Dined here for years off and on. I gave it five stars for the great fresh seafood it serves plus it's less than a half block from my house. We went there yesterday so this review is for my current visits. We ordered a crab cake apetizer to start with which was almost excellent but lacked crab meat. I like to find chunks of crab meat in what I call most excellent cakes. Then ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo that was most excellent. It had a wonderful aroma and was swimming with lots of fresh seafood. Almost thought I was in Louisiana. Then a fried shrimp basket came soon after. The shrimp was so fresh that it might have come off the boat that is docked in the back. It was lightly battered and served hot. Service was great as it normally is. Great place to eat when you are in Sargent! Think they have new people in the kitchen because we ate there twice and both times we had excellent food! (In the past I was told it was hit and miss.) They do not serve alcohol but do have a variety of soft drinks and iced tea both sweet and unsweetened. Plan on returning soon to try other things. While staying in Sargent, TX and fishing all day, my friends and I typically stop by The Crab Trap Bar and Grill. Very laid back and always a friendly atmosphere. The waitresses are super sweet and very helpful. And now...my experience. I've been to MANY restaurants around the US and the world. I've been fortunate to experience great gourmet foods in many different culinary styles. WITHOUT A DOUBT...I believe that I have had the BEST burger ever at this establishment! NO LIE. Which one do you ask? Well...I will opt out of sharing that info and allow for YOU to decide your own. Plus I don't want a mad dash to the Crab Trap Bar and Grill and next thing I know, there's a four hour wait just to get one. I'm just going to say that it has left me in awe these past few weeks and cannot wait until my next visit. I definitely would put this burger against any other burger place that I've been to. Those includes: In/Out, Five Guys, Whataburger, etc. I'd even include the Kobe Beef burger with side of onion rings and a Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley which just dropped to #2 on my list after 12 years at #1. Out with friends on a Sunday ride. Wanted some seafood so headed on over to Sargent to try this place out. This is a small "dive" with good food and a fun casual atmosphere. To get here, you take the road over the bridge and drive until you see it on the right! I had the crab cakes, which were good. One of may friends had the chicken fried steak. It was good, but not great. Overall a fun place to visit with friends and a great time to enjoy the ride while getting there! Yep, we'll be back for sure! read more

Not the "Best Restaurant in Texas"... Breakfast is not their best work. The tacos were ok, but the hashbrowns were burnt and dry, omelet was oozing grease, and there were cobwebs on a display over our table. read more

We have tried to eat here twice. Once last year for dinner and then yesterday for lunch. Both times we have had a bad experience. Yesterday, we brought our family of 7, and we got a table right away. That was nice. But, It's not a very big dining room, and there were only a couple of people seated outside, so there is no reason for the inattentive waitress. Last year, it was just me and my husband for dinner. We waited 45 min for a table, to only have our waitress forget about us for another 30min. A meal that should've only taken 1 hr, took 2! The food both times were not that great. Yesterday, Some of my food was cold when it came to the table, and the mashed potatoes were horrible. The grilled mahi mahi was cooked well though. If we come to Sargent, I will definitely not be coming back. read more

Excellent food and patchy service and atmosphere in a funky-cool location with canal-side seating and observation deck. Almost didn't go in because of the political flag waving outside giving us warning of what turned out to be a complete lack of COVID prevention by most customers and staff alike. In fact we got a bit of early attitude from the waitress because we took it upon ourselves to sanitize our own table after it was obvious the staff had no intention of doing so, and perhaps because we chose to wear our face masks even though we were the only party seated outside. However, she did get past whatever problems she had with us and warmed up to doing excellent job. Ultimately though, we were not there to make friends or express our politics or social differences, we were there for the food which surpassed all expectations and was superb. I ordered a dozen oysters on the half-shell and was very impressed. I eat a lot of gulf coast oysters but these were the best I have ever enjoyed. Plump, fresh, ice cold, and salty. Right out of neighboring Matagorda Bay. Perfect! My partner enjoyed grilled veggie tacos. A generous serving of fresh and tasty seasonal veggies, thick cut to retain texture and actually cooked on a grill to al dente perfection, served with a side of fresh, tropical pico and batter-dipped fries. Our 11 year old had the generous but somewhat standard popcorn shrimp and fries, which did manage rise to distinction because of the very tasty, handmade jalapeno spiked hushpuppies that came with it. There are many opportunities on this menu for the cooks to take short cuts, but they do seem to take the time and make the effort to everything right. Lastly, I would encourage anyone who likes to drink beer with seafood, especially raw oysters to BYOB as this place does not have a license. read more

Great food and great ambience!!! Neat little seafood grill on the canal. Fishing boats coming in so close that you can see what they caught for the day and talk about their adventures. BYOB!! Wish we had known this as we would have brought a cooler. Food quality was very good and service was quick and courteous. Will definitely make this our place to eat when we visit there again. We've had a place in Sargent for nearly 10 years. Restaurants come and go in this town due to the seasonal crowds. Very disappointing! My family and I went there for breakfast today and after waiting an hour and twenty minutes, we finally got our food. I'm thankful that the waitress brought us our butter so that it would be melted to go on our cold pancakes. And I love my steak medium rare but not my bacon. It was pretty raw. Also, my hash browns were very cold. And the service was terrible! I can honestly say that we will never go back. We will be trying hookers to see if that's any better. read more

If you are in the area don't miss this place! Everything is made from scratch. Fried shrimp was wonderfully fresh and cooked to perfection--crispy and juicy and not over-battered. We didn't get there until almost 9 pm but our baked potato was freshly baked (had not been sitting around for hours). The salad was large and its ingredients fresh. Dressing was homemade. They have roumalaude (sp?) sauce, whereas lots of restaurants look at you as if you have two heads if you ask for that. Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is dive-y but that is what you'd expect anyway! Somehow it works. We sat in the screened in porch and it was cool enough, even in August. Oh--please note that it is BYOB! We brought in wine and our own wine glasses. They provided the corkscrew:) Anyway, very good experience. Just remember to expect something like a dive but with great food.
