I wanted to like this place, I love visiting local hole in the walls. Unfortunately, while the prices were very cheap, the food was some of the worse I've had in awhile. The calamari was not editable, a first for me, clearly frozen past recommended date. Country fried steak was on par with my Marie Calendar frozen dinners. I hope the best for small local businesses, I hope they will be able to up their quality or not serve items all together that they are not confident in. Would I Go Out of My Way to Try? Basket of hush puppies were fabulous with a great spicy hit to them. Shrimp was excellent. Perfectly cooked. Fries were good. Salad vs coleslaw. Salad is super minimal but was fresh: Lettuce,carrot shred and cheery tomato. Coleslaw was bland and seemed dry. Added pepper and tartar sauce to bump it up. Server was Donna and she was highly attentive and very nice. Place was clean and didn't have any weird smells. Sweet Tea is Texas sweet Tea! If you're not from here probably want to go half and half. We decided to try out this place on a Saturday evening. The prices, portion sizes and wait service were great. However the cons outweigh the pros. The restaurant was dirty (table was sticky and floors were dirty). Overall, The seafood was under cooked and under seasoned including the dirt rice and vegetables. We were staying in Surfside for 2 days May 20 and 21 and wanted to eat some great seafood. After running an errand to a drugstore in Clute we stumbled on Lake Jackson Seafood. A photo of their menu was online. We called the rest of our party to join us. The grilled snapper, steamed flounder, fried shrimp, seafood gumbo, steamed vegetables, loaded baked potato and dirty rice were excellent. So was our server - a very attentive young woman who kept checking on us. The ambiance is clean but modest - like a Denny's. The music was good and just the right level. The best thing they have here is their fried fish. Fried shrimp & oysters are pretty good too. I do not care for the calamari it isn't crispy and a little chewy. Gumbo is hit or miss... I used to like it but don't care for it anymore. Ambiance is lack luster. This isn't a fine dining experience but a good local spot for lunch or dinner. Service is always pretty quick. After whomever the manager was or whomever answered the phone today when I called about my sunglasses, I have never been treated so rudely in all of my days. And yes, I use the B word on her. "It's not our fault that you left your glasses and you were irresponsible ". I don't even live in that area, but there is no way I will ever darken that door again and you can ask our waitress. There was no heat to it at all and before I could get from Lake Jackson seafood to Buccees on old Angleton Road I was already throwing it up so I do not recommend your place at all. Horrible, greasy, nasty. On vacation and everything in Freeport was closed. So we found a "seafood" place hoping being by the gulf would mean fresh seafood. Nope, not here. I can vouch for Rodney H's review as I was in the restaurant at the time that he mentions. Happened just as he said, and I can expand on things a bit, too. Afterward, the cashier laughed and said the man couldn't take a joke. Unprofessional. We were not impressed with the way this was handled. Now, on to my own experience. Parking: Plenty of parking on both sides of the restaurant. No steps into the restaurant. Inside: The empty tables appeared to need a wipe and dry. We were told to sit wherever we wanted, and we managed to find one that was reasonably clean and dry. Service: Some of the servers seemed busy. Our server was friendly enough. We had to ask for one of our dishes that she forgot to bring and ranch for the pickles, but she did bring them when we asked. Food: I got a seafood plate with fish, shrimp, and a crab cake. This meal came with french fries and coleslaw. We also ordered the fried oysters, fried pickles, and crawfish gumbo. The gumbo was rather bland, as was the crab cake. The oysters were overcooked. The shrimp was fine. The fish was probably some of the best fish I've tasted. I doubt I will ever return to this restaurant due to other factors mentioned, but if I did it would be for the fish alone. The waitress told me they didn't have vinegar for the fish, which I thought was odd. Note: I think that sometimes people forget that not everyone visiting your restaurant is a local who appreciates your casual way of handling customer service and the lack of attention to cleaning tables. We walked in and there were about 4 tables being used while many of the others remained dirty from previous customers. We found a not-too-dirty table which I cleaned with napkins, then we sat down and waited...and waited... and waited... I looked towards the register and two employees were having a lively discussion. I tried to catch the attention of another server, but whatever she was focused on on her cell phone must have been intriguing, as I failed to get her eye. We eventually gave up and spent our $40 plus 20% tip at another, much more attentive restaurant. A restaurant's employees can make or break the business. I live out of town and while in Lake Jackson I dropped in for lunch last week. After looking at their menu, being diabetic there were several grilled fish options of a variety of fish. I ordered the grilled snapper with veggies and dirty rice. It was obvious this restaurant served me tilapia in substitution of snapper. Trust me, I have filleted, many times over, all the fish on their menu and tilapia enough to know what I was looking at. Having an appointment to attend to, I just ate it and left not having the time to confront the situation. Nice local stand alone restaurant. Salad was fresh(not out of a bag). Tomatoes were fresh too- not mushy. We shared a cup of gumbo- very tasty with small shrimp probably about 10, had sausage and okra in it too. We also shared the 2 fish and 9 shrimp platter and added an extra side salad. I want to like this place so much. I've eaten there many times. There is almost always an issue with the food. Last time the fried fish was not cooked all the way. I hope one day the coleslaw will surprise me and be good. The salads are huge and overflow the bowl. They are accommodating to large groups and kind. Ambiance, meh, large room with tables to eat. I was in the area and craving seafood (pescatarian). I read the reviews of a few restaurants and they were the closest so I came here despite the reviews. When I first walked in there was a really weird smell that made me want to turn away but it was also a smell of cleaning products. There wasn't a crowd and we were greeted pretty promptly and told to pick our seats. Our waitress quickly came and took our drink orders, she was really nice and friendly. We ordered the seafood gumbo, shrimp fried rice, crab cake and a stuffed crab. She recommended a special where we could get a large gumbo and two pieces of fish. We took her recommendation and got the special along with the other items on our ticket. The Shrimp Fried Rice - - I saw a review where another yelper said it was the best thing they had and it was most certainly the best item of all the items I ordered. The stuffed crab - not tasty. The crab cake - not tasty. It didn't seem like it had crab meat at all. The Seafood Gumbo - it didn't taste like authentic New Orleans gumbo. Lake Jackson Seafood has always been one of my favorites. Last week I ordered two take out crawfish étouffée's and once I got home to eat them, they had small black beetles spread thru out the entire entree. It was from the rice, which meant not only did my entree have the infestation but also my husbands who had already inhaled the entire entree. It was like pulling teeth trying to speak with ANYONE who cared at the restaurant. I provided pictures and tried insistently to resolve the issue properly. By the time I went into the restaurant, they very rudely gave me back the amount the "one entree" with pictures of the bugs cost. The manager Angela said the bugs were from the rice because they bought the cheapest rice this particular re-stock then informed me they were also in the sugar. The owner will never get our business again. Health inspector was called immediately after the owner failed to handle this professionally. read more

Our waiter seemed nice we ordered raw oysters as and found it a little odd that the oysters weren't on the half shell but on ice with one limón we also ordered the 5lbs crawfish which is supposed to come with 30 large fried shrimp/ oysters and french fries . When ordering we told our waiter shrimp and oysters , we got our food with no oysters and when we notified our waiter he say " You're supposed to tell me the amount of both you want" .I thought this was very unprofessional and after he told us there was nothing he could do . My brother had a reservation for 7pm for his girlfriends birthday. We got there a little early and they said the reservation wasn't until 7:30 and we'd have to wait.
