Absolutely delicious grilled mahi mahi tacos! They came with this incredible honey-lime cilantro sauce which was out of this world. I got the cole slaw on the side and it was also great. Here is my take. The food was good. Can't rag that. The wait staff is an absolute joke, though. Came in after 8PM one evening. Waitress was impatient and really bothered by any questions being asked. Ordered the food just to get it over with. Ate fast and cleared the area by 8:45PM. She seemed to calm down and stopped acting like a child once I paid and left. Once again. Awesome little place out in the middle of nowhere. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all and have some really good food I highly recommend you come in here. They've recently changed from a bar and grill to just a restaurant. But you can bring your own alcohol with you. They've now closed on Tuesdays rather than Wednesday. The food is moderately priced and very generous portions. I have the boiled shrimp Seafood Pot and it was really good potatoes an ear of corn and well over a pound of Cajun seasoned boiled shrimp. My co-workers have the surf and turf with shrimp the steak is advertised as between 10 and 12 ounces but I swear if this thing had to be at least 20 ounces. And lots of shrimp to go with it. Quaint little stop on the Intracoastal waterway in Sargent. Looked like a hole in the wall, but those are most times the best tasting foods. I did the grilled shrimp tacos and my husband did fried. Each came with a slaw on the tortilla underneath the shrimp. Then a bit of mango pico and lettuce on the side. Holy geez dee-lish. Cleaned my plate. We made another trip to Sargent which means more trips to The Crab Trap! They have been open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) but starting next week, they will be open 7 days a week. I like The Crab Trap because they have a variety of options, everything from chicken tenders to po'boys to shrimp salads to root beer floats. Their fries are awesome, burgers are really good, and I also love the fried okra. Service is good and they have an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. Sadly, we didn't get there for breakfast during our visit, but we have enjoyed that in the past. Check out the pictures I posted for the most current menu offerings. From what I recall, their hours are Su-Th 7am-8pm, F-Sa 7am-9pm. This could change as they get into tourist season. read more

If I could break down this rating, would give the experience 3-stars for unprofessionalism on the owner's part but 5-stars for the pleasant servers and good food. We live in Houston and it wanted to check out a new beach and landscape so it was our first time in Sargent. It was a nice day and as we headed out decided to have lunch. Options were either this place or a Mexican restaurant lest than 25 yards away from each other. Nice place, pleasant servers. Good first impression. However, the owner (Keith) could use some business training. We ordered chicken fried steak, blackened catfish and blackened mahi-mahi. We were 1 of 2 tables waiting for food. After what we felt was a long time we asked if the server could check on the food for us. Suddenly the owner comes charging out, snapping at us and says something to the effect "you ordered something prepared in a way not on the menu so it's gonna take while to get done. That's the way it is." Then stormed back into the kitchen. We were appalled that a business owner would speak to their guests in such a manner simply for asking the status. Further.. "off the menu" was splu requesting IF the mahi-mahi could be blackened (like some other items on the menu) versus grilled. If not for the pleasant servers we would've definitely paid for our drinks, left a tip, and walked out. Their professionalism is what kept us in our seats. This owner is lucky to have good people around him to keep customers coming back and earn a 3-star rating instead of 1 or 2. Maybe he feels since he is one of only 2 dining options, that he doesn't need a lesson in manners and business management. read more

Came down for the weekend and wanted to try out The Crab Trap. We ordered the grilled oysters and we were not disappointed at all! The flavor was absolutely amazing. I also had the crab cake dinner and I loved the crispness around the outside of the crab cake. My husk and had the stuffed shrimp and said they were delicious. He also had the Cobb salad and cleaned the entire plate. We will definitely becoming back to this restaurant. read more

What can I say about this place. I was lost because my gps batteries had went dead so I stopped in here to ask directions back to civilization. Once I realized it was a restaurant I decided to have some lunch. The waitress there was so helpful. I think her name was Tanner, Tracy or Taylor maybe? I've been back several times on purpose just to eat their oysters! We went here because it was rated 4 stars. The food and service were far from it. We weren't greeted at the door or by our waitress. The waitress was annoyed when we wanted to order after sitting there 20 min and didn't apologize. We then waited an hour for our food. The food was average and my daughter had a hair in her grilled fish tacos. The gumbo had too much rice in it and the grilled green beans tasted funny. The waitress slopped down our food and never checked on us. We had to ask for our check and she never thanked us or apologized for the wait. This place is more of a Tourist Trap than a Crab Trap! We stopped for lunch last week and were met with a greasy spoon that ladled the grease with a heavy hand. Notice our pictures and see the grease pooling on the plate. The only reason we stayed and tried to eat our food was because there was no where else in the area. The waitress defended the kitchen when she brought out onion rings latterly pooled in grease and dark brown from being overcooked by saying "that's how they always come out" .. really? Notice also the portion size of the fisherman platter, that poor fisherman must have had a terrible day on the gulf because it was very skimpy. As i followed the directions on waze it took me into a residential area where All the little houses was looking the same i truly thought I was lost on the small county roads winding around. I drove 5 hours yesterday to get to the Texas coastline for some peace and relaxation after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan. This location is an hour from where I'm staying, but I researched to find a place that served seafood on the water that had great reviews. This place is set into a hidden beach community. I ate on the deck out back which is over the canal. There were people driving boats and jet skis. There were lots of pelicans to look at in the distance. The server was super friendly and provided a ton of great suggestions from the menu. I was looking for local caught fish, crab, or shrimp and that was the only thing they didn't have and that wasn't a deal breaker for me. I ordered the seafood gumbo to start and also the crab leg boil. She stated that the fish or shrimp tacos are excellent and also their fried food too, but I went ahead and got what I ordered and it was soooooo good.
