Have been coming here on our vacations for years. Usually stop here on the way home. Our check out at is 10:00am and they open at that time so it's perfect for us. They are well stocked at this time. The fish have always had clear eyes and are well packed ice. Have never noticed any funky-funny smells. If they don't have what you want up front ask and they might in the ice room. Usually a good spread of different size of shrimp to choose from. There is also a freezer case with boudin balls and the like. Love the boudin balls- spicy and delicious. The workers have always been helpful and answered my questions. I just purchased 12.4 lbs of whole red snapper and 6lbs of xtra lrg shrimp. Had the fish filleted and shrimp bagged into 3 - 2 lb bags. After fillet and head removal I end up with about 7-8 lbs of fish. Which they then placed in my cooler and iced for me. Approximately $171. Going with 7 lbs of fish +6 of shrimp totals about 13$ /lb total. I live inland and there is no way I'm getting anything this fresh locally (unless I want catfish or bass). Capt Mark's was super! The employees were so knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly (don't forget to tip them for the great service!). I bought 5 lbs of medium shrimp, 5 lbs of blue crab, and 1 lb of frozen King crab and I spent just over $80. It's not a cheap place but the prices are reasonable for the high quality and freshness. The fresh whole grouper was also really beautiful to look at while waiting for my order. My visit was well worth the short drive from our beach vacation rental and I will certainly be back whenever I'm in the area! read more

My father got had by Capt. Mark seafood in Freeport. He called me all excited that he got his hands on some oysters and when he got home he was upset because he got ripped off! He paid for 3 quarts of Oysters and got the containers with 1/3 filled with water. He called them and was told that's how Louisiana sent them and they passed the buck to the customer. He went to Poor Boys and got a true quart with little water. He was cutting onions and found him crying.... read more

I have been coming here for years, it is absolutely the BEST place around to get fresh shrimp! I now drive from 40 minutes away just to pick up shrimp and it is well worth it even when we have Gulf shrimp available right here in my town. The size of the shrimp from Captain Mark's are always consistent and super fresh. They will even peel and devein it for you if you call in advance. It is always super SUPER clean inside and the customer service is outstanding! The young kids (teenagers I assume) that work in the summer (not sure if they work during school year) are absolutely the most courteous, nice, well mannered and polite young people that I have encountered in a very long time. Great job Captain Mark's! Thanks for always providing awesome customer service over the phone and in person and delicious shrimp :) read more

Get some staff that actually appreciate the customers. When you call it's like you are inconveniencing them. Go in and they are about as unhappy looking as anything I've ever seen. Been in Capt Mark's many times over the years and they have always been super friendly and very helpful. It is true that you can find cheaper quality seafood but you better be ready for a 2 hour roundtrip. Last weekend we picked up crawfish and they were in great shape. We had very little dead loss and the size was very good. Additionally, I only had to wash them once to get them purged and clean. When you have over 100 lbs staring you down it makes your day that much easier. The staff even loaded and iced them for me. Fantastic place with great staff! Wonderful fresh fish (they had red snapper which we were hoping to find) and the shrimp are amazing! The collosal shrimp were literally collosal and so good! I think the prices are a little steep, but this is the only fish market I've ever been to so I might not be the best person to ask. I have no problems recommending or going back. read more

So disappointed. I stopped here this afternoon and was excited to cook the whole red snapper that I'd purchased. Unfortunately whole red snapper was not what I found in the package. I'd asked to have the fish cleaned. Instead of guts and scales removed from a whole fish, I had two fillets that still had scales and A LOT of bones. As annoying as it was to get two fillets instead of a whole fish, a misunderstanding about what "clean" the fish meant was reasonable. But seriously, who wants fillets with scales on them? If she was gonna ruin my fish she could have at least done it completely. read more

I've never been disappointed since my first visit in 2007! Their shrimp is always fresh, and they'll sell you an entire fish, then clean it for you to take home and cook immediately on your grill!
