/appetizers, but they had plenty to choose from and many of them sounded appealing. The food was...food. There was nothing wrong with the Italian Sausage sandwich, but it was very uninspiring. I was hoping for a more of a punch/more of a "wow" factor to the taste. It's a good place to stop if it's on your route but definitely not as special as I had hoped it would be. read more

I was at the cornucopia cafe on Friday for dinner with my parents. The atmosphere was nice with both indoor and outdoor seating! I also loved that it is a dog friendly establishment. The decor was lovely. Our service was good. The beer selection is definitely good for the area! I also loved that they have an olive appetizer and gluten free options. There were some issues with our dinner and drinks. The bottled beer was warm and the server acknowledged that she thought the bottle felt warm when she got it out. They did give us a chilled glass. I ordered a salad. When it came out I could see how heavily it was slathered with dressing. It actually made the spinach limp and slimey. The chicken on top of the salad was minimal. It was very dry, like it may have been microwaved. It was not seasoned. My parents felt that their meals were fine. I didn't send my meal back and give the kitchen the option to correct it. I would go back for drinks but I'm not sure I'd eat a full meal there. read more

Our trip to cornucopia cafe is a perfect example of why I love Yelp so much! We were headed home from Pennsylvania so my family put me on lunch duty to find a spot along the drive home. Cornucopia cafe popped up with a solid rating and great reviews so we were sold. We left the restaurant happy, full and ready to plan our next visit. For starters, the restaurant is absolutely adorable-- Johanna Gaines meets industrial refurbishment. We sat down at a large family table starving and were quickly greeted by two waiters that were awesome throughout the meal. The group got a mix of drinks-- spiked Apple cider (stellar reviews), a flight of beer (some of the best selection I've tried in a while), coffees (all very good) and more. We then moved on to a few apps-- the flatbreads stood out and then on to our lunch. The table mainly ordered sandwiches with a variety of sides although my aunt had the Asian chicken salad and spoke very highly of her meal. Some of our favorite sandwiches were the grown up grilled cheese on a croissant (unreal) and the Cuban-- so so good. Our favorite sides were the tomato soup and the bean salad (super flavorful and refreshing). We couldn't leave without dessert so we ordered the flan and the sea salt caramel brownie, the flan was great but that brownie was out of this world. Stopped here for luncheon our way to deep Creek. I can't say enough good things about this place! We arrived and were able to sit outside which overlooks a stream and a grassy knoll. The kids were stuck in a car for three hours and were able to run and explore the stream while e ordered lunch. Our waitress was helpful and friendly and the peach tea is amazing! The one complaint is that the food was slow, and we were hungry! The croissant sandwich was delicious and the bean salad was really well done, I don't like bean salad! We got strawberry rhubarb crisp, it tasted like the fruits was picked that morning. Everything was great, in fact we made a detour on the way back home so we could eat here a second time! read more

This place has not been open that long. Maybe 3 months. It's located at Pen Alps off Route 40 in a nice rustic building with new everything. It was December and it was mild and the outdoor seating was tempting. There are a lot of table outside and around back there is a nice view of the Casselman River. Inside it's got a rustic, simple décor, a nice bar area and a split dining area with a fireplace on end. There is also a coffee/cappuccino bar just as you enter. Seems out of place, but they are working with the space. We ate at the bar for lunch. Nice Italian/Mediterranean menu with sandwiches and appetizers. Service was very friendly. They had a nice selection of beers - all micros and some local. No bud or miller on draft. They also seemed to have a nice wine selection although we didn't order wine. Both of us got sandwiches that came out quickly and they were both very good. Great combinations of meat, toppings and spreads on unique artisan breads - toasted nice and warm. I got the soup of the day which was a navy bean and ham and it was perfect for the meal. The Muffaletta I ordered was tasty - salty meats, a tapenade type spread and arugula and melted cheeses. Really good. My brother got the Roast beef and said it was fantastic. Overall - a great first try and we'll be back. Hopefully on a day we can sit outside and enjoy the views. read more

This place saved dinner on a Sunday night, where most things in this neck of the woods are either closed all day or close early. The bf and I were on our way back home and needed an affordable, quality bite. We loved the atmosphere of the place - yeah, a lil hipster trendy with the reclaimed wood and piping, but it was done well and still had a country feel. Cuuuuuute. There's also some outdoor patio space I bet would be nice in the warmer time of year. It backs up to the forest so the view should be pretty nice. They had quality tea and local coffee, and seemed to have a decent selection of beer/wine but I didn't get to look at it in detail. There's a diverse food quantity (apps, small plates, large plates, etc) and style (American, Asian, Latin, Italian, etc), and the prices were reasonable for the quality. I recommend the Little Philly bruschetta - their crostini is amazing. At the coffee bar they had fresh baked goods available - two types of muffin, house made granola, coconut-chocolate chip cookies. Service was friendly and attentive, though admittingly we were there on a slow night. If you come by during the day when the nearby shops are open, you can poke around at the artisan village, which has potters, woodworkers, soap and lotion makers, etc. I saw an ice cream and bakery place down the path as well as a general store that looks like it sells some cute/tasty stuff. read more

This place is located just behind Penn Alps restaurant and we had lunch on a Sunday. Our orders included BBQ chicken tacos which were delicious with a great BBQ sauce (which we tried to buy but they didn't have any in stock). We also had homemade Chicken soup, Italian Hoagie, Arugula salad, and Rosemary pork longetta. Everyone in our party raved about their food and the service was knowledgeable and friendly. Seems to me that everything is homemade so you will wait a little longer as the food is prepared. Excellent Craft beers are also available. We will definitely go again and hope we leave room to try the desserts. I usually don't give 5 stars on the first visit when I am planning on visiting again but I was certainly tempted. read more

I absolutely love this place! Hidden behind the Penn Alps artisan village is possibly Western Maryland's best restaurant. The Cornucopia cafe offers many delicious meals that are fresh and very well thought out. I would go out on a limb to say that anything you have here is going to be great. On our visit I had the Rosemary Lonzetta which is fresh pork tenderloin seasoned with rosemary with provolone and lemon garlic aioli on ciabatta bread. This sandwich ranks up in the best sandwiches I've ever had. Absolutely delicious! The bean salad that comes as a side is also very well done and highly recommended. Overall this is a must stop if in this area of Maryland or even within an hour! A must try! read more
