I had never been to this area and it even though it was trending more to the hipster side, I can say that I enjoyed my stroll through this neighborhood. It was really great strolling through here and seeing the representation of black owned businesses. I came to Crabby Shack on a recommendation by a friend. Having lived in Boston for awhile I became spoiled with lobster rolls not to mention the many day trips I took to Maine. I didn't think I would be wowed by this place but still wanted to try it. Before you do come though keep in mind that lobster rolls are generally small portion and definitely at a price point btw $27-$40. At first glance, the place is small but plenty of seating outside and inside. I ended up ordering the 1/2 lobster 1/2 crab meat roll, chowder, banana pudding and ice tea. There was definitely more crab meat than lobster and I was about to complain but the crab itself was delicious! Now the only thing stopping this place from a 5 star is definitely the bun. I would prefer a toastier more buttery roll! This one seems to shrink and ends up soggy. If they would change this, this place would definitely rank in my top 5. Everything was delicious and even though I prefer a clam chowder, this version is not too bad either. I finished the meal with a banana pudding and it was just the perfect ending. If you are in the mood for some fresh seafood in an unpretentious, casual, fun environment, the Crabby Shack is well worth a try. I was able to try the crab roll, lobster roll, mac & cheese, and the corn/crab chowder. All were solid but highlights for me were the lobster roll and mac & cheese. They have outdoor seating which is nice but I preferred sitting inside with A/C on a hot day. The music they were playing was fun and complimented the good vibes. Service was alright, could be more friendly, but passable. Good thing the food makes up for it. This is a great summer spot and I'll be returning in the future. read more

I feel that the prices here are reasonable and the service, even when they are packed and slammed with delivery orders, is great. I order one of the daily specials. I got the clobster roll with a bag of chips and a basil lemonade for $22. The clobster roll was amazing! There were pieces of lobster and crab in every bite. And the sauces went great with it. The basil lemonade was great as well. I tasted the basil but it wasn't overwhelming. The aunt ordered a $6 margarita since it was margarita Monday and a vegan cake. The margarita was a bit too sour for me but I did taste the liquor. The vegan cake was alright. It could've used a little more seasoning in my opinion. And we choose the chipotle mayo for the sauce which was good. I would recommend this place. The restaurant is small but very cozy. And they played great music! I really wanted to like this place. It's an attractive casual spot and I love seafood, but everything about my experience here was just mediocre. Not bad, but nothing that would induce me to return. To be more specific... I ordered their signature dish, their "famous" (as it says on the menu) crab roll. It contained perhaps 15% lump crab and the rest shredded, stringy crab. The taste was adequate but it just didn't wow me. After I was served I noticed on the menu board that for the same price I paid they offered a special including chips. But it wasn't suggested to me. I guess it was also the vibe of the place that bugged me. No one asked how the food was. The cashier and a counter person spent a lot of time texting and talking on their phones instead of attending to customers. Since these people are also food handlers, is that even sanitary. I understand the place is casual, but they charge regular restaurant prices, not fast food prices. As I said, nothing about the place was terrible, it was all just very average. YMMV. read more

I've been on a grilled cheese binge (it's basically a better version of pizza to me), this month, and was looking for ways to shake up my grilled cheese experience. Behold, this magical sandwich, a combination of salty mozzarella cheese (I think), a generous serving of REAL crab meat, sprinkled with chives and sandwiched between two perfectly buttered & browned slices of bread. I only ate half (my sister stole a piece), so I can't speak on the filling-factor, but I will say, half was not enough! I am still craving the other half, 3 days later. My sister ordered the lobster roll ($20), ironically, at a crab-themed restaurant. It was probably the best lobster roll I've ever had. This doesn't mean that much, because I barely like most lobster rolls I eat. They tend me to drenched in mayo and/or butter, both of which I am not a huge fan of. Instead, Crabby Shack has successfully created a low-maintenance, no frills, roll in which the lobster meat is most celebrated. They serve an amazing portion of lobster, seasoned in their special sauce (Old Bay is definitely in there), and served on chewy potato bread. They also have a bathroom that remained very clean, despite how crowded the restaurant eventually got. What I HATED (didn't hate, just didn't love) +The Wait: I know, I know...it was a Saturday afternoon (5 pm), but the wait was ridiculous. My sister was likely on line for about 30 minutes before she was finally able to order. The line got so long at one point that they had to direct people to line up outside, near a tree. It felt a little bad eating with people who hadn't even ordered yet looking on. Luckily, our food didn't take so long to come out (15 mins). It was delivered to our table outside. I was so happy, I overlooked the wait. A regular to the restaurant assured me that the wait isn't typically this long. I believe there was an influx of people from the Curl Fest event I attended nearby in Prospect Park. +The Mac & Cheese: It was decent, with an abundance of crab meat, but I could pass on this easily. There wasn't nearly enough cheese and it was a little dry. What you SHOULD do: + Definitely check it out. If you don't live in Brooklyn, this food is worth the travel. PRO Tip: + Order the mango lemonade, but ask for additional ice if there doesn't look like there's any in the dispenser. A truly great experience. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but it was a counter service type of restaurant with hopes you'd find a vacant table once you get your food. It all worked out. There's a few tables that could kid seat 4 or more but it would be better for smaller parties. I noticed a lot of people on line were taking it to go and deliveries being taken out. They are busy. There is a bit of a wait to order and that is a good thing. I had a good feeling about it being amazing. Was it expensive? Not too bad. Do I want cheap seafood? No! Good food ain't cheap. This spot has been on my foodie list for quite some time and I finally mustered up some free time to try it out. First things first - I must admit, I had high expectations which might've led to my disappointment. Before going, I read a few reviews to mentally prepare myself. Many of the reviews referenced the crab cake sliders and lucky for us, it was a Thursday and there happened to be specials on Thursday where you could select 3 menu item specials for $20. This sold me. So we headed to Crabby Shack. I knew it was a small restaurant, but surprisingly enough, we went around 8:45 ish on a Thursday and it wasn't packed at all. We quickly found a table (and parking wasn't too bad either!). Upon entering, the cashier advised we could take a menu to our seats and then could order up front after reviewing the menu. The menu wasn't too descriptive, so of course I had some questions. I approached the cashier and asked her how it worked, did you order the seafood as a base and then add sauce?! She totally disregarded me and said... "just tell me what you want and I'll explain after. " I told her what I wanted ... and she never explained?! I ordered 1 lb. of the Alaskan snow crab and 1/2 lb. of spicy steamed shrimp. My main question was how would they be served? She didn't ask if we wanted it sauced. I then proceeded to order a side of cornbread and an appetizer of the crab cake sliders. Initially, before putting in the order and while reviewing the menu, I noticed the Thursday special wasn't listed on the menu as referenced on yelp. However, there is a sign by the cashier. When I asked the cashier about it, she said the soup was sold out. I asked if we could get two crab cakes in lieu of the soup + another item on the specials list and she said no and quickly moved the sign. Not sure why they couldn't substitute a remaining side of the soup sold out, or at least honor it since the sign was there?! THE FOOD: The crab cakes were decent. The buns were soft and my favorite part. The crab cake itself was tasty, but for two tiny sliders ... not worth $16 in my humble opinion. The Alaskan crab, as I presumed came in a clear bag sauced. I was confused because I didn't know it came sauced up, I wish I could've chosen a sauce for it to be sauced in. Nonetheless - decent. Not sure if it was worth $27, the sauce was lacking in taste and not much in the bag for the big snow crab legs to soak up. The spicy steamed shrimp was good. I enjoyed the sauce. The cornbread was cold when it was served, I'm sure it would've been tasty if served warm. The cornbread went really well with the spicy sauce that came with the steamed shrimp. The iced tea was decent, although the woman at the front forgot to give it to us and then proceeded to tell us that we didn't pay for it, when we did? We eventually got it after telling her we did in fact pay for it... and then realized it wasn't even really worth it, as it wasn't even cold, it was almost like a warm tea? Would've been tasty if cooled! Overall: 2.5/5, but yelp doesn't allow for it. Glad I knocked it off my bucket list. Side note: they're a little pricey - everything came up to about $70 (1 lb. Where to begin, where to begin...oh yes! Let's start with the snow crabs and shrimp! The crab and shrimp that the crabby shack serve is some of the sweetest crustaceans you will ever eat. Add the spicy sauce to the mix and you have a grand meal that you'll be glad to use your hands to work for. The crabby shack also serves bomb crab cake sliders. Take the succulent crab from earlier ,fry it in a crispy patty and put it in a soft bun, you're in heaven! They also have a crab roll...it's pure bliss with a squeeze of butter and lemon. If you come on a Thursday, you can get a sampler platter with mini versions of the crab cake, the crab roll and a tomato bisque...all for 20 bones! Now the only thing I'll have to say bad (it's not really bad, it's a personal gripe that I have) about this place is that the strawberry basil lemonade is kinda misleading. It's not enough basil in the lemonade to make an impact. If they would add some basil leaves to the drink itself, it would live up to it's name. Lemonade aside, this restaurant is a cozy cove for seafood lovers. It's a simple equation: good seafood + great atmosphere X great music = awesome experience. Came here because I had this booked mark since i am a fan of little neighborhood shops that serves tacos... and crab tacos? HELLO SIGN ME UP! I cam here two days ago with my friends and two of them got the clobster (crab and lobster) roll meal and I got a shrimp taco and a crab taco, i personally enjoyed the crab one more than the shrimp but that's just me. There was bits of crab in every bite for mine and the lemonade was pretty good, not too sweet just the way i liked it. In the pantheon of messy food, it's hard to compete with ribs, right? Everyone likes tearing through a good rack of ribs, getting sauce all over your hands, washing up afterward -- ritualistic and fun. The spicy steamed shrimp at the Crabby Shack is the seafood equivalent of a great rack of ribs. You will have spicy garlic sauce all over yourself by the end of the meal after tearing through the shells, and my God will you have delicious fun in the process. Perfectly steamed (not overcooked and rubbery, even when we get them delivered and they arrive in a plastic bag), spicy and salty...they are among the best shrimp I've ever had. Paired up with the honey butter cornbread and the steamed broccoli, they're a pricy but outstanding meal. You'll finish a half pound, and feel like ordering another. From time to time I give the crab roll a try too. They've varied in quality when I've gotten them, but generally speaking the crab is fresh and they are decently sized -- the problem being that in a city where Luke's or RHLP can provide a huge lobster roll at the same price, it's hard to compete in the roll department. Got crabby shack through delivery. My husband got the lobster roll and he really enjoyed it. I got the 1/4 shrimp with spicy butter and it was amazing. The spicy butter had a perfect seasoning without it being too overwhelmingly salty or fatty. The tater tots were good, a little soggy but most likely due to delivery. I'm alright peeling, but those were very, um, veinous prawns. Amazing place with delicious food and great service! I could stop with friendly staff and great flavored butters that would not properly honor Gwen and her team for welcoming and serving a special "intro to seafood boil" meal for my daughter's daisy girl scout troop (plus a few siblings and parents). We took over her restaurant -- sorry (and thank you) to any patrons who came Monday night before 7:30pm! -- and it was so delicious and adorable and a great way to end the school year. It was a great vibe and energy all around and after we finished our sampler intro meal, we ordered more for some of us grown ups. Dungeness Crab -- excellent. I'm a blue crab DC girl so that's a big admission! And the cornbread, eat all the honey butter cornbread always. I actually never heard of this place until I was looking for a good place that could deliver seafood near me. I found this place on door dash, and the Crab Chowder was really calling my name, so I ordered that, the clobster roll, and the shrimp and crab combo (I was hungry). It took a while to get here (It was during the peak of lockdown), but when it did I was not disappointed. The chowder was amazing nothing to fussy just chunks of crab meat, potatoes etc, then the clobster roll was, again, nothing to fussy crab/lobster on a butter roll. Some nights all I want is crab. Alaskan King Crab legs are my all-time favorite meal! I make them like 1-2x per year. But for all other non-Alaskan King Crab cravings, I reach for my phone, click seamless and order the crab roll. Spouse and baby always get the Mac and Cheese w crab and we all share the yummy broccoli and corn bread. Omg the corn bread ... with the blackened brown butter crust!
