The competition for crabs in this area is fierce, and honestly most places have decent crabs. But I choose crab galley over competitors in this area because the customer service is so good. I hate calling places and there is major attitude when you ask about pricing. The staff here is pleasant both on the phone and in person. The food is also always good. I ordered the food and waited for it to be ready. My food was full of favor! The reason I did not give it a 5 star rating was the restaurant needs a good cleaning! The fans have years worth of dust on them. The walls need to be washed along with the floor. I couldn't see the kitchen so who knows what it looks like. Please do a deep clean! read more

On Mother's Day, I went to the Crab Galley and placed an order for 50 salmon cake appetizer (me and my family go their often for seafood for family gatherings). However, Mother's Day 2022, was my last. Everything was going well that day, even though the store was crowded and they were busy I didn't mind the customer service was good. I was told my order would be ready in 20 minutes, I sat outside and waited. 20 minutes up, I go back in, the small store is even more packed. I give my name and I'm given my bag stapled (the receipt is on the bag, it reads the name given and paid). So, to keep the food warm, I didn't bust open the stapled bag until I got home. When I opened the container, I couldn't figure out what the heck was in the container. I knew it was some kind of seafood because it smelled fishy. So, I called to let them know what was in the container was not the salmon that I ordered. I was told to bring back and they'd make a fresh batch for me again (whatever, okay). So, drive back to the store (10 miles). Get back to the store, the employee says, "oh do you want to keep them - my reply, no, I don't even know what it is - response, fried oysters, I shook my head and said no." The employee apologized for mixing the order - there were 2 customers with the same name in the store placing orders around the same time. The other person got my order. The employee said, she he customer was very angry and gave some choice explicit words. They fixed his order. So, now I am waiting on my new batch of salmon cakes - the employee brings me the bag, stapled again and the store is still crowded. This time I opened and unbelievably, it's the Same Freakin fried oysters. I take the bag back inside, and a different employee that overheard the conversation asked what's wrong - I gave the back and said it's the same food that I brought back to the store. Employee says it can't be, so I said open - the employee took the food to the back and said she just brought this bag back in here and said she you gave her the oysters again. That employee said no way (they were all speaking loud enough for everyone in the store to hear). The person cooking said I just finished cooking them and gave to my mother to give to the customer, "now you go back out there and tell her she got the salmon already." So, the employee attempts to give me that same bag back and says to me she (the cook) says you have the salmon. I said, if I had the salmon I wouldn't be back in here returning the fried oysters that I brought back - I would be a happy customer and riding home with the food I paid. So, the employee goes to the back again and says she does not have any salmon and we can go to her car and look for them - the customer says she is not magically turning the salmon into oysters when she leaves the store. So, the female employee that I gave the mixed order to comes out and says my daughter said she made the salmon that I gave you and you have them already - my face is getting real tight - if I wasn't having folks over, I would have asked for a refund. I said once again, you handed me the same bag - the employee says how, how could I when I brought you the fresh batch of salmon my daughter just made. I said, if I had them salmon, how could I have brought the same wrong fried oysters back in. So, the employee goes to the back and says the customer says she does not have the salmon. The cook, also the daughter of one of the employees working the front commences to cursing her mother out - unbelievable on Mother's Day (the woman was so happy to share with folks in the store that her daughter surprised her with a bouquet of flowers) this was sad, embarrassing, and disgusting to ALL of the customers hearing the woman in the back yell and curse at her mother wanting to know how she lost the salmon she just cooked and she had her looking through every bag on the shelf for the salmon. The cook made another batch and the lady gave me 2 containers of the shrimp salad for the inconvenience. I was shown the order this time prior to leaving and what was in the container appeared to be salmon and I was satisfied. I'm at home and my guests wanted to know what was what they had but into - guest what it was Readers - it was nothing but Filler, there was NO Salmon inside. Crab Galley of Bowie messed up my order - I paid when I ordered in good faith, I picked up my order (bag stapled with the paid receipt (the receipt did not show what was ordered, just the customers name)), wasted gas returning to the store to exchange the wrong food (gas is high) and to be treated as if I was in the wrong is incredible. One customer lost, and any family or friends I know that have shopped there before I told them to spend there money elsewhere. I still cannot get over that woman talking to her mother like that, not just because it was Mother's Day, but the simple fact No One should be talked to or chastised and Cursed at publicly at work family-owned business or not. Attempted over 2 days to reach the Bowie location, at 11am, called the odenton, and said the Bowie location was open. Arrived Bowie at 1140am, door locked no one there. Drove to odenton, after being misled, only to be misled and overcharged, the single lump crab cake is $18 each, when the double with 2 side is $34, when asked about the price, the employee was rude and didn't care, I left, called the bowie location again and they finally answered the phone at 1210pm, and I asked what time they opened, they said 11am, I said I was there at 1140 am and no one was there and door locked, oh we are shorthanded. I've been to this spot on so many occasions. I've always had good food and a pleasant experience. The most recent was yesterday. I ordered a half a dozen regular crabs, broiled crab cake, steamed shrimp and chicken tenders. Usually, the crabs are some of the best I've ever had. Yesterday, they seemed to be lacking something. The crab cake now has way too much filling and made it inedible to me. The chicken fingers were tasty and the shrimp is a lot spicier now, but really good. I'm always looking for great fried fish. I mean, if I'm going to splurge, I want it to be worth the calories and heartburn. This place not only makes perfectly fried food, it offers great value for money. Not cheap, but large portions for their eminently fair prices. I had a fish dinner with cod and an extra crabcake. The crab was excellent, but the cod was outstanding. Included sides were very pleasnt potato salad and cole slaw. If my son still played for the Bowie Bruins, I'd be stopping by the Gallery all the time. Oh, and by the way, no heartburn which tells me the food not only tastes good, but is fried cleanly. Definitely a walk up counter, order your food and wait a while type of place. Compared to a restaurant, your food will be much cheaper here. But the quality is not at the top of the scale. Last Friday, (07/10/2020) I picked up a carry-out order for one dozen large crabs. This was my first time getting crabs this year (I normally eat crabs at least 3 - 4 days a week (during the summer). I was so excited and rushed home to start eating them. This was my first time getting crabs from the Crab Gallery. The crabs were heavy and I was ready to get started. Unfortunately, these were the worst crabs I have ever tasted (and I have been eating crabs for at least 50 years). The best I can think to describe the taste is that they tasted like the smell of a sour wet mop. The crabs were just OLD (I opened and tasted three crabs, and they all had the same taste, not fresh at all. That was $85 dollars down the drain. I don't know if they were trying to get rid of crabs they kept pre Covid-19 or what, but I can say I will never go back to them, because I can't trust the quality of their crabs. The reason I tried them in the first place is because of the reviews I read. However, I can honestly say that I was highly disappointed with my crabs. I had to trash them. I did not return the crabs to the Crab Gallery, because if they sold me the old crabs in the first place, I did not feel that they would admit that the crabs were OLD. This is my go to crab spot...I've never had an issue with the crabs (male or female). I also come here to purchase raw shrimp when I plan on cooking some type of shrimp dish...the size sometimes don't reflect their label (medium shrimp sold as large) I wanted to bake some fish tonight, so I stopped by to pick up a half pound of Cod. They only had one filet left so I just bought the whole thing. Turns out this piece of fish must've been washed down in some solution so that it appears to be fresher than it is. It absolutely wreaked of an ammonia smell! I didn't realize it until I got home, and of course they were closed at this point. I'll stick with Ivy City Market for a while, because now I'm questioning the quality of ALL their seafood. read more

This is one of my favorite crab spots, glad they seem to be still getting a nice amount of business during the pandemic. However, they should create a better system for ordering. They seem to be too busy to be able to handle the phones for customers to order ahead. There have been times where I have called several times trying to get thru, but no answer so I decided to order elsewhere. Wait time for crabs there can take 30-40 minutes so I'd rather not drive there then wait around that long. Also, it's annoying when they have a crowd of people standing outside, some haven't ordered, some are waiting for their food, no visible line, no organization. Would be nice if they would create a 'take a number' system, online ordering or a multi-line phone or something. Other than that they have good seafood. Only thing I would not recommend is the cream of crab soup. read more

I love Crab Galley! I get all my seafood from here! They have a awesome special that includes oysters, scallops, mussels, clams And I think something else that I can't remember but you get all of that for like $40 or $45 somewhere around there... And it's I'm not mistaken 12 oysters a pound of scallops, A couple dozen clams and I think a couple dozen of mussels But don't quote me on that. That's my favorite special! And then on top of that we always get crabs which they always have great specials! Plus if you like female crabs Those prices are always pretty low! And everyone that works there treats you like family! If you call and order, it will be ready for pick up when you get there! No matter how busy they are! We ordered in a dozen large male crabs and all were perfect/ no mushy ones at all, not even one. They also have cooked foods so you can do a take out for lunch or dinner and call in ahead.
