Solid local grab and go beer shop where I can find variety of beers from local breweries, some unique beers from around the world as well as typical easy to find beers as well. They have rotating list of beers on tap, wines by glass, and Happy Hour offerings (check out their social media and website for regular updates, they're active on Instagram!). Inside the store, they have cozy seating areas and board games to choose from if you have company. I've also seen some people bringing small take outs and eating by the countertop seating with beer and that looked like a good idea. The staff is always friendly and can help you make some really good selections if you're interested in trying something new. On most days, I let my curiosity make choices on sour ales/ciders and buy single cans; or when they display a really cool looking can packaging I will for sure gravitate to it. Parking area is ample they also got some good Thai restaurant and Poke place in same lot, and across is hot chicken wing place and Dairy Queen so its golden. As for prices of beer cans, you definitely can find lower prices at local big grocery shops on common local beer labels, but difference is not by much and this is not a Safeway so there's that. This place being closer to me than Total Wine at the Tacoma Mall, I am a frequent flyer here. Its convenient, and fun to browse and take a few or 4 cans to try at home. Pint Defiance is a fantastic tap & bottle shop! They allow outside food so I grabbed lunch from next door and made my way over. Very cozy environment with a good amount of seating. They have about 12 taps with rotating selections. They don't do flights (sad panda), so I had to make a commitment and we'll have to come back to try others! The owner (?) was super friendly and the place was organized and clean. There's a really nice vibe and I can see myself happily hanging out here with a book. The bottle shop section has a great selection; I ended up impulse buying several cans and had to sit on my hands to stop myself from getting even more! I'm happy that there is a quality bottle shop and beer bar in this area and I come here about once a month or so. That said, there are a few things that could be changed to make this a much more comfortable place to hang out: 1. Replace the bar stools. Every stool seat tilts forward at what feels like 45 degrees and when I take my feet off the bar foot rest I always feel like I'm going to fall forward. 2. Bring back the regular 4-top tables in the front area. The low height living room furniture there currently is uncomfortable and impractical for a small indoor beer bar. 3. Center the TV over the bar instead of having it tucked into the corner of the back of the room. I hope 3 stars isn't too harsh, but these issues are what keep my wife and I from going here more often read more

I stopped here before going to the Cheney stadium game. I was expecting happy hours, but there weren't any. The store is large and on the right side there is an interesting drink in the refrigerator. You can choose what you like, or you can order draft beer at the counter. I liked the free and casual atmosphere. Store staff are friendly and quick service. Quick and Easy: If you like good beer, go here!! This place is a wonderful hidden nook! They are a small, locally-owned, attentive business that knows beer, and shows it well! We have been here multiple times, sometimes for a pint, and sometimes just to grab some rarer, harder to find beers to go. To stay: If you decide to stay and have a beer, they have a good variety of rotating taps ranging from dark beers to light, sweet to bitter and hoppy, and everywhere in between. They also usually have sours or ciders in their rotation as well. The bartender will happily explain any beer they have, and help you refine your selection if you are unfamiliar. We have met the owner on a few of our visits here, and he is just as nice and well informed! He was happy to make any suggestions! He was very friendly to talk to, told us the history of how this place came to be, and other businesses he owned along the way. I won't special it for you, you will just have to ask him yourself. To go: They have their whole southern wall lined with refrigerators. These are stocked with many many beers from all different states and countries. They very from the popular, to the very obscure and rare. When we were there one time, people were flooding in by the dozens to buy a limited release beer (Fort George's 3-Way IPA) they appeared to have received more than other places in the area, and people knew that they could rely on that! I asked if they had beers from a local brewery from hometown, Grand Teton Brewery, they did. I asked if they carried a rarer Austrian beer that only comes out during Christmas time. They did. This place will definitely have a beer for anyone!!!!! Support your local beer house!!! I hope this place continues to grow and gain popularity, as the only minor downside of this place is that due to its small cozy interior, it can get a little crowded, but this is rarely the case, so worry not!!! This is a quick update. I have been visiting pint defiance since I discovered them years ago. I absolutely love this place. The ownership has changed but the place is still just as cool. They have great beer, pretty solid prices, and its just a joy to go say hi to them. I would highly recommend them for anyone. Tacoma now seems to have every kind of bottle shop. They have the little places that kept expanding their selection until they offered hundreds of labels, and now they have the place that set out from the beginning to be a beer nerd's one-stop shop. Pint Defiance is that purpose-built bottle shop, from the ground up. It's right next to a good Thai place in a strip mall in the north end. There's decent parking, and the place is clean and bright inside. There's nice new flooring, and big lines of perfectly matched brand-new coolers packed to the gills with all different beers. There's a glassware shelf, and in back there are tables and stools so you can hang out. It's brightly lit and not uncomfortably chilly. The selections don't seem to be organized by style or by geography, at least not to an OCD level. There's a loose Belgian section, and then there seems to be a bit of a tendency to bundle domestics together by state. But there didn't seem to be an obvious pattern. There are about 600 bottles in, probably, and prices are reasonably solid by bottle shop standards (e.g., a supermarket can probably beat their prices on the things they get, but this place has much more selection and better service). In back there are about 18 taps. Like most places these days, the selections will be familiar to most people who visit good beer spots regularly, but they do have the occasional rare treat on. You can get growlers to go in two-pint and four-pint configurations. Bottom line, this place does a really good job across the board, and they have the crowds to show for it. I'll definitely be back anytime I am in T-Town and beer shopping. read more

Great place! Pint Defiance has a huge variety of bottled beer both locally and nationally. Some of my favorite beer brands from Colorado are for sale here! Pint Defiance is indeed a taphouse as well. The handful of taphouses that I have been to have a list of what seems a mile long of beer and beers on tap run down a long ways down the wall. It is much smaller here compared to those big taphouses but what beer they have on tap is great. The staff is very perky, accommodating and friendly. They do not serve food here but you can get snacks like chips. You can also order in. There is a delicious That restaurant nearby where they show up in no time at all. A great way to spend supper! This place is all about beer, so don't expect a big restaurant with food service. It's not a place for children, so leave under 21 family members home. They have a wide selection of beers from domestic to international that are able to distribute in the State of Washington. They will continually make some changes to what they carry, so you can ask what's new and the staff will tell you. The owner is always interested in hearing your opinions about the beers they carry or one's you'd like to see brought in. Keep in mind about what can be distributed in the state and what cannot but also give a good description of the beer you'd like to see Barry bring in such as hoppy, chocolaty, nutty, ale, stout, porter..just be able to give a good description of the type of beer and where it originates. That's helpful information. The owner Barry is there often, so you can meet him, have good beer conversation and learn about the future planned events for his shop. Plenty of seating and conversational space for you and your friends, but don't be afraid to go solo. I did and sat on at the bar on a stool. Met a nice couple who sat alongside me and we shared dialogue about the beers we chose. Prices are reasonable by the glass or bottle on sitting in store or you can do the Growler for take out and get an even better deal from the draft beer selection. They offer two sizes that are equivalent to either a 2 or 4 pints. You are allowed to bring in your own food, but you also must clean up after yourself and take your trash with you. They don't provide utencils or napkins. That's all up to you. There is no outdoor seating area and parking might become an issue during events, but the location is within walking distance to many other parking areas so don't let that deter you from checking this place out. What can I say but WOW!! Ok first they opened up to sell beers in the Tacoma area and Barry does a great job at that. Then laws changed and they put in a small bar allowing them to serve beers and fill up growlers and that has really made this place special. They know their beers and host a bunch of breweries beers like Cloudburst just the other night. Not a very big place with limited places to sit and parking can be a challenge depending on what is going on there and they places around it. Yet everyone is very cool and considerate with an overall great vibe. The best part of Pint Defiance is that they are close to me and I am a lucky person!!! read more

The beer selection is great when you considered the cooler full of cans and bottles. They also have beer on tap which is revolving so if they have a beer you like guy while you can. With that said they fill growlers to the top, no foam. Best growler fill I have had since filling growlers. No food served but you can bring food in so take advantage of the beer and bring you ur food in. The atmosphere here is very friendly with staff and customers which brings me back every time. Love this place! The beer selection at Pint Defiance is out of this world. That said, 50 feet of beer cases can get a bit daunting. The staff are always happy to talk beer and give recommendations, but are just as content to let you do your thing and browse to your heart's content. This place is cool. Hubs and I came into fill up a growler while in town. It's a chill vibe, they have fridges and fridges of specialty beers of all kinds and also special local beers on tap that you can purchase by the growler or glass. Prices were reasonable, growlers ranged from $12-30 ish. Before we committed to a full growler hubs and I sampled a few which was nice of them, there was an incredible Xmas coffee stout when we went but the alcohol content on that was 12%, which is like a wine... so we had to commit to a less intense beer. We ended up getting a lighter Xmas beer and they're nice enough to put a sticker on the top of the lid so you know what you're drinking but I forgot so oh well. Service was friendly, environment's relaxed, parking is plentiful in the plaza with the thai restaurant. I would recommend and come back. read more

A buddy of mine said a new beer shop opened up in the Tacoma and that it was pretty good. With all of these other places opening up (bevmo and total wine), I was on board to check it out when the opportunity came up. By random chance, a few nights ago I called my buddy to see what was going on and he said he was about to head out to Pint Defiance since they had some decent stuff on tap for growler fills. After about an hour, we were walking into Pint Defiance and I was taking it all in. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but do enjoy some cider from time to time and I was actually impressed by their cider selection. They had all of the regulars at average pricing and a couple of others I hadn't tried or seen. The even cooler thing was they had some cider on tap. Now 99 bottles in Federal Way has a broader selection, but their growler fills are weak. They have some sort of setup and after asking a couple of times about ciders getting filled, they've told me it will never happen due to the system they have. So while I do get some ciders there from time to time, it's been a bummer to never get a growler fill. So Pint Defiance has filled a void that 99 Bottles couldn't. Anyways, enough about cider. Who drinks Cider anyways? My girlfriend picked up a couple of reds she had never tried and my buddy picked up some German beers in celebration for Oktoberfest. I got a half growler of some cherry cider and we hung around for a little bit talking to one of the guys about different beers. I love that you can have a beer while you're there getting other beers or even just drop by for a pint and get on your way. They seem to be going through beers on tap fairly quickly and if you live nearby, I'd suggest adding them on facebook for frequent updates. I think this rating could go up to five once they increase their selection. Great start and I hope this place sticks around for the long haul! read more

This place had a relatively poor selection. The staff and everyone else there is fine but I went in with a pretty broad list of breweries I wanted to drink from and they kept telling me, "no, sorry". I went down the street to Tacoma Boys and found all that I was looking for and more. Both domestic and imported. Their attitude toward the competition is also worth noting and makes me not want to return. With their selection, they will be putting no one out of business. read more

Beer heaven! And I'm not even joking.... You will feel like you officially died and gone to heaven ( for my non-believers, it's still pretty amazing)... You walk in and the coolers on the right... Allllllllll beer. The 2 coolers on the left.... It's mostly cider and fruity drinks. They have an abundance of beer, merchandise, and taps. They have about 10 taps, and all of them get rotated. The bartenders and owners know their beer. You can ask any one of them about any beer, and they will be honest with you. It's a laid back place... But it can get busy during the nights. They have about 10 bar stools at the bar and there's are 2 little tables and 2 big tables. So when it's busy, it'll take a minute or two to grab a seat or you'll have to stand... Which isn't bad, basically you wander aimlessly starring at massive amounts of beer while drinking a pint. I recommend this place to anyone who loves microbrews! You will not be disappointed.. Oh, and they have special tastings every Sunday from 11-4pm... And that also rotates for the theme or brewers being featured. read more

Pint Defiance owner is the same gentleman who ran the quaint and delicious Rosewood Cafe in Proctor. He always had a penchant for selecting excellent beers to feature. I think that this place was his brainchild for many years before coming to fruition. What a great place to stop by on the way home to enjoy the latest selections, take a growler home or any number of the 100's of beers in the fridge. Even better, grab some Thai food from next door and nosh and drink with friends for a couple of hours. Gets to standing room only as there are only a couple of tables and chairs and the fluorescent lighting makes me is a bit bright for me. I guess Im not used to seeing every blemish on everyones faces while I drink my beer. Despite that, I give this new Tacoma establishment a thumbs up. read more

What, a good beer place in a nondescript single story shopping strip along Mildred S? Yep! I would even use the Dutch word gezellig to apply to Pint Defiance, as it's cozy, the clientele are nice and chatty (so it's fine to go here solo, you'll meet people to talk to), and the beer selection is diverse and rotating. Oh yes, they also have a great collection of beer glasses, and sell a few hundred different beers in bottles. They've ten beers on draft, and these frequently rotate, changing about every three days. They also have special beer tastings on weekends. I overheard the manager say (on a Friday night) that if it was "this busy" on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, he'd consider expanding the seat area, so let's try to make that happen. No food is served, but you can bring in food from outside. There's a good Thai place next door for example. read more
